The spectacle of this young, inexperienced poseur lecturing members of Congress on how to do things as though he's the repository of all wisdom is breathtaking.

My goodness - who on earth is buying this? Twice this audience has laughed at him. I've never seen that in a SOTU before.

He can't have just said something about catchy headlines and constant campaigning did he?

So I saw on the corner that he's planning to double exports in five years.
Is he counting T-Bills in that?

He really is the king of projection - you know precisely what he is worried about is what he belittles.
Posted by: Jane | January 27, 2010 at 10:03 PM
is there some sort of special pixie dust they sprinkle on Obama worshipers? The guy has always struck me narcissistic and sleazy in his sales schtick, but how the heck did a majority of voters find him at all appealing. Now, detest is not a strong enough word.

There is a Jewish superstition regarding the evil eye. To ward off the evil eye, you spit three times on your fingertips, then wave them in the air; throw salt; say, in Yiddish, kayn aynhoreh ("no evil eye")
I suspect for the next few decades there will be a similar tradition to ward off Liberalism. "Kayn Obama" we will say. We will also do the spitting and the salt thing.
Of course we'll only use one finger.

Yep, long and informative. Smith at one point states that we (US) know of definitive ties between Saddam and Al Qaeda. Has this ever been established for certain and published anywhere to the best of your knowledge? Thanks for the heads up on the article.

Thanks guys for the blow-by-blow of self-fellating; I was listening to music rather than get taken in by this gifted orator (as Michael Medved continues witlessly to describe him). Although when I came down to take Maggie the airedale out for her final walk of agitating the neighborhood curs, I heard our Mongrel-in-Chief come out with the howler of "standing on the side of liberty". That must've been very comforting to the Iranians and Hondurans who have no idea WTF that was about except abject betrayal.

Judging by the comments, I see that I was wise to follow my usual practice and not listen to or watch major speeches. (I've found that I almost always do better when I read the transcript later, and that's usually easy to do now, thanks to the Internet.)
I do sometimes watch these speeches if I want to judge the political stagecraft, rather than try to make sense of a speaker's arguments.
But I do have one question for all of you who did watch: How was Pelosi behaving? Usual cheerleader performance? Or more muted?
I ask that because I am beginning to wonder whether Pelosi is having second thoughts about Obama.
