HEH--Cute He should "man up," the official said anonymously..
This isn't bad either and gets my vote:
" they are jabbering nonsense (Possible!) "Possible, indeed. I pity you guys--it's like a forever football game with Lucy, isn't it?

OK, that was easy.

I'm gonna pray for guidance on this issue to PUK.

It's man vs boy.

And the boy wonder in the WH knows the difference all too well.

They hope that sometime before the mid-terms he'll put a little hair on those moobs.

When the going sucks, the suckers get going.

You know why Obama looks so skinny coming out of those gyms? It's because he is sucking air.
==========================================

Thomas Collins

Manning up is not a matter of gender. Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, Annie Oakley and Joan of Arc come immediately to mind as females who had no problem manning up when necessary.

In any event, Obama Administration officials might want to limit remarks on testosterone related bravado until they've made progress with Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other world trouble spots.

unɹ puɐ ʇıɥ

TM:
As to women, I don't know anyone sufficiently brave or redundant to tell Margaret Thatcher to "man up".

"[Obama] seems to be in a similar situation as Thatcher was when she 1st became prime minister."

He wears a frock? The difference is Thatcher had a pair of balls,Michelle wears Obama's for earrings.

I love the word "frock."

Jack is Back!

This is all a conspiracy led by Warren Buffet to make Orville Redenbacher the world's number one corporation putting it miles ahead of Microsoft and GE.

"Pass the Popcorn" will become the most popular expression since LSMFT.

God I love these blue on blue fights.

Elliott

Is this some kind of semantic riddle?

clarice

Taranto (commenting on Obama's HBO viewing last night):"Good Lord, we've gone and put Norma Desmond in the White House. He is big. It's the elections that got small."

Sounds like our darling PUK, doesn't he?

clarice

Elliott in case you didn't see it Tony Glaser says the funeral and wake should be sometime next week, please keep checking here as I'll post the date and place as soon as I hear from him.

centralcal

Wow, Clarice - sounds exactly like a PUK line to me! (Well done, Taranto.)

centralcal

Quick question re: PUK services - you update this thread, Clarice, or another one?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

For those who have entertained the idea that Frank Marshall Davis might be BO's father, I think this picture will put that idea to rest.

Just a more hardlife version of Obama, don't you think?

Brother Says Obama Had Abusive Father

NK

Where to start??!!

Rahm or David, whomever this gutless -- is there any other kind?-- unnamed WH official is, will I'm sure also say:

"We should have manned up to the Mullahs in 2009 before they dropped the BOMB on the House of Saud and Tel Aviv in 2010";

"We should have manned up to the Taliban/AQ in 2009 before they detonated dirty bombs in Grand Central Terminal and Reagan Nat'l Airport in 2010";

"We should have manned up to the UAW in 2009 and not bailed out GM/Fiat(Chrysler) and let them go Chap 11, instead of the whole thing shutting down in 2010 right before midterms."

I am sure Rahm and David will man up and say just that. Bastards.

Elliott

Thank you, Clarice.

clarice

cc--as long as the PUK thread remains open, I'll post it there AND I'll post it on whatever is the most current thread at the time.

clarice

You're welcome, Elliott. Sara, I don't see the resemblance at all and I do see one with Davis and Davis' acknowledged son.

anduril
Gays are men too, yes? They want the right to serve in the military alongside our current group of heteros, yes?

Alongside, behind, wherever--isn't that the whole issue?

Jack is Back!

Is it possible that the anonymous WH official was practicing for his ESL test?

Weiner got wee wee'd up and ready to go.

WH says Weiner doesn't measure up.

Size matters.

Buzz

I think one reason Sudbay is irked is that Weiner has been rumored to be gay. He "dated" a Hillary Clinton aide who is all but out of the closet (and if she is straight, she is way, way out of Weiner's league). Beards of a feather ...

centralcal

Thanks, Clarice - while at work I can't keep up with all the threads and didn't want to miss anything important.

I watched a video of the Obama brother in CNN China interview - don't think he resembles Barack much at all and he has a much higher pitched voice.

I am gloating, GLOATING! Cable ratings for last night are as follows (per Mediaite):

FNC: 4,043,000 in total viewers (1,130,000 in A25-54)

MSNBC: 974,000 in total viewers (308,000 in A25-54)

HLN: 842,000 in total viewers (341,000 in A25-54)

Weiner--I am sure his parents and Humas are delighted at the prospect of this marriage.

After years as one of Washington's most eligible bachelors, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn, Queens) is engaged to Huma Abedin, a glamorous top aide to Secretary of State Clinton.

A source close to the couple confirmed that Weiner, 44, proposed to Abedin, 33, over Memorial Day weekend.

Hhhmmmm, Janet.

Jake Tapper: seriously this interview is sickening.

MayBee: @jaketapper just between you and me.....what interview are you watching?

Jake Tapper: i'm not telling u which legit interview i was watching. but it was really sycophantic!!! sorry.

I am wondering if Tapper was watching Andrea Mitchell?

centralcal

Ann, is it just me, or are POTUS's outfits getting more mismatched and weirder than ever?

bad

Wouldn't it be more PC to ask Weiner to "person up"?

Where is NOW on this great controversy?

unɹ puɐ ʇıɥ

Would have been more concerning if the WH had given a limp Weiner response.

Dave (in MA)

Bing tells me that "Chad Decker" is the sycophantic tv anchor character from the remake of "V", which makes sense seeing as how (so far) "V" seems to be an allegory of Obamunism.

Could Mrs. Greenspan be any more partisan?

bad

LOL Hit

narciso

On a somewhat more serious note, did I hear that the Italian courts convicted the Omar Nasr rendition team, in absentia. Words fail, with that clip, it's more like the cloying of Christine Sullivan, the Visitor's spokesperson in the original V

larry

man up = bite the bullet; face the music; pay the piper; accept your responsibility for your current situation. Ain't a one of this administration who even understands the term. PS: It doesn't require any gender to do it.

matt

it looks like Michelle has a walk on in "v" with that outfit.

Ann

Photobucket

cc, Weider than ever! Looks like she belted her bathrobe today. :)

anduril

there is, of course, an irony, etymologically speaking, in that virtue comes from the latin vir which refers to a specifically male person, whereas the latin homo is gender neutral: a human being. from that standpoint, virtues can hardly be other than manly.

Carl Pham

Didn't we just get done with a Supreme Court nominee, the "wise Latina woman," talking about the special X-ray legal vision and other superpowers granted to her by her sex chromosome?

Anyway, I'm perfectly willing to give up all my supposed manly virtues if I stop being suffocated with saccharine tributes to womanly virtues.

Or, alternatively, we could agree that, shockingly enough, men and women actually are inherently different, and therefore have complimentary (and not identical) virtues.

daddy

Hit,

LOL at both your latest---here, and you know where else.

centralcal

Ann: It looks even worse when you see the full photo. However, I figured out what she was attempting to do - bulk up her upper torso to be in balance with her ample lower half.

Remember, PUK, said she looked like 2 different people glued together (or some such).

PD

Okay, I'm watching local news coverage of Obama's visit today. Ooh, the anchors are breathless.

Obama clip: We need to stop just talking about education reform and start doing it.

Similar to his reported remark to Karzai that it's deeds that matter, not just words.

If Obama had some accomplishments to point to rather than just speeches, all this would be more impressive.

PD

There were protesters at Obama's visit, too. Of course, this being Madison, they're protesting from the left: End the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan, bring the troops home, Medicare 4 all, etc.

Porchlight

She just commited blasphemy with my favorite line in my favorite movie.

No joke. I don't know if it's my favorite line (I might go for "I was misinformed," if pressed) but it's certainly blasphemous.

Obama clip: We need to stop just talking about education reform and start doing it.

Hey, you think he used that line while heading up the Annenberg Challenge? Tick tock, Pookie.

I've been telling the presidebt to man up since he was elected. He hasn't budged. People in glass houses... and all that

"He is big. It's the elections that got small."

centralcal

anduril: Clarice noted the Taranto quip on another thread earlier today, and we agreed that it sounded almost PUK-esque.

Taranto has a similar wicked humor.

Sue

PD,

A young lady I know showed up at an event the other day with a belt on like Michelle's. Worn right underneath her boobs. She is rather large and her belly was not flat, IYKWIM. I was appalled, but remained silent. ::grin::

narciso

One is tempted to have the reporters say
'these are not the droids, we're looking for, move along, move along"

sbw

That's not a belt; it's a cinch strap.

When attaching a cinch strap, we learned to knee the horse lightly in the belly to get the horse to breathe out before tightening the cinch strap. But keep it loose enough so you can get three fingers under the strap.

unɹ puɐ ʇıɥ

Sue:
I was appalled, but remained silent.

You should have yelled, "Change!"

Because you could get away with it by then saying, "As I've always said, yes we can hope for the fierce urgency of now slowing the rise of the oceans because we are the ones we've been waiting for...hey, look over there, is that a Che t-shirt?"

Charlie (Colorado)

Not that many.

Charlie (Colorado)

it looks like Michelle has a walk on in "v" with that outfit.

Nah, the V outfits look austere and stylish.

clarice

Several apparel catalogues came in this week and they all had at least one belt over cardigan thingies..puhleeze..

Sue

Well, there will be a belt over my cardigan when hell freezes over. I'm not even sure I own a cardigan. And if do, I'm ditching it.

Porchlight

If it makes anyone feel any better, the belt over cardigan look appeared before Michelle latched onto it, so at least people aren't copying her, exactly.

I don't know if that does make me feel any better.

Blue

Hey, maybe she knows the O-Man will write bad checks or do anything she wants when she wears it high and tight under the First Bazooms :-)

Ann

sbw:

It has been awhile since I saddled a horse but that analogy is spot on and very funny. :)

I have no problems with a belt on the waist over an appropriate sweater. It just seems that Michelle was given bad directions on placement and material. Perphaps she sees herself as a centaur (half man/half horse).

We got a unicorn and centaur in the White House.

centralcal

Porch is right. The belt over cardigan or unstructured jacket has been around awhile, usually the belt is quite thin, and so is the person sporting this "look." (Think Carla Bruni).

When Ann shows up later tonite, have her go to the HuffPo style page and grab a picture of Michelle's latest favorite belt. They (the belts) are getting more substantial and wider (as, I presume, Michelle herself is).

I mentioned earlier today that Michelle will make an appearance on a special Iron Chef show. The "secret ingredient" will come from her WH garden. I look forward to Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Emeril Legasse and the four obnoxious judges getting lead poisoning on air. Talk about your reality shows.

Jane

IYKWIM.

Pray tell.

anduril

centralcal, I realized that Taranto's column had quite possibly been linked on another thread. My purpose in citing it in the context of this thread was to point out that there seems to be in Obama's degree of self preoccupation something specifically unmanly--all working out, basketball, golfing or (in the case of another presidential narcissist) philandering notwithstanding. I believe this is a not untypical male reaction to narcissism in men, and in a way gets to the heart of the question of "manly virtues," or, if you will, of virtue in a man.

Of course, I also find the weird colored icons on the JOM forum to be rather unmanly. OTOH, I like and wear cardigans. Unbelted. Belted would be distinctly unmanly, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Obama wears a belted cardigan in the privacy of the WH.

sbw

Heh, Ann. Glad someone else could appreciate it.

Stephanie

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Obama wears a belted cardigan in the privacy of the WH.

Actually, Richard Quest gave him a present ....IYKWIMAITYD.

Joan

Oh, goodness, anduril, I'm still laughing at the thought of Obama and his belted cardy. Wish PUK were here to comment on that one.

centralcal

Oh, anduril, my comment wasn't even a hint of a scold, I guess I am just still reeling a bit from the loss of PUK and wanted to share my (and Clarice's, too, I think) observation that the Taranto piece had a bit of PUKishness to it.

I agree - aren't these avatar thingies (for lack of a better description), rather annoying? (When I comment at work I get a completely different one from the home computer comments.) Same email - so that doesn't seem to be the deciding factor.

clarice

PD

I'm not even sure I own a cardigan. And if do, I'm ditching it.

I own several cardigans, I wear one every day when the weather gets cool. (Snarkists have been known to whisper "Perry Como!" in my presence. They're just jealous of my glamorous taste in clothes!)

PD

And I ain't giving them up just 'cause MO doesn't know how to wear them!

Dorothy Jane

Ann - I love the FLOTUS bathrobe comment - I wonder what she had on her feet? Bunny slippers?

JM Hanes

I find it so easy to imagine saying "man up" to a woman that it probably means I've done it. What really amuses me is Sudbay's closer:

The White House should have stood up and supported the Democratic candidate, and supported the Democratic base in other states as well.
It's just sooo much less sexist and homophobic to say the same thing that way, no?

centralcal

PD - cardigans are just fine, wear 'em myself. Just don't go pairing them with bondage or birdcage belts.

narciso

They do seem to 'have a gift' of saying and doing the wrong thing consistently, as for the wardrobe 'ay ya yay,' does seem to cover it,

cc, I do wear a belt - inside the belt loops of my jeans, where a belt is not ashamed to be seen.

I know why she wears the belt.

It's to emphasize what she's hiding by hunching. It's her stylist's twist to establish height, without actually standing.

They are both immeasurably, insecure people.

Thanks Clarice for the Obit Link.

That extra bit about playing with Lonnie Donagan tells me there is obviously other stuff out there of our P'UK and his music. Am trying to track down something called "Weaver's Lament" that he supposedly did in the 70's, but am having trouble finding it. Will keep digging.

Sorry, I am late posting this but there was a certain baseball game on last night that I used to cure my insomnia:)

From Paul Mlyranz at Manchester Beat:

Peters funeral will be at Southern cemetry, next Wednesday or Thursday, then a buffet at the Nursery later.
His body has been released and is at the undertakers, thery want to know if anyone wants to go and see him
before the close the coffin ?.
Thats all I have been told so far."
