Pakistan's ISI announces their conclusion that Osama bin Laden is dead. Although I don't speak Austrian, I believe a more complete translation of their announcement is "Osama is dead already, so go away and leave us alone".
It might work! And if if does, look for Nancy Pelosi to announce the deaths of George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the authors of the 'torture memos'.
Very funny. I like he's just pining for the fjords.

Well if he is dead then prove it to the world. Pakistan has much larger problems wihin its borders than anything we present. If they are not careful, the taliban hooligans will pressing for control and they will be a nuclear power - nice huh?
And who gives a damn about the whole torture hullabaloo anyway? If I could save American lives by pouring water on someones's face, any guesses what my answer would be?

No--if it turns out he has been dead --probably at Bora Bora.. or thereafter--the left will claim Bush knew it and didn't tell us so he could continue his warmongering as if OBL was the reason we went to war and not the knowledge that we had a mad man with a WMD capacity in a volatile area of the world which controlled a critical petro supply amid a growing army of nutters willing to work with Saddam to cause us and an utterly corrupt and passive West enormous harm.

Libs and Dems have been doing that for years.
One of their most amazing "belief based on no evidence" is their reporting on any subject, but especially on any military action.
I ,first, really noticed it when Walter Cronkite was spreading his anti American propaganda about the Tet Offensive being a great win for the North Vietnamese, based on nothing but his desire for it to be true. America, of course, fell for it-hook, line and sinker.

It is obvious Osama bin Laden is dead,Obama isn't having talks with him.
Posted by: PeterUK | April 27, 2009 at 02:30 PM
But did they find him in Bolton, or Notlob
or Luton,(which has gotten quite a different
reputation since that sketch aired, thirty five years ago)It's a minor issue but is this the best time the ISI could make this announcement, a good opportunity for the One to say I won, and just bail on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Well being that he was in part a product of the ISI and Saudi General Intelligence's outreach efforts, kind of like college recruiting, this makes sense. In comparison to Hekmatyar and Haquanni, who had limited
effect, The Taliban's mullah Maulana Younis Khalis, seem to have been the mostsuccessful,
by current standards

OT just a bit.
Our Rush is time delayed a couple hours behind you guys, but I am just now hearing David Brooks of the NYTimes fawning like a lapdog to Charlie Rose about the transcendent brilliance of Obama. It is stomach churning stuff; the equivalent of 6th Grade wanna'-be teenyboppers at a Hannah Montana Concert. I already never take either of these guys seriously, but if you ever had any last ideas about Brooks possessing a shred of independent thought or an ounce of journalistic integrity, forget it. This guy is simply a cheerleader of whatever's popular amongst the Beltway "In Crowd."
In contrast, Dennis Prager just played Liz Cheney's excellent">http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/26/liz-cheney-vs-norah-odonnell-the-tactics-are-not-torture/">excellent rebuttal of Nora O'Donnell's talking points last week, (which someone here posted earlier----thanks whoever did that). Well worth the listen, to see a person of conviction and intelligence ably stand and defend truth, in the face of the Media's sycophantic, populist opinion juggernaut. If the RNC doesn't take full advantage of Liz Cheney, it is less than useless.

Please excuse my impeccable sourcing here, but--
I have a friend who has a friend in the Pentagon who is just CONVINCED the tall man to whom Afghans were paying homage when he got blasted by a Predator was OBL. Surely everyone remembers the reports. When was that? 2001 or 2002?

Clarice: No--if it turns out he has been dead --probably at Bora Bora.. or thereafter
The 2004 video tape would seem to rule that out (OBL dead at Tora Bora.) The 2007 tape is a bit more sketchy, so salt it to taste.

I for one am more concerned about where the loyalties of the PAK army officers lie than whether Osama is currently swimming with the virgins. In particular, the loyalties of the officers with direct command responsibility over the troops.
If PAK goes Taliban, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Able Archer Crisis (which NATO apparently didn't know was a crisis until after the fact) will be walks in the park compared to what we will be facing.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | April 27, 2009 at 03:50 PM
Well, years ago I used to look at the original OBL tapes on Edward Jay Epstein's old site and it's clear not all were of OBL and not all were in appropriate order. I am not sure how much clipping and pasting was done on those and I sure think the audio tapes are even more suspect. The CIA ususally says they are "consistent" with OBL's voice, but I bet they are "consistent" with his son's voice, too and with old clips of his ramblings.
Maybe later I'll find the cite to those tapes--it is shockingly obvious when you see them together that someone was playing games.

And to tie up this thread and the "torture" thread of today here's some fascinating stuff suggesting the CIA interrogations may not have gotten all the truth out of the 9/11 plotters:

TC;
great post on Ms. Glendon. What amazed me were the comments by those who disagreed with her. The filth and vituperation of the Left is truly amazing sometimes.
How could Notre Dame expect her, with her track record, to stay silent? People may disagree about Catholicism and its effects, but the principle behind the decision was clearly stated and inarguable, unlike the university's own statement regarding the position of the president on the abortion issue.
Posted by: matt | April 27, 2009 at 04:32 PM

As opposed to the other networks and cable news channels who will be showing "Lie to You," with President Obama.

Game, set, match, Mary.
Very classy response on her part I think.
Posted by: clarice | April 27, 2009 at 05:01 PM
Clarice,
No shocks at all, actually. 1 of the photos is 'odd' and 2 are 'silly.'
The 2004 video is not; I'm pretty darn sure that's OBL, and he gives 'proof of life' when he talks about Kerry being the Dem candidate.
This is the reason why the 2007 tape smells (of death...)- during the 'proof of life' sections, the video is frozen. This is frickin amateur hour at the video-dupe place- there is no way (IMO) that As-Sahab would allow such an error to stand.
So my point remains that OBL made it out of Tora Bora (which was reported by at least 1 witness, FWTW.)
It would NOT suprise me if OBL died in 2007, and the (bogus spliced) tape was rushed out to throw the unwary off the trail.

It's a lot easier to prove someone is alive than to prove he's dead. If he's alive, maybe this will draw him out.
In any case, if you play that 2007 video backwards you can distinctly hear the words "I buried OBL."

It looks to me like most of the left is trying to elevate a man, who apparently can't even find his birth certificate, to some kind of exalted status where everyone will be forced to bow down to him. The thing that really jumped out at me, was the absolute hatred many of the leftists displayed for the Christian religion.

Speaking of Zombies (Rick above), per the Bloomberg LUN, the government's plan for GM appears to be to squeeze the bondholders and shareholders into owning 11% of the company, with 89% split between the Treasury (which will swap it's TARP loans for stock) and the UAW. Bondholders so far are not cooperating.
Now that's change you can believe in and reveals the shape of things to come...they hope. NOW can we dust off the dictionary definitions of socialism and fascism, and the other isms so we can lable ourselves properly?
Posted by: Old Lurker | April 27, 2009 at 08:23 PM
I think the bondholders should refuse. They seem to be able to get a much better deal in bankruptcy--
Posted by: clarice | April 27, 2009 at 08:43 PM
I think so too, Clarice. Plus I am bothered by the thugish favoritism shown by Treasury to the union's claims vs the rights of the others, and I wonder where Treasury gets off driving the show.
If they get away with this with GM, pity the banks, the utilities and soon the health care & insurance industries.
