Rush embarks on a deep undercover penetration of Ground Zero of the Birther theory. I hope he is otherwise fine.
And a Happy New Year to all. I am driving off into the Noreaster, so I may be incommunicado for a while.

White House aides, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and new White House counsel Robert Bauer, ordered staff to begin researching similar breakdowns -- if any -- from the Bush Administration.
"The idea was that we'd show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could," says a staffer in the counsel's office. "We were told that classified material involving anything related to al Qaeda operating in Yemen or Nigeria was fair game and that we'd declassify it if necessary."
Is your head exploding yet? We are screwed folks. Truly, truly screwed. When they are spending their time doing shit like this instead of looking for ways to keep us safe, I don't even know what to say. Except we are screwed.

We are in the very best of hands.
Hell if the Obama Administration weren't so hot-and-bothered to close Gitmo (and having one of the lead attorneys of the effort as Attorney General) he could lay the whole thing at the foot of the Bush Administration's feet with their catch-and-release program.

Rich--like that's ever going to happen with this bozo crew....
Kudlow's thinking is that 2010 will be a year to take some opportunity in making some money in the markets before higher taxes kick in. And along with that is Mr Ballard's prediction that housing is some short supply.
So with those somewhat cheery thoughts I'm wishing TM, his family and all the JOM family a very happy and prosperous New Year in 2010 and also to gird our loins for November and the elections when the R's take back the House.

Many of our military and some members of the CIA give their lives and limbs to capture the enemy. The Obama administration releases them, apparently in some faint hope that it will make the enemy like us.

Anyone want to bet how many of the planners of the attack that killed the CIA people, had been previously held by the American military?
Want to bet they have added that to their data mining list on the Bush administration. GM and Chrysler, now the motor vehicle division of the USA, use to try to win car sales by blaming the Japanese for using cheaper steel, cheaper labor, etc. Not for using better methods of manufacturing, logistics and QA/QC. The Obama Administration is the same way - lets govern by blaming Bush or using them as an excuse to deflect our own incompetency and degraded product we are trying to sell. The fact is that more and more Americans are learning that the Bush product wasn't that bad and didn't come with the mandatory "flying Dutchman" air bags.

Snowstorm squelches climate change protest
By Judy Fahys
The Salt Lake Tribune
Updated: 12/30/2009 06:36:58 PM MST
A downtown protest of the climate change talks in Copenhagen became a victim of Wednesday's snowstorm.
"Not many people showed up because of the blizzard conditions," said organizer Clea Major, an international studies student at the University of Utah.
It didn't take long for the six friends to pack up a bullhorn and posters they'd planned to use for their "scream-in," an outlet for their frustration about the failure of the Copenhagen climate talks earlier this month to curb the pollution blamed for climate change.
Still, they chatted with a few passers-by during the commuter-hour protest near the Gateway, and explained that, blizzard aside, climate change is expected to bring chaos to the global climate, said Major.
She called Wednesday evening's effort a success and possibly the first in a series. As for the snow, it's not entirely new; a protest she attended last year in Washington, D.C., suffered a similar fate.
"There is always the irony element," Major said.

Happy New Year to all the JOMers and TM; can't believe it's about to be 2010. Mrs H and I are going to a party with a New Awlins theme and I'm making jerk chicken.
Best wishes to Rush; although I've said some negative things about him before and I think some of the wailing for him over at AoS hits a bit too close to the cult-of-personality garbage that the left is more comfortable wallowing in, I sincerely wish for him to be well for many years.

This is the second time Rush has been in the direct vicinity of Obama during his term. Remember when The Once gathered a bunch of so-called conservatives for cocktails in Chevy Chase on the same day that Rush "was away from his program" and in DC for some hastily called event? Now he is in Hawaii at the same time as The Once's vacation. I do not believe in coincidence - both are avid golfers and Rush had just played Wailea Country Club and so has The Once. I wonder if some how The Once rolled in a fifty footer to win a double-pressed $50 nassau? That would give me more than chest pains but then I don't have Rush's werewithall.

I pretty much agree with this because I find his radio personality very enjoyable. The only problem I had with him was reading his book about his dog Sprite; early on in it he described how he yelled at a person that hit a dog (maybe it was Sprite because I just stopped reading it after the vignette) and came back to offer help. Even though I'm a dog lover I know how some dogs can be regarding cars and wouldn't be quick to denounce somebody automatically, particularly if his conscience led him to return to help out.

Rush is good because he works hard at it, has a good sense of things and is good natured and funny.
He distills far more complicated bits of information into memorably presented tidbits busy people can grasp as they ride about doing their work. And that sounds much easier to do than it is.

From Clarice's link:
The five guards had been charged with manslaughter and weapons charges. The charges carried mandatory 30-year prison terms.
It was unclear what the ruling means for a sixth Blackwater guard, Jeremy Ridgeway, who turned on his former colleagues and pleaded guilty to killing one Iraqi and wounding another.

In case anyone hasn't read the account of Kurt Haskell, an eye-witness attorney who was on Flight 253, regarding the second man, and possible accomplice of the panty-bomber, in addition to passport irregularities of the bomber himself.
Flight 253 passenger Kurt Haskell: 'I was visited by the FBI'
Is there a cover-up being attempted here? Seems so, since Haskell seems credible. And if there is a cover-up, who is perpetrating it?
Posted by: Extraneus | December 31, 2009 at 06:02 PM
At first I thought he was mistaken; then I thought the FBI ws trying to keep co-conspirators from finding out too much of what we know. Now I think Haskell's right and our FBI in peace and war is up to no good.

So the TSA strong-arms a blogger for posting the notice after it was already read by thousands of people, and passengers had already experienced the new security joke, and then confiscates his laptop, and copies his hard drive. (Did he get bad advice from his lawyer or what?)
Then the FBI changes their story three times regarding a possible second man, the passport check of the first man, and whether there was another bomb in a carry-on, which they allowed to sit with all the passengers still at risk for an hour after the flight landed?
Meanwhile Rahm and Axelrod comb the national security database to find lapses or breaches that may have occurred during the Bush administration, so they can use any findings to defend against accusations of incompetence regarding the panty-bomber?
Politics will kill people yet again.
