Poor presidebt, he can't catch a break. The last time he took a question from a child, "Why do you want to be president?" he told her it was because America sucked.

This time around the expoited child who asks a question he has an answer for, turns out to be someone who was on the campaign trail with him.

Dammmmmm, I hate when that happens...

Extraneus

Desperation.

Pofarmer

Gateway pundit has more on the town hall. Turns out supporters were bussed in while protesters stood outside in the rain. I think there was also another questioner that was an obvious plant.

Where's Helen Thomas?

bio mom

There was a question about why Obama remains "bipartisan" on the bill when the Repuiblicans are so uncooperative, or something to that effect.

Cecil Turner

Why doesn't any of the MSM coverage mention the little girl's activist Dem mom? Is it possible they realize it'd drive another spike into the believability of the Administration's well-scripted propaganda program?

ensi

C'mon you can't really be sure that the girl is the Dem activist's daughter.

Let's see the birth certificate.

ensi

meanwhile-could you any of you mouthbreathers talk actual substance for just once?

How about Obama destroying palin's "death panel" crap?

Pofarmer

Let's see the birth certificate.

She already had to show it to sign up for little league.

How about Obama destroying palin's "death panel" crap?

Yes, and "End of Life" consultation is so much more civilised. "No, sweety, you don't get a new hip at 84, just take this pain pill and be a good girl."

"What, the child has downs syndrome? He'll never be functional, why even try to educate him?"

These are exactly the things Ezekial Emmanuel has been writing, Asshat.

DebinNC

ABC/Tapper today: The White House insisted that none of the attendees were pre-screened. Some attendees told ABC News they got their tickets through their local lawmakers or through a White House lottery at whitehouse.gov.

BO has two more "town halls" this week. Will he continuing lying? Will he keep calling on plants? Strategy-wise, does he dare do so and risk what's left of his shrinking believability?

ensi

Bravo pofarmer. A substantive point!

So let me ask you. We have an 84 year old who needs a new hip and has absolutely no money to pay for it.

1. Should she get the hip?

2. Who should pay for it?

RichatUF

ensi-

How about Obama destroying palin's "death panel" crap?

Why would the President make a speech rebutting the commentary of a former governor on a Facebook page? Why would he go so far as to wink at an audience member?

Yep, sure he "destroyed" Palin's "death panel" comment. He destroyed what little credibility he had. I can see the flop sweat and so can his stage managers.

Pofarmer

So let me ask you. We have an 84 year old who needs a new hip and has absolutely no money to pay for it.

1. Should she get the hip?

2. Who should pay for it?

Right now, medicare pays for it. Obama wants to save costs.

1. Should she get the hip?

It's not up to anyone but her to make that decision.

Pofarmer

Why would he go so far as to wink at an audience member?

I thought that was weird, as well. Why copy something like that? I wanna call the dude a Chameleon, but that doesn't seem exactly right, either.

Dave (in MA)
Why would he go so far as to wink at an audience member?
He wasn't winking; he had a mote in his eye.
Appalled

Pofarmer:

I thnk he was talking about something Palin said when he was winking. He might have been channeling the indelible image from the Palin VP debate.

Charlie (Colorado)

I think we're missing the central theme here:

The Obama camp objects to the opposition using kids in their advertising and materials, but does it themselves;

The Obama camp objects to using Obama's children in particular, but uses Palin's;

The Obama camp objects to Nazi symbolism in attacks on their positions, but didn't have a problem with it against Bush.

I think the common point here is that they just think its really unfair and inappropriate to make any criticism of their positions.

Maybe even "unamerican".

Jane

So it's off limits to refer to the Presidebt's kids but pack the place with 11 year olds to drag out for the TV cameras.

YES WE CAN!

Porchlight

By all means, ensi, feel free to argue that Medicare shouldn't pay for an 84-year-old's hip replacement. That would at least be an honest argument, as opposed to the one that Obama is making, which is that we're going to insure everybody and save tons of money without rationing care.

Pofarmer

It's even better than that, Charlie. I'll admit that I haven't read the Rheil world(sp) piece, but it looks like the Dems were actively FUNDING the attacks on the Palin's and their children.

gmax

Charlie

Its almost like Projection on steroids! Now there is a steroid scandal for the Congress to investigate.

gmax

Hip replacement will be free once those evil insurance companies with those disgusting profit motives are given the final solution ( public option for the squeamish ).

RichatUF

Pofarmer-

Why copy something like that?

I sound like a broken record on this but it is from Obama's handbook. The Mirror Effect. It's too bad that former Gov. Palin is the one that is doing a better job of it.

Appalled

Charlie:

It's possible I've missed something, but where did Obama object to the "opposition" using kids in their ads?

Also, when did Obama or his registered spokespeople use Nazi symbolism in attacks on Bush?

PeterUK

"So let me ask you. We have an 84 year old who needs a new hip and has absolutely no money to pay for it.

1. Should she get the hip?

2. Who should pay for it?

Well if it were Obama's grandmother,Obama isn't cracking any empty nuts,he could pay. If not there are the Heinz Kerrys,Soros,Bing,Pelosi the Kennedy Family any number of socialist millionaires and billionaires, who could pay out of pocket change. Presuming they carry cash.

PeterUK

"Why would he go so far as to wink at an audience member?

I thought that was weird, as well. Why copy something like that? I wanna call the dude a Chameleon, but that doesn't seem exactly right, either."

He will be wearing glasses and red high heels next.

Neo

But who would have thought that the sober, deliberative Barack Obama would have nothing to propose but vague and slippery promises -- or that he would so easily cede the leadership clout of the executive branch to a chaotic, rapacious, solipsistic Congress? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom I used to admire for her smooth aplomb under pressure, has clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants about legitimate town-hall protests by American citizens. She is doing grievous damage to the party and should immediately step down.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Obama's aggressive endorsement of a healthcare plan that does not even exist yet, except in five competing, fluctuating drafts, makes Washington seem like Cloud Cuckoo Land. The president is promoting the most colossal, brazen bait-and-switch operation since the Bush administration snookered the country into invading Iraq with apocalyptic visions of mushroom clouds over American cities.

Extraneus

The "death panel" thing was a body blow. Obama mentioned it four times during his staged NH show yesterday, and his minions are still whining about it today. With very little logic, I might add, if they're also asking if it makes sense to give an old lady a hip replacement.

Doesn't that question establish that they're thinking of rationing? Isn't that exactly what Palin referred to?

Sue

I thnk he was talking about something Palin said when he was winking. He might have been channeling the indelible image from the Palin VP debate.

Dear God. Is he childish or what? If he winked at someone to mock a former VP candidate, he is even more of a putz than I thought he was.

Captain Hate

Palin is completely occupying the previously empty space in Il Douche's cranium and that of his minions. The metro punk has almost no street cred as it is, and his snitching program didn't add to that; getting rolled by a woman would be the ultimate blast to his fragile sense of self.

DebinNC

During the campaign, who was the target of "the finger" BO slyly employed several times? Palin? Winking is probably the replacement.

PeterUK

Obama desperately needs to be loved.he cannot understand the spontaneous reception received by Sarah Palin. To get it he will copy any successful characteristic. That is what he does, constructs a persona from what he observes.

Original MikeS

It was crystal clear that Sarah Palin was referring to proposed panels who will decide what medical treatment a patient will receive, (sometimes this is a life or death decision), when she characterized them as "death panels." The White House 'misdirected' the media and intellectually challenged among us to the assisted suicide or "death counseling" proposed for the legislation. Some excellent health care suggestions in this article at WSJ.

DebinNC

I think BO's need to be loved and admired is what made Wright so important to him. He watched Wright continually bring the "congregation" to frenzy and longed to elicit that response and bask in its glow. And as clarice has shown, Obama is in large part uneducated. Wright's sermons, replete with literary and historical allusions, must have seemed dazzling.

Sue

I just googled Obama's townhall wink. Guess what? Not much out there, a few blogs. MSM is not touching it, for the most part.

Original MikeS

And as clarice has shown, Obama is in large part uneducated.

I prefer to just say that Obama is "shockingly ignorant." I think this gives apologists less argument.

Captain Hate

His apologists would sooner find the square root of a negative number than admit he's far from the smartest person in the history of the world.

Pofarmer

he is even more of a putz than I thought he was.

He's gonna have to go pretty far into Putz territory for that to be true for me.

Rich Berger

TM-

You're right, that Staubach piece was topless. I wonder what he has to say about the Big Hawaiian Orchid.

sbw

"uneducated"

O is schooled, in more ways than one. A demonstrably credentialed moron who is, as Original MikeS nuances, shockingly ignorant.

His ability to be easily distracted suggests he is also ADD. No medical records to check.

Cecil Turner

Bravo pofarmer. A substantive point!

Bravo yourself. Your rhetorical question nicely illustrates the rationing issue (and the life-and-death decisions being made by IMAC and subordinated boards). I can see why you'd complain about calling it a "death panel," but your own example demonstrates that's a more honest description than the President's obfuscations to the contrary. (Just as the "single payer" video is more honest than his latter claim it was never his goal.)

But that's the last thread. This one is about why he has a town hall set up as a kabuki theater, with selected questioners, bussed in supporters, and dem operative plants. That's a different kind of lie, but certainly one that ought to be of interest to those concerned about government process (and the consent of the governed from which government's "just powers" are derived). It certainly explains why he can't find an audience member to argue with, despite the fact that a solid majority oppose his plan.

Jane

So here's what I am wondering: If doctors will perform unnecessary tonsillectomies for cash, why won't them withhold end of life treatment for cash. Once a mercenary and all that.

Bill in AZ

((Also, when did Obama or his *registered spokespeople* use Nazi symbolism in attacks on Bush? ))

From Charlie's "Obama camp" to "registered spokespeople".

Kinda narrowing down the goalposts there aren'tcha?

DebinNC

His ability to be easily distracted suggests he is also ADD. No medical records to check.

I wonder if his dependence on TOTUS is due to a medical condition? It was reported months ago, perhaps during the campaign, that Obama's telepromptor dependence was being addressed with efforts to wean him off, but the "therapy" didn't work. I don't see how his dependence gibes with his supposed brilliance.

Bill in AZ

Oh, wait - registered spokespeople = MSM. never mind. They have made the Nazi association plenty of times.

Bill in AZ

((I wonder if his dependence on TOTUS is due to a medical condition? ))

chemical

Original MikeS

Another paradox is that someone so shockingly ignorant can have all the answers to the world's problems.

Charlie (Colorado)

I'm wondering where you go to register as a spokesperson.

Mike Myers

As a "veteran of the Alhambra California town hall front" (Adam Schiff D-CA 29th Congressional District) held last night, I can report that the Dems have found a way to succeed at town halls. A large crowd --two thousand plus or so--heavily laden with union and Barack Obama supporters and organizers. I counted SEIU, AFL-CIO, California Nurses Association, ACORN, AARP, HealthCare@BarackObama.gov labels on the preprinted signs. Also preprinted lapel tags and stickers. The usual organizers with clipboards, an SEIU Healthcare 15 passenger van, and at least some people in the crowd from way outside the boundaries of the District. They had a drum and spent half an hour before the town hall chanting "Health Care Now". Got themselves worked up into a fine lather, yes they did.

All that said the crowd was about evenly split into "for's" and "against's".

Schiff showed up on the dot at 7:00 p.m. with a panel of 4 "experts" and one moderator. The moderator was a Professor at UCLA Med School--who is also a regular commentator on health issues on the local NBC station. He was smooth and good. All questions would be filtered through him, giving Schiff a chance to think before an answer--and also allowing the moderator to "pass the ball" or the question to a panel member. Think of a good point guard in basketball.

The game plan was this; Schiff delivered a canned talking points speech in favor of the H.R. 3200; asked the audience for indication of "passionately for's" and "passionately against's" and sat down. He'd used up 30 minutes of the 90 minutes alloted for the town hall without taking a single question. The panel then swung into action. They each offered their own expertise: the local head of the Kaiser HMO, a consumer advocate who chases "rogue" health insurers, a lady who runs a company that provides geriatric care, a young lady doctor who talked about the plight of young kids with juvenile diabetes.

Okay the panel has used up 30 more minutes.
A half hour to go, and Schiff is ready to take questions. He's successfully run the political equivalent of the old college basketball "four corners offense" where a team that's a few points ahead tries to kill as much of the clock as they can
without taking a shot.

He did ultimately answer 6 questions--from a crowd of more than 2,000 people. Actually he answered three written questions and took 3 questions from the crowd.

I'll give him props; he had the guts to show up, and a successful strategy for getting through the 90 alloted minutes and then he was "outa here" at jet speed.

I think that that will be the strategy for future "Blue Dog" town halls.

matt

Rush has a hilarious send up of Obama using Randy Newman's "Short People" renamed "Old People"....I don't listen to Limbaugh often, but wanted to hear what he had to say after Obama's Pinnochio moment last night.

Mike;

I think the anger at stage managed events will only increase the fervor of those who have been protesting. By the way, I just got an e mail of a Tea Party protest in LA on September 12. It seems the movement is building.

These are being e mailed by friend to friend, and not through community organizations or unions. That is the fatal flaw of the Dems.

LUN

Rob Crawford

How about Obama destroying palin's "death panel" crap?

I hope you realize you're being lied to when you're told there are no such things.

Hell, Obama himself called for them in his ABC-hosted "town hall" when he told the woman that her 100-year-old mother's "love of life" wouldn't count for determining whether she got a pacemaker, and that, instead, she should just have "taken a pain pill".

Rob Crawford

It's possible I've missed something, but where did Obama object to the "opposition" using kids in their ads?

Obama and his supporters have declared Palin's family "fair game" because they appeared on the campaign trail with her. Effectively, they were saying "if she didn't want them attacked, she should have left them at home".

Also, when did Obama or his registered spokespeople use Nazi symbolism in attacks on Bush?

By including Obama, you're setting up a strawman. How about the entire Democrat party instead? You had Democrat lawmakers screaming about "Nazi tactics" on the floor of Congress!

Charlie (Colorado)

Actually, Appalled, I just realized that the link is actually in this blog entry. This very one. See "useful props".

Rob Crawford

His ability to be easily distracted suggests he is also ADD. No medical records to check.

Meh. I suspect the absence of medical records is to cover up evidence of his admitted history of drug use.

In case anyone missed it, LUN, Jackie Mason's insights on the attacks on Palin.

Stephanie

So, the dems answer to the townhalls is to adopt Sarah's basketball analogy and "run with it." She really is messing with their heads, isn't she?

The best defense against a 4 corners offense is to position your tallest and most athletic (gifted) player at the center just under the goal and swat the shots away. She is perfectly positioned to do just that. She can swat them away all day long and they can't foul her...

I don't think they will figure out that this game is rigged... the refs are the mob and so are the scorekeepers...

Sitting at my local Library loading up on books for my next trip. How fortunate to come upon this brand new delightful $15.00 Hard Cover in the new book section:

KID'S LETTERS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Get out your hankie's folks.

"I love Orack Obama
I love Orack Obama
I love Orack Obama
Orack Obama XOXO"
Alexandra, Adamstown, MD

Tearing up yet?

"Because you're Best
Because you're Awesome
Because you're Radical
Because you're Amazing
Because you're Cool
Because you're Kind

Because you're Outstanding
Because you're Blazing
Because you're Admirable
Because you're Marvelous
Because you're Astonishing"

I thought this one was by David Brooks of the NYTimes, but no, it's from Davin, age 11 LA. See, add up the capitalized letter in the 3rd word and read what it spells. Clever.

Sniff Sniff, I' m tearing up now.

"Please stop building highways and look for alternative energy. Do not drill for oil off the coast or in the wildlife refuge in Alaska..."

Nope, not Nancy Pelosi, Eli, age 9, from Maryland.

"On this show called Oprah there was a little boy who said you would succeed in making gas money available for us car drivers...We love you."

Julius, age 9...Skokie, IL Heck, I thought Skokie was where all the American Nazi's hung out. Good to know they're gone, and it's now just nothing but welfare recipients.

"My name is Katie and I am 5 years old. We need to protect our trees, we already have enough toilet paper."

Castro's not going to like Katie, but my heart is warmed.

"I would appreciate it if you would raise the salary for educators...Jordan, age 11, Utah" Jordon's letter was sent in by Mrs Appleby of Mt View Elementary

"What is your plan for immigrants? A suggestion would be to give immigrants legal documentation.
Sincerely, Jose---errr Dennis, age 11, Silver Springs MD."

Well, I'd add more but I can't see through my heartfelt tears falling thick and fast.

JM Hanes

LOL, daddy. When the NH townhall girl got up and asked Obama about the "mean" signs outside, my instantaneous reaction was that some PR flak must actually think that's how an adorable little tweener would put it -- wouldn't want anyone suspecting the question was written by, say, a PR flak, ya know

daddy

JMH,

There were 2 letters in the book by girls named Julia, same as the girl who asked the question. I was interested in seeing if either was possibly written by the same Julia, It appears not---at least in volume 1. I'm holding my breath tho' for volume 2:)

Jane

When the NH townhall girl got up and asked Obama about the "mean" signs outside, my instantaneous reaction was that some PR flak must actually think that's how an adorable little tweener would put it -- wouldn't want anyone suspecting the question was written by, say, a PR flak, ya know

Major Garrett said that she was so well connected that she has met Obama's kids. The Presidebt called on her for the 2nd question and according to Garrett, his aides cringed.

Fresh Air

Those "mean signs," little girl, are what people in a democracy use to make politicians who lie to them confess. It's kind of like when you pulled your sister's hair and told a fib to your mother and your father scared it out of you.

JM Hanes

Jane:

Gotta love Major Garrett!

Somehow the assertion that the Town Hall audience was not "pre-screened" sounds a lot like lawyerly parsing. I'm sure David Axelrod emailed his thousands of special NH friends to spread the news, and encouraged them to take their "chances" in the White House selection "lottery."

What amuses me is how obsessively sensitive Team Obama is to every little swipe-- which they feel compelled to gainsay. When the White House spins it as Obama taking on the critics, it usually just means adding snide to defensive.

JM Hanes

Of course, it could also mean folks weren't screened till they got there.

Birthers: Ignorance is No Excuse
August 11th, 2009 at 4:42 pm by Eugene

According to Public Policy Polling (PPP), a North Carolina polling firm, only 24% of self-identified Republican voters in the state believe Barack Obama was born in the United States. 47% do not believe that Obama is American born, and 29% of Republicans aren’t sure.

One part of PPP’s data might reassure sentient readers somewhat: 7% of those who voted for John McCain do not believe Hawaii to be a part of the United States. Now perhaps this is just another irrational expression of Obama hatred. But, it may also be older voters who never quite absorbed the news that our 50th state is indeed our 50th state.

Sadly, even if the latter is the case, it doesn’t explain very much. Last November, Obama carried North Carolina by just 14,000 or so votes out of about 4.3 million cast, the second closest state contest in the nation after Missouri. Each candidate received a shade over 49% with minor party candidates picking up the rest. So 7% of the McCain vote is just 3.5% of the total state vote. McCain received about 2.128 million votes. 3.5% of that is–back of the envelope about 74,000 votes.

Ok, now lets look at the official exit polls for the state presidential race. McCain got 95% of the Republican vote, Obama got 4%. McCain also got 95% of the white Republican vote, Obama got 4% of that (probably an almost identical cohort). The GOP identified vote comprised 31% of the whole (Dems 42%, independents 27%).

So McCain got almost all of that 31% of the vote that was self-identified Republican. That comes to about 1.275 million of his 2.128 million total (obviously independents and some Democrats comprised the rest of his vote). So charitably subtract those 74,000 North Carolina McCain voters who claim not to know that Hawaii is an American state (charitably, because let’s assume their view is a sign of ignorance, not malice towards Obama). Now McCain’s GOP voting base is down to 1.2 million GOP voters–of which, according to thePPP poll, 76%, or just over 900,000 Republicans in the state, don’t think the president of the United States is legitimate, or aren’t sure about the matter, needing more proof than the two birth announcements that were placed in Hawaiian newspapers at the time of his birth.1

Reminds me of the grim, old joke about Richard Hofstadter’s Anti-Intellectualism in American Life: That it’s amazing he condensed the subject into one volume.

bgates

The above was stolen from a post on David Frum's site. It's by an author writing as "Eugene Debs".

Also, any attempt to link Obama and socialism is stupid.

PeterUK

"My name is Katie and I am 5 years old. We need to protect our trees, we already have enough toilet paper."

Obviously not old enough to consume six pints of Guinness and a chicken vindaloo.

JM Hanes

If you know anything about PPP, you'd know their NC client base is Democratic. You'd be astonished at what a lot of Obama voters around here believe too -- that would be in Volume II. Of course, any card carrying intellectual would have put together a more credible citation than "Eugene," but the statistical concept of "probably an almost identical cohort" was a hoot, so I'll have to give said author a couple points for inventiveness. Call me anti-anti-intellectual, but somehow I don't picture the Hofstadter bulb lighting up in your head without someone else flipping the switch.

JM Hanes

You know, I'd almost trade in today's tomatoes for a chicken vindaloo. Talk about flipping a switch!
