Marighela was the Brazilian guerilla warfare theorist, that Ayers adopted as his model, like Guevara and Sendic the leader of the Tupamaros, they all ended up dead, but that's beside the point.
Holy smokes. Folks, follow Narciso's link. He's right: Scoffazza has dropped out of the race.
The story quotes a recent poll with Owens 36, Hoffman 35, Scoffazza 20. Also note that she says money was an issue, which strongly suggests the RNCC stopped adding money.
I know it's a big tent, but honestly, how does a Republican get the sort of associations she had?
Now I know there are places where moderate Republicans govern by alternately siding with the Democrats or the conservative Republicans, but what really was her schtick?
=================================
Like for example, what the hell was Hank Greenberg doing visiting Jim Jones? Or for that matter Steve Ballmer visiting John Holdren. These are the pieces you need to make fit.
Like the Bush administration before it, Obama is arguing that any release is voluntary, not required by law, despite two federal court rulings to the contrary.
Well ... isn't the main knock against her that she's so liberal and likely to vote with the Democratics much or most of the time? Is a person who finds that attractive enough to vote for her now more likely to go left and vote for Owens or go right for Hoffman?
I don't see this as a clear boost for Hoffman yet.
Actually, I think it's the RNCC which was sending her money--and I expect it dried up when supporters stormed their HQ and started throttling them. These are the same numbnuts who gave pots of dough to Chris Shays without even requiring him to promise to support the President's judicial nominees.
PD, @ Noon, yeah, that's why I wondered. But, if you take a look at those curves, it looks that more of Scozza'a supporters went to Hoffman than to Owens. Liberals already had chosen Owens over Scozz.
I'm floundering without any real knowledge, trying to keep my hopes from overcoming expectations.

Doesn't the RNC need to endorse someone in the race? In fact, wouldn't they want to offer the R nomination to Hoffman if it's not too late to change the voting machines?
what is interesting is the lists they have not released. Add that to his birth certificate, his transcripts/grades, his list of contributors both on line and off in 2008, and his promise of greater transparency, and what do you have?
I'm not sure you can do that. First of all, paper ballots are printed months or weeks in advance. Second, I'm not sure the nominee can be changed that close the election. Even though the New Jersey Democrats did it (illegally) with Lautenberg a few years ago when Torricelli was about to lose.
I don't think it matters much. All the (C)s will be voting, and probably a big chunk of the (R)s. Hear us roar! or something.
Ok, so he keeps the C if he wins. Great. I wonder if any more will join him in 2010. It's hard to believe the NRCC could really have internalized the lesson yet, especially at the NY outpost.

I bought some a while ago from King Arthur Flour and never found a use for it until the new book ..I also tried using ascorbic acid in a bread the other day as KAF recommended it for good rise--that loaf came out way too squishy--It may be of use in more usual breadmaking and as a preservative, but unless a recipe calls for it, I won't use it again.

Excerpts:
On Friday, the Justice Department released reams of newly declassified documents on the CIA interrogation program. Among the documents is a revised, October 2009 version of the Justice Department Inspector General’s report on the FBI’s involvement in detainee interrogations.
This report proves, once and for all, that FBI interrogator Ali Soufan lied about his role in the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah.
.....
In other words, Soufan’s claims that a) he got the information on Jose Padilla, and b) he did so before enhanced interrogation techniques were applied, are both lies.
As for the techniques the CIA used to get the information, Soufan’s partner, Agent Gibson, told the IG that he “did not have a ‘moral objection’ to being present for the CIA techniques because the CIA was acting professionally and Gibson himself had undergone comparable harsh interrogation techniques as part of U.S. Army Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training.”
While working on my forthcoming book on the CIA interrogation program, I made repeated requests to Soufan for an interview to explain these discrepancies. He refused. Now we know why.
There were a lot of people involved with NY-23. But there were two people most heavily invested in terms of political capital. Newt and Palin, and they were on opposite sides of the race.
Everyone else who invested in the race didn't necessarily have to put that much on the line. Even strong support by, say, Fred Thompson was relatively cost free in terms of political capital. Club for Growth? None. Etc. (the exception is the NRCC and Pete Sessions, but as an elected official, he has his own separate concerns with losing political capital over the race).
Palin wins and Newt loses. But Newt loses only insomuch as he seeks to be a conservative leader and/or a 2012 candidate. I don't know if he wants the latter or not. I know he wants the former.
It was said quite often after she stepped down as Alaska Gov, that Sarah Palin could become a "king maker" in congressional elections. But I don't think anyone had in mind this type of success and in 2009. This early win (man am I counting my chickens before they hatch, or what!) increases her profile and her potential power in 2010.
Coming back to political captial, though. Newt was the big loser among those who invested directly in the race.
But perhaps the even bigger losers are the non-investors. Specifically, Mitt and Huck*. By staying on the sidelines, they had calculated that Scozzafava would out perform Hoffman. They were playing the "we would have liked to endorse Hoffman, he's closer to our principles, but Scozzafava was the more likely to win candidate".
Big, big miscalculation.
There are those people who choose to lead. There are those people who choose to follow. And then there are those people who are forced to follow because of others who choose to lead.
Palin led.
-----------
*I feel bad for Pawlenty. He's supposed to be a 2012 potential, but even though I've been following this story closely, and remember generally that he said something regarding NY-23, I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. Nor can I muster the energy to go look it up. But good luck, Tim. I think you're swell.
Newt has become Joe Cannon, or Hamilton Fish or any of those once relevant figures, who are no longer. Pawlenty did play follow the leader, and despite what these other polls say, the ones that count are on election day, and she certainly in concert with others played her part. I don't know about Romney will be play Heseltine to her Thatcher, will Huckabee! be the new bright shining light, "Roman please" I somehow don't think so.
Just heard at the gym a rumor that it's CONCEIVABLE that a spokesman for John Edward's MIGHT make a statement today about whether or not not the former Senator COULD possibly decide to hold a Press Conference sometime in the future wherein he MAY decide to announce that IT'S POSSIBLE he is the father of Reille's kid...
In other news the kid started second Grade on Tuesday and has not yet had an H1N1 Flu Shot.
Got away all morning, after the Scozzafava announcement, and went to 2 granddaughter's soccer games. Game back to great pictures (thanks Ann) and the unsurprising news that suddenly Newt realizes Palin is a way smarter strategist than him! (and let's not even talk about Pawlenty, Romney or gawd help us, Huckabee!)
Let's hope RNC et al. start recognizing that conservatism is their way to go. Hopefully, this will impact that creepy Crist and help boost Marco Rubio too.
BTW, R. McCain, is reporting that Jonathan Martin's twitter is saying that Huckabee is coming out of the pumpkin patch to endorse Hoffman, then again the odds that either Martin or Huckabee actually exist, is near nil or the product of someone's deranged imagination.
In other news, Wilson was properly skewered
by Cheney in his FBI interview, in the LUN
*I feel bad for Pawlenty. He's supposed to be a 2012 potential, but even though I've been following this story closely, and remember generally that he said something regarding NY-23, I cannot for the life of me remember what it was.
He endorsed Hoffman - early. I like Pawlenty a lot. But he has a bit of a Mitt problem. I guess I just don't want some soft spoken gentle guy soothing my fears in 2012.
What I would love to know about any future date of my girls (okay they're a bit young yet) is how they get along with their family. I think you can tell a lot from a young person based on that. Of course there are going to be difficulties in the teen years, but the really good guys I knew in high school were always close to their families.
No problem with ObamaCare because all those voting for it are going to "Pledged His Life, Fortune, and Sacred Honor" in the event that their are miscalculations in the costs, etc.
Yes--I entered under my pen name, Angela Davis.

Frau, I'd like that idea a great deal more if I still (if ever I did have) had a bikini worthy body..but yes, it'll be hard but I'll adjust.

Great post up at The Corner by Marc Thiessen.
See LUN.

Go tea partiers. I tell ya, the revolution is here.
And if I could I'd go to the Bachmann rally at the capital on Thursday.

Palin led.

Hit, I think T-Paw endorsed Hoffman shortly after Palin.

Gad, I wish Romney and Palin would figure out how to work together.

Breaking news,
Just heard at the gym a rumor that it's CONCEIVABLE that a spokesman for John Edward's MIGHT make a statement today about whether or not not the former Senator COULD possibly decide to hold a Press Conference sometime in the future wherein he MAY decide to announce that IT'S POSSIBLE he is the father of Reille's kid...

He endorsed Hoffman - early. I like Pawlenty a lot. But he has a bit of a Mitt problem. I guess I just don't want some soft spoken gentle guy soothing my fears in 2012.
I want a bulldog.

Got any good grilling questions?
Ann,
What I would love to know about any future date of my girls (okay they're a bit young yet) is how they get along with their family. I think you can tell a lot from a young person based on that. Of course there are going to be difficulties in the teen years, but the really good guys I knew in high school were always close to their families.
Enjoy! :)

No problem with ObamaCare because all those voting for it are going to "Pledged His Life, Fortune, and Sacred Honor" in the event that their are miscalculations in the costs, etc.
