Obama will sweep five talk shows on Sunday. I see three problems:
Enough, Already! - I am not talking about Chris Matthews, but somewhere this must be an Obama supporter susceptible to Obama fatigue. We'll find 'em soon!
Sure, He Can Talk... - We all know Obama can talk, but does he actually possess any other relevant executive skills? This Sunday filibuster plays into the emerging meme that Obama has become the living, breathing embodiment of "Talk Is Cheap".
What About The Bored But Preening Pressies? : If Obama were doing just one show the designated interviewer would swoon, then prep for a Serious Interview. But no reporter wants to be the one to ask Obama to go through his talking points on Baucus and Snowe for the fourth time that day - each will be feeling the pressure to ask The Question that drives the Monday morning news cycle.
Which means that as the day progresses and substance has been done, each reporter will go for their Hail Mary questions about Kanye West or any other darn thing that might generate buzz. And since Obama steppe don his own health care message last summer by diving into the Skip Gates controversy, one has to wonder whether he will be that undisciplined again. I should admit that I have a bit of empathy for the guy - he really hates ducking questions, since he knows all answers to everything and really just wants to share his wisdom with lesser mortals; as a crazed blogger, I know the feeling.
Reporters will prep their steaming cow pies; let's see where Obama steps.
Peee ewwww - I am holding my nose already. Cow pies are so stinky.

If Obama can rev up the base, he might be able to get ObamaCare jammed through Congress.
Obama's recent campaign initiatives, along with the Decaying Establishment's shameful playing of the race deck, is most likely intended less to intimidate opponents than to rev up supporters who have lost some faith in Obama.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | September 16, 2009 at 02:30 PM
the problem is that he's just going to say the same old sh*t at every stop....and it's nothing new..."Pass my plan because there is a fierce sense of urgency"....
what plan, Mr. Obama? Which of the 31 flavors do you want? please tell us....we know we're racists and all, but since you've managed to dodge anything concrete whatsoever, we are nervous about giving you any endorsements until we know exactly what is up your sleeve at this point.
"Mr. Obama, we're sorry. Johnny couldn't get you on the show tonight because he decided on the trained wolverine instead. Maybe you could come back on another time, but here, here's an autographed photo of Doc Severenson"
Mr. Obama, your 15 minutes of fame are definitely up.....

Ah, a chance to rescue this gem from an older thread:
I don't think there are five Sunday talk shows. Maybe he can join Olberman in making me not watch the Sunday night game on NBC.
"Well Keith, it's...injuries like that suffered by, uh, Troy Palomalu [off camera sound of David Brooks ejaculating at sound of Obama's pronunciation of dreamy Pacific Islander name] that make the case...for health care reform. Now, nobody has ever suggested that the government pay for physical rehab for NFL All-Stars. Anybody who says different is clearly a liar, wish there was...a nicer way to say that, but there isn't, the fact is there are a bunch of traitorous racist lying unAmerican drunks who enjoy, and in many cases...uh...get what lit-tle sex-u-al satisfaction they are capable of getting, from seeing poor people suffer, and they want to eliminate the practice of medicine in this country."
Keith: "So there's no basis for this ludicrous, outrageous, quite frankly evil claim that you're somehow nationalizing health care for the NFL."
O: "Exactly. That language is going to be removed from the bill tomorrow. But it's important that we stay on the high road...."

NYT: "For the first time ever, a president is appearing on five talk shows on a single Sunday, in quick succession — on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Univision. (To be clear: He is taping them Friday night at the White House, not sprinting from set to set on Sunday.)"
So who will be doing the taping and editing?
Posted by: DebinNC | September 16, 2009 at 02:54 PM
Why doesn't Obama get all those folks together and finally write an actual bill instead of the amorphous POS that seems to always make everybody (except strangely Obama) a liar when talking about it.
He said his one great skill was getting folks together in a room to hammer out a consensus. Even that story is starting to look like an outright prevarication.

Mr. President, you have repeatedly criticized Republicans for opposing your health care plan. Do you agree with your pastor Rev. Wright that the right wing oppose the plan because it would help poor people?

HL Mencken on Warren Gamaliel Harding in 1921:
"The mind ineveitably cherishes a yearning for a President who would be less esoteric and hence more entertaining. ...Mere snickering at the snarls and whorls of Gamalieliese will soon pall; it will presently irritate, and then it will bore. ...But all Gamlaliel promises is a few more laughs, and then an illimitble tedium."
Truly there is is nothing new under the sun.
Have a fine time with The Once, Mr. Brooks.

That's actually a real astute point. each reporter will be going for news making question -- and it won't be something about the virtues of the public option. It will likely be something about the decline and fall of civility, or how do you respond to guerilla news reporting on ACORN, or do you think Wilson (or any other politician) is a racist?

The President is, technically, an excellent speaker. He has a pleasant voice, and understands phrasing and tempo. But he is devoid of passion, which I think, stems from an absence of original ideas and strong belief. In other words, he's a mouthpiece.
These are good skills for an executive, but executives also require a solid understanding of their objectives and at least a beginner's understanding of the projects and policies that he's proposing.
Said bluntly, Obama is full of shit, but he sounds good. He's too damn lazy or cynical to master (or even vaguely understand) the basics of health care (Big Tonsil anyone), and anyone wonders why he can't sell his cow pie?
Posted by: Old Dad | September 16, 2009 at 03:49 PM
"The President is, technically, an excellent speaker. He has a pleasant voice, and understands phrasing and tempo."
Actually, Pops (sorry...that's what my kids changed to after they got tired of calling me Old Dad), I don't even think that is true any more. When speaking off the cuff, he uses too many "uhs" and makes grammatical goofs that would offend my eitgh grade teacher, and often makes no sense at all. As to tempo, cadance and delivery, his voice drives me NUTS now. I rush to change stations.
I am in serious re-entry depression and coming home to that broken record makes me want to return to the beach and put my head back in the sand!
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 16, 2009 at 04:04 PM
Don't you love it when a poster is critical about grammar and then has typos in his own post!
Posted by: Old Lurker | September 16, 2009 at 04:05 PM
Old Dad,
Could not agree more. In fact, I have often thought he could save some money by getting rid of Gibbs and showing up each afternoon to do the press briefings himself.
He performs more like a spokesperson than he does an executive. Executives, like children, should be seen but not heard. Seen working - you know like strategizing and planning and organizing your political positions into effective legislation that YOU introduce and ask Congress to approve. Something original you know.

Given that these are pre-taped I think Obama's refusal to go on Fox is an admission that they have no arguments to make. His excuse that there is no purpose going on Fox because the people who watch it have already made up their minds is a total repudiation of his "post-partisan - I can get people who dissagree into a room to reach an agreement" argument he ran on. They are clearly afraid that he would be asked tough quesitons that he simply can't answer by Fox. A damning statement on the quality of the rest of the press and on Obama's ability to actually do the job of president.

Had a thought this afternoon on the healthcare front. But, are we in the middle of getting in the middle of a system in the process of fixing itself? When things get too expensive(insurance) an alternative generally arises. All things seek a level. If we could just get the damn govt OUT OF THE MIDDLE of it, it could heal.

What about Rahm? Seems to me that he ought to be included. Just glancing through the list of prominent democrats... I don't know. Is it just me or does this list seem to lack diversity? Lemme see democrats, community organizers, big shots from Obama's campaign and SEIU Godfather Don Andy Stern. ...to be conducted by the group’s Independent Advisory Council.
I'm just wondering if this is the same Advisory Council that was doing the advising previously?
I'm curious because it seems that the previous advice was inadequate. I suspect that the first thing the Council will do is to order some buses with extra ground clearance, so they can start shoveling people under them.
On the videos, I saw one lady who was giving illegal advice to a supposed pimp and prostitute. It was illegal advice not bad advice. That lady could slap together a criminal enterprise quicker than you can say Tony Rezko. She was not hurting for brain power. Her failings were the result of a lack of Acorn leadership and guidance rather than a lack of intellect on her part.

A fine, balanced, non-partisan Council, one you would expect to really do some house cleaning and to let the chips for where they may.
Starting with Cisneros, lately of Countrywide and formerly of:
"In December 1997, Cisneros was indicted on 18 counts of conspiracy, giving false statements and obstruction of Justice. Medlar used some of the Cisneros hush money to purchase a house and entered into a bank fraud scheme with her sister and brother-in-law to conceal the source of the money.
