Petulant adolescent has less than three years left in office.

PD

"The Board of Directors of Chevron Corporation declared a quarterly dividend of sixty-eight cents ($0.68) per share."

Those evil scum. I expect Our President to declare war on them immediately.

Dave (in MA)

The KOSsacks are whining at Justice Alito for shaking his head at Jughead insult.

Melinda Romanoff

Soylent-

It was the house Jefferson designed, not Davis' little ego trip that killed more Americans than any other foe could, to date.

Melinda Romanoff

That's enough for me.

G'night all.

JM Hanes

I thought putting McConnell in a similar "Congressional" setting was a terrific idea.

Dave (in MA)

The Huffers have some video.

JM Hanes

It was a great speech, aside from the bullshit.

peter

Alito shook his head from side to side. I don't really have a problem with that.

clarice

Chris Matthews did say that. He is of course insane. I think its requirement to be nuts to work for MSNBC

i just caught bits and pieces. On the way home from work, and then on and off on the radio....

He circled around to health care several times. He sounded more and more like Hugo Chavez....

He announced a doubling of exports in 5 years. Of what, may I ask, since we have lost manufacturing and are shutting down NASA and turning off the technology spigot on a massive scale.Rutabagas? dirt?

Free college for everone so we can compete with the Indians.and he'll pay the tuition of all public sector drones.

Those dam earmarks and spending....zzzzzzzz....

Pofarmer

So, apparently the Supreme's aren't too hip on Barry either. He's gonna totally isolate himself politically. It must be a little harder to bully folks in Washinton than he and Rahm are used to.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Via Malkin:

Another scorching response to SOTU from Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito:

POLITICO’s Kasie Hunt, who’s in the House chamber, reports that Justice Samuel Alito mouthed the words “not true” when Obama criticized the Supreme Court’s campaign finance decision…The shot of the black-robed Supreme Court justices, stone faced, was priceless. Chuck Schumer stood up behind the justices and clapped vigorously while Alito shook his head and quietly mouthed his discontent.

Allah’s got the vid.

Rob Crawford

He announced a doubling of exports in 5 years. Of what, may I ask

Illegal immigrants? We're running a surplus on those.

Sue

I just read Reagan's first SOTU speech. He did remind everyone about the last decade, he did blame government for it. But it didn't read as Reagan blaming Carter, but government in general. http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan's_First_State_of_the_Union_Speech>Reagan's First Speech

JM Hanes

He never honored his guests did he? Just a shout out to Michele.

MikeS

I just read Reagan's first SOTU speech.

Reagan usually did a good job of challenging Liberalism or "government" rather than individuals. Which I think is a great idea.

PD

Anyone decoded the meaning of Matthews' remark yet?

At the very least, it sounds like he's still obsessed with race.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Via Instapundit:

You know, one could argue that President Bush “inherited” Al Qaeda from Bill Clinton, who did little-to-nothing in response to all of Al Qaeda’s provocations throughout the 1990’s and unto the USS Cole bombing. But never, not once, did Bush ever say, “I inherited this…” It’s time for Obama to become a man.
JM Hanes

Word Count: 7,134

Shorter Alito: "You Lie!"

Dave (in MA)

Maybe he was afraid of another Joe Medicine Crow moment.

RichatUF

JM Hanes-

It doesn't appear he did. But it was nice to know that M'chel is going to make sure you child isn't a fattie.

JM Hanes

Shorter Matthews: "Wow, he could be white!"

JM Hanes

Bush also inherited an exploding dot.com bubble, but you never heard blaming Clinton for that either.

clarice

Alito was right of course. once again our constitutional scholar is just lying or winging it.

Probably thought a case that didn't involve quantum physics was beneath him.

The case never involved the section banning contributions from foreign corporations..those still remain illegal.

Pofarmer

It’s time for Obama to become a man.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

Rick Ballard

"M'chel is going to make sure you child isn't a fattie."

I don't think that Lose Weight The Wookie Way is going to catch on. She should stick to poisoning kids with vegetables from the WH lead mine.

Fact check SOTU

Captain Hate

Chris Matthews did say that. He is of course insane. I think its requirement to be nuts to work for MSNBC

I could be wrong about this (because after all we're dealing with very unprofessional people) but I got the impression that Bathtub Boy and Madcow were even shocked or embarrassed by that.

Ignatz

Spent the last two hours watching the last half of that anti-commie movie bgates referenced and the season opener of Psych.

Excellent job of paraphrasing and simultaneous editorializing rich.
Was it really as bad as it sounds?

--He announced a doubling of exports in 5 years. Of what, may I ask, since we have lost manufacturing and are shutting down NASA and turning off the technology spigot on a massive scale.Rutabagas? dirt?--

Jobs, silly.

JM Hanes

Jeez, I can't stand these after action focus groups. They're everywhere! When I want to know what the average Joe thinks, I can just think.

RichatUF

Rick-

Still trying to figure out how Obama is going to double in 5 years US exports. That would be about 1.7 Trillion dollars, unless of course, he wants to cut the dollar in half from its already low level. And wouldn't he be advised to stop with the low-level trade war he is kicking up with China if he wants to get a trade agenda passed. Today he put trade tarrifs on Chinese made electric blankets.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vjnjagvet

I don't think that Lose Weight The Wookie Way is going to catch on. She should stick to poisoning kids with vegetables from the WH lead mine.

Yeah, lead poisoning ought to thin the little ba***s down.

JM Hanes

I think he'll get a bump from the speech, but I'm sure he'll be able to fix that.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

MSNBC hack Chris Matthews says he forgot for an hour that Barack Obama was black.

Does this mean that Tweety is going to stop being a racist?

MikeS

I'm dreaming about zipping over to Indonesia to help 'em tear down that statue.

Barry Dauphin

SOTU in brief: Washington sucks, and we can't do anything well even when we spend like drunken sailors. So my idea is that you should send us more money. Thank you.

RichatUF

Ignatz-

Was it really as bad as it sounds?

I might not be the most objective, but even looking at it for just the theater, it didn't work. He "worked the crowd" for applause lines and on the meater parts of the speech he was begging, not leading. It wasn't a speech that I would expect a President to give if he were serious about regaining political capital or relaunching his agenda.

It rambled on for 20 minutes too long. It was a grab bag of catch phrases. It was all things to all people-nuclear power, end DADT, Blaming Bush for the deficit in his first year, and a skeletal industrial policy (which appears to only be the slogan) "we will double our exports in 5 years."

Rick Ballard

"Still trying to figure out how Obama is going to double in 5 years US exports."

I'm pretty sure that straightening out your sock drawer would provide more intellectual stimulus. His "promise" is an excellent example of the fact that he is, charitably speaking, of mediocre intellect. Not only would he find it impossible to derive the compound growth rate necessary to double exports in five years, he doesn't even realize that what he spouted would require an expansion in port facilities that would take more than five years to design and permit.

Rich - that was Bozo speaking. Bozo just reads, he doesn't think. He doesn't possess the necessary equipment and he has never come close to mastering the elementary equipment that he does possess. He really is a dolt and you have identified as clear an example of his fatuous stupidity as one could hope to see.

That won't keep the credentialed moron class from clapping like trained seals - they're right there in the one oared rowboat with Bozo, wondering why they never seem to get anywhere.

G'night, Ladies and Gents, Dave has left the building!

Ann

Well, let's face it. The biggest, bold lie he told tonight was that Michelle is "shy".

Photobucket

A sure sign your husband is in trouble is when you show up with a strand of pearls!

You may quote me on that. :)

JM Hanes

I just can't get over his assault on the Supreme Court.

Dave (in MA)

You know, in 1929 when President Roosevelt got on TV he didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, "Look, here's what happened", and the people on Fox News weren't so partisan in their post-speech analysis back then.

ROA

If exports are going to double in 5 years, they need to grow at an annual rate of almost 15%.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Michelle was sitting with the heroes of Fort Hood and Obama couldn't take a minute from his self-adulation and demagoguery to even acknowledge their presence.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Obama admin removes Hamas members from terrorist list. Why?

matt

I have a close family member who, though I love them, is a hopelessly committed ultraliberal Dem. She posted a few comments this evening that were, in light of the state of the Democratic Party, shocking. if that is what their partisans think, whoa boy!

Ann

I just can't get over his assault on the Supreme Court.

He assaults America daily, JMH. He doesn't believe in the Constitution or Liberty or America.

He was poking them in the eye, like he pokes us every chance he gets.

He does it smilingly, willingly, and evilly.

PD

Michelle was sitting with the heroes of Fort Hood and Obama couldn't take a minute from his self-adulation and demagoguery to even acknowledge their presence.

They were there so they could feel honored to listen to him, not to be honored by him.

MayBee

When I want to know what the average Joe thinks, I can just think.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

on another note-
Bush also inherited the Saddam problem. World's #1 bad guy + horrible inhuman sanctions + no-fly zones only we and the Brits supported anymore. What was supposed to happen there? On top of that, we didn't know about Khan's network or Iran's progress or Libya's program.
Talk about a doozy of an inheritance.

Not to mention the Intifada and Arafat.

Ann

This is what we should of been listening to tonight:

Che Obama

Night All.

bgates

Here's a nice little description of something familiar, from a blogger I'm apparently not allowed to link to (WTF, TypePad?) via Vodkapundit:

Suddenly, another voice spoke, low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment. Those who listened unwarily to that voice could seldom report the words that they heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves. When others spoke, they seemed harsh and uncouth by contrast; and if they gainsaid the voice, anger was kindled in the hearts of those under the spell. For some the spell only lasted while the voice spoke to them, and when it spoke to another they smiled, as men do who see through a juggler’s trick while others gape at it. For many the sound of the voice alone was enough to hold them enthralled; but for those whom it conquered the spell endured when they were far away, and ever they heard that soft voice whispering and urging them.

That's from The Two Towers. Did Tolkien ever visit Kenya?

Pofarmer

Details! Don't tease, that could go either way.

Janet

That Community College business is something to keep an eye on. The one here in Northern Virginia is full of promoters of SDS, La Raza, all kinds of Muslim groups,...
I took a motorcycle riding coarse there, and the halls were lined with bulletin boards and pamphlets promoting those groups. ACORN recruiting grounds? It sure had that feel.

sbw

If we can get through to the next election with a minimum of damage because of our currently elected officials it will be an astounding tribute to the resiliency of the Constitution created by our founding fathers.

Rob Crawford

Did Tolkien ever visit Kenya?

He was born in South Africa. More importantly, he was a wise student of history and man.
