My husband reports that the clowns on the Hill are waking up to the fact that they're being driven over the cliff. The morning Post indicates they've already reversed the administration's decision to cancel all those car dealerships. Thw WaPo online has a fab piece by Reason editors noting that Obama is getting close to Carter cardigan time.

PFC Casillas was buried yesterday back in the central Valley where he grew up. He always wanted to be a soldier, and he paid the soldier’s price. He was met by his family and friends and the Patriot Guard at the airport, and the Woodland and Dunnegan Fire Departments and CHP provided an escort and honor guard. Yesterday they and other public safety officers did the same again as they laid him to rest. It seems that across the country, we reach out now to the families to honor these kids, and some old men sometimes too, who pay that price. People were lined along the streets in respect as PFC Casillas was taken to his final rest , holding flags and covering their hearts with their palms.

PFC Fairbairn was met with a similar escort when he arrived at the Hoquiam, WA airport out on the coast south of Seattle at the base of the Olympic Peninsula. He enlisted in early 2008 and this was his first deployment. He will be buried tomorrow.

These young men knew their duty and did it in the face of death to protect all Americans. As we had our barbecues and picnics and parades, and as we ate too much and drank too much, these kids died for our freedoms to say and think and do as we pretty well please. We don’t see this in the suburbs and cities. Death is distant, hermetically sealed off. It’s in the small towns that we see the price of war more clearly.

We must respect the sacrifice of these young men and so many others who have paid that price and demand more of ourselves in return. It’s called keeping the faith. May God rest their souls and comfort their loved ones and buddies back in Afghanistan.

I have noticed recently (on just my laptop IE) that some websites, including JOM, install a link dg.specificclick.net in the back pulldown. Seems to me when researching that link I came across greasemonkey. The specificclick link appears to steal clicks from back and have seen claims it is associated with sitemeter.

Considered going midevil on it but haven't had the time or inclination.

Catching up on this long thread (would have been much shorter if Clarice had gotten Semantic right between the eyes into his bird brain) and preparing for a big family reunion. Youngest son flying out next week from Pittsburg. Which, for me, makes Matt's beautiful tribute even more poignant. I have never lost a son to war, but I can feel intensely the pain of those who have and feel the gratitude for their sacrifice.

I too grew up watching Cronkite/CBS news and am sorry to say that he "died" for me years ago - along with most of the legacy media. I also remember watching nearly every episode of "You Are There." May he rest in peace.

Maybe I'm growing soft but my reaction to the Semantic blast at matt was that it was a sock-puppet; not that the original isn't capable of something equally vile (and no; I wasn't the sock-puppet although I strongly approve of that tactic in ridiculing him). He/She/It didn't deny saying it, but to do that would be to admit that it cared about what the rest of us thought, which is highly unlikely.

The genuine article posted about how hateful 'xtians' are for not supporting health care. That is the axelturfer spam talking point du jour, as this typical response to an Obamacare criticism from another forum indicates:
