Reading letters from children asking why they have to move from home? Did Harry Reid's kids write to him?

That Washington is a dastardly being.
It hasn't solved problems, and it is in our President's way.

One of the most difficult years in our HISTORY?
Posted by: MayBee | January 27, 2010 at 09:17 PM
I don't think I've ever seen anyone mail it in for a SOTU.

History Lesson and cadence, JMH. :)
Posted by: Ann | January 27, 2010 at 09:17 PM
Obama likes to read from his left. Reminds me of a horse I once had. She favored the left side too. Turned on a dime that way but shied away from turning right. Barrell racing was fun.
Posted by: Sue | January 27, 2010 at 09:17 PM
He's hatemongering.
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:18 PM
Who writes a letter to the president to ask why he has to move? Give me a break.

is it over yet?

Heh. FOX just brought up some bumper music briefly. I guess they're ready for a commercial.
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:19 PM
I have an idea. Let's all gather in front of the White House and chant "Death To America". That way Obama will feel the love.
Posted by: matt | January 27, 2010 at 09:20 PM
I'm surprised to hear him bring out folksy cadence tonight.
Posted by: MayBee | January 27, 2010 at 09:20 PM
MO's outfit.
From the back she looks like a ripe plum.
Posted by: caro | January 27, 2010 at 09:20 PM
So he is going with "hating the bank bailout"?
I wouldn't just what was popular, I'd also do what was necessary. Supported the previous administration, but made it better (shhh. don't tell anyone that Treasury wrote off the UAW's bailout of 55 billion). More taxes on banks? Yea, lets tax people trying to use their money.
Posted by: RichatUF | January 27, 2010 at 09:20 PM
He is a tax cutter! (oh, they are all on welfare).
Posted by: centralcal | January 27, 2010 at 09:21 PM
So he admits a huge Democratic majority in the House, the same in the Senate, and a Dem president is not a government worthy of our "decency and strength."
Posted by: Elliott | January 27, 2010 at 09:21 PM
We cut taxes. 25 "tax cuts"...humm rebates.
Where is the applause?
Posted by: RichatUF | January 27, 2010 at 09:22 PM
Let me know when we get any private sector jobs.
Posted by: Dave (in MA) | January 27, 2010 at 09:22 PM
That "not raised taxes by a single dime" claim is one he gave last year -- right before raising the cigarette tax, much of which is borne by those making less than $250K.
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:23 PM
I think when most Americans think taxes, they think income taxes and withholding, not some tax credit they may or may not get depending on the criteria.

Jobs must be the focus and that is why I am calling for a new jobs bill tonight (but I thought the last one did so well?).
America's businesses...but government can create conditions for business to thrive...blah, blah, blah...more porkulus...I want to take $30 billion from TARP and shovel it to my cronies in community banks to loan to small businesses...ohh more tax cuts...and of course "the infrastructure of tomorrow"...green jobs bullshit...
Posted by: RichatUF | January 27, 2010 at 09:28 PM
I can't watch this pitiful excuse for a leader spout lies. I will rely on clearer minds (here on JOM) to report on the stinkbomb.
I wish the Republicans would have the guts to laugh, hysterically; when he continues with his self-adulation and pretense. What he is saying is that he isn't up to the job, and it's not really "good to be the king".
I get nauseous when I think he is our CIC.

Hm, wasn't there something like 55 months in a row of jobs growth under Bush?

Close those loopholes and tax breaks that ship jobs overseas...yea...Senate pass a jobs bill...I want a
healthcarejobs bill without delay.Long term growth, we cannot afford another expansion like the one we had last decade (?)...a new foundation...China is not waiting, Germany is not waiting...serious investments in clean energy...math and science...

Posted by: Dave (in MA) | January 27, 2010 at 09:32 PM
Did you ever for one second contemplate that a US president would implore us to catch up with Germany and India?
And if you don't accept second place Mr. President why have you done everything possible to get us there?
Posted by: Jane | January 27, 2010 at 09:32 PM
I guess his non-acceptance of second place explains why he put us 4th.
Posted by: Elliott | January 27, 2010 at 09:33 PM
The stars are aligned for a jobs bill.

Jane, Had to change the channel, the not so little one, was beginning to use words she is not supposed to say. Of course, they were certainly not inappropriate.
The pointing the finger thing is really getting to her.

Nuclear power plants. My my. Oil and gas development? Sarah Palin must have spooked him.
Posted by: Jane | January 27, 2010 at 09:36 PM
These repeated references to the failure of "Washington" to "get serious" and address the problems facing us are odious and reprehensible. Mr. President, you've been in office a year. Are you saying that you've been doing nothing all that time? You can't blame the past without us noticing that you're part of it.

I get it now. "Green energy" jobs, that have to be heavily subsidized with our taxes, will grow the economy.
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:38 PM
Yeah, Sue, 25 minutes of defending your signature initiative that passed last year can't be a good thing to have to do.

I like the plan to export things.
Posted by: MayBee | January 27, 2010 at 09:40 PM
Serious financial reform...strong health financial market...if we guard against the same recklessness of the past decade...we cannot let them (bankers, special interests) win...encourage innovation-energy...batteries and solar panels, building safe clean nuclear plants, opening offshore oil and gas, comprehensive energy and climate bill (cap-and-tax)...overwhelming evidence on climate change...so we have to go back to a 19th Century energy policy...more exports (?)...a new goal to double our exports (shhhh. that ought to kill the dollar), a national export innotiative...something about a trade bill and "playing by the rules"...bring up Doha...invest in the skills of our people and shovel more money into our schools...
Posted by: RichatUF | January 27, 2010 at 09:40 PM

Can we export Obama, permanently?
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:43 PM
Good grief. No one should go broke period. It isn't fun. But where does it stop? We can't be broke because of medical needs. We can't be broke because of college. We can't be broke because of housing.
Posted by: Sue | January 27, 2010 at 09:44 PM
Community colleges are very good, but the problem with people without college degrees not getting good jobs isn't going to be solved by sending everybody to college.
Don't like this public service debt forgiveness thing. Why is the manager of the driver's license bureau more important than a doctor or an engineer?
Posted by: MayBee | January 27, 2010 at 09:44 PM
His take over of the student loan industry, shoveling money into community colleges, and Biden's report on middle-class families (wonder if Rev. Wright might have contributed)...step up refi's to make housing more affordable...still need health insurance reform...Let's clear some things up...I didn't take it up because it was good politics...
YOU LIE!!!

On to the Bush bashing.

"The massive fiscal hole in which we find ourselves."
Yeah, in which we find ourselves. Like you and this Congress had nothing to do with it. It just sort of happened while we weren't looking.
Posted by: PD | January 27, 2010 at 09:50 PM
Wait - he had 25 tax cuts so how can he say the 2 Bush passed were wrong? Hmmmm
Posted by: Jane | January 27, 2010 at 09:50 PM
Maybee-
//The US is the world's largest exporter. Oil and dollarized global trade is the reason why we have such a high trade imbalance.//
He's still droning on about healthcare. My plan is better, so stop complaining...let us come together and get it done...government spending...setting the record straight...blaming the Bush Administration...2 wars, tax cuts...it ain't my fault...
Posted by: RichatUF | January 27, 2010 at 09:50 PM
If I didn't hate Obama before, and I did, I hate him now. I detest this fool.

These deficits occurred "Before I walked in the door..." says the guy who sat in Congress, where the budgets are written and passed.
Posted by: MayBee | January 27, 2010 at 09:52 PM
We'll have a freeze on government spending. Except for all these exemptions, which means this is just another one of my empty, meaningless rhetorical tricks.

I didn't think Harry was that intelligent.
Posted by: daddy | January 27, 2010 at 09:55 PM
Spending freeze...programs that don't work (Americorps and Head Start)...more taxes...massive deficit when I took office...bi-partisian fiscal commission (and sign an executive order stepping on Congress regarding the budget process)...something about budget surpluses in the 1990's...freeze takes place next year...a strawman argument of his opponents...tax cuts...that is what brought us here...that is what caused the crisis...let us invest in people...a deficit trust...
