"Late last week, Obama vowed anew that "health insurance reform cannot add to our deficit over the next decade and I mean it."

Adding "and I mean it" is something only someone who knows he's now perceived as a liar has to do."

Theyare also the words of a congenital liar. Next he will be saying "On my children's Lives". "I'm a pretty straight sort of a guy".
"My word is my bond"

PO we had the first batch of fresh corn of the season here on Sat. It went for $8.00 a dozen.

You mean he won't "respect me in the morning," as he said he would, Puk?

RichatUF

DebinNC-

Nice catch. I think "health insurance reform" is a new formulation.

Rick-

Ranger thanks for the link. I'm surprised to see something that balanced from al-AP. This statement is a real howler: "Orszag, making the rounds of Sunday talk shows, insisted the economy at the end of last year, which the White House used for its optimistic budget forecasts, 'was weaker at that time than anyone anticipated.' He cited a 'sense of free fall' not fully recognized at the time."

They have to think we are all stupid. They must also be the stupidest administration ever. Were they asleep for the Lehman and AIG collapse. Obama voted for TARP, the House did a dry run on failure and the markets promply dropped between 7%-9%, to concentrate the minds of the political class in Washington. The indispensable Geithner was in the room for all the decisions and through his office at the NY Fed had a front row seat of the crisis.

Was Obama lieing when he said it was a crisis the scope of the Great Depression (and it has been bad, but bad in the 81-82 recession and 50's recessions way, not the 30% decline during the depression)?

PO we had the first batch of fresh corn of the season here on Sat.

Here too, Jane. We had the first two ears from our garden this weekend. The first tomatoes too.

OldTimer

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Glaciers are GROWING in America....even as we speak! And the Indian's have royally dissed Hillary..

Read all about it at Iceagenow.com

Really!

glasater

Porchlight--I don't think there are any green shoots!!

Per the Heritage Foundations:

This delay matters enormously to the deliberations of Congress on this central issue. If it knew that the near-term budget picture is worsening and that it cannot count on a recovering economy to produce much needed revenues for reforming health care, it might hesitate in passing legislation that would add tremendously to the national debt.
Pofarmer

PO we had the first batch of fresh corn of the season here on Sat. It went for $8.00 a dozen.

Holy Carp, I won't bitch about $3 a dozen at the local farmers market then. I gave up growing our own sweetcorn because the deer and the coons took to getting most of it. Byproduct of coon pelts not being worth anything.

I'll try to get some crop pics in the next week or so, it's a hodgepodge. I took some pics the end of June or so, and it was really sad. I ought to go back and try to get some of the same fields. I've got some of hay in progress this week, and a couple vids I intend to post on photobucket.

Porchlight

Meaningless Facebook poll making the rounds:

If the 2008 Presidential Election were held today, would you vote the same way?

I voted for Obama and I stand by that vote.
50,357 (35.3%)

I voted for Obama and regret it. I would change my vote today.
1,435 (1.0%)

I did not vote for Obama and I stand by that vote.
85,209 (59.8%)

I did not vote for Obama, but now I like him and would vote for him today.
953 (0.7%)

I didn't vote. But given the chance I would support Obama today.
1,727 (1.2%)

Porchlight

I don't think so either, glasater - no administration would hide good economic news. I was just imagining the WH spin - you know, we have to keep the green shoots under wraps, so they don't shrivel up and die or something.

PeterUK

Clarice.

No,also he didn't take precautions and will tell all his friends.
The Cad in Chief.

Parking Lot

I wonder how the negative reaction to 0's 'health insurance reform' is affecting his personal mental state. I'm guessing he must be shocked and confused ... probably thought that it would meet with at least a 67% majority of adoration, applause, and love because, let's face it, as everyone knows 0 is the brightest light on the planet. BTW did you know that John Kerry served in 'Nam?

glasater

Porchlight--this admin is so stupid--like the congresscritters don't already know?

Referring to sweet corn--this time of year I have a favorite roadside produce stand that I give most of my business just because their "stuff" is so good.
As I was headed down to the stateline area of Oregon I can tell you that I have not seen so many roadside produce stands in all the years I've been making the summer produce trek.
I'll just say that ALL of these folks do not take credit cards--if you get my drift here.

fdcol63

Parking Lot,

Given his arrogance and hubris, I think O is probably thinking that the rest of us just aren't smart enough to recognize that the brilliance of his policies is in fact succeeding, despite our lying eyes.

fdcol63

glasater,

I don't think this admin is "stupid". I think they are achieving their Marxist objective of destroying "traditional", "capitalistic" America.

RichatUF

And in re: healthcare-Mankiw has been a pretty good source of criticism for some of the Obama Administration's stated reasons for healthcare (or is it now health insurance) reforms.

It will increase heathcare spending.

It will blow out the federal budget.

Healthcare costs do not make the US uncompetitive internationally in business.

Government healthcare doesn't have lower administrative costs than the private sector.

glasater

I think they are achieving their Marxist objective of destroying "traditional", "capitalistic" America.

Would tend to agree with you for the most part fdcol63. Although we may be down--we're not out yet.

Folks like this guy give me some hope.

RichatUF

And the eagles are soaring today. -7 with negatives climbing.

On July 14th Dana Perino was on TV and said Obama was done. She said to mark the date (so of course I did).

I think she was right.

This was from yesterday here in Nashville:

... UNSEASONABLY COOL TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TONIGHT...

CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO CONTROL THE WEATHER ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE TODAY AND TONIGHT. CLOUDS WILL FORM TODAY AND KEEP TEMPERATURES IN CHECK. THE RECORD LOW HIGH TEMPERATURE AT THE NASHVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TODAY IS 79 DEGREES SET IN 1897. A NEW RECORD WILL BE SET TODAY.

THE RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE TONIGHT IN NASHVILLE IS 59 AND IN CROSSVILLE IS 57... SET IN 1947 AND 1970 RESPECTIVELY. NEW RECORD LOWS ARE EXPECTED.

New Kudlow term--Kremlinomics!

Squidly

As I watch, CNN weather is reporting record lows broken last night from Northern Minnesota, Northern Michigan down to Southern Tennessee.

DebinNC

Transcript of Chris Wallace interviewing Peter Orszag and Sen. Judd Gregg yesterday on health care plan costs. Orszag may be a genius, but, thank goodness, he isn't an appealing fellow. No one will believe the whoppers he's telling because he's charming.

PeterUK

The money markets will have been running the numbers on Obama's policies. He will know soon enough what they think of Obama care.

fdcol63

Hey ... the AGW people explained all this in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow".

Global warming leads to an ice age.

They covered all the bases. LOL

DebinNC

New Kudlow term--Kremlinomics

Dems supporting Kremlinomics are committing suicide-by-Obama. Speaking of new terms, someone suggested replacing "bulls***!" with "Pelosi!" I love it.

"Say, why isn't there more coverage of Bo?"

Body odour just isn't cool right now.

Porchlight

50-49 overall. Rasmussen didn't say so explicitly but I believe that 50 number is a new low.

glasater

Farmers' Almanac has a post up forecasting:

a “numbing” winter, with below-average temperatures for at least two-thirds of the country. Only the Far West and Southeast will see near-normal temperatures. Few, if any, locations will enjoy many above-normal temperature days this upcoming season.
Porchlight

And while we're on polls, sorry I think this might have already been linked:

Rasmussen 2012 Matchups: Obama 45, Romney 45; Obama 48, Palin 42

So after nearly a year of all-out media assault on Palin plus the Obama multi-year love fest and election victory, she still gets 42 to his 48. That is simply incredible.

PeterUK

"So after nearly a year of all-out media assault on Palin plus the Obama multi-year love fest and election victory, she still gets 42 to his 48. That is simply incredible."

More incredible Obama is the sitting president.

Sue

Instead of ABB will it be ABO?

hrtshpdbox

I guess it's all about what case you'd like to make. Rasmussen headline:
40% of GOP Voters Say Resignation Hurts Palin’s Chances in 2012

According to the article, 52% think it either helps her chances or makes no difference, but it's probably just me who thinks that's the noteworthy take on it.

Sue

Rush is playing Obama and Pelosi on high speed, since they are rushing health care through. ::grin::

RichatUF

Has anyone seen the Drudge Report of some of the government spending on pork products?

daddy

Just a question,

Listening to the first hour of Bill Bennett's morning show on the headsets while falling asleep last night, he said that earlier in the day he had been on CNN. He said that he had mentioned how the CBO said the Health Care plan numbers were going to be many, many billions over budget, but that his co-panelist on CNN, Donna Bazille, said that was false that CBO had revised their numbers and now said Obama's health Care plan worked and was Budget Neutral. He couldn't respond because he hadn't seen that.
So, does anyone know if was she honest about a CBO update, or was she lying? Sorry, don't have time this AM to look it up myself.

Porchlight

but it's probably just me who thinks that's the noteworthy take on it.

hrtshpdbox,

Good point. The framing of the question is also interesting. The voters in that poll weren't asked what they personally thought of Palin's resignation. They were asked how they thought it affected her chances of winning. Different questions.

Also noteworthy is that her 42% slice against Obama comes only two weeks after our betters in the media told us her political career was over due to her resignation.

Ranger

Has anyone seen the Drudge Report of some of the government spending on pork products?

Posted by: RichatUF | July 20, 2009 at 12:25 PM

Oh yes. Drudge really set them up for a sucker punch. He posted the links this morning. When Team Barry responded that they weren't spending Millions on a single ham, but paying $1.50 a pound for canned ham, Drudge posted a link to Food Lion showing you can get ham for $.79 a pound, so they are still over paying by almost 100%.

PeterUK

Yes, but it is Halal ham.

We tied a record low here in Atlanta over the weekend, and this has been the nicest July I ever recall here. (Highs in low 80s, no humidity). Feels like September. My Mom, in Northeast Ohio, has managed to summon her willpower, and not turn on the furnace.

June, on the other hand, was hot.

DebinNC

Wizbang: "By the way, today is the deadline for Obama's cabinet secretaries to provide the ways in which they will cut $100 million out of their budgets. [BO on 4-20 gave cabinet members 90 days] Have they come up with anything? They haven't come up with anything. Not one red cent. Yet, Obama says he can cut billions of dollars from medicare, medicaid and health care? Yeah, right."

Excellent point

Porchlight

Appalled,

Good for your mom. I gave in and had the heat on here in MN on Friday night.

PeterUK

It seems to be September over much of the Northern Hemisphere.

Pagar

When she was saying her name was Donna Bazille, she was probably truthful. The lies started immediately after that.

But don't take my word for it, Google
"CBO-Obama's health Care plan cost "
and there is no mention of CBO saying that the plan would be revenue neutral. I don't understand how anyone thinks they have a handle on what it is going to cost if they are going to cover illegal aliens. No one has a clue how many illegal aliens are in the US. No one has a clue what the rate of usage by these illegal aliens would be if they were told that they could get all the free treatment they wanted with out fear of being deported.

Rick Ballard

"comes only two weeks after our betters in the media told us her political career was over due to her resignation"

Porchlight,

Please include the noncredentialed morons on the right who have yet to process the fact that she completed the XOM deal. The importance of that will become apparent a little further down the road.

I'm thinking Palin/Romney or vice versa at the moment but a terror strike backed by Iran in the fall will change things rather drastically.

PeterUK

You can't have a Welfare State with open borders - Milton Friedman.

RichatUF

Rick-

Please include the noncredentialed morons on the right who have yet to process the fact that she completed the XOM deal.

Appaluse. It wasn't even a secret as she made the news show rounds talking up the pipeline deal. But still, "our betters", know better.

JorgXMcKie

I didn't have time to read all the comments, so pardon me if I'm covering old ground.

As someone who has farmed, been in the farming industry, and gardened for years, just let me say that the important thing for food production is "growing degree days". This is measured differently (a bit) by different groups, but essentially, it is the number of degrees above what is necessary for a plant to grow (50 degrees for many) and up to the point at which it no longer helps, around 100 degrees F.

So, say a corn crop that needs 1400 GGDs to mature, will need not a certain number of 'warm' days, but a certain number of days with heat above the necessary until they total 1400. This is when the corn is 'ripe' (black line development on the kernel), *not* when it has dried enough for useful harvest.

Based on my tomato plants, which are about half normal size for this time of year (or less), I'm guessing we're down a substantial number of GGDs this summer (in Detroit), and it will have repercussions for food production in general.

Silver is an idiot, but then as an AGW supporter (is that like a jock strap?) he would have to be, wouldn't he.?

Pofarmer

I'm thinking Palin/Romney or vice versa at the moment but a terror strike backed by Iran in the fall will change things rather drastically.

Put in anybody but Romney and I'm with ya. In my eyes, he's McCain light. I think whoever described him as a Labrador was right on. Anything to please the audience. His stand on health care reform ain't that much different the Obama's. O.K. If Romney is second on the ticket, maybe.

Rick Ballard, look for Mr. Barofsky to be spending more time with his family soon.

There are over 1000 unwanted IG's in government service, so remember folks to have your IG's spayed or neutered BEFORE they start barking.
If they do park please bring them down to Uncle Barry's IG shelter where they'll be humanely euthanized.

glasater

Dave (in MA)--you beat me to the punch on the IG spending more time with his family.

I have CNBC on in the background and that report came out with a figure of 23 T (that's trillion). In Rick's link I did not see that figure but it must have come and gone with the wind.

Anyway, the pundits were aghast and speedily trying to 'splain == if there was a misstatement or whatever that inconceivable number could represent.

Pagar

Hold up discussion on the healthcare bill, until we get all the wild horses signed up for their birth control pills and welfare. Remember, if you decide to adopt a wild horse the government has to send a government employee to your house to make sure you will be providing a suitable home for the animal.

Orszag may be a genius, but, thank goodness, he isn't an appealing fellow. No one will believe the whoppers he's telling because he's charming.

He really looked like a sneaky little douche, no? Between him and Chris Wallace there wasn't a gram of testosterone in the studio.

glasater

Zero's going to be on CNBC talking about--what else--health care.

glasater

Aha!! Here is a WSJ report on 23 Trillion.

PDinDetroit

Jorg - We are definitely having colder than normal temps this year. I was just in Lapeer County last week and none of the corn looked like it was "knee high by the 4th of July".

LUN shows low today was 41 in Manistee!

matt

why do I get a picture of Dan Ackroyd dressed as Santa, stuffing his pockets with roast beef and smoked salmon when I think of White House staff events now? I think it's becoming a kleptocracy.

PeterUK

This might help to conceptualise a TRILLION dollars.

Odds are Obama knows not of that which he speaks.

PDinDetroit

Yes, matt, the Liar-In-Thief is speaking now...

Obama was going to do another "health reform" infomercial on MSNBC with a tag team of Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann as emcees, but then someone reminded him that hardly anyone watches MSNBC anymore.

Don't forget the tab is $23.7 trillion.
A bi too much to say keep the change.

PDinDetroit

Great IBama Quotes that should have been from today's speech:

"and I will be able to get nicotine gum to help with my addiction"

"I can reduce the coverage on Michelle's assets"

"I can finally afford to get my goofy ears fixed properly this time"

Best line: Let's pass this reform by the end of the year.

Guess he understands that he better change the "due date" before this becomes his waterloo...

PDinDetroit

MSNBC: The Witness Protection Witless Projection Network.

There, fixed it for ya.

glasater

HAH!!

Zero said--let's pass health care reform by the end of this year!!

He's backing off the "before the August recess" mantra.

glasater

Hi PDinDetroit-

Similar minds and all:)

Boatbuilder

Be careful about that sucker bet. I understand that in certain towns in Minnesota all the children are above average, according to liberal wisdom. I suspect that they'll cite equally reliable sources for temperatures.

Captain Hate

Zero said--let's pass health care reform by the end of this year!!

He's backing off the "before the August recess" mantra.

That's a major victory because the only way that gets passed later is if:

1)It gets scaled back so much as to not be the economy wrecker that it currently is

2)The economy improves so it looks like Bammers et al know wtf they're doing.

PDinDetroit

Yes, Zero comes out and spouts meaningless platitudes and high-brow rhetoric, all the while he is backing off dates due to lack of support. I noticed that his nose was in the air when calling out the opponents stating that this will be his Waterloo. What a spineless wonder and arrogant fool!

I never noticed before that he has 2 woolly-mammoth caterpillars masquerading as eye-brows.

RichatUF

It looked like he had a few drinks before the presser too.

Rick Ballard

"It looked like he had a few drinks before the presser too."

Just the usual - couple of eye openers, a bracer and three pick me ups. He's almost ready for lunch...

BTW, http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ZmI1OTE3YjUxNmFhN2ZjZjgzNmU5MDY2YzU4ODlhYjE=>the corner a clarification on the Dem talking point about Obama care being budget neutral. It also has a link to a great post that shows very clearly that this claim is a lie.

matt

I wonder if the punditi will call this a major setback for Ogabe?

He's going to have to spin and swerve all over the place now, and even his most ardent supporters are getting the phone calls and worried looks on their faces.

Apparently, the blue stocking Dem's are getting seriously ticked off that Ogabe is going to stick it to them the hardest on the health care bill. Some of those districts went Dem for the first time last year, and boy must they be feeling buyer's remorse. These people may be starting to wake up to what a tool this guy really is.

It will be interesting to see how he and the hard core lefties react. Tick, tick, tick, tick......Mr. O's time may be running out.

MayBee

Somebody at Tapper's had the most genius name for Orzag: Obama's budget boy.

ha ha ha ha ha.

As usual, no one asks him what is he willing to compromise on, in order to bring the bill along, I know it's a rhetorical point. He has virtual total mediasaturation on his objectives, the CPR are a pale copy of "Harry and Louise"

DebinNC

Serious Health Care Reform Proposal ...h/t Insty who calls it "too sensible".

Morris Maynard

um... Los Ninjas!?

Sue

I just perused some of the progressive sites. The comments will kill ya! Everyone should have free medical care. The only people against single payer are the rich and insurance companies (which doesn't explain me, since I'm neither). Electricity and water are a basic right and should never been turned off. Food is essential, the government should supply it.

Sue

Oh and libertarians and neocons are going to kill them all. Very odd, but several seem to think we want them dead if we aren't willing to provide free everything for them.

PDinDetroit

Sue - yes, we are out to kill them all. We want them to practice what they preach.

They preach that there is no God and that Evolution is right. This means that "only the strong survive" and if they can't do it themselves, then they do not deserve to. Instead, they want to be God and give freely to everyone to make it all fair.

Their hypocrisy knows no bounds...

PaulL

Cable TV is the most basic right of all.

Sue

PD in Det,

I am going to steal that.

PDinDetroit

Sue - I am humbled that you would. Please feel free.

Speaking of hypocrisy, the Colorado ACLU is actually going to bat indirectly for 2A Rights - See LUN for more info.

fdcol63

Yet again, their logic fails.

After all, if we Right-wing buts kill all the liberals, who will we enslave?
