Away we go--that phrase reminds me of the Old Jackie Gleason show live from the sun and fun capitol of the world-- Miami Beach.

PaulL

This last week, with Jack Cashill's article, LUN, I made two liberals realize that Ibama did not write Dreams from My Father.

peter

Cashill's evidence certainly makes a strong case. Just imagine if anyone from the MSM had bothered to give it wider exposure; Ogabe might actually have had to answer some tough questions. The MSM truly acted disgracefully last fall, and continues to so act.

Jane

I just got a call from Mr. not always right who asked me if our nominee for the Supremes is involved with the Puerto Rican terrorist group that Bill Clinton pardoned.

Did anyone read anything about that?

MayBee

The Obamas are having date night in NYC tonight. Who pays? What's the carbon footprint?

They are certainly enjoying being American Royalty, are they not?

Patrick R. Sullivan

Speaking of Bill Ayers, he's scheduled to be on C-Span 2 next week-end (I think). With the lovely and murderous Behrnadine to join him.

Porchlight

There's this from the WSJ blog, Jane:
In College Thesis, Sotomayor Appeared To Support Puerto Rican Independence

Otherwise I think a few lefty troublemakers are trying to float a Mobyish rumor that the GOP is already linking Sotomayor with FALN.

Jane

Well the news from my source in Florida is that this could sink her.

Rocco

It wouldn't surprise me Jane! Her 1976 Princeton thesis expressed support for Puerto Rican Independence, two years after FALN began using terrorism in the US to push for Independence.

WSJ Blog

Rocco

Ah jeez...didn't see that post Porch, sorry.

Elliott

Porchlight,

I haven't seen any evidence that she wrote anything about the second amendment in college either.

MayBee

So the Obamas are off in 3 small jets for date night in NYC. I can't believe it.

Pagar

Doug Ross has some things to say;

""As close to a dictatorship as this country has ever seen"

LUN

Worth a minute or two of your time, IMO.

Pagar

I've been trying to find the differences in the Chrysler dealership stories and this story from Venezuela.

Venezuela has seized a major oil installation from the U.S.-based Williams companies, Reuters quoted a company source.

Apparently their rubber stamp legislature
passed a law allowing it.

President Hugo Chavez said his government would begin seizing control of some oil contractors on Friday following the National Assembly's approval of a law that paved the way for the takeovers.

I don't see any such law having been approved for Dealergate.

jimmyk

Her 1976 Princeton thesis expressed support for Puerto Rican Independence

Hmm, I seem to remember the left going berserk when it was reported that Sarah Palin's husband was associated (he wasn't) with a group that supposedly favored (it didn't) Alaskan independence. I'm sure the same people will be equally outraged over this.

centralcal

So, FNC (via an article in The New Republic, I gather) is reporting that Woodward is in the process of writing a book on the Obama administration.

So will Bob Woodward do a whitewash? Supposedly, he is looking to "hit a homerun" since his last book bombed (4th installment on Bush administration).

DrJ

And in Opel news...

Bloomberg reports that the German government has decided to put its taxpayers’ money behind a Magna-owned Opel. German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck told reporters in Berlin that Germany will provide a $2.1 billion “bridge loan” (direct translation) to keep Opel alive.

One portion of Fiat's grand scheme has not materialized, it seems.

Rocco

From us-puertoricans.org

The second case occurred only months after Sotomayor wrote her essay, when, in Evanston, Chicago, a dozen members of the Armed Forces of National Liberation of Puerto Rico were arrested— an organization with a history of attacks related to the struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico . Among those arrested, who refused to defend themselves because they took the position of “prisoner of war,” was young Carlos Alberto Torres.
narciso

"So will Woodward do a WhiteWash,"Is the Pope German? So I've been away down in Little Havana, doing some stimulus(shopping for some things)and have a load of roast pork, fried plantains, beans and rice, at the Palacio de Los Jugos. Which is more appetizing than pondering Ted Rall, who is considering impeachment of his one time classmate. or Sotomayor's secessionist tendencies,

Porchlight

Wait, MayBee, so the Obamas are *flying* to NYC for date night? For real? I thought earlier that you meant that they were already in NYC and were just going out on the town.

I find that pretty damned outrageous. Mr. Porchlight and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at home recently because money was too tight for a babysitter.

I'm sure dozens of "in this economy?" stories wll be forthcoming from the MSM. Phbbbbttt (sound of raspberry).

Jane

Now Porchlight - they are not going to use the big Air force 1 - just the medium size one.

Oh and Susan Boyle came in 2nd.

Porchlight

Oh man! Poor Susan. Well, perhaps she'll be happier in the long run if she's not quite so famous.

Jane, that's interesting news from your source in FL (upthread). Perhaps the Axelturfers on the lefty blogs are trying to start a "Republican desperation" rumor in advance.

MayBee

Yes, flying to New York for a night out. They are taking 3 smaller sized planes so as not to be ostentatious. Apparently DC only has the one restaurant worth going to, and his carbon don't footprint.

At what point does it become very Marie-Antoinette-ish?

 Ann

Photobucket

We need some Saturday styling fun......

 Ann

Photobucket

because I cannot help myself. :)

Jack is Back!

I hear that her ensemble is specifically tailored and assembled for a soup kitchen but not one run by a Croatian nazi.

hit and run

Apparently DC only has the one restaurant worth going to

I've only ever "eaten out" in DC once. But that doesn't really count. I met friends for drinks right before having dinner with Clarice last fall (and having done so, yeah, who could eat out in DC ever again). But, I think the Obama's would like the place I had drinks ... a fun, little Mexican restaurant. Maybe Sontomayor, in her historic role as the first hispanic to escort a president to a DC restaurant, could help them with the translation from snobby English to well, everyday jargon.

and his carbon don't footprint.
Totally, and his sh!+ don't stink.

Rocco

There are some that claim she was a member of FALN...

Jane

she was a member of FALN...

Mr Florida, who sees nothing wrong with the Obama administration, is hearing a lot of pushback on Sotomayor. And the implication clearly is that she was a member of FALN Rocco.

He said even the NY Times touched on it today. I haven't seen it and refuse to look.

Barbara

Her dress seems to be a cross between the body builder and Carmen Miranda look.

He always looks like a croupier, to me. (No offense meant to those in that occupation.)

PeterUK

"Yes, flying to New York for a night out. They are taking 3 smaller sized planes so as not to be ostentatious."

One each and one for the hairdresser and the shoes?

 Ann

Barbara,

You are too kind. Let's just call him what he is....a craps dealer.

RichatUF

Jane,

I wouldn't get too far out on that. And Rocco read that link closely. It wasn't a claim that she was (nor is there any evidence presented that she was) but that is what those mean GOP deadenders will call her. A nice distraction and disinformation to keep the focus off her membership in La Raza and her "wise Latina" comments.

MayBee

I think Michelle looks nice. I just want her to stand up straight and stop with that wide-legged stance.

Rick Ballard

Now, MayBee, that 'wide-legged stance comes with the two axe handle a... er Northwest territory. Once again, I think she looks simply stunning. I'm sure Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and David Paterson would all agree.

Jane

Rich,

Yeah I read it - after I posted. I just wonder why the traction.

Jane

Maybee,

Perhaps she just isn't my type, but I find her wholly unattractive in just about anything. Good triceps tho - I'll give her that.

Rocco

Yep...I think you're right Rich. Disinformation coming from those right wing nut jobs.

Extraneus

Yes, and it almost goes without saying that triceps are normally the first thing people perceive when confronted with the visage of a beautiful woman.

But we digress.

jimmyk

that is what those mean GOP deadenders will call her.

One of Obama's favorite tricks: "My opponent will say ..." [something false that no one of any importance would say or had any intention of saying].

PeterUK

I bought a new tin opener yesterday.

Extraneus

I've always found tin openers somehow more titillating than Mrs. Obama's triceps.

narciso

That leftwing blogger seems like quite a
nut, but let's not dismiss this out of hand.
in the mid 70s, a lot of weird stuff was
going on. A newspaper heiress was robbing banks, under the alias of Che's German compatriots, in the name of a radical
syncretic gang, the SLA, run by ex cons (a significant starting point to the backstory in Paddy Chavevsky's Network). Geraldo Rivera had briefly Minister of something or other to the Brown Berets, the FALN was starting their campaign with the Frances Tavern bombing which would echo, twenty five years at the end of the Clinton Presidency, the Weather Underground was were receding into obscurity. Is itpossible she had more activist Independencist
sentiments?.I think what's on the record is disturbing enough as it is later, her utter contempt of legal principles of
inpartiality, her involvement in the slander campaign against a fellow Latino of a different political and ethnic stripe (Miguel Estrada) She may be nominally pro life, or at least lest militantly pro-choice than most. Not good enough in my book.

RichatUF

narciso-

Her record should be enough for her to not be confirmed. We don't need to peddle a theory for which no evidence exists. And hell if the GOP were to have taken a stand against the FALN, they shouldn't have voted to confirm Holder or Clinton.

RichatUF

Seems quiet tonight. Too quiet.

Ignatz

--Her dress seems to be a cross between the body builder and Carmen Miranda look.--

She looks more like a big, black, fuzzy caterpillar to me.

Extraneus

Hey, so back to Soto, wouldn't it make sense for Republicans to pound away at the "racist" thinking of the new Affirmative Action nominee? Seriously, everyone knows the reason she was appointed is because of the Latina thing, and I'd bet money that most people are offended by that whole concept. To add insult to injury, and establish that she doesn't even pretend to post-racialist thinking, seems worth touting. Respectfully and oh-so sympathetically, of course.

Speaking of which, does anyone know how it was so easily established that "Hispanics" have been historically discriminated against, to the point that AA was needed in order to level the "playing field" for them? I've never understood the justification that some third-generation Spaniard from Spain gets preferential treatment over a first-generation Frenchman or an Irishman, based on language and nothing else. (And in the spirt of full disclosure, my father spoke Spanish and my grandfather was born in Brazil and spoke both Spanish and Portuguese. Should that give me or mine the "rich heritage" leg up?)

Weren't some Chinamen abused during the building of the western railroads? Seems like they'd have a claim, too, and any dark Indians (from India), maybe even Swedes, if someone ever treated them as different.

I think it's worth rubbing peoples noses in this whole disgusting and illogical "race"-based political correctness.

Again, a Spanish-speaking grandparent doesn't make one a member of a "race," downtrodden or not. It's offensive, and not just to conservatives.

Fresh Air

Would it just kill that goddamned jerk to put on a tie?

centralcal

Yup, Ignatz, you have nailed it!

She looks more like a big, black, fuzzy caterpillar to me.

Three planes to NY???? Three??? Oh, well, I know they didn't take AF1, wanting to save money and all. But who or what was on the other two planes?

Jane

She looks more like a big, black, fuzzy caterpillar to me.

Jackpot!

Parking Lot

PeterUK

What are your thoughts on the BNP?

 Ann

CC,

According to Tapper:

A White House press spokesman tells us the President had explained the visit, "I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished." (Weird he didn't say win and I wonder what else he promised her that we will have to pay for)

The couple did not take the large 747 to New York, but flew a much smaller C-20 (G3). The press pool flew in a separate plane identified by the military as a G5, followed by a staff in a third plane (G3). White House staff said the smaller planes were more fuel efficient.(Still, hope they didn't fly really low over Manhattan :) )

AF-1 landed at Kennedy Airport. Marine One flew them to Brooklyn Bridge to lower Manhattan. (Question: Are they flying home in AF-1?)
---
The first couple dined at Bluehill Restaurant where reservations are reportedly hard to get.
The restaurant features "locally grown fare" and has it's own farm in upstate New York.

(Seems to me that the White House dining room is reportedly hard to get and they could of used the locally grown fare out of the backyard, but HEH)

PeterUK

"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished."

Providing there is any of the $600,000,000 left.

RichatUF

centralcal-

Three planes to NY???? Three??? Oh, well, I know they didn't take AF1, wanting to save money and all. But who or what was on the other two planes?

Limo, Secret Service vehicals, Sercret Service agents and support staff, communications gear and Air Force detail, etc. Moving the President isn't a minor task and it just goes to show that Obama doesn't really think we are in an economic crisis (or even a climate crisis to take that sort of trip) or that times are even tough for people.

Also from the Obama Rulebook:

Law 34: Be Royal in your Own Fashion: Act like a King to be treated like one.

The way you carry yourself will often determine how you are treated; In the long run, appearing vulgar or common will make people disrespect you. For a king respects himself and inspires the same sentiment in others. By acting regally and confident of your powers, you make yourself seem destined to wear a crown.

And for futher study, I'd recommend The Prince.

RichatUF

Seems that Ann already got the details on taking 3 planes.

Charlie (Colorado)

Ann, even if it's a Gulfstream, the plane Obama is in will be Air Force One. Here's a G3, here's a G5.

Elliott

Obama has failed to close the widening gap between those who write laugh lines for leading Republican politicians and their Dem counterparts: 'Yeah, just consider it your new domestic policy agenda.'" (via Drudge)

verner

"She looks more like a big, black, fuzzy caterpillar to me."

If it was fringie, and the FLOTUS had an hourglass figure, I'd say Diana Ross and the Supremes...as it is, 21st century fuzzie caterpillar in great need of spanx.

MayBee

If I'm not mistaken, he won the election in early November, giving him 2.5 months to take his wife to New York on his own dime.

verner

I'm still PO'd at Obama for snubbing the Queen over D-Day. She, unlike both O and Sarkozy, actually SERVED. She has every right to be there, and they should be utterly ashamed.

Obama=NO CLASS.

 Ann

Sorry, Charlie:

I always forget that no matter what they fly in, it is called AF-1. But someone tell me how much they saved the American taxpayer?.......

You know they are going to tell us how many jobs were saved by flying 3 planes. :)

And Rich, Law 34 makes me want to post more pictures, so I am blaming you from now on for my addiction to deburking both of them.

And I totally, agree with your 7:17 comment. A member of La Raza (The Race) and her other statements should be enough to vote NO.

Topsecretk9

They sure have a lot of dates and parties don't they?

RichatUF

Ann, post away, the thread doesn't appear to be to active this evening.

We still haven't gotten anything regarding Scare Force One either.

Thomas Collins

My son and I had great fried green tomatoes, ribeye steak, sweet potatoes and salad in Clinton, Mississippi. We are now in the Days Inn in Clinton watching the Magic close out the Cavs. We are about 300 miles from Shreveport.

 Ann

Verner,

That dress is way to young for Michelle and she definitely needs some undergarments.

But more importantly, I am livid over the dissing of the Queen, also. Have you read the Canada Free Press?
The Real Reason the Queen Got Dissed: Bam Bam and the Mau Mau

verner

I just have to rant a little more about (I)bama, that smug, creepy punk and what his snub of QEII means to me.

In the first place, although both his grand dad and uncle both served, funny how he knew virtually nothing about their histories until he needed it for his campaign in order to look "patriotic" and pro-military.

Second. He can not blame it on Sarkozy. If Obama had wanted the queen there, she would have been there.

And DAMMIT she should be.

My dad used to tell me of French bravery...or rather LACK OF IT. THEY WERE A JOKE. When he was in Brittany, he said that half the time the so called "FRENCH RESISTANCE" wouldn't even show up unless you gave them cigarettes and chocolate, and then would turn around and run at the first sound of German gunfire.

The Americans, Brits and Canadians fought together on those beaches, and all should be honored. It is an unspeakable disgrace not to have the queen there--a woman who--unlike Sarko and Obama--lived through the war, and served bravely.

But just what you'd expect from the egotistical PUNK in the Oval Office. NO CLASS. He wants it to be ALL ABOUT HIM.

RichatUF

Topsecretk9-

The Indolent Prince is plying his courtiers and jesters with food and drink to make sure they stay "on the team". Who knew that it was so cheap to buy hagiographic coverage and sycophantic followers?

centralcal

They sure have a lot of dates and parties don't they?

It is all about being celebrities. Not about anything hard - like leadership.

RichatUF

verner-

His conduct regarding the Queen is disgraceful.

verner

WOW Ann, thanks for that.

And another thing--Obama needs to ditch the Kenya crap. If he really cared about Kenya, or his family there, his blood brother would not be living in a garbage dump on $1 a day.

Face it. His dad was ALREADY MARRIED when he got Miss Dunham pregnant. He then ABANDONDED HIS SON. But in his own twisted world, Obama probably just chalks up his father's selfish, abhorrent behavior to the mental and emotional scars inflicted by British colonial racism--a blame game reinforced by every Marxist radical enabler he has ever known.

Much easier than admitting that your own father was little more than a sperm donor and a complete reprobate, who could have cared less if you lived or died.

Note to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: get over it sonny. It's not just about YOU. It's my country too. My dad fought with Patton too. And he loved the Brits. And your self-absorption, psychological pathologies and "DADDY ISSUES" are no reason to diss the Head of the British Government and Military--especially when she has done a STELLAR JOB of honoring those who have served for 65 years.

verner

LUN to the NYT article about the diss.

Any sitting US president with the least bit of CLASS and even a slight sense of HISTORY would have INSISTED that the Queen appear, or would have declined the invitation.

He's a rotten PUNK.

Rick Ballard

Rich,

It appears to me that he's cut down on drinking heavily in the morning. So, there's that. Unless he figured out how to get his coke connection past WH security...

I make unemployment cracking 10% by August 1. If Govmo doesn't reopen some plants (and why should they) then we'll be able to celebrate a 10.5% unemployment rate by Labor Day. Do you think Barry and the Klingon will celebrate that achievement with dinner in NY?

"Oppose Sotomayor at your peril" with what Obama has done to oppose our friend and the Queen of England.

I say "Oppose the Queen of England at your peril". Let us really talk about "Real Life Experiences." A-holes!!!

verner

Ann, you go girl!

I don't have a monarchist cell in my body, and if I were a Brit, I'd be a flaming republican. However, if you have to have a Queen, QEII has been a very good one indeed, who has served her nation with impeccable dignity and honor.

After this INSULT, I only hope that she lives to see the 70th anniversary--where she, and the brave soldiers that she represents so beautifully, can be properly honored by President Piyush "Bobbie" Jindal. Now that would be KARMA, with a Punjabi twist.

narciso

Well as he said,'we ain't seen nothing yet,
This pattern isn't surprising after what we

developing more contempt for the likes of Sarkozy, who has really proven to be just anotherEnarque, I wonder is it the influence of Carla Bruni, who ironically seemed less ecstatic on the wonders of the One last time.

The problem with that Canadian Press piece and others by the Daily Mail and the Times of London, is that she didn't the title at the time of Hussein Onyongo's detention, under the other wise righteous Attlee regime

verner

Marciso, I'm disappointed with Sarko as well. he should know better. But then, the French always like to stick it to the Brits, and are still sore about Churchill bombing their fleet I suppose. So there...

I still insist, if the White House had demanded proper protocol etc., this PR EVENT geared towards making the big eared, self-absorbed punk look presidential would have never excluded the Brits.

The excuses are ridiculous.

They could have easily changed the plans before all of this garbage became public if it was mere oversight and a mistake. I don't know who they're trying to convince with their BS.

Rick Ballard

Narciso,

It ain't as if our Kunta Kinte imbibed this African fantasy as a feral child. This is a legend for the folks on the South Side stupid enough to believe the Bill Ayers version of Alex Haley digging up his shallow roots.

Barry Dunham Soetero spoke to his alleged sperm donor for a total of a few hours in his entire life. Maybe they talked about granpa getting thumped but I wouldn't bet on it.

daddy

Speaking of Queen's,

Just got back from taking the kids to a movie. Man, the pre-movie ad's and previews and Public Service nonsense was simply sickening. In one Public Service ad, multiple hi-profile Hollywood types lecture on save the planet stuff and stupidly talk about transportation in the future. One celebrity I didn't recognize goes on and on about how the internal combustion engine was the worst thing ever invented by humans and we would all have been worlds better without it.
Then out trots Elton John, honest to Gawd looking like my Grandma Peg, and going on for about 5 minutes on a wonderful New Broadway Show about young Boy ballerina's, the money shot of which is these 3 adolescent dancing boys leaping on stage in unison while wearing female Ballet tutu fluffy dresses.

I have no idea when I became such a curmudgeon, but man, that was painful.

Porchlight

Thomas Collins,

I'm not sure it's exactly on your way, but if you have time to visit the National Military Park in Vicksburg, I hope you will. We went a couple of years ago (and stayed in Clinton, coincidentally enough, at the Hampton Inn) and it was simply incredible. Words can't describe it. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

narciso

Verner, it's Narciso as in Narciso Lopez, or narcissistic, which I'd guess I'm the farthest thing from. The Daily Mail settled on this explanation, Rick, to explain an irrational set of acts, as it turns Uncle
"Chuck" Payne, didn't tell him about his
Ohrdurf experience either, so there's nothing genuine about him, His mother and grandmother raised him, and he dedicates
everything to the father who abandoned him.

Porchlight

Ann and verner,

Thanks for your excellent remarks on Obama snubbing the Queen. These clowns in the WH are indeed disgraceful.

P.S. Michelle looks awful in that dress and someone should have told her that carrying a bag the size of a pencil case only emphasizes her own enormity. Yes I'm being petty but anyone who flies to NYC from DC for "date night" deserves all the pettiness that can be thrown at her.

Fresh Air

Porch--

The tiny bag is just to emphasize that she has no need to carry anything; she has "people" who do that stuff for her, natch.

I can't wait til these arses are so despised they have to dash into waiting cars to keep from being hit by flying tomatoes. In about, oh, six months or so...

Verner is right. They are both classless. But, what did anyone expect? It's not like Zero would have learned any manners from Mr. and Mrs. Commiepants or Grandma Trotskytoodles. I don't know how many of you have visited Hyde Park, but it's not exactly Knightsbridge, either.

Narciso, I know it's Narciso. I wasn't wearing my reading glasses, and hit the wrong letter.

Fresh, just add this to their other "mean kids" adolescent stunts. Snubbing the Queen is just like giving people the finger when he's acting like he's scratching his face. Or laughing at the nasty jokes at the WHCD, while "making fun" of how perfect he himself is. He's too smart and "cool" for his own good.

And he's so tone deaf about it all. They probably thought people would think "how romantic" when they heard about the date night to NYC, instead of "couldn't we have financed the text books for an entire elementary school with the money spent on carting their butts up to NYC for 6 hours."

O dear lord Daddy. Why should people going to see an action flick be subjected to butterflies dressed like peonies. Won't these people ever stop.

We went to see a movie last week, and there were 30 minutes of previews. They should have been paying ME to sit through that.

Heh. I thought Verner's misspelling was intentional because narciso misspelled Nancy Reagan as Mancy. But it's even funnier that it was inadvertent by both.

PD

Okay, so now we know who was on each of the three planes flying to NYC for date night. My question: Why is it necessary to take a plane for press corps?

I guess not living under the microscope I don't understand this, but shouldn't the WH staff be able to arrange a relatively private night out for the First Couple?

verner

PD, do you think they wanted it to be private? I don't. What good would that be? I think they wanted the world to see the pics.
