Chris Matthews has a brief lapse during which he does not see everything through a prism of race. Must be disorienting for a liberal:
"He is post-racial by all appearances. You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour. You know, he's gone a long way to become a leader of this country and passed so much history in just a year or two."
Too bad - being historically black is one of the few campaign promises Obama has kept. And time will tell! Obama was black when his approval rating was near 70; now that it is 49 Matthews can't remember his race; and if it dips into the low 30's, Matthews will see a blond surfer from Hawaii.
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT HIS PROBLEM WITH CIGARETTES:
Embattled Obama declares in speech, 'I don't quit'
One day, maybe soon, Matthews' head will explode on TV. Remember, you heard it hear first.

I Forgot to Remember to Forget [Mark Steyn]
I won't pretend to be as up to speed on this stuff as the racial obsessives of the Left, but, if Chris Matthews had really forgotten President Obama was black, wouldn't he have forgotten that he'd forgotten?

Howard Zinn, R.I.P. [John J. Miller]
The left-wing popular historian has died. Unless something else comes out, his contribution to a symposium in The Nation on Year One of the Age of Obama will be his final public utterance:
I think people are dazzled by Obama's rhetoric, and that people ought to begin to understand that Obama is going to be a mediocre president.

Zinn was a dishonest propagandist. RIP

Who looks through a prism of race?
It seems the liberals are snickering about the "diversity" of the people sitting behind Gov. McDonnell in his response to the SOTU. They imagine that McDonnell found different skin colors and genders to "look diverse."
Well according to Rich Lowry :
McDonnell is taking flak on the left for the diversity of the people sitting behind him tonight. See Daily Kos here, for instance. Iām told that in the offending screen-shot:
The white woman is Janet Polarek ā Secretary of the Commonwealth
Above her is Jim Cheng ā Secretary of Commerce and Trade
The soldier is Staff Sargeant Robert Tenpenny, who served with Jeanine McDonnell in Iraq.
Above him is Lisa Hick-Thomas ā Secretary of Administration
The Secretaries are all McDonnell Cabinet members.

I forgot he was black before I knew him.
Has anyone else ever noticed how the left wants us all to understand how tolerant they are of race? Why all the reminders? Guilt.
They are always, it seems, the first to bring up race and then blame the right for never giving it the same consideration. Why give it consideration at all (unless of course you are a guilt ridden lefty)?

Matthews remark is truly one of the most telling remarks I've ever heard. And it completely illustrates the liberal mindset. Liberals like Obama because he is black. That's the entire point of the adoration.
BTW I heard a moonbat characterize Matthews remarks as "the republican mindset".

At least he's black.

was his leg tingling? Could this be the start of something big between Chrissie and Barry?
Posted by: matt | January 28, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Gee if he'd said that President Obama was "clean" and "articulate" he could be VP today. Maybe he's angling for a cabinet post.

It looks Matthews is 'walking the cat, back or something'
Posted by: narciso | January 28, 2010 at 01:39 PM
I never think of President Obama as black. I see him for his character and dislike that. Michelle Obama is different. I see her photographed among black children constantly and it reminds me that she feels blacks have a responsibility to favor "their community." I dislike her for her character, too.

Jerome David "J. D." Salinger dead
.. reportedly from complications from a broken bone .. no just kidding, but he is dead
Posted by: Neo | January 28, 2010 at 03:02 PM
Wow, Zinn and then Salinger. Not that they have much to do with each other really, but it feels like the end of an era.
Salinger has been a recluse for so long it almost seems hard to believe he was still alive.

Couldn't NBC fire Matthews on the grounds of banality?
Posted by: glasater | January 28, 2010 at 03:44 PM
Yarrrrrrgh.
Matthews' comment is even more condescending than Biden's famous remark at the beginning of the 2008 campaign.

Unfortunately, Matthews is sane and moderate compared to Olbermann.
MSNBC ... what a bunch of left-wing nuts.

My neighbor is all thrilled with Obama just because he is mixed race. He lived overseas many years and thinks all cultures but his own are charming (I meant my neighbor, but it also speaks of Obama!).
What kills me about Obama is that he was raised by his white grandparents and lived a privileged life in Hawaii. How is that exotic, or some kind of "authentic black life"? Heck, he even had some privileged old white guy write his book for him. What a con, and what a bunch of people primed to be conned.
Posted by: Janet | January 28, 2010 at 05:06 PM
He had a privileged life with all the benefits of Affirmative Action. Quite a racket if you can get it.

Hey now, at one time his single mom was on public assistance! While she was getting her Ph.D., of course (they never mention that).
Boy that is true solidarity with all the other welfare-dependent families out there, isn't it? Gentrified slumming while pursuing an advanced anthropology degree. Doesn't it just break your heart?
(I do feel sorry for the young fatherless Barry, though, honestly. Being schlepped around the world with mom and whatever "exotic" man she was dating at the time was probably not the funnest life in the world.)

Yeah well lucky us; we get to deal with the residue from those Wonder Years. Not to mention when whining Barry cut into Stanley Ann's whoring around so much she sent him packing back to her parents.
Posted by: Captain Hate | January 28, 2010 at 07:35 PM
Yeah well a few years before my mother worked 3 jobs and got her masters without any public assistance.
My mother worked hard and his mother gamed the system. It's the same thing that is going on now. Those of us who worked hard and honestly for our entire lives are being forced to pay for all the people who felt their lives were better spent writing poetry, doing drugs or bitching. It truly pisses me off.
Posted by: Jane | January 28, 2010 at 07:47 PM
Howard Zinn must not have been an historian. An historian would never purposely omit facts that contradicted his thesis; he would revise his thesis to fit known facts.

And a guy who did all three things ended up as our POS President. It really sucks.

sbw-
There has been a change in the definition of "Historian".
Were you not paying attention?
I believe Cato got the first copy of the memo. I have mine here someplace, I'll root around for it in a sec. Unless my editor got to it first...

I've been thinking about this ever since DoT's remark erlier tonight--with clowns like Clinton and Obam you can really see the effect of the absence of a make figure in the life of boys. Neither of these men fit any reasonable definition of manliness, do they?

Well he may be right because it's obvious Obama already wants to "Hang Five".
The 5 being:
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr., Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Anthony Kennedy.
Posted by: daddy | January 28, 2010 at 10:22 PM
I was treated like $#!+ growing up and didn't have half the advantages that Obama did. Doing it on my own instilled the conservative values that I adhere to today (bootstraps and all that). So, I really don't get why Barry wants to destroy the country that gave him so much - if anything, he should be extremely grateful for all the 'gifts' he has received.
Was it Shakespeare who said "Sharper than a serpent's tooth is an ungrateful child"? That defines the O to a "T"

Yahoo has this story up on their front page.
There's a big picture of Chrissy and Bam-Bam over the headline, "Do Blacks Really Want to Transcend Race?"
You know, for I while there, I forgot Chris Matthews was black.
