i just caught bits and pieces. On the way home from work, and then on and off on the radio....
He circled around to health care several times. He sounded more and more like Hugo Chavez....
He announced a doubling of exports in 5 years. Of what, may I ask, since we have lost manufacturing and are shutting down NASA and turning off the technology spigot on a massive scale.Rutabagas? dirt?
Free college for everone so we can compete with the Indians.and he'll pay the tuition of all public sector drones.

So, apparently the Supreme's aren't too hip on Barry either. He's gonna totally isolate himself politically. It must be a little harder to bully folks in Washinton than he and Rahm are used to.

I just read Reagan's first SOTU speech. He did remind everyone about the last decade, he did blame government for it. But it didn't read as Reagan blaming Carter, but government in general. http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan's_First_State_of_the_Union_Speech>Reagan's First Speech

I just read Reagan's first SOTU speech.
Reagan usually did a good job of challenging Liberalism or "government" rather than individuals. Which I think is a great idea.

The case never involved the section banning contributions from foreign corporations..those still remain illegal.

Rick-
Still trying to figure out how Obama is going to double in 5 years US exports. That would be about 1.7 Trillion dollars, unless of course, he wants to cut the dollar in half from its already low level. And wouldn't he be advised to stop with the low-level trade war he is kicking up with China if he wants to get a trade agenda passed. Today he put trade tarrifs on Chinese made electric blankets.

Ignatz-
Was it really as bad as it sounds?
I might not be the most objective, but even looking at it for just the theater, it didn't work. He "worked the crowd" for applause lines and on the meater parts of the speech he was begging, not leading. It wasn't a speech that I would expect a President to give if he were serious about regaining political capital or relaunching his agenda.
It rambled on for 20 minutes too long. It was a grab bag of catch phrases. It was all things to all people-nuclear power, end DADT, Blaming Bush for the deficit in his first year, and a skeletal industrial policy (which appears to only be the slogan) "we will double our exports in 5 years."
Posted by: RichatUF | January 28, 2010 at 12:03 AM
"Still trying to figure out how Obama is going to double in 5 years US exports."
I'm pretty sure that straightening out your sock drawer would provide more intellectual stimulus. His "promise" is an excellent example of the fact that he is, charitably speaking, of mediocre intellect. Not only would he find it impossible to derive the compound growth rate necessary to double exports in five years, he doesn't even realize that what he spouted would require an expansion in port facilities that would take more than five years to design and permit.
Rich - that was Bozo speaking. Bozo just reads, he doesn't think. He doesn't possess the necessary equipment and he has never come close to mastering the elementary equipment that he does possess. He really is a dolt and you have identified as clear an example of his fatuous stupidity as one could hope to see.
That won't keep the credentialed moron class from clapping like trained seals - they're right there in the one oared rowboat with Bozo, wondering why they never seem to get anywhere.

You know, in 1929 when President Roosevelt got on TV he didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, "Look, here's what happened", and the people on Fox News weren't so partisan in their post-speech analysis back then.

He does it smilingly, willingly, and evilly.

on another note-
Bush also inherited the Saddam problem. World's #1 bad guy + horrible inhuman sanctions + no-fly zones only we and the Brits supported anymore. What was supposed to happen there? On top of that, we didn't know about Khan's network or Iran's progress or Libya's program.
Talk about a doozy of an inheritance.
Not to mention the Intifada and Arafat.

Here's a nice little description of something familiar, from a blogger I'm apparently not allowed to link to (WTF, TypePad?) via Vodkapundit:
Suddenly, another voice spoke, low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment. Those who listened unwarily to that voice could seldom report the words that they heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves. When others spoke, they seemed harsh and uncouth by contrast; and if they gainsaid the voice, anger was kindled in the hearts of those under the spell. For some the spell only lasted while the voice spoke to them, and when it spoke to another they smiled, as men do who see through a juggler’s trick while others gape at it. For many the sound of the voice alone was enough to hold them enthralled; but for those whom it conquered the spell endured when they were far away, and ever they heard that soft voice whispering and urging them.
That's from The Two Towers. Did Tolkien ever visit Kenya?

That Community College business is something to keep an eye on. The one here in Northern Virginia is full of promoters of SDS, La Raza, all kinds of Muslim groups,...
I took a motorcycle riding coarse there, and the halls were lined with bulletin boards and pamphlets promoting those groups. ACORN recruiting grounds? It sure had that feel.
