The president could have stopped the whole birther controversy by releasing his birth certificate. He has chosen not to, so the questions continue. If he has nothing to hide, why is he hiding it?

I'm not a birther, but it seems to me he could have closed the issue long ago. That he has not only raises suspicions.

Fresh Air

I'm going to ignore the horns and the "666" on his scalp just to please you, Tom.

Dave (in MA)

For accuracy I think they should have asked a similarly-sized group if they think he is a big fat poopyhead.

bgates

I don't think the critic is insane for believing that a person could really, really have a dog for a mother.

That would explain the lack of birth certificate.

As could the Anti-Christ angle....

Has he spake truth once?

Show me the BC, you liar.

OT, Reuters just posted a story about the new hot spot for the young and wealthy. The most popular spot for 25-34 year olds making 6 figures is DC.

Second place? Arlington County.

"Sixteen of the top 50 counties in the United States with the highest share of wealthy young people are in the Washington, D.C. area."

Reuters credits the climate.

ABC News' Charlie Gibson doesn't have time to cover the ACORN controversy in his 22 minutes, but he does find time to cover the racism at the 9/12 rally he couldn't find time to cover without the racism angle.

Charlie (Colorado)

Has anyone asked Charlie Gibson if he's heard of ACORN yet?

clarice

bgates, it is TRUE--we are the Brussels of the USA. We take your money out of your pockets and live well here..every top chef in America has opened a restaurant here and they are all packed every evening.

We are now the govt AND financial center of America.

Original MikeS

I'm thinking that respondents may not have believed that these were serious questions. Particularly if the first question was, "Do you think Barack is the anti-Christ."

After 8 years of demonizing, even Republicans know Bush is the anti-Christ.

Any way. I seriously don't think people take these polls seriously.

PeterUK

If Obama is the Anti-Christ,what is the antidote?

Fresh Air

Has anyone asked Charlie Gibson if he's heard of ACORN yet?

I think that's a question for the cables to handle.

ROA

Clarice, don't forget manufacturing since the feds run GM & Chrysler.

clarice

Of course..ROA..We are the spot for manufacturing, too.

Fresh Air

OT--

Looks like we're finally going to get a look inside the Fed. Wonder what kind of stuff Uncle Ben's been hiding from us?

Extraneus

I just heard Gibson reading something about ACORN's cessation of new intakes on the radio not 15 minutes ago, so he may have been briefed.

Old Lurker

Hey, don't forget all those drugs and medical innovations coming out of NIH in Bethesda, and all the Communication, Computer, Internet and research in Northern Virginia. Come to think of it, what aspect of life does NOT depend on DC...except for the money makin part?

Janet

At the 9-12 rally one of my signs had the Taco Bell dog saying YO QUIERO small government, less taxes, strong defense,...

anyway, a guy walked by me and said "Yo quiero his birth certificate."

Janet

No one walked by and said..."Dios mio, Senior Obama es un diablo!"

hit and run

Tapper tweeted that ABC would be covering ACORN on World News Tonight.

Could anyone have misheard the question simply as Do you think Obama is anti-Christ (without the article "the").

I would have punched 1 for yes on that one.

Captain Hate

Has anyone asked Charlie Gibson if he's heard of ACORN yet?

Has anybody asked Charlie if he's heard how Diane Skeezer slandered Food Lion?

Extraneus

The beauty of this ACORN thing is that most people hadn't ever even heard of "community organizers" until it was touted as a key part of Obama's resume. Heh.

Ralph L

Sane people hang up on robo-calls. That explains the numbers, even in New Jersey.

Carl Pham

Reminds me of that story that some rather substantial percentage of Englishmen listed "Jedi" as their religion on some national survey or other.

Me, I'm going with "finding their inner Borat." I make it a practise to lie outrageously on telephone surveys, just to keep the dust flying and delay the day when polling replaces voting.

No one you know

The anti-christ I could respect, you know with the whole warping reality around him and whatnot. Obama's just a two-bit hustler from Chicago.

Rocco

Then how do you explain THIS, Hmmm?

Janet

((After 8 years of demonizing, even Republicans know Bush is the anti-Christ.))

Too funny Original MikeS

Gregory Koster

Blankblank Typepad ate comment. Take two:

Mark me down as one who thinks a lot of the pollees were having fun with the pollsters.

Clarice's observation about DC now being the American equivalent of Brussels is bang right. But remember, the European peasantry got even by naming the odious vegetable that truly few people like the Brussels sprout. What odious vegetable can we rename the Washington sprout in honor of our new Capital of Corruption? I nominate the beet. The red color suits The Once, and it can be made in borscht, his favorite soup.

Why should The Once release his original birth certificate? Doing so wouldn't win over any real number of people, and by suppressing it, he keeps the issue in play for such vermin as Paul Krugman, winner of the Nobel prize for spitting in Geo. W's eye. I'd much rather see: a) college and law school transcripts b) medical records beyond the postcard that said having wonderful time, glad you're not here c) state Senate records d) Annenberg Challenge records e) the likely handwritten drafts of DREAMS FROM MY FATHER.

When heaven boils over.

Sincerely yours,
Gregory Koster

Good point, Rocco.

The beauty of this ACORN thing is that most people hadn't ever even heard of "community organizers" until it was touted as a key part of Obama's resume.

Sarah Palin strikes again. Repubs should be thinking her up and down the line.

Neo

I take one look at the "racist" charges and how they really help bring the healthcare debate into clear view and I'm left thinking ...

How about those Mets ?

Rick Ballard

"e) the likely handwritten drafts of DREAMS FROM MY FATHER."

You can read Ayers manuscript in Cyrillic? I'm impressed.

centralcal

A tiny bit off topic, but I know it will bring a smile to your faces. Over at HuffPo, Reese Schonfeld, the godfather of CNN says:

President Obama is suffering from over-exposure and under-performance. It's about time he stopped talking and started doing. Otherwise, CNN will have no ratings at all.
Porchlight

Sarah Palin strikes again. Repubs should be thinking her up and down the line.

You betcha. If there is any justice, people will know much more about community organizers by the time O'Keefe, Giles, Breitbart and company are done.

By the way I just love how they're doing this. Not only the drip, drip, drip of the video releases, but the way they start at the bottom tier of the organization, with the offices at street level, then move up the chain (or into the web). I would imagine next up is "So who funds ACORN exactly?" and then "which organizations are connected to ACORN?" and so on and so forth, until we get to the Community-Organizer-in-Chief.

Here are some MSM Greatest Hits of Racism from the Meme Spreaders, courtesy of Rush:
.................

CAMPBELL BROWN: (music) ...vicious, racist imagery attacking our first African-American president.

LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: (newsroom noise) Gentleman Joe Wilson has done much to make the racist history of South Carolina jump back into our present consciousness.

CANDY CROWLEY: (b-roll) Critics think this is about resistance to a black man as president.

JAMES CARVILLE: People are upset with President Obama because of the color of his skin. Who cannot believe that?

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Could there be a refusal to accept the legitimacy of Barack Obama as president because of his race?

WOLF BLITZER: A small but disturbing minority within the tea party movement is also blatantly anti-black.

JOHN RIDLEY: When you talk about racial image, this is not just standard debate.

ELAINE QUIJANO: (b-roll) A small but passionate minority is also voicing what some see as racist rhetoric.

JOHN AVLON: Hitler. Communism. Racism. All this ugliness is bubbling up.

ANDERSON COOPER: There is an undercurrent of racism in some of the criticism of the president.

JUAN WILLIAMS: An attack on somebody because you really don't like the fact that they are president or because of their race.

ROSS DOUTHAT: Clearly Barack Obama's race plays some role in the kind of anxieties that are roiling the political right.

CLARENCE PAGE: (outdoor noise) People are not just mad at Obama. They are mad at Jesse Jackson. They are mad at Reverend Wright. They are mad at Al Sharpton. They are mad at people who have nothing to do with Obama except they all happen to be black.

centralcal

Porch: Hannity says tonight it will be the San Diego ACORN office. Also Ace (I think) claims it will be completely different - no pimp/prostitute ruse this time.

Jim Miller

FWIW, Knute Berger, who was the editor of a local alternative newspaper, the Seattle Weekly, twice published pieces passing on the idea that George W. Bush was the Antichrist. Once Berger, who has no religious beliefs, actually passed on that claim -- from a local Methodist minister.

Few in this area, as far as I could tell, objected to Berger's behavior.

On these poll results: It is always well to remember that half of the people have IQs below 100 -- which helps explain why 5 percent will agree to almost anything, in any poll.

Extraneus

We can only hope they had some money left for Greyhound bus tickets to Chicago for the pièce de résistance.

Captain Hate

Over at HuffPo, Reese Schonfeld, the godfather of CNN says:

Only a couple months after that stunning realization traversed through the blow-impaired synapses of idiot Bill Maher. Of course he could've asked anybody here (well, almost anybody..) a year ago we'd be getting the Rupert Pupkin president; or Rupaul Ofluffkin.

Original MikeS

CLARENCE PAGE: (outdoor noise) People are not just mad at Obama. They are mad at Jesse Jackson. They are mad at Reverend Wright. They are mad at Al Sharpton. They are mad at...
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Brian Williams, Perky Couric, Charly Gibson, in fact the pretense that they don't like the wonderful new policies of his onederfulness Borak Obama is laughable.

Jim Ryan

I think half of those who say O is Satan or Bush knew are taking the opportunity of the phone call from a pollster to emote, let off some steam.

Captain Hate

Where were all the brave MSM troof-to-pauer voices when the left was throwing filth at the likes of Michael Steele (and I get no personal satisfaction out of defending him), Condeleeza Rice, Clarence Thomas and Colin Powell (ibid). Believe me it was a *lot* more malignant than "You lie".

Neo

While on the subject of the paranoid ...

Just because the Soviet Union is gone doesn’t mean that the US government isn’t paranoid about Communist spying and espionage. Ask frequent business travelers who have flown to China recently such as IT executives, who are being advised by United States government officials to keep separate electronic equipment specifically for use in China.

Read the whole thing. It gets weird.

Janet

Off topic - as usual

anyway, a funny comment by a ThNast @ Powerline - a new masthead for the NYT
"All the news that's left, we print"

I don't know why I announce Off topic. I need to announce when I am on topic, because that is a rarer occurrence.

jean

If the people in the poll are under 30,I bet they like messing with the poll and answer anything that screws the results.

Charlie (Colorado)

Tapper tweeted that ABC would be covering ACORN on World News Tonight.

Maybe so, but they sure didn't tease it in the opening.

Charlie (Colorado)

Neo, it's not paranoid if they really are out to get you.

Frau Duden

Dave(MA) - "a big fat poopyhead" works for me.

Hi, Janet! Hi, Jean!

With the House's "Word Nazi", Louise Slaughter, and her list of acceptable and unacceptable words, will the Representatives dare to say prevaricator, mouthpiece, Saboteur-in-Chief, nimrod, Soros's sock puppet, Chicago thug, and, of course, poopyhead?

Pops

I am confused. Maureen Dowd, says she heard the word "BOY" when the Congressmen shouted "YOU LIE". Now did this mean Dowd is a racist because that is the next word that comes into her brain?

Or is she just mis-remembering when it was actually Jimmie Carter that called Obama a BOY over one year ago.

So is she saying Carter is the racist?

And why does she sit on an editorial board with one token black in a city that is 70% black.

This article pretty much destroyed Dowds and the NYT OP-Ed page ridiculous racism canard:

matt

we could always just say it in French or German....

bishop

You know if they wanted to win some credibility to disabuse us of some of our suspicions, they ought to stop doing stuff like this, in the LUN. Because it raises the question, would an enemy of the United
States do anything differently

Janet

Hey Frau - yeah, and we don't want to forget that ever popular American slang word maccaca.

Pagar

Bishop, the answer is NO.

Jane

That's great Pops!

PD

every top chef in America has opened a restaurant here and they are all packed every evening.

Every top chef save one

... or perchance you're recently opened your own?

Rob Crawford

What odious vegetable can we rename the Washington sprout in honor of our new Capital of Corruption?

Skunk cabbage. Corpse flower. Just so long as it's inedible and smells.

Frau Duden

"...we could always just say it in French or German."
Well, matt, how about the golden oldie "arse with ears"? It seems to fit.

Frau Duden

Janet, that is a Virginia special.

clarice

PD,not hardly, but thanks.

Neo

The sad truth, that seems to be present starting with Rev. Wright's Trinity Church through to Rep. Waters, is that the Black Community seems to have the biggest problem with race. Most of the remainder of the nation has "moved on" but the Black Community, on a per cap basis, has the largest population that keeps racial hatred alive. Worst of all, it seem to be a racial paranoia, rather than being based in any ongoing repression.

syn

Fascinating; the majority of Catholics voted for abortion yet they do not see that they are the anti-Christ.

Seriously Catholics have been aborting the body of Christ since Ted Kennedy was elected into office.

syn

BUT Catholics do have pretty rituals, ornate facades and all that shiny golden crap
