Troubling video of NJ schoolkids being taught a hymn to Obama. Whatever possessed them? I know we are all just grateful that they weren't praying, since that might have made some of the students uncomfortable.
Michelle Malkin provides lots of background; Burlington Township sounds like a nice enough town.
Well. My free advice to aspiring songsters would be to try for something a bit more tasteful and restrained - I am sure our Dear Leader wold enjoy a remix along the lines of "Abraham, Martin and Barack". Without the assassination angle, of course.
UPON FURTHER REFLECTION: A proper paean to Obama would acknowledge his inspirational leadership through both economic distress and war, but it also needs to show that he is more than just an American, he is a man of the world. Let's chuck Lincoln and Kennedy and go with "FDR, Gandhi, and Barack". Or, since that doesn't scan so well, maybe "FDR, Gandhi, and BO".
Just brainstorming here.
I saw that wretched thing but had no idea where it was made and under what circumstances.
The wiki account of the town indicates it's 2/3 white. The racial component of that class seemed quite different. I raise this because I think even in this neighborhood of uber libs the upper class white parents who are predominant would not like this kind of thing but more recent immigrants might think this normal and poor black parents might think it great.

May be not that nice of a township. Here is a story about the county.

This is not a surprise. It's standard practice in all authoritarian regimes. The people that thought this up probably didn't think anything of it, and there will be those on leftwing sites that will defend it and call any objections "paranoia".
Of course, if we had children exalting GWB, these same people would be equally supportive, no doubt.
Posted by: ben | September 24, 2009 at 12:02 PM
Of course, if we had children exalting GWB, these same people would be equally supportive, no doubt.
Many lefties claim that happened, of course. As I understood it, they took a video of some kids praying FOR President Bush, with the relatively unusual (in my experience) addition of a cardboard stand-in for him, and claim the kids were praying TO President Bush.
I wonder about the lefties who claim there was a cult around President Bush and NOT one around Obama -- are they confused by expressions like "thank goodness it wasn't Gore", are they blind to cases like this video, or are they simply dishonest?
Posted by: Rob Crawford | September 24, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Simply dishonest.
Posted by: ben | September 24, 2009 at 12:19 PM
An obvious forgery: I didn't see a single barrel of absinthe in the background, Believe me, the kids would be crowding around it afterwards. Or maybe they went directly for the hard stuff and crowded around the shellac can...
You wonder at the witlessness involved on the school's part. They really thought that no one would find out about this? Or just didn't care?

One of the aspects of the song that is so sickening is that one verse is based on an old Sunday school song - "Jesus Loves the Little Children"
"red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world."
They inserted Obama.

Posted by: Rob Crawford | September 24, 2009 at 12:24 PM
This just in:
At a hurriedly called press conference in Pittsburgh, where the President is attending the G-20 meeting, Robert Gibbs, press secretary to President Obama had this to say about the viral video of school children in Burlington Township, NJ singing the praises of Barack Hussein Obama.
"This all part of the silly season that started with the right wing, domestic terrorist racist mob thinking the President's speech to school children were some kind of indoctrination to the Obama principles of radicalism and Chicago style thugism. We believe this is another attempt by those who would say "No" instead of "Hell yes, we love hope and change" to paint this administration in the most extreme ways possible. We reject this assault on the common sense and destiny of our American republic and those who deserve what we have brought forth." (AP)

Think 2012 (or 2010):
Who shall rule this American nation?
Say, boys, say!
Who shall sit in the loftiest station?
Say, boys, say!
Shall the man who trampled on the banner?
They who now their country would betray?
They who murder the innocent freed men?
Say, boys, say!
Chorus:
No never! no, never!
The loyal millions say;
And 'tis they who rule this American nation,
They, boys, they!
Who shall rank as the family royal?
Say, boys, say!
If not those who are honest and loyal?
Say, boys, say!
Then shall one elected as our servant
In his pride, assume a regal way?
Must we bend to the human dictator?
Say, boys, say!
Chorus:
No never! no, never!
The loyal millions say;
And 'tis they who rule this American nation,
They, boys, they!
Shall we tarnish our national glory?
Say, boys, say!
Blot one line from the wonderful story?
Say, boys, say!
Did we vainly shed our blood in battle?
Did our troops resultless win the day?
Was our time and our treasure all squander'd?
Say, boys, say!
Chorus:
No never! no, never!
The loyal millions say;
And 'tis they who rule this American nation,
They, boys, they!
Cheers me up every time.

JOM FAMILY UPDATE:
Just a quick note: Bad was checked into the hospital Tuesday after having severe headaches and very high blood pressure. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We don't have much more the way of details at this point.
A friend here has sent her flowers on behalf of all of us at JOM to tell her we love her.
You can certainly email me -- jomhitandrun @ gmail . com -- and I'll share whatever I know or get in the way of updates.

Prayers for Bad are underway. Had this same scary situation two years ago. Left work with a severe headache and got home with full blown Bell's Palsy. It took a trip to the ER to determine the paralysis was BP and not a stroke, but it was a scary time. And the BP relented after about three weeks (and some HBP medication).
Here's praying that her situation will be produce a good outcome.

Mark Steyn was terrific today. As a political satirist he is on par with P. J. O'Rourke, in my opinion, but is even funnier as a speaker. He has an easy job when you think about it, muck like Mort Sahl did. He just lets the news, especially the actions of the greens, dems, liberals, MSM, dictate his schtick for the day. He doesn't even need much imagination or embellishment to add on - just read what they say. Its a ton of laughs.
But his monologue today on the WaPo reporting the new environmental threat to the world being perpetrated by the USA was our over-use of 2 ply toilet paper was a thing of sheer brilliance and invitational sarcasm.
