Even the Times had to settle for a tight shot with just a handful of troops. Remember those photos of Cindy Sheehan, cropped to leave out all the MSM photographers with their microphone booms, and other equipment?

Jim Ryan

Kim? wtf?

I, uh, um.... Kim? I read the post and some of the 500+ comments. Can you sum this up for us in a paragraph? The mind reels.

Fraud? Conspiracy to take public funding by means of lies is fraud. It's fraud.

Barbara

That looks like an old photo. It can't remember the place it was taken, but I think that I've seen it before. I remember the tight shot. Maybe that's the only kind of "photo-with-the-troop(s)" he can take ---- or release.

E.g.:

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.”

To hide the decline. To hide the decline.

The whole things a scam, Jim.

(Man, I just automatically put that Dr. McCoy voice in my head.)

The unfortunate thing is, nobody will go to jail for it, including AlGore.

Charlie (Colorado)

Jim, I wrote this up for PJM, which will undoubtedly publish something with their usual promptness next week.

But I downloaded the data, and if it's a forgery it's a good one. Phil Jones has already admitted they were hacked and that "the data looks legitimate."

Charlie (Colorado)

And yeah, just looking at it, it looks like scientific misconduct and very probably some criminal offenses.

Climate data fraud? Some fake whore/pimp team ought to look into it!

If all this is true, I propose the lying scientists be tied to an ice floe in the Arctic and they can report back how much the water level is rising as the floe melts.

hit and run

If I purchased a house a quarter mile inland from the beach on the premise that the oceans were rising and would make it beach front property at some point in the future, based on Gore and other's words as a source, can I sue for emotional pain and suffering?

Because I really wanted a beach front house!!!

::sob::

Or,am I out of luck because Obama told us that August 2008 was the moment when he was going to slow the rise of the oceans?

clarice

If I gave up a flight to Europe this summer so AlGore could have some of my carbon footprint to fly his private plane around warning of global warming, can I get my carbon offset back?

Maybe we can do a video of "Does your carbon Footprint lose its value on the bedstand overnight?"

Jim Ryan

Hundreds of millions of public dollars were procured by fraud to support "research." Billions of dollars stand to be made by Cap n' Trade industry on the basis of fraud. Right here in Charlottesville there is a company which will make millions if it passes. Their employees rejoiced when the Supreme Court declared CO2 a pollutant.

Jim Ryan

A week's too long, Charlie. Clarice? How's about you and AT?

Charlie (Colorado)

A week's too long, Charlie. Clarice? How's about you and AT?

Sorry, I should have used the sarcasm font. I've been annoyed before by PJM's slow editorial cycle.

I just got a note from them saying "not clear it's real" and I responded with the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8370282.stm

Pofarmer

As long as careers are ruined and Cap n' Trade is rejected, that will suffice.

If this is true, and it certainly is, it's going to show much of the U.S. Senate, definately the leadership, being led around by the nose like a bull with a ring and a halter. Does that mean anything for this abomination of a healthcare bill? Hell, How many of them KNEW and were willing to pass this legislation for personal gain? There should be torches and pitchforks boys and girls. The bastards should be GONE from the halls of Washington. Sack Washington and put the Capital in Booneville MO or somewhere. I just blogged it for AT which is going to see if James Lewis , the penname of a prominent scientist will do a fast article on it.

Charlie let me add the live link and a h/t to you to the blog.

Rick Ballard

JR,

A week isn't too long. The scope of this fraud won't be completely revealed until McIntyre and others sift out the data "adjustments" which lie at the core of the fraud. Anthony Watts and Steve McIntyre are the heroes of the tale and I would much prefer that McIntyre's final exposure serve as the basis for explaining how the core group of fraudsters (Hansen, Jones, Briffa and Mann) tweaked massive amounts of data by very small increments in order to generate the GIGO upon which the fraud is based.

NOTE: The comment above has not been peer reviewed and I possess no credentials conferred by institutions whose value is inversely proportional to their reputation.

Pofarmer

You all do realize, this goes far beyond Can and Trade and Global warming. This goes directly to the CRAP SANDWICH that our "elected leadership" have been feeding us regarding information about a whole host of issues right down to the economy and insurance, and who knows what. If the powers that be aren't above fraud with the frickin weather, they're certainly not above fraud with healthcare, or the economy, or anything else. Hell, we KNOW that Harry Reid and Charles Schumber and Tim Geithner and Lord knows how many others have been CAUGHT committing fraud on a personal level and nothing has been done about it. Man, I am PISSED, and, unfortunately, impotent on this. Without a few million of us to march on Washington(and the MSM to report it as 272, give or take) what's to be done? Most of these fuckin clowns will be reelected, regardless.

Charlie (Colorado)

Okay, the BBC has convinced PJM. I just sent in an update and I think it will be up shortly.

Jim Ryan

You're right, Rick. Give the prosecutors time.

Po, if the evidence against the efficacy of Keynesian stimulus has long been conclusive, then we have recently been defrauded of $757B.

Pofarmer

Seems to me that a little uncivil disobedience is in order. What would happen if citizens plug the senate chambers and hallways so that the vote can't take place?

Charlie (Colorado)

By the way, you'll be pleased to know that AT is mentioned in the emails.

As "American Stinker".

Jim Ryan

AT is mentioned in the emails.

Clarice! POTB to you!

Great--can you give me the emails so I can get them to print it?

Charlie (Colorado)

Okay, just got a "will post soon" from PJ.

Charlie (Colorado)

I think we have been defrauded of much more than that. Remember the article from a few weeks ago that Al Gore was set to be the first AGW billionaire?

Rush and Clarice are like, Bff's. DO you have any idea how jealous I am?

Charlie (Colorado)

Climategate is big on Memeorandum.

Jane

If someone is so inclined could you lay out the global warming fraud in enough simplicity that I can talk about it on the radio?

Here is what I'm guessing it is:

For years we have been hearing that temperatures are rising, and man is causing it, and we need to take all sorts of expensive emergency steps to cure the problem. Now we find out they were actively cooking the numbers. Emails have revealed that the numbers never added up, we aren't warming and in order to keep the cash cow going the scientists pushing global warming fixed the numbers.

Or have I missed the entire point?

Porchlight

Gives me pause about how many of the troll comments on those Climate columns Kim always links to

Great job, Charlie and clarice - I hope this gets the coverage it deserves.

Well, Jane, you have Steyn--Of course he's married with kids..isn't he. Tough.

As for your summary--KIM is more up on it than I but it looks right to me..I'd add that skeptics have had a hard time getting grant money but climate frauds have not.

peter

Sorry I missed the reference to Clarice on Rush. I had him on, but when the callers start, I usually turn it off. Too much adulation, not enough substance. He had one of the worst callers of all time yesterday, some lady named Katy, I think.

Ranger

Jane, that is pretty much it. They were clearly using games with their statistical methods to get the data to fit their theories.

One of the e-mails clearly shows that when recent data conflicted with the theory, the data was judged as bad, rather than the theory being reconsidered to match the data. This is a total rejection of the scientific method.

Rick Ballard

Jane,

"The scientists charged with compiling the data upon which the warming scare is based have systematically made changes which exagerate mans effect upon the climate."

That's the core of the fraud and James Hansen and Phil Jones are the two individuals most culpable. "Normal" people will reach MEGO in about 30 seconds if you go to specifics regarding GISS and HadCRU. The fraudsters have known that from the get go - that's where the "hockey stick" graph comes into play.

I'd suggest beating the perpetrators with hockey sticks rather than hanging. The ones who make it through a coast to coast gauntlet can then start their prison terms.

Pagar

This was apparently written before it was announced that the leftists have been cooking the books on every thing they have preached for years.

" Economic optimists are wrong

The U.S. is facing a "truly extraordinary slump," says a well-known economist."

LUN

I can't believe that the climate stuff will make people think things are getting better.

Charlie (Colorado)

Jane, I'm undoubtedly going to write a longer piece for PJ today with explanation, but here's the basics:

so far, in the data, we find data and programs that skeptics like McIntyre & McKittrick have been requesting for a long time. It will be interesting to see if any of it is the data that was claimed to have been lost a few weeks ago.

In the emails we find:

- discussions of what data manipulations they've used to, shall we say, emphasize warming and de-emphasize cooling data.

- there's at least one email that looks to be a discussion of how to suppress a paper that contradicted some findings

- there's another email detailing their intention to notify a journal that they would no long submit to, or reference, that journal unless a skeptical editor was removed

- there's a discussion with the Real Climate folks about what they do to suppress dissent there

- there's a local big name climate guy saying they have a real problem since we keep having cold winters (he mentioned the big early-October snowstorm in Boulder particualrly) that can't be accounted for in their models

What it comes down to is that there is stuff that may well be the smoking gun saying they

- are refusing to share data
- are taking steps to keep data from being FOAI-ed, including deleting emails after being warned about it
- are conspiring (is that too strong a word? I don't think so) to suppress counter-evidence
- and are collaborating to subvert peer review.

This, as I say, appears to be both scientific misconduct and actual crime.

Porchlight

This is a total rejection of the scientific method.

Impossible. Everyone knows that only rabid right-wing Creationists reject the scientific method. Lefty global warmers are all about the science, man.

Porchlight

He had one of the worst callers of all time yesterday, some lady named Katy, I think.

I actually heard that call - I rarely get to listen to him as I'm at work, but I had an appointment and was in the car. She was unbelievable. I have to hand it to her, though, she rocked him back on his heels a bit with her ability to keep talking w/o letting him get a word in.

Charlie (Colorado)

Make that "top story on Memeorandum".

Thomas Collins

There has been no book cooking. What is happening is that the temperature increase is in Congressional districts and countries that don't exist!

Jane

Thanks guys, that helps.

You know we should run with: This was apparently written before it was announced that the leftists have been cooking the books on every thing they have preached for years.

It's not as if there isn't ample evidence.

And the BBC made a slight reference to it..respecting the hacking.

Jim Ryan

Also, suppose we do have a problem caused by AGW, which I doubt. These bastards have done us a great disservice by giving that theory a very bad name for the foreseeable future.

When you say to hell with the truth, the bad results can cut both ways.

Ignatz

--Does anyone think this high profile fraud being reported today will make it harder for Reid to get his 60 votes tomorrow?--

No.

--He had one of the worst callers of all time yesterday, some lady named Katy, I think.--

I actually thought she should have been cut some slack. She sounded like a conservative, declaring she would kill herself before she went on welfare. She had just lost her job and apparently her husband had died not too long ago.
So while she was kind of "obnoxious" as Rush put it, I think she is just a stressed out, desperate person and I'd guess all of us have said things we wish we hadn't under such circumstances.

--....or Ignatz could loan us a logging chain.--

Actually, bad, in logging we use an item made of 3/4 wire rope known as a "choker" which does just that. I have several I can loan out.

Well, this should get interesting.

The Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain was hacked yesterday, apparently by Russian black hats, and thousands of sensitive documents, including emails from climate scientists dating back a decade, were posted online. More here.

Officials at Hadley, a leading global-warming research center, have apparently confirmed to an Australian publication that the documents are genuine.

The whole affair has much of the blogosphere alight. Blogs skeptical of man-made global warming see blood in the water.

Some of the old emails from scientists made public apparently make references to things like “hid[ing] the decline,” referring to global temperature series and different ways to slice and dice climate data.

In all, it seems there are more than 3,000 files in the hacked folders, which have been reposted in various places on the Internet.

The big Copenhagen summit had lost a lot of its appeal in recent days, as world leaders kept dialing down expectations for the climate talks. Maybe this will spice things up.

Sorry, Dave, but, I AM PISSED. We've got these guys, getting multi-million dollar grants. You've got individuals like Al Gore, and, I'm sure others, and companies, that are making BILLIONS while they also drive up the cost of energy, increase taxes, and generally extort wealth from the rest of us!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap people, when is enough, enough? Witness Tom Daschle, they just slither back into the light when the time is right. They never stop, they keep planning, they keep implementing little parts of their agenda, they keep STEALING from the American people! And, what's the penalty? Why, they get voted out of office, to go work for a lobbying country for six or seven figures, or are put on the boards of some pet institutions. No, folks, this has to STOP, and, if there is no recourse, it can't. These bastards need to be AFRAID. That's the whole point of the second amendment.

Ok, what's the over-under on when the AGW proponents manage to come out with a "fake but accurate" reexamination of the data?

"Yes, we recognize there were some errors in the data previously analyzed, but our sophisticated X-17 beta filter has looked at the corrected data, and the evidence for global warming continues to be overwhelming."

Pofarmer

I dunno jimmyk, if there's evidence in there that they've also monkeyed with the historical CO2 numbers, as I suspect there is, I don't think there's gonna be much filtering they can do. There are going to be literally hundreds of thousands of bloggers going through these guys trash, it's their worst nightmare. This has been a coordinated effort to deceive, it would seem.
