A conservative TMZ wouldn't be bad either to give us a glimpse into the lives of some of these politicians. Al Gore and his mansion/boat. Barney Frank at his boyfriend's house during a drug bust...
They can cover Republicans too, but the old media already does that.
The Army will conduct an internal investigation to examine whether it missed warning signs about Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the man accused of killing 13 people in the Nov. 5 shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, two newspapers reported Monday.
I think there is some projection on Schieffer's part, they replaced with him with Couric and continue to stand by her.
TMZ is a particularly vile exponent of the brand
On the report, this strikes me close to the Python sketch about there 'being no cannibalism in the British navy, and by that I mean some"
WASHINGTON, DC) – Army and civilian personnel who were wounded or killed in the shooting attack on Fort Hood would be granted the same legal status as combatant casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, if bipartisan legislation introduced today by U.S. Representative John Carter (R-TX31) passes into law. Carter was joined by U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX10) for a news conference unveiling the bill in the House Radio-TV Gallery in the U.S. Capitol this afternoon.
“Our Fort Hood casualties should receive the same benefits and recognition as other combat casualties,” says Carter, who represents the Fort Hood area in the House, “as this was a planned terror attack on U.S. military personnel. It should make no difference in our care for the wounded and the families of the slain whether it occurred on an Army base in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Texas.”
While many military and survivor benefits are the same regardless of the status of the casualty, combatant status allows military personnel to receive the Purple Heart, and civilians to receive the equivalent award, the Secretary of Defense Medal of Freedom. Combatant status would also guarantee that the beneficiaries of all military personnel who lost their lives in the attack would receive the maximum life insurance available, extended family housing privileges, and other benefits.
“This bill is not about investigations or assigning blame,” says Carter. “It is about taking care of our troops and their families first. That’s why we have such strong support from both sides of the aisle, and why we hope and expect this to move quickly.”
Over 30 House Members nearly evenly split between parties joined Carter as original co-sponsors on the legislation. Carter is Co-chairman of the House Army Caucus for the 111th Congress, and is Secretary of the House Republican Conference.
On the cover of this week's issue of Newsweek is a photo that was shot for the August 2009 issue of Runner's World, in which Sarah Palin was featured on the monthly "I'm a Runner" back page. Runner's World did not provide Newsweek with the image. Instead, it was provided to Newsweek by the photographer's stock agency, without Runner's World's knowledge or permission.
Plus Meachum has also issued a response:
“We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do. We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard.”
I would guess Newsweek has gotten a lot of negative feedback if Meachum had to respond.
My son just came in and said, "Palin's book came out today, I'm surprised you weren't out first thing to buy one." My answer: "I can't afford it until after the 1st of the mo."
He then handed me a bag from Wal-Mart, with a big grin. It is the book. Every once in awhile, he reminds me why I love him so much. :)
"The Army will conduct an internal investigation to examine whether it missed warning signs about Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan."
There is no need to waste a moment on this investigation, when Gen Casey says:
"Speculation could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers and what happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here."
LUN
The above statement from Gen Casey informed every member of the military that they better not say anything critical about any Member of the diversity. When the Commander in Chief says "Don't jump to Conclusions" when members of the American military are gunned down like dogs on an American military post, one already knows what the study will find if the writers want to get promoted.
When there has to be a Congressional action to declare that American Service people who are killed in combat (in the US)are entitled to the same benefits as those killed in combat over seas, this country is deeply in trouble, IMO.
The first day of bootcamp you have diversity thrives, by the day of graduation, the unit better damn well be cohesive with a common mission and very much NOT diverse or what is the point of having an Army at all.
Sara, good to hear of something going right these days.
Meacham has openly admitted putting NEWSWEEK on a more lefty course, though not to the point of changing the title to OPINIONSTHATMATTERTOTHELEFTTHISWEEK. With luck, he will continue to flounder, thereby putting even more pressure on the Washington POST.
"Forget Goldberg or Malkin or the other professional ragers;"
IMO, this is why we have no real conservative voices in America anymore. Anyone who tries to point out bad things about leftists is either ignored or labeled a "professional rager"
" And a news show that exposes the interconnectedness of the news media and leftist organizations."
I can name a dozen blogs that already do this on a daily basis. With the exception of American Thinker and one or two others, most of them don't get a half dozen comments on any of their exposes. The Big Government site is turning out articles exposing the left hour after hour but there is not much sign that anyone is doing anything with the info.
The FCC is poised to end ever the little bit that the conservative blogs are able to get out into the airwaves, and one hears very little about it.
Local Anchorage Talk Radio remains hostile to Sarah. Not all, but definitely the most popular guy, Conservative Host Dan Fagan, whom I caught yesterday (750 AM 2-5PM) doing the damn Sarah monolog and her book.
Fagan had Frank Murkowski, former Governor and Senator on for an interview during the last hour. Fagan prefaced has questions to Murkowski by completely damning Sarah, specifically calling her a Liar, the worst Governor we've ever had in the State, etc etc, and trying like crazy to get Murkowski to agree and damn her as well.
Murkowski did the decent and intelligent job of refusing to do Fagan's bidding, and simply discussing The State's economy, Health Care, etc, without damning anyone, Sarah, his daughter Lisa, or Begich.
So just FYI, if as 2012 gets closer Sarah winds up getting more prominent as a viable candidate for the Repub's, you are going to start seeing and hearing an awful lot from this fat, loudmouthed, Rightwing Conservative Sarah hater. So stand by for it, because the MSNBC'ers and CNNer's and MSMer's etc will ride him like Secretariat to the finish line.
And on the Begich front, it seems the report of investigation into his withholding financial info from the City Board has been delayed. You'll recall that Begich intentionally withheld from the voting Assembly Members essential financial info about City coffer shortfalls. This was so the Assembly members would mistakenly think enough money was available to award lavish Unions contracts to Begich's constituency, without putting the city into the 30 million dollar shortfall it is currently in, exactly as Begich was advised it would in the information from his Chief Financial Officer that he withheld from the Assembly. In addition, last Friday, a Conservative Assembly member accused Begich of further cooking the books by a further 27 million. Yet as I type the ADN (Anchorage Daily News) refuses to do any story's on it at all, so that's why I have to listen to our local odious Talk Radio guys to try to get the story when they interview the Assembly Members. Sorry I am unable to provide any links.

Some of you may remember D student Al Gore, who ran against W in 2000 and was unsuccessful in having the Florida Supreme Court steal the election for him.
Well, there is a very funny story at The Corner about Gore's appearance on TV recently. He got the temperature of the center of the earth wrong, can you believe it? He was off by only a couple million degrees.
Hey, David, which one of you has made the world a significantly better place, for example improving a state or invigorating a polity, and which one of you is a joke?
Take your time...
For extra credit if you get that one wrong again: Which one of you prolly voted for Barack Obama?
My blood boils everytime I think of that election. Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections and Democrat, Theresa LePore, designed that Butterfly Ballot. A copy was sent to every registered voter in Palm Beach County. A copy of the ballot was published in the local newspaper. There were copies posted all over the polling place walls with directions. And there was an arrow pointing to the candidate of your choice! Disenfranchised my ass!
This is a little longwinded but this is my answer as to why the most popular Conservative Talk Radio Host in this Liberal Media environment of Alaska so despises Sarah Palin.
Fagan considers himself God's gift to Conservatives. He is a mini-Rush Limbaugh wanna' be, but lacking by far the grace and humor and intellect of Rush. He wants Low Taxes, Small Government, a strong Military, Pro-Life, anti-Illegal Immigration, anti Welfare, anti-unequal Equal Opportunity programs, borders language culture, etc --- standard bedrock Conservative values. His problem with Sarah is that from what he has observed of her, he does not believe that she is actually beholden to any of that stuff, only gives it lip-service when convenient.
Fagan was at one time a fan of Sarah, but truly despises her because he believes she governed not as a Conservative or with Conservative principles, but as a Liberal. It's personal on his part, because somehow or somewhere they had a falling out, so from shortly after her election as Governor she has no longer appeared on his radio show, and so he has gone off and entertained all things anti-Sarah; Levi, TrooperGate, Ethics Investigation slowdowns, Turkeygate, failure to release all required documents to the press or investigators immediately, etc. He especially loathes her for her AGIA Gas Line project, which he personally despises as wasteful and unworkable, and damns her for not continuing Murkowski's alternate gas initiative with the Oil Companies, which, because it was done in midnight deals and with great hubris and secrecy by Murkowski and Big Oil, and done amid widening and very public probes of corruption between old boy Repub politicians and the Oil Companies, it's actually what got Murkowski defeated and got Sarah elected in the first place as the non-Murkowski Conservative Alternative. Fagan is a great example of the old maxim, "the enemy of the good is the perfect", meaning that if she is not straight down the line on what he considers chapter and verse of Reaganomics, then she is the enemy, and she must be annihilated and not allowed to become a standard bearer of Conservatives or the Republican Party. He has publicly apologized to her before on his show for being overly vicious to her in his attacks, and vowing not to do it in future, but he just can't seem to help himself, and so starts criticizing her all over again like an alcoholic going back to a binge on the bottle, and posting anti-Sarah columns by Maureen Dowd or David Brooks or Krugman etc on his "Conservative" Blog,
It's worthwhile in my opinion to take a moment just to click on ">http://www.thealaskastandard.com/node?page=1"> this link to The Alaskan Standard, and scroll down a bit just to read the story headlines. (Plus a picture of our Danny-boy). Very anti-Sarah, but then you also come come upon his stuff on Begich with frequent links to the Assembly members, which is why I have to pay attention to the guy, much as it bothers me, because that stuff is not reported by our local Liberal Print or network News media and the other local hosts just don't get as decent guests and so aren't as valuable to me to spend any time listening to.
In my view the bottom line on Fagan is that he will do anything he physically can do to publicly destroy Sarah Palin as a candidate for any future office in America, and he will engage in that destruction on any venue (MSNBC, etc) that will give him a microphone to do it. I honestly think he believes that by doing that HE believes he is doing a service to the Conservative movement. And the closer it gets to election time, and the higher she rises in the polls, the more he will be frantically driven to try to destroy her. That's my view of the guy.
Tku, Daddy, for the link and taking the time to describe Fagan's actions to us.
Sarah Palin is a brave with a bazooka compared to such a scalpless wimpface.
Drawing out the fire. Smart tactic. The MSM are making themselves look ridiculous. Her detractors' batteries will run down. Even babies stop crying at some point.
Pagar @ 6:25pm - yeah, there is such great info on the internet. How do we break through to the mainstream? How does a busy working American, that is not a news junkie, find out that the global warming reporter on tv is married to a radical environmentalist? Or that Obama probably had Bill Ayers help writing his book? Or that Barny Frank was present at a drug bust at his boyfriend's house?
The enemy is the MSM. Covering up and omitting vital information that Americans need to make an informed decision.
"I disagree with the Obama administration on [Israeli settlements]," Palin told Walters. "I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand."
Color me skeptical (once again). The only other place in the world, besides Israel, with significant numbers of Jews is America. If "that population of Israel is going to grow" through "flocking," it will most likely have to happen through "flocking" of Jews from America to Israel. My guess is that American Jews will be staying right where they are. In fact, I think I'd be willing to bet that there won't be significant "flocking" in the foreseeable future--not in the years ahead and definitely not in the short timespan that Sarah envisions: "in the days and weeks and months ahead." And I'm not even a betting man.
I wish her all the best, but the GOPers need someone better. I sure wish there were some viable alternatives--it's never too early. She can fulfill a function by doing what she's doing now, but I don't think she's ready for national office.
As the unemployment rate in the U.S. climbed to a 26-year high of 10.2 percent last month, growing numbers of young and adult American Jews were arriving in Israel to inexpensively "wait out" the economic lull.
In an attempt to lure diaspora Jews to make Israel their permanent home, the Israeli government and Jewish organizations offer a multitude of scholarships and travel grants, allowing many to spend up to six months in Israel almost for free.
The key aim is to safeguard a Jewish majority in a country where Arab citizens make up 20 percent of the population. In 2008, some 15,400 Jews immigrated to Israel, of whom 3,200 came from North America.
MASA, which means journey in Hebrew, oversees 160 such programs. It has seen the number of participants double and even quadruple this year, especially among those aged 21 to 30.
The balance I suppose is between "more and more" and "flocking".
But interestingly it appears only 20% of immigrants came from North America in 2008.
hit, you'll notice that those people went to "inexpensively "wait out" the economic lull." not to become settlers. i have to run and give blood. does the article mention the numbers of people emigrating? there's a growing community of israeli expats in america. yes, it comes down to "more and more" and "flocking". from the programs to encourage immigration, it seems 15K per year (balanced to some degree by emigration) doesn't appear to the israeli government to be "flocking".
gotta run, so i'll just paste:
Emigration from Israel exceeds immigration, report
Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa)
04/20/2007
Tel Aviv (dpa) - In Israel, the number of emigrants exceeded the number of immigrants for the first time in 20 years, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported Friday.
Many emigrants were recent arrivals who wanted to leave Israel again, the report said. In 2007, 14,400 immigrants are expected in Israel while 20,000 people are expected to leave the country, according to the report based on figures for the first months of 2007.
The last time emigration exceeded immigration was in the aftermath of the 1973 Yom Kippur War and in 1983 and 1984 when inflation was high.
Meanwhile the Maariv newspaper reported that approximately a quarter of the Israeli population was considering emigration.
Almost half of the country's young people were thinking of leaving the country, the report said. Their reasons included dissatisfaction with the government, the education system, a lack of confidence in the political ruling class and concern over the security situation.
me: there are many sources re israeli emigration. also look up yerida on wikipedia. i appreciate your fact checking, but even when i may appear to be winging it, i usually have back up. :-)
Every time Israel gives up land for peace, what happens? Israel already dismantled it's settlements in the Sinai, after Egypt signed a peace treaty with them. The Palestinians responded with 4000 rockets fired into Israel.
Janet @6:26AM. I have no earthly idea how we can do anything to spread the info uncovered in the various conservative blogs except that we all keep doing all we can to support our views and spread the word. If someone's actions show that they are working to spread the conservative message, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, etc, we need to promote their message, not hinder it. God knows that there is no one on the left trying to help us spread the word that whatever the left touches turns to garbage. One of the reasons I try to post a lot of links, is that it is obvious that many people in the conservative movement are not getting all the good stuff that is being produced.
Here is just one example, from the real barack obama wordpress site.
"Loudon: Alice Palmer Re-examined, Was Obama’s First Political Boss a Soviet “Agent of influence”?"
LUN
9 people commented on the article at the site, including a couple who I believe follow the site and try to put down any notion that Obama is Communist. Such excellent work by Trevor Loudon and followed by so few.
"try to put down any notion that Obama is Communist."
Look, it's OBVIOUS the guy was raised a communist. Whether he is currently? Well, if you look at what he's done, I'd say that's obvious too. Problem is, with the fall of the wall, Communism has been considered dead, and, even when I was in school, it wasn't properly taught.
hit, sorry if I misunderstood your point--I was running very late.
Yes, the fact that so few immigrants to Israel were from America (20%, ~3K) is indicative of the fact that American Jews aren't likely to "flock" to Israel any time soon. American Jews being, by and large, a well informed group, I'd be surprised if most who had given even a passing thought to the matter weren't also aware that a quarter of Israelis are considering bailing out.
It would be interesting to know where the other 80% of immigrants to Israel came from, although I'm not interested enough to do any searching. My GUESS is that most of the remainder didn't come from advanced Western countries. I take that back, I just did a quick Wiki of "aliyah" and saw the stats for 2006, which appear to be typical for quite some years. About half (7K+) are coming from the former USSR. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't meet my criterion for "advanced Western countries." Another 4,500 came from Africa (percentage-wise quite a few more than from America)--'nuff said. All this indicates economic motivation (see below).
The significant imbalance between emigration and immigration requires explanation. My understanding is that the motivating factor is one of economic opportunity--or so I've concluded from the Israelis I've met. The fact is, Israel is a rather socialist country and that many Israelis eventually start looking elsewhere for more open and better remunerated employment possibilities. I say that as a shorthand way of translating what the article cites: "dissatisfaction with the government, the education system, a lack of confidence in the political ruling class..." The security situation is listed last, and I'm not surprised (although I don't know that the list was a ranked one). When a quarter of a country's population is considering emigration, that's a whole lotta dissatisfaction, and I attribute that to economic and social dissatisfaction, rather than fear of Israel's neighbors. Statistical studies of security risks in Israel will, I believe, bear me out on that.
anduril, can you be comfortable with any woman as commander in chief?
bad, the easy answer would be to say Maggie Thatcher--grocer's daughter though she was she was also infinitely (a word I don't use loosely) more qualified to lead a major nation than Sarah--it's too bad she never got the chance.
I think I'd also prefer Angela Merkel to most current world "leaders" that I'm aware of--certainly to our current "One."
hit, I should add that I attribute the low immigration rates to Israel from advanced countries to be heavily influenced by the same sorts of economic DISincentives that influence the decision to emigrate from Israel.
Pagar, thank you for the Loudon link on Alice Palmer. And I appreciate everyone's links. The diversity in all our reading sources, shared here, is so valuable.
We will prevail, spreading the word, little by little.
Let's just pretend what we say and do here gets magnified to the power of millions.

The Corner is reporting this:
From Runner's World magazine:

Posted by: Pagar | November 17, 2009 at 06:00 PM

Just FYI,
Local Anchorage Talk Radio remains hostile to Sarah.

Pofarmer,
This is a little longwinded but this is my answer as to why the most popular Conservative Talk Radio Host in this Liberal Media environment of Alaska so despises Sarah Palin.

ABC, quoting the Walters interview:
She can fulfill a function by doing what she's doing now, but I don't think she's ready for national office.

hit, you'll notice that those people went to "inexpensively "wait out" the economic lull." not to become settlers. i have to run and give blood. does the article mention the numbers of people emigrating? there's a growing community of israeli expats in america. yes, it comes down to "more and more" and "flocking". from the programs to encourage immigration, it seems 15K per year (balanced to some degree by emigration) doesn't appear to the israeli government to be "flocking".
gotta run, so i'll just paste:

Posted by: anduril | November 18, 2009 at 02:07 PM
hit, sorry if I misunderstood your point--I was running very late.
Posted by: anduril | November 18, 2009 at 02:31 PM
anduril, can you be comfortable with any woman as commander in chief?
bad, the easy answer would be to say Maggie Thatcher--grocer's daughter though she was she was also infinitely (a word I don't use loosely) more qualified to lead a major nation than Sarah--it's too bad she never got the chance.
I think I'd also prefer Angela Merkel to most current world "leaders" that I'm aware of--certainly to our current "One."
Posted by: anduril | November 18, 2009 at 02:34 PM
hit, I should add that I attribute the low immigration rates to Israel from advanced countries to be heavily influenced by the same sorts of economic DISincentives that influence the decision to emigrate from Israel.
