These two headlines from Drudge were meant to be together:
"HELP WANTED: Dept of Treasury seeks contractors for 'power of humor' ".
and:
Joe Biden: ‘We Have to Go Spend Money to Keep From Going Bankrupt’
We'll be laughing all the way to the bankruptcy.
My husband reports that the clowns on the Hill are waking up to the fact that they're being driven over the cliff. The morning Post indicates they've already reversed the administration's decision to cancel all those car dealerships. Thw WaPo online has a fab piece by Reason editors noting that Obama is getting close to Carter cardigan time.

Thank you for sharing that, Matt.

Really OT of interest to trollblock users like me: in trying to diagnose the mess that my ISP has made of my connection I've been poking about in logfiles.
Posted by: cathyf | July 18, 2009 at 10:31 AM
And I'm getting errors from greasemonkey. Does anyone know if I should care about them?

Clarice:
C'mon polls--keep going straight down!
I liked that piece. That it was published by WaPo is a good thing.
Comparing Obama to Carter and urging him to be more like Clinton is very smart.
But you know who Obama compares to at this point in his presidency?
Bush.
As of yesterday, the Real Clear Politics poll average had Obama's approval at 55.8%.
You know what Bush's RCP poll average approval was on 7/28/01?
55.8%
But you know how Bush and Obama are not alike?
Bush's disapproval rating on 7/28/01 was 31%
Obama's disapproval rating yesterday was ...
...
37.8%
Obama: Much more unpopular than Bush!

I'm no help, cathyf, but if there's an easy way to put trolls on ignore here I'd like to know it.

Matt, it's too bad that we don't have more writers like you working for our national newspapers. As your story demonstrates, a straight reporting of unembellished facts not only reaches minds but also touches hearts. The facts speak for themselves and what they say is eloquent.
For myself, I feel the best way to honor the lives of those courageous and heroic young men, is to double down in my trust in the spiritual promise that life is eternal.
God bless the families of those dear young men, and God bless their own living, continuing, breathing lives, even though we temporarily can not see them.

cathyf,
I have noticed recently (on just my laptop IE) that some websites, including JOM, install a link dg.specificclick.net in the back pulldown. Seems to me when researching that link I came across greasemonkey. The specificclick link appears to steal clicks from back and have seen claims it is associated with sitemeter.
Considered going midevil on it but haven't had the time or inclination.

Deb, narcisolator is actually really good at putting trolls on ignore.
Posted by: cathyf | July 18, 2009 at 10:45 AM
(And as an added bonus, it removes the mid-paragraph carriage returns that narciso sprinkles in the midst of his postings.)
Posted by: cathyf | July 18, 2009 at 10:46 AM
The problem is that I had a devil of a time installing it -- I clicked on the links that were so helpfully supplied, nothing happened,...
Posted by: cathyf | July 18, 2009 at 10:46 AM
...I clicked again, poked, prodded, and then at some point it started to work. What we need is an "installing trollblocker for dummies" posting.

Speaking of trollblocker and narcisolater, I miss bgates
Posted by: hit and run | July 18, 2009 at 10:48 AM
Trollblocker means I never have to read Cleo blather. Its a true gift from heaven. Strongly endorse the product like Billy Mays would have!

Catching up on this long thread (would have been much shorter if Clarice had gotten Semantic right between the eyes into his bird brain) and preparing for a big family reunion. Youngest son flying out next week from Pittsburg. Which, for me, makes Matt's beautiful tribute even more poignant. I have never lost a son to war, but I can feel intensely the pain of those who have and feel the gratitude for their sacrifice.
I too grew up watching Cronkite/CBS news and am sorry to say that he "died" for me years ago - along with most of the legacy media. I also remember watching nearly every episode of "You Are There." May he rest in peace.

Where is bgates? I miss him , too. And windandsea showed up only briefly. I suppose people have lives in the real world//I just want everyone to be okay.
Posted by: clarice | July 18, 2009 at 11:05 AM
it removes the mid-paragraph carriage returns that narciso sprinkles in the midst of his postings.
I initially read that as "mid-paragraph carnage returns".
Maybe I'm growing soft but my reaction to the Semantic blast at matt was that it was a sock-puppet; not that the original isn't capable of something equally vile (and no; I wasn't the sock-puppet although I strongly approve of that tactic in ridiculing him). He/She/It didn't deny saying it, but to do that would be to admit that it cared about what the rest of us thought, which is highly unlikely.
Posted by: Captain Hate | July 18, 2009 at 11:06 AM
I miss bgates as well. I see him occasionally at Political Punch and Ace's.

--I wasn't the sock-puppet although I strongly approve of that tactic in ridiculing him--
I strongly approve of it, not only as ridicule, but also because it seems to get rid of the lying little sack of s***.
At least until he takes some more drugs.

((I wasn't the sock-puppet although I strongly approve of that tactic in ridiculing him))
The genuine article posted about how hateful 'xtians' are for not supporting health care. That is the axelturfer spam talking point du jour, as this typical response to an Obamacare criticism from another forum indicates:
((Oh, really now. You just hate poor people, don't you. you elitist prig?))
You can't reason with these people, they are beyond reason. You can't insult them, because when it comes to insulting you back, there is no boundary they won't cross. You can't shame them about their outrageous lying, because they know no shame. You can't stop their spamming because they are in a fever to shut down any contrary argument or discussion.
So how to shut these lowlifes up? The encouraging thing is that 0's poll numbers are cratering despite their intellectually dishonest spamming campaigns. Is it too much to hope that their juvenile bs might actually be working against them and that every single one of their outrageous posts is just one more nail in their own poltical coffin?

Ssshhhh! We should encourage the Obama SpamAbteilung. They are the authentic voice of Obama's core support, the only thing keeping him up is this army of idiots.

--So how to shut these lowlifes up?--
PL,
Their problem is, at bottom, an emotional or psychological one not a logical or even political one.
You can pity them but you can never expect them to change.

If we remind the world that we won Tet and that everything Cronkite and his Dem party has told America since is a lie, it shows how the Obama-Emanuel Dem party is so fraudulent.
I put this over at the Boxer thread but that thread seems to have fell by the wayside.
Electing good officials who don't help us get the word out does little for us. From the American Thinker:
Why Democrats Win, Why Republicans Lose
There were Americans who knew the truth, about the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, but as
has been mentioned, our side did not get the word out in a convincing manner. North Vietnam, with the help of Walter Cronkite and John Kerry did.
Today we're seeing the same thing in Washington time after time.
Our elected Conservative leaders have to do better in these battles.

cathyf, trollblocker still works for me with greasemonkey. Could it be that you added a troll and inadvertently changed the code?
Greasemonkey turns off just by tapping the little monkey at the bottom right of Firefox's window. Tap it and see if the error goes away.
Posted by: sbw | July 18, 2009 at 09:57 PM
sbw -- trollblocker still works great for me, it's just that I noticed the error messages. I'm not sure how long they have been happening.
