Having bagged ACORN, Andrew Breitbart is apparently poised to move on to a new target. Patterico takes the sensible tack of reading what Breitbart wrote just before breaking the ACORN tapes, when he mentioned ACORN and the National Endowment of the Arts as two uncovered scandals. [UPDATE: The NEA it is! See below']
Since Breitbart also broke the NEA "Artists for Obama On the NEA Dime" issue at his Big Hollywood site, it seems like a safe bet that the NEA is next.
And what to look for? If the next story follows the template of the ACORN sting, we will be treated to tapes of undercover reporters posing as artists and proposing over the top Obama-boosting "art" to enthusiastically nodding NEA grant directors. That said, the timing is tricky - per the initial Big Hollywood expose, the troubling NEA call inviting artists to get behind Obama's message machine was on August 10; could we really have tape of mortifying grant interviews a mere five weeks later? Time will tell!
As to Breitbart's strategy, Patterico says this:
If I were a betting man, I’d be betting big that the upcoming bombshell will relate to the NEA. You read it here first.
But I think Breitbart’s overarching target is even bigger than that: the national media as a whole. Just as the media was caught flatfooted by the ACORN scandal, so too will they be rocked back on their heels by the next bombshell.
Brietbart would be very shrewd to target the MSM rather than Obama. Presidents come and go but an alternative media empire could last, well, a long time. TheACORN story demonstrated both the need for alternatives and Breitbart's ability to be that alternative.
Beyond that the MSM is a softer target. Attacking Obama directly flies in the face of his (sagging) personal popularity. But even reliable libs like Jon Stewart were comfortable framing the ACORN expose as an attack on Big Media.
Now Breitbart has raised the bar and thrown down the gauntlet (or vice versa?). We await an interesting week.
UPDATE: From Big Government:
So what did happen on that call? Was the NEA coordinating with the White House to push their agenda on a group of artists eager for and reliant upon the NEA for grants, or is the NEA telling the truth that this call “was not a means to promote any legislative agenda”?
Tomorrow at noon ET, explosive new information will answer that question and raise many others.
I would say my guess about mortifying pro-Obama grant proposals caught on tape is very much alive.
Also SEIU--but I can't figure it out yet..Sure we could get "performance artists" hooking for Obama..but where does the msm and SEIU come in?
Perhaps we have videographers going to the MSM with proof of misuse of federal funds in exchange for pimping for O, and them turning it down..but the SEIU bit is still not clear to me.

The SEIU funded Wicks' anti-WalMart campaign.
Still can't put the pieces together though.
Posted by: clarice | September 20, 2009 at 06:10 PM
Targeting the MSM? Duh? Breitbart said that was one of his goals with the ACORN sting. Am I the only one that saw that interview on Fox with Hannah & Breithart? He said it, the Fox interviewer must have missed it, because he quickly moved on.
It doesn't take hidden videos of the MSM to start exposong them. Faster ...... Please!
Posted by: MDr | September 20, 2009 at 06:12 PM
So she and Obama are funded by SEIU who lends the muscle esp in the caucus states..she goes on to do "community outreach" for O thru the WH where she's the boss of Yosi caught muscling artists to prostitute themselves for Obama and then--
I suppose the msm turns down the story..
Does the SEIU threaten non-cooperating artists?Offer to get them federal grants? What?
Where's the imaginative TS when we need her?

The Hill:
Obama open to newspaper bailout bill
By Michael O'Brien - 09/20/09 04:24 PM ET
The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.
"I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.
---
What a miserable idea!! Come on Breitbart, tie the msm into this corruption and kill that bill DEAD.
Posted by: clarice | September 20, 2009 at 06:20 PM
Clarice: I saw Tops over at the Green Room forum at HotAir, where the Breitbart hints were being discussed. She too is of the mind that AB is after the media (only one of her two themes).
I keep coming back to AB's "out of left field." It is like he might have been going after the letter A and then found the letter S (for scandal?).
Posted by: centralcal | September 20, 2009 at 06:24 PM
Because I have more football to watch - hence can't answer questions, ie probably won't be back ......
"exposong" - of the popular (populist/grassroots) genre, a type of song/lyrcis/music that is "sweet' to my ear/strikes a chord/has resonance.
OK. I Barry'd (lied). Typo :)
Posted by: MDr | September 20, 2009 at 06:26 PM
Clarice: Here is what Tops posted yesterday afternoon:
"Honestly people, I don’t think this has to do with Obama directly. I think Briebart’s sites are on the enablers in the media and/of the corruption of the Democrat party more specifically.
Think of it this way — that Obama got elected is not directly his doing.
The media all but ignored Obama other than glowing love pieces. Also, the media looks the other way at all levels of Democrat impropriety and illegal activity.( for example, Does anyone think if some dude who had Tang like docs on John Kerry was communicating with Karl Rove directly and then Rove was coordinating the info with Fox, the media in general would have made that a huge story if it leaked out???? - As it stood the yawned when Joe Lockhart said it was no big deal.
Sarah Palin hit the scene and suddenly the media needed to do their job and throughly upside down vet the hick chick Governor from being #2 while the dude wanting to #1 voted present his entire thin career.
Briebart’s op-ed was clea to mer. He’s going to expose the general wide-spread corruption of the Democrat party and their partnership with the media elite and this elite’s systemic cover-up of it."
Posted by: centralcal | September 20, 2009 at 06:30 PM
It appears to be his general plan but specifically what will the next video show?
It has to be the msm knowing about wrongdoing by Obama/Wicks/SEIU and refusing to publicize it.
Posted by: clarice | September 20, 2009 at 06:35 PM
Maybe, just maybe, because we are all into the "video taping" of ACORN, we are rather stuck on that medium?
I really don't know what AB stumbled onto out of left field (my words - stumbled onto - not his), but does it necessarily have to be a video tape?
Posted by: centralcal | September 20, 2009 at 06:43 PM
I think it does have to be taped to make it a bombshell..otherwise it's he said/he said.
Posted by: clarice | September 20, 2009 at 06:45 PM
"He’s going to expose the general wide-spread corruption of the Democrat party"
There is a lot to expose whether it's the Democrats in General or Obama in particular:
Here's an Obama bundler shown in the picture in LUN who allegedly made off with 80-90 million dollars of OPM. Some say he is overseas. Some say a lot of money came into the Obama campaign from unknown sources.
Anyone suspect that American authorities aren't really looking too hard for that 80-90 million dollars and the people who know about it?
Posted by: Pagar | September 20, 2009 at 06:48 PM
Good point, Clarice.
Posted by: centralcal | September 20, 2009 at 06:51 PM
Here comes the state owned media. Obama said to the Pittsburgh paper and Toledo Blade he is open to bail out bills for the mainstream press. This is disgusting.
The president is also getting ready to sell us out on Afghanistan. LUN.
Please Andrew, work faster. We have kill the MSM now before it becomes the ministry of propaganda.

I thought I Buffy she was involved in the Texas Caucuses as well. Here's a sample from a 2008 article (LUN) on the Texas Dem race:
Wicks, Obama's Texas deputy field director,
this week put out a call for even more,
telling Obama supporters in an e-mail that
"we have only a few days left to create the
same kind of organization in Texas that you
spent almost a year building in California"
and urges young voters in California to staff
phone banks for the candidate either in
Texas or back home in the Golden State.
There were many shenanigans in Texas caucuses, and Broomstick One and her staff were tres' displeased IIRC. Would it be too much to hope that some of the RW's staff has made contact with Breitbart with some dish on Buffy and her Texas cohorts domplete with hard evidence of voter fraud implicating SEIU and the ACORN gang?
I think that would have more impact than more NEA stuff, don't you?

Stewart was correct that Hannah and James looked like they were from High School Musical. Imagine what a more believeable pair would have uncovered. I still can't believe the dopes at ACORN bought the Chinchilla Wrap thing. Even Huggy Bear from Starsky and Hutch never wore that.

Go watch this "Uncommon Knowledge" segment with Andrew Breitbart. It's from the end of May 2009. In the video Breitbart talks about his upcoming projects. One of them is Big Government. The other one he talks about is Big Education.
I'm not sure if whatever he is breaking is unrelated to the ACORN goods. I think it is related. My guess is he's got the goods on the SEIU in Illinois.
The SEIU Local 880 is no longer. It is now SEIU Health Care Illinois-Indiana. It is a huge union that throws away money like it is flour. This union was a public-private partnership with ACORN. The books were all handled by Citizens Services Inc.

Could a "Food Lion" type inducement yield benefits? Also there was the pyrotechnic treatment of side-saddle gas tanks. Like in law enforcement, it is pretty tough to catch crime in the act unless you know when and where the act is likely to occur. That is what these sting operations do and there is a serious knock-on advantage. Everything Brietbart is going to break I guarantee is already in the can but the ACORNies, NEAcs and the other hucksters slavering at the thought of Free Munny now have to think twice whenever a party or opportunity comes a-knocking.

Posted by: bishop | September 20, 2009 at 08:21 PM
Guys, I really wouldn't worry so much about Cardin's stupid-ass bill. Converting newspapers to not-for-profits is a hell of a feat for starters. I'm not aware of it ever being done on a widespread basis, and can't think of a single large (or even small) public company that has ever converted to 501(c)(3) status. You have to take out the public shareholders, first of all, which isn't so easy to do. The legal thickets of something like this are massive.
Suppose, for example, Rupert Murdoch would rather buy the Daily News than watch it convert to a tax-advantaged status in his market. Is a federal judge going to allow the only viable buyer for the public shareholders to walk so the "greater public good" can be served? And certainly, if there is room for Murdoch to buy names and operating assets, there is room for others--at least as it relates to the stronger papers and better markets. It may come as a surprise to Ben Cardin, but Gannett, Hearst and Lee Enterprises are actually in business...wait for it...to make money. That they can't do so currently does not mean they are eager to convert to the NPR model of news.
Second, the core newspaper business is imploding. The Sun-Slimes, here in Chicago, lost $50 million in the first six months of the year on sales of $130 million. Its ad revenues were down like 40 percent, year-over-year. Many papers are not viable businesses regardless of their tax status. They spend too much and take in too little. Paying their taxes is not the problem.
So, I know, the next idea is that George Soros or some other liberal sugardaddy will fund all these stinkers until the end of time, churning out leftwing propaganda on every streetcorner. Perhaps for the New York Slimes would merit this sort of largesse, but is the Aurora Beacon-News going to get it? What about the Sacramento Bee, the Oregonian, etc.? There are still over 1,000 newspapers operating in the U.S. Most of them are barely covering their cash flow and virtually all of them are at 20-year lows in terms of staff headcount. The idea that they will come roaring back as non-profits is fanciful.
Furthemore, the AP is the essence of the liberal leukemia that flows through the newspapers in this country. It cannot exist without assessing its member papers (all of which collectively own it) a fee. A not-for-profit wire service would be even more challenging, given that AP already suffers from rate pushback. The continuing disappearance of small and mid-sized papers will make AP's enterprise even harder to justify.
You all already know what the public outrage to this kind of largesse would be. But also keep in mind the other reason why this won't happen: Propaganda is dull.

OT: Did you guys see this at Don Surber's? It's an email he received, complete with a pix.
Dear President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature.
It is now official: You are morons.
The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775 - you have had 234 years to get it right; it is broke.
Social Security was established in 1935 - you have had 74 years to get it right; it is broke.
Fannie Mae was established in 1938 - you have had 71 years to get it right; it is broke.
War on Poverty started in 1964 - you have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the poor”; it hasn’t worked.
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 - you’ve had 44 years to get it right; they’re broke
Freddie Mac was established in 1970 - you have had 39 years to get it right; it is broke
So with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that “services” you shove down our throats are failing faster and faster, you want Americans to believe you can be trusted with a government-run health care system?
15% of our economy? Are you crazy?
Truly, the inmates are running the asylum! (Maybe we need to let others in on this brilliant record before 2010 and just vote against incumbents.)
So once again… it’s official.
You are ALL morons regardless of your political leanings.

What I want to see Breitbart exposing are all the incestuous, and illegal, relationships between proliferating quasi-governmental "service organizations," as well as actual agencies, and White House political engineering. Obama's claim that running a national campaign was a bona fide credential for the Presidency seems prophetic. He & Axelrod seem to regard the entire federal government as Team Obama writ large.
You'd have to be preternaturally creative to get that on video, but Breitbart doesn't strike me as the one trick pony type when it comes to packaging.

Biggovernment.com reports that a White House website encouraging volunteerism filters applicants to ACORN http://biggovernment.com/2009/09/18/taxpayer-funded-serve-gov-filtering-activists-to-acorn/>First shoe dropping?<.a>

How do you link a Jpeg like that, in the LUN, a picture the nutroots went well nuts over, last Memorial Day

It's the NEA. Breitbart has a new article up on biggovernment.com. The last bit:
"At the very least, filmmaker James O’Keefe and actress Hannah Giles deserve a Pulitzer Prize for their expose of deep corruption and unspeakable immorality at the ACORN housing division. But more important, I won’t rest until they receive a grant to continue their partisan artistry from the National Endowment for the Arts.
That’s this week’s mission."

actually Mme. Sarko is a left winger.
BTW Obama is expected to announce a drastic reduction in the U.S. nuclear arsenal as the centerpiece of his address to the UN next month. So there goes the whole MAD theory....the man is Carter cubed.

Clarice - Also, Big Hollywood has a "pre-game" report up on the announcement.

Converting newspapers to not-for-profits is a hell of a feat for starters... You have to take out the public shareholders, first of all, which isn't so easy to do. The legal thickets of something like this are massive.
Talk to the GM and Chrysler bondholders about that.

The Big Hollywood report (thanks flodigarry) confirms that the NEA is the target.
Interesting.

The Big Hollywood story confirms it is about the NEA, the artists being bought with NEA funds in a program coordinated by Buffy to promote Obamacare..It's a good set up for the goal.

I maybe terribly naive, but is this legal, not to mention ethical?

Jim Treacher has made the Boob Czar FAMOUS!
CC, Hope you had a wonderful day. And thanks!
JMH,
Poor Nancy, indeed. I can never get past her pea size brain, her botox, her clacking teeth and her vast collection of gigantic pearls to get any further than her aged neck.
Once in awhile, I notice her bosoms could use a belt out of Michelle's closet.
(Somedays, I think I should replace the dear deceased Richard Blackwell of the “Worst Dressed“ list fame. lol)

Where's Caro?
I think there's money in signs and stickers and T-shirts saying,
"We're all community organizers now!"

bishop: I only know how to grab a photo, and link to a reduced version at photobucket, but here's a preview:
And here's your original.

OT: The insane killer who escaped (for a second time) while on a field trip from the insane asylum in Washington State was recaptured.
How crazy are the authorities there--you decide:
"Knezovich expressed dismay that Paul aroused no suspicion when he left the mental institution with a backpack loaded with clothing, food, an electric guitar and $50 from a Social Security check."It appears that Mr. Paul had planned this for quite some time," he said.
The field trip to the fair, which included 30 other patients, is an annual event that Paul easily could have anticipated, Reagan said.
Jim Stevenson, a spokesman for the state Department of Social and Health Services, said Paul received an injection designed to maintain his mental stability for about two weeks on Wednesday. Only at the end of that period would he have needed another dose to avoid the potential for a serious deterioration of his mental condition, Stevenson said.
"
Maybe we ought to consider another word for carp--something like Snohomish.

clarice: This woman's heart is definitely in the right place, but I'd love to see the caro version.
Personally, I'd have gone with "Organize This!"
