Jack is Back!

I only wish I knew how to post pictures on the comments section of posts like Matt(MA) does and (is it) Jane.

We are in Southampton, not Florida, but New York and my 6 year old has now seen his first full-fledged blizzard and over a foot of snow. It is absolutely beautiful since there is no one here except the full time residents. Main St., Job's Lane and Windmill Lane are fully decorated with lit Christmas trees lining the streets. Above the northerly approach onto Main St. hangs a Santa in sleigh with all 9 reindeers sculpted in lights fully across the street 15 feet high. Every drive on my street is un-plowed with 14-16 inches of snow just begging to be shoveled.

Now, I know this is a big yawn to the rest of you, especially Daddy (when was summer in Alaska, this year, July 2nd?). But for a 6 year old and his first sled it is nirvana.

rse

Sounds delightful.

I need someone's help.

Do you recall the story about the US cutting off funding to a Human Rights watch group on Iran located here in the US?

Had a discussion last night with 2 liberal friends who were astounded that the US wasn't doing everything it could to help the poor Iranian people.

I told them I'd email them the story.

Let me know if you recall it or have a cite.

Jack is Back!

rse,

Do you mean this story? LUN

pagar

"Do you recall the story about the US cutting off funding to a Human Rights watch group on Iran located here in the US? "

There is simply no way that the Obama Administration is going to allow the American people to know that there are people in Iran fighting to be free of the current regime.

rse

That's just what I meant.

Thanks.

Thanks for that clarification, narciso.

Jane

JiB,

It's Ann who post pictures. It took me 20 years to figure out how to actually post a link.

We still are mid-blizzard - which is a great excuse to start a fire and get more depressed about the news.

Janet

Yeah Jane, me too...fire and depression! I've been such a downer on these threads lately. My one bit of good news was on the Sat. thread. I heard back on Facebook from one of the soldiers in Afghanistan that got a package from our church. He must have gotten one of the stockings our family made up. I was so excited. I got Naomi to set up that account for the JOM Tea Party gathering...and now I got to hear from a soldier on it. Very cool.

narciso

WEll it's been serious flooding, down here, like bad outtakes from Day after Tomorrow, for the previous day or so. I was spared the worst of it, unlike nine years ago. That's great news Janet

centralcal

My modem bit the dust yesterday, sob. So I am temporarily on dial-up, waiting for the arrival of the new modem via UPS next week.

It is so depressing reading these threads. Well, except for your last comment, Janet. "Very cool," indeed.

Janet

I hope to meet y'all, narciso and centralcal, at the next JOM Tea Party event. April? We can have a get together at my house mocking the chattering class..."the clattering glasses". Beer, sodas, and refreshment while we solve our nation's problems!

Megan McArdel: With Healthcare, Democrats Commit Unprecedented Act Of Political Suicide:

So there's now about a 90% chance that the health care bill will pass.

At this point, the thing is more than a little inexplicable. Democrats are on a political suicide mission; I'm not a particularly accurate prognosticator, but I think this makes it very likely that in 2010 they will lost several seats in the Senate--enough to make it damn hard to pass any more of their signature legislation--and will lose the house outright. In the case of the House, you can attribute it to the fact that the leadership has safe seats. But three out of four of the Democrats on the podium today are in serious danger of losing their seats.

No bill this large has ever before passed on a straight party-line vote, or even anything close to a straight party-line vote. No bill this unpopular has ever before passed on a straight party-line vote. We're in a new political world. I'm not sure I understand it.

...

But I think that it's going to be a fiscal disaster for my country, because the spending cuts won't be--can't be--done the way they're implemented in the bill. We've just increased substantially the supply of unrepealable, unsustainable entitlements.

So Megan has never bothered to study what the Left is all about. On the other hand, she seems to have studied Latin: "alea jacta est." These people hate America and Americans. And Americans don't get that.

peter

Please folks, let's don't get depressed. An uplifter at the LUN

GMax

The hell with all the gloom and doom, win back both houses and refuse to fund the stuff.

Now lets move on to more important topics, like:

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS! (who dat?)

Sue

GMax,

::grin:: I was on pins and needles in the final minute of that game. Dallas' "D" came through.

TexasIsHeaven

I have never forgiven Jerry Jones for the way he did Tom Landry - though I sneak around once in a while to watch the Cowboys - I feel bad for the Saints. I really thought the Saints would clean their clock.

Merry Christmas to all the JOM folks - I love you guys.

It will be the Saints and the Colts in the Super Bowl. Remember I said it here first.

clarice

We love you , too, TIH.

PD

There is simply no way that the Obama Administration is going to allow the American people to know that there are people in Iran fighting to be free of the current regime.

Because of the parallel to the American people?

tblot

How about them COWBOYS Sure needed the win.
Life is great in the pacific northwest

Sue

I feel bad for the Saints

Not me. I'm gloating. The Saints got lucky in a couple of games before this one. Their luck ran out. Vikings and Colts. I said it first. ::grin::

PD

McCain is laying the smackdown on Bammy on FNS.

Would that he had done so during the campaign.

McCain wanted to behave with decorum. Obama wanted to WIN.

narciso

Can someone explain this little detail from a midlevel Mukhrabat leader in the LUN. and how it didn't block his extradition. I know rhetorical question.

Yes, Sarah wanted to win, one of the many reasons they still persecute here, that's not too harsh a term, is it

clarice

Actually, I can't believe that is the reason McCain behaved as he did. He seems to me a man who is afraid someone will attack him back if he fights hard. Odd to say that of a war hero like that, but that's my opinion. And it's why he picked such a dreadful staff who attacked his more effective running mate . One even said publicly he'd quit if McCain attacked Obama.
What kind of crazy is that?

TexasIsHeaven

Clarice -Thank you - I know I don't post very often, but I still check in a least once a day just to keep up.

Sue - You may be right about the Vikings and the Colts. Brett is having his best year ever. I thought his move to the Jets was a bad one but when he decided to go to the Vikings I was thrilled even though I am a Green Bay fan. Vince Lombardi is one of my all time heroes - after General Robert E. Lee and Davy Crockett. But I still like the Saints and the Colts - we will see

narciso

He just gave up, maybe because the subprime situation was exactly what he had been warning
about, one can't get around that. Honestly, can one really think of a good reason why a
Libyan intelligence official has 3 million in
a Swiss bank account, and was allowed to go free, that isn't cynical, as opposed to naive

Captain Hate

Don't get me wrong; I still think McCain would've made a terrible president but not nearly as bad as Toonces. I said this at AoS yesterday: My father raised me to believe that if I had two broken legs and no transportation it would be my responsibility to crawl to the polls whenever there was an election; and if the contest was between two crummy candidates it was even more necessary to identify the lesser bad one and vote accordingly.

pagar

"Because of the parallel to the American people?"
BR, Thanks I knew I should have added that as soon as I reread it. The saddest thing is despite all kinds of allegedly free press in America; most of the American public only gets whatever propaganda the Democrats are handing out. Look at the WH news conferences, nothing but leftist propaganda. MSM for all their so called reporters - can't seem to find out anything about Climate gate. Wonder why that is?

centralcal

Most of the media, pagar, are as evil as the lefties they coddle. Our side needs to just keep spreading the word to friends and neighbors about alternative choices for news, current events.

I have already converted 2 of my workmates.

We can vote politicos in or out, but we need to DRIVE out their front lines in the media. When they fall, many on the left will fall too.

Hire demonstrably anti-Israeli lefty translators and is it a surpruise they leak and twist stuff to harm AIPAC and Harman?

Not to me.

Old Lurker

Well, Clarice, had your friends come to my house for dinner last night, they would be here still. The official measurement at my gate, at the other end of a very long and sloping drive, is 23" of the white stuff. Six pretty big limbs litter the drive.

Now, as my attorney, and knowing that I will never run for elected office or seek senate confirmation, would you advise me to ask for green cards when my gardener's crew shows up later to dig me out?

Oh, and may I second the compliment paid to you for the timing of your trip south. Well played.

Howard Venkman

narciso

Why am I not surprised, yet with Nancy P's contacts with all sorts of Salafi varmints, that gets pushed under the rug

narciso

Peter Venkman, maybe but Howard?

Rick Ballard

Clarice,

The waves of stench coming out of the DoJ/FBI are much stronger than I had realized. After looking up the lead prosecutor in the Stevens railroading I wondered if she might have been involved in denying your assertion concerning Fitzgerald's tenuous grasp of ethics. Her involvement in the Abramoff matter prior to being assigned as the hit man on Stevens suggests the existence of a team dedicated to political persecutions. One might wonder as to why such a team never found any corruption involving Ted Kennedy and the Big Dig robbery, or Richard Daley and the Chicago scum who have stolen so much from so many for so long. What makes the Kennedy/Daley syndicate untouchable? Is it the same thing which renders the thieving whores who comprise the Black and Progressive Caucuses immune? Or something slightly different?

Jack is Back!

Finally dug out. Made a tire path to the road. Measured 23 inches deep. No one is out except the hispanic day laborers making their dough shoveling out driveways and sidewalks. Only Waldbaums is open and that isn't necessarily great (if any New Yorkers know what I mean). Hot chocolate and Willie Wonka movie. But he knows to pout when 1300hrs changes from Roald Dahl to Roger Goodell.

narciso

Well how long did the Frank Costello, I mean
Whitey Bulger/Connelly corruption go on for, twenty, thirty years. That they sent the lead
prosecutor, Durham, after the CIA interrogators suggest who they really think is the enemy

clarice

Heh, OL.
Venkman what are you smoking. I believe the evidence indicates that this anti-Israeli translator leaked stuff and put his special sauce on it to damage AIPAC and the AIPAC defendants just prior to their trial and also to keep Harman from getting her rightful chairmanship which is now held by a certified moron who doesn't know intelligence from the gents room.

Rick, the stench is unmistakable. Is it possible that the FBI houses the largest collection of dopes in the US or is there a double agent high up? Just asking. It is hard to conceive of such stupidity being pure coincidence.

Howard Venk man

"Clarice Feldman, blogging for the Neoconservative front Pajamas Media, has claimed that the government’s case against Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman, two former AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) employees who are being charged with espionage is “preposterous,” “nonsensical,” “silly” and that the “Department of Justice is stupid to continue it.” In her piece entitled “The Justice Department’s Misbegotten AIPAC Prosecution,” Feldman argues that she sees no point for the case to go to trial since the passing of classified documents between high level officials and lobbyists in Washington happens all of the time.

Feldman is probably correct that the passing of classified documents is a common occurrence in Washington. She should, however, be more honest with her readers and admit that this trial could quickly unravel and shine a light on a very ugly subject that everyone in America is afraid to talk about for fear of being called an “antisemite.”

Feldman was barely able to get through the first page of her article without bringing up the well-worn shield of antisemitism. She claims that the FBI official who spearheaded the AIPAC investigation may have targeted Rosen and Weissman because they are Jewish. But when you consider the amount of times that agents of Israel have been caught spying on America, the fact that there have been relatively few convictions and the government’s feet-dragging on this case, one gets the feeling that this alleged “antisemitism” is more like “special treatment.”

With the recent withdrawl of Obama’s appointee of the National Intelligence Council, Charles Freeman has stirred up interest in the AIPAC case as Feldman mentioned in her column, and ultimately the America Jewish lobby in general. Freeman calls out one the AIAPC trial defendee, Steve Rosen, for leading the witch hunt that forced him to withdraw from the post. And while groups like the Anti-Defamation League will continue to deny that there is a such thing as an Israel lobby, we will most likely continue to see more and more articles like these as the problem of Israel are exposed for all Americans to finally see."

Exactly, Frau. Who at State hired him and why?

How convenint to get Harman bumped as Chair of the Intel committee and that moron put in in her place--just as Nancy was allowing Maxine Waters to campaign against her in her own district (unheard of) AND the AIPAC case was about to go to trial.

Also convenient.

Ignatz,

Here's a good Mauldin piece which complements the piece from Ritholz's blog which you cited the other day. He writes of a debate with Professor Jeremy Siegel of Wharton who anticipates a sharp rebound based upon analysis of the aftermath of previous recessions.

I lean towards Mauldin's POV regarding deleveraging. I think it's going to be The Big Squeeze for 3-4 years and its going to hit the Muddle hard enough to wake them up. At least for a moment.

All is ready for the colored cream cheese frosting and sugar decorations with our daughter... and we just skyped with our son who sent pictures of the Caribbean sunset and island mountains.
