Alan Colmes has proven the Peter Principle correct ever since he was promoted from being a dopey morning drive disc jockey.

narciso

Colmes is the TRig birther idiot after Andrew Sullivan, so you can't expect any kind od common sense from him,

clarice

Well, but he's soooo good looking.

centralcal

oh, snap, Clarice.

I notice Roger Ailes and Mr. Colmes have yet to announce the grand new project that Alan was supposed to have in the works after leaving (being booted off?)H & C.

He gets one night a week for 60 seconds on O'Reilly with his sister-in-law, but other than that, nada. I guarantee Alan's ratings would be about at good as Ed Schulz's over at pmsnbc.

Frau Jedöns

Despite his good, ahem, looks, he just lost Miss Congeniality, Clarice.

BobS

Colmes is essentially a lib dem first...there is no way in hell his kind would ever come to the defense of Sarah Palin - or any other voice that he and his find a threat.

Speaking of Spellcheck, you might want to look closely at that clown/comic line....

Foghorn Leghorn

this is the moral equivalence of war, I say!

Stephanie

I see Owebama got more of my $$ today... bastid.

Thanks Frist!

Stephanie

Speaking of looking closely, you might want to see what flew over your head... hint, it wasn't a bird, and you still you got poop on your face...do you get the joke now? Clewless...

Pofarmer

Yes, laugh it off. Why, I mean, it's not like there's dozens of personal attacks everyday. Just let them attack you, and your family, and your kids, and your in laws, and act like you like it Dammit!!!!!!! Why, I mean, it's not like it was a national forum! I mean, surely, if you just ignore everyone who's attacking you for things you've never said or done, I mean, surely that's the recipe for electoral success? Never set the record straight, works every time.

Pofarmer

Man, that Washington post thing with Kathlene Parker shows a TON of arrogance on her part.

BobS

Parker basically posted an earlier column with revisions......meow

narciso

Yup, Parker's an evil witch, not the word I was looking for, but close enough. In addition to having her facts wrong.

Comforter of the Liberally Afflicted

I will give Alan Colmes credit. I watched and gagged for years as he bravely defended every liberal piece of idiocy that Hannity might mention. His arguments were threadbare if not outright ludicrous, but he kept in there pitching and taking one for the team.

I had occasion to reread Patton's speech to this 3rd Army troopers where he promised him that they could ride to glory with him, so that they wouldn't have to tell their grandkids that they spent the war shoveling shit in Louisiana.

Well somebody had to stay behind in Louisiana shoveling that stuff--and that's where Colmes is going to spend this war. And that's what he shovels.

Pofarmer

Ya know, it seems to me that if Kathleen Parker were that concerned with Palin's staff, she could, ya know, see about going up there and helping her out.

Pofarmer

as George Will once said:"Being conservative doesn't mean one has to leap into the darkness.

Birds of a feather, and all that.

Pofarmer

One of Palin's biggest problems, obviously, is an inability to clearly articulate her positions. I have it on good authority that she had a terrible time training for the vp debate and threatened to leave at one point. The McCain people were very frustrated with her as they tried to hammer a few talking points. Time will tell, but I'm not optimistic

Really?

It seems to me her "problem" was trying to articulate McCains nearly incomprehensible positions.

Pofarmer

They're moons apart intellectually and with regard to accomplishments.

Gee MO Nelly.

I guess I'm gonna have to read up on Jindal. What are his accomplishments?

Pofarmer

Translation Request: "A lot of this is wrapped in good rhetoric," she said, "but we're not seeing those actions, and this many months into the new administration, quite disappointed, quite frustrated with not seeing those actions to rein in spending, slow down the growth of government. Instead, China's the complete opposite. It's expanding at such a large degree that if Americans are paying attention, unfortunately, our country could evolve into something that we do not even recognize, certainly that is so far from what the founders of our countries had in mind for us."

Care to take a crack at translating this into English for us, Kathleen? I am trying, but I keep going cross-eyed.

Kathleen Parker: LOL.

IS THAT REALLY THAT FUCKIN HARD? WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKIN' MORONS!

And she questions Palin's intelligence?

Jane

She was fabulous in teh VP debate and beat Biden hands down.

Original MikeS

Colmes' defense of Letterman's humor just goes to prove that one man's slime is another man's entertainment.

Pofarmer

I also think it's out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I'm wobbling here.

Whhaaaatttttt????????

Foghorn Leghorn

as Joe Biden merrily chews up the scenery and English language with his buffoonery, one has to wonder if the best of the bunch might have been Palin. It would seem some main Street common sense is what the country really needs right now.

naw, MikeS, Letterman's slime is Colmes dog's breakfast.

Pofarmer

one has to wonder if the best of the bunch might have been Palin. It would seem some main Street common sense is what the country really needs right now.

There's no wondering about it.

Washington needs a bug bomb thrown in it.

Sometimes I wonder if we'd have been better off if flight 93 had hit the Capital with both houses in full session, and maybe a couple others.

There, I said it.

I still laugh at Letterman even though he is mostly grotesque, now. And you say there are eleven more steps of this?

Where's Arsenio Hall when we need him?

BobS

America has always held a fascination for attractive women of all persuasions.
this has never really been an unhealthy thing. First Ladies have always been scrutinized for their beauty and sense of style. But I've only been able to understand Democrats hate lust for Palin by observing the moral rot that you witness in their comments. Letterman's lurid quip about the Palin's daughter demosntrates their sophmoric snickering.

BumperStickerist

First Ladies have always been scrutinized for their beauty and sense of style.

and, in some cases, their ability to stay in and pick up the blitzing linebacker while Obama drops back to pass.

Ignatz

--Speaking of Spellcheck, you might want to look closely at that clown/comic line....--

What use would spellcheck be?
Is there some other way to spell 'that'?

Captain Hate

It seems to me her "problem" was trying to articulate McCains nearly incomprehensible positions.

Game.Set.Match.

McCain ran a pathetic campaign and his performance in the debates was abysmal. I was counting on him to knock the jug-eared dunce completely off his half-assed game and all he did was mumble banalities that made him look like a senile fool. If the Maverick wants to find out who lost the election he can look in the mirror, assuming his cataracts will permit that.

BobS

CH: I agree.....now we have those same bozos tell us we should be more moderate. At any rate, JOM has turned out to be the "I told you so" site....the biggest concern is that its worse than we feared.

BB Key

Alan Colmes has a wife?....... Does she also look like a flounder?

Dorothy Jane

Didn't Alan Colmes play a skeleton in the Nightmare Before Christmas?

Pofarmer

Ya know, it strikes me that Kathlene Parker has about one degree of seperation from Maureen Dowd.

Ignatz

--Didn't Alan Colmes play a skeleton in the Nightmare Before Christmas?--

Quite possibly; his nickname is Skeletor after all.
BTW which one of the JOM ladies has got dibs on Alan anyway?

Pagar

Palin was the only bright spot in the 2008 presidential race. She should have been debating Obama and if McCain had to be in the race, he should have been talking with Biden.

One of the problems I see with those Republicans who attack Palin, is that they offer nothing that makes people want to get out and support them. Why would anyone want to waste their effort, time and money supporting someone else when Palin is clearly the best.

MeTooThen

To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to express my deep disgust and outrage over Mr. David Letterman's "jokes" about adult sex with Miss Willow Palin, a 14 year old girl.

I cannot imagine that in any setting, nor at any time, would it otherwise be appropriate for an adult man to joke about a MLB player having had sex and impregnating a 14 year old girl, nor a disgraced former governor and admitted adulterer (and sex addict) trying to have sex with a child (and in this case the SAME child,) let alone have this very thing happen on the Late Show with David Letterman.

It is not only that the so-called jokes were disgusting, outrageous, deeply offensive, but they are ultimately dehumanizing and dangerous.

I will not for one moment bring up any kind of particular opprobrium because the child involved happens to be the daughter of a former republican vice-presidential candidate and current governor of Alaska. This is not about politics, it is about decency. As Mr. Letterman has shown having made Miss Palin a topic of his monologue now for two shows, he is worse than indecent. David Letterman is a filthy, gutless, coward; a pervert, misogynist, and a desperate hack.

CBS should be ashamed for not apologizing to Miss Palin loudly, immediately, and unequivocally. In addition CBS owes a similar apology to the entire Palin family, and then their viewing public.

From this point henceforth, I will no longer watch CBS, any CBS affiliate, and will boycott the Late Show sponsors.

What he said.

sbw

One theme that Republicans ought to begin to project is:

"The state does not exist to cheat the people."

Beneath Obama's silky rhetoric, the plans themselves fail miserably and cheat the people of the quality of life they deserve.

Pofarmer

A question, this is probably coming from another thread. But.

If Palin does get invited to more local congressional races to do speeches and can continue to draw the crowds, Heck, I'd like to see her, what's the chance that that gives here the kind of inside pull she needs within the party? More of a grass roots type thing from the bottom up? I mean really, I'd love to see Fred Thompson speak. Huckabee can be good, but he really showed his ass against Romney. I wouldn't walk across the street to see Romney, and, let's face it, Guiliani ain't gonna try it again. I also can't think of a single face among the sitting senators that deserves a shot. Who else could draw the campaign crowds? Ridge? Pawlenty? Jindahl?

Dorothy Jane

LUN - David Letterman kind of sort of is forced to apologize. What meant to say was the 18 year old was the subject of his verbal sexual assault NOT the 14 year old.... DUHHHH!

BobS

Pofarmer....hope you won't be too upset if Romney faces Obama in 2112.

Extraneus

She was fabulous in teh VP debate and beat Biden hands down.

Yes, and wasn't that the Gwen Ifill debate, which somehow focused most of the questions on foreign policy -- as opposed to, say, energy policy? Yet Sarah wiped the floor with Joe's gravitas in that debate.

Speaking of Mrs. Palin, I've been too kind to the left, normally adding her last name as would normally be proper, but we seem to be fairly good at getting on a first-name basis with numerous lib females for some strange reason. I think it's time I did the same for Sarah.

Since I'm bloviating here, I want to re-mention that I think Todd blew a golden opportunity on this one. I'd have liked to be reading Drudge right now about Todd's invitation to meet Letterman in private.

fdcol63's citation of Rule 12 today speaks of cutting off the target's "support system" during the ridiculing, yet I'm sure there's a massive well-spring of male protective instinct out there for her. She can only have one champion, though, and it has to be Todd. He's perfect for it, too. Time to unleash that secret weapon.

Dorothy Jane

"I'd have liked to be reading Drudge right now about Todd's invitation to meet Letterman in private."

OMG! I was thinking the same thing...

clarice

Keep flooding the CBS offices with complaints. They are stupid. It takes them a while to catch on that this stuff is not funny.

daddy

Well what I found startling today was something that occurred on the Dennis Miller Show. Dennis was interviewing a guy from Politico, Eamon Javer's, who yesterday had this">http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0609/23510.html">this column talking about how Obama cites Jesus much more than Bush cites Jesus. I thought Eamon came off as a bit too cool and a bit of an apologist for Obama, but that's my bias. What I don't give him a break on, and you could sense that it struck Dennis as well, was that Dennis asked him what he thought of Evan Thomas of NewsWeeks comment over the weekend to Chris Matthews calling Obama "Like a God."
Eamon said that he hadn't seen it. So here you have the Politico guy writing about Obama/Jesus and Religion, and he hadn't found the 15 seconds necessary to see the "Like a God" quote. Said he had read about it but hadn't gotten around to watching it.
Instantly Dennis said "play it, and in 5 seconds the clip was playing. Then he asked for comment and Eamon basically blew it off as relatively unimportant political yakity-yak, etc.

My point, and what I am sure I shared with Dennis Miller, was the fact that the Politico Expert guy doing such a story was too lazy to put out the effort to educate himself on one of the biggest instances of Obama Religious Presstitution we are ever likely to see in our lifetimes. From this moment on, I personally am very skeptical of Eamon Javer's, Politico. That's my take.

Pofarmer

Yes, and wasn't that the Gwen Ifill debate,

The thing I remember the most about that debate, was Joe simply making shit up, and nobody saying a word about it.

BB Key

Colmes was just on O'Riely trying to "walk back" his comments and blame it all on Letterman's hack writers.

Captain Hate

David Letterman kind of sort of is forced to apologize.

It's not even an apology; "I really meant the 18 year-old Bristol" AS IF THAT MAKES IT OK!!! What complete scum; he has to be sweating bullets about this because he would've blown it off otherwise. He knows he stepped in it badly since MSDNC's anchorskank Contessa Brewer got pwn3d by John Ziegler when she acted like it was no big whoop (LUN); I'm not sure why MSLSD has to defend that gap-toothed idiot, well other than being batshit crazy on their own. Say goodbye to your career Dave; sucks to be you.

centralcal

From this moment on, I personally am very skeptical of Eamon Javer's, Politico. That's my take.

There, daddy, fixed that for you. The guys at Politico are just another flavor of liberal media, trying a little harder to get page views, etc. But, make no mistake about where their loyalties and their slant lies.

clarice

Aren't they all from the Washington Post or somplace similar?

I do so hope that letterman suffers greatly for this..if he doesn't there is no end to it. Absent a real apology any pol who appears on his show should be chastised for allowing such treatment of a colleague or rival's child.

Dorothy Jane

Alan Colmes in the role that made him famous

Captain Hate

The thing I remember the most about that debate, was Joe simply making shit up, and nobody saying a word about it.

Like the USA and France having kicked Hezzbolla out of Lebanon before turning it over to the UN? That bit of alternative lunacy that Gwen sat their like a ****ing cow (apologies to the non-human bovines) chewing her cud and not looking at all skeptical?

Captain Hate

Gwen sat **there**

centralcal

I think all of us should boycott Mars/M&M's and write letters to them. They are a Letterman sponsor, according to Hillbuzz.

A nice "family" sponsor.

narciso

You're right to be suspicious about Javers, I think there was an issue about the Bush administration's ties to Enron, this would have been around 2001-2002, where he didn't have the facts. He's not at the Dana Milbank
level. I think in his rarified circles, he doesn't find that detail, particularly noteworthy, there's no bottom to this'bagel'
; a West Wingism for recession, depression, or some term left to be coined. Now if Rick is right, much of this money being dispersed
out the door, will not boost consumption, so what is it good for. I know empire
building, the massive new bureaucracies.

MeTooThen

Clarice,

Absent a real apology any pol who appears on his show should be chastised for allowing such treatment of a colleague or rival's child.

We have a winner.

This should be the policy of any pol, but must be the rule for the GOP.

Full Disclosure: I am not a republican or member or any political party.

Thank you.

And God Bless America.

Just sayin'.

Pofarmer

Expert guy doing such a story was too lazy to put out the effort to educate himself

Daddy, that's going on everywhere. My wife thinks I spend too much time on the intertubes, and I probably do, but it's not laziness, I just HATE the lies in the msm, and want to know the truth, whatever it is.

Extraneus

Btw, I gave SarahPAC $50 today. I bet I'm not the only one.

clarice

Let the Mars Candy sponsors of Lettermen know your feelings.

http://www.mars.com/global/Contact+Us/Contact+us.htm

BobS

I'm afraid that Democrats live be different sets of principles and value structures. Their demonization and prosecutorial efforts of political adversaries never goes through any self reflections. Its ok as long as they get away with it and its hurts republicans. They are a party whom the American people can trust. It will take a generation to clean the rot.

clarice

Well--write CBS and Mars..Remember these people are STUPID--they have to be reminded we are out here and we do NOT think this is appropriate or funny.

Pofarmer

It will take a generation to clean the rot.

Unfortunately, a lot of this generation like the rot.

BobS

sorry....dems can no longer be trusted....its party WAAAAAAAAY before country

BobS

Their first step after the Obama win was to party build, call it stimulus, but bill the taxpayer. Then of course, lie about it.

Extraneus

Good idea, Clarice.

As a sponsor of the Late Night with David Letterman show, you should know that I have decided to boycott both him and his sponsors after his disgusting two-day assault on the decency of Sarah Palin and her daughter. I hope you will do the same.

Danube of Thought

I think the issue with TM's "Spellcheck" line was the word "down." But the guy who posted about it was too dumb to make his point.

centralcal

Thank you, Clarice! I fully intend to write to Mars . . . but in the morning, over my cup of coffee, not tonite, sipping a Manhattan. Wouldn't be prudent to do it tonite.

PeterUK

If Letterman was making sexual jokes about a fourteen year old girl, that is child abuse.
The man needs to go on a sex offenders list.

dk70

Developing on Drudge

The blatantly obvious reason why Dems want to rush Sotomayor through the hearings. Maybe the Supremes can help us out with an early Ricci decision since they weren't going to scuttle the Chrysler deal. I wonder what's the over/under on days til the next bankruptcy.

"Sotomayor once described herself as 'product of affirmative action'...

...admitted to two Ivy League schools despite scoring lower on standardized tests than many classmates, which she attributed to 'cultural biases... built into testing'... Developing..."

Stephanie

Meh... TM was just goofing on the typo in the Colmes piece... it was intentional. He repeated the "think" and added "down" for good measure.

PeterUK

Clarice,
Mars Candy, the company which makes confections eaten by millions of children sponsors a man who makes paedophilic jokes?
How appalling!

clarice

I'm so sure they'd love to hear from you PUK along with your promise to let their British customers know.

PeterUK

"Unfortunately, a lot of this generation like the rot."

Yes,because they are saprophytes.

peter

Don't count on getting Sotomayor's so-so scores released until after we get Obama's college transcripts, health records and birth certificate released, i.e., the twelfth day after never.

Extraneus

Didn't 0bama admint he might not make it through the hearings?

Extraneus

Should I mention I didn't mean admint?

AL

I do not think Colmes is an idiot.

Playing role of the genuine clown in hostile environment of H&M for so many years takes some brain and stamina.

narciso

One of these days, she's going to get tired of saying Told Ya So, I know that's only happened once, explicitly this week. Miranda rights for terrorist, Judge Jackson would be 'rolling over in his grave' as the cliche goes.

dk70

She's probably got a bunch of speeches talking about affirmative action/testing bias. However, I thought wise Latinas were supposed to be super geniuses.

No Chinese folk passed the Ricci test too. They didn't have any questions on Chinese fire drills I suppose. Blatant testing bias raises its head again.

Stephanie

Taping tonight's episode of The Late Show, David Letterman took a few minutes to respond to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who called him "pathetic" in a radio interview after he made her and her family the butt of a recent Top 10 list. The late-night host had drawn particular fire from Palin and some pundits for a joke about one of Palin's daughters being impregnated by New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez during a trip to Yankee Stadium. Camp Palin apparently took the joke to be a crack against Palin's 14-year-old daughter Willow, who had recently attended a Yankees game, but Letterman insisted today that the real target was 18-year-old daughter Bristol.

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter [Bristol]... and now they’re upset with me…” Letterman says on tonight's show. "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl.... Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No." Saying he hopes he's "cleared part of this up," Letterman extended an invitation to Palin to come on the show as a guest.

So Letterman says he meant Bristol (well that's different/sarc), I guess you could conclude the invitation might be for the First Dude.... and his hockey stick...

The excuse/apology is bullshit... and not gonna soothe the situation...

and now they’re upset with me… Do all dems climb on a cross and whine about their supposed martyrdom??? Like victimization wasn't whiney enough? Dude's a pu**y, first class...

Camp Palin apparently took the joke to be a crack against Palin's 14-year-old daughter Willow, who had recently attended a Yankees game, but Letterman insisted today that the real target was 18-year-old daughter Bristol.

This paragraph casts the Palins as the at fault party for having misinterpreted the joke... typical Chillbillies... reinforcing the Pervs claims of martyrdom... sick.

Stephanie

Whoops, wrong LUN...

Fixed.

narciso

Also this detail, from the HoustonChronicle,
about a Exxon/Transcanadian pipeline deal
coming up. Now if Parker, Frum, Noonan & co, can show anyone else with proven results
I'd like to hear about it

PeterUK

I think you should start examining the possibility of suing the CiC because a lot of good soldiers are going to get killed reading suicidal fanatic their rights.
It happened with the Japanese. Someone who regards surrender as a disgrace and would rather die taking their captor with them is going to love Miranda.

Stephanie

promiscuous sex = rape to DL in that apology BTW...

Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex?

Freak.

He also only apologized for clearing "part of this up" so he knows the other stuff isn't smelling any better (guess the lawyers haven't come up with an apology/explanation/bullshit to cover the additional stuff up with yet) I'd say the lawyers need more time to put lipstick on this pig, but Letterman probably wears lipstick in private and what he does with pigs....

PeterUK

" Palin apparently took the joke to be a crack against Palin's 14-year-old daughter Willow, who had recently attended a Yankees game, but Letterman insisted today that the real target was 18-year-old daughter Bristol."

Did Bristol go to the game? If not,Letterman is telling porkies.

Pofarmer

I see nobodies jumpimg up to champion Jindahl.

Rocco

Good Call PUK

Pedophiles and candy!

jimmyk

Did Bristol go to the game? If not,Letterman is telling porkies.

Regardless, Letterman's "excuse" is tantamount to the guy charged with statutory rape saying "I thought she was 18; I think she told me she was 18, yeah, that's it."

And it's not as though it's fine to tell those jokes about someone's daughter who happens to have turned 18. I'm pretty sure that Chelsea was well over 18 when considerably tamer jokes about her elicited abject apologies.

sbw

I was just over at Instapundit where he was mentioning miranda-ing terrorists and McCain's part pushing it. Clearly "None of the above" was the proper vote last November. To find Obama abhorrent and not have an acceptable alternative candidate on the ballot is pathetic.

Yeah.

I guess it's understandable when you're distracted by the pinstripers going 0-7 0-8 (so far).

GO SOX!

Geezer

Letterman should be forced to open every show by snuggling a condom onto his head and getting into the Uniform of the Day....the prick.

centralcal

To find Obama abhorrent and not have an acceptable alternative candidate on the ballot is pathetic.

Well . . . how do we stop it from happening yet again? The way the primaries are set up, plus the constant, shrill propaganda from the media in every direction, and the wusses we have on our side (hardee har har) in the Senate and House . . . where is our out from this nightmare?

I voted for McCain. Not because I like him or anything about him, but because he wasn't Obama, and because of Sarah Palin. I personally cannot stand John McCain. I cannot stand anything about him - but somehow felt he was the lessor of two evils. We DESERVE and NEED better choices next time around. But will we get a better choice? I am not certain.

I hate to point this out, but the last GOP president from Congress did what in the office?

I think that governors are the better source. Better trained, better ethics, closer to the actual people than the "Others".

Hey, CC,

You how they told us that Michelle and the girls were staying a couple of days extra for Sasha's birthday. Get this from Lynn Sweet:

The First Lady's office has declined to say when she is coming home. "I can't talk about future travel," Mustaphi said. "I can confirm things that have happened in the past."

She is sure wearing thin with me.

That would be Ford of WIN, Attorney General Levi, who hamstrung the FBI, who let Saigon fall to the NVA. Or Nixon, of wage and price controls, the EPA and affirmative action fame, I know he had a Democratic Congress, but he made it a little too easy for them.

PD

It's not even an apology; "I really meant the 18 year-old Bristol" AS IF THAT MAKES IT OK!!!

Greta's take on this: So a rape joke is not okay if it's about a 14-year-old, but it's okay if it's about an 18-year-old?
