Ignatz

Considering the ass kicking being described here I'm kind of thinking this is probably the end of Barry and the Dems' "transparency".
Get ready for a full scale backdoor Chicago style deal being rammed through or at least the attempt.
I think they're too stupid and corrupt to do otherwise.

Extraneus

Love the narcisolator. I didn't realize it gets rid of the avatars. That's great bgates.

SunnyDay

Look at their faces! This is too good to be true.

I do hope the house reps can stop the CIA mess. Always have to watch his other hand. grrrrrr.

Jane

McCain talking about reconciliation - "the elephant in the room" good for him.

Janet

McCain highlighting the great state of Texas!
Tort reform is already working there.
Brings up the reconciliation cheating procedure.

Clarice

Yes, SunnyDay,the one described the evils of allowing people to pick their own insurance by explaining how he'd bought basic state required insurance for his post college clunker and was furious when it didn't cover someone hitting HIS car.
(I should have been more specific than he was.)

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Via Gateway Pundit:

The Times of London says that Obama bores America into submission.

laura

You know, the dems may just make McCain so angry that the famous temper may finally be turned in the right direction.

Sue

What the hell do they think insurance is? I can't understand how someone as "smart" as Obama is doesn't understand liability, comprehensive, and underinsured insurance. Texas has a minimum on the liability, $25,000 but if you are worth more, and need more, it is available. It just costs more.

Which brings me to pre-existing conditions. How can an insurance company offer insurance for pre-existing conditions? I go back to home owner's insurance. I don't want to purchase it until my house burns down. Someone, besides Obama, will have to explain the pre-existing thing to me and how that is supposed to work.

Extraneus

Anyone know how the lefty blogs are taking this? Do they think their heroes are kicking ass like they did last time?

anduril

From the British article that I linked--the idea being that Argentina actually has a strong claim and that Britain should do the right thing and submit this to mediation. ALL of Latin America--including Brazil, which is on the verge of becoming a true superpower (and a nuclear one, to boot)--so this Administration is doing the right thing by refusing to back neo-colonialism:

"No one really knows who first discovered the Falklands. Pro-Argentine academics suggest Italian-born explorer Amerigo Vespucci, discovered the islands as early as 1501; pro-British historians make the case for the English explorers John Davis (1592) and Sir Richard Hawkins (1594), while many scholars say the only conclusively documented discovery was by the Dutchman Sebald de Weert in 1600. All agree that what is now known as East Falkland was first settled by the French in 1764. The French ceded control of the island to Spain in 1767.

"A year after the French landed, the British established a settlement at Port Egmont on West Falkland, but abandoned the territory in 1774. Spain maintained a presence on the Falklands until 1811. The newly independent United Provinces of the Río de la Plata (which included Argentina) believed that Spanish possessions should revert to them and in 1820 sent a ship to the abandoned Falklands. In 1829, Argentina appointed a governor. The British then sent two warships to the Falklands and struck the Argentine flag. Argentina, impoverished and divided, did not have the means to resist.

"The British case, in recent times, has focused on its peaceful occupation of the islands for the last 177 years and the self-determination of the Falkland islanders. Argentina maintains that the islands were illegally annexed by Britain in 1833 and remain to this day a colony, an anachronism in the 21st century. A 1965 United Nations resolution backs, to some extent, the Argentine position by ruling that the principle of decolonisation applies to the Falklands.

"This week the 32 nations of Latin America unanimously backed Argentina in the recent dispute over oil because for most developing nations it is a simple question of colonialism. Britain may not have formally colonized much of Latin America, but as the world's preeminent power in the 19th century, its bankers and merchants had a stranglehold on the new nations' economies. In 1824, George Canning wrote of Latin American independence: "Spanish America is free, and if we do not mismanage our affairs sadly, she is English."

Janet

Obama now sucking up to the Republicans ..hates the losers he is with.

Dick Durbin up now. Ewwwwwww Proudly said he used to sue doctors. Brings up victims. Mole on face anecdote....involved fire. Doesn't want tort reform.

Jane

They exclude themselves from the health care bill and then Durbin says not passing it is discrimination because we deserve the coverage they exclude themselves from.

Janet

Did Obama ever let Charlie Rangel speak?

Fresh Air

DEAD sister's dentures, Ann. A plan that would handle all the problems of people so unable to manage this system as this is a plan no reasonable person could support.

Well, if ZeroCare passes, we can be sure that there will be more dead people around to cough up their dentures for the indigent.

Buford Gooch

Dang! I thought the narcisolator was supposed to remove trolls. I must have done something wrong.

Janet

Barrasso (R)up now...
(Waxman up next so get your blindfolds ready)

Janet

Well, if ZeroCare passes, we can be sure that there will be more dead people around to cough up their dentures for the indigent.

LOL!! That's the way to be optimistic!

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Anduril you are just being deliberately rude and annoying. Either join the discussion at hand or save your remarks for another thread. No one, TODAY, is interested in Dubai or the Falklands.

bolitha

Ditto, Clarice, re Shep Smith. Ugh!

Janet

Barrasso is good...but he mentions smokers (I am one)so I don't want to get beaten up.

Obama up now...um,um,um,ah,ah,ah,the,the,the,that,um.

narciso

I was thinking, he might be realizing this is how Custer felt, but then he invited them, so he has no excuse

Porchlight

OT,

Has Paterson pulled a Sanford? Josh Robin tweets:

Top Paterson aides and advisors do not know where he is right now, and haven't been able to reach him.
Danube of Thought

I've been unable to stomach Shepard Smith for a number of years now. Just not my kind of man, is the best way I can put it.

MayBee

He's a rainbow in a sea of beige, people.

centralcal

Shep is a man? Who knew? He comes across most of the time as a hysterical betwixt and between, not sure what he is.

Porchlight

It's the tattooed-on eyeliner that gets me every time with Shep.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I think it's Waxman, anyway he's an idiot.

People should be able to choose from a laundry list of coverage. Why should a 60 year old woman have to pay for maternity coverage? Why should someone who does not consume alcohol or drugs have to pay for substance abuse programs? Is the general population in such a psychological mess that everyone has to pay for mental health coverage?

And on and on.

bgates

Buford, you have to tell it who the trolls are. Rick posted a set of instructions on this thread that I seem to remember cover all the particulars.

Always glad to see more happy customers.

centralcal

I think every Republican so far has done an excellent job.

Fresh Air

Bless you all for watching this crap so the rest of us can skip it.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Obama is anxious to get out of there. I wonder if the Repubs would be willing to stay there for hours if something is getting accomplished. Obama only wants to watch the clock.

narciso

Of course, the AP can't buy a clue, if their lives depended on it, in the LUN

Buford Gooch

bgates, when I read the instructions, I thought it said your selections would override mine, and I assumed we knew who the main troll was. I'll fix mine. Thanks.

Dave (in MA)

Countrywide Dodd is drawing an analogy with lawyers.

bgates

When does bunky's shift start? I'm predicting it'll be light on the "exceeded expectations" and heavy on the "shows CNN isn't in the tank for my hero".

Clarice

I love hearing "moral" arguments from that crook Dodd.

Dave (in MA)

bgates, I think Axelrod has him on 3rd shift.

Captain Hate

to my discredit I wasn't willing to go out on a limb and predict that would actually happen. Shame on me!

No shame on you Porch; the Repubs usually screw up any advantage they've stumbled on like a crackheaded kid would plow through an inheritance. Fortunately Michael Steele has been bound and, more importantly, gagged at an undisclosed location; presumably one only accessible to high-priced limos.

Captain Hate

I love hearing "moral" arguments from that crook Dodd.

I was honestly wondering what he could possibly bring to the table that would be regarded as positive or ethical.

bgates

I assumed we knew who the main troll was.

At any one moment in time, perhaps, but every once in a while TM gets a link from Instapundit or lower-traffic but seedier neighborhoods, or people get out of rehab or prison, or Axelrod puts a new guy on a shift - so it varies.

anduril

Bless you all for watching this crap so the rest of us can skip it.

A resounding "Amen!" to that!

BTW, David Ignatius has a pretty good article today about Iranian covert ops in Iraq--including targeted assassinations: Iran's Get Out the Vote Campaign... in Iraq.

According to U.S. intelligence reports, the Iranians two months ago circulated a list of 600 Iraqi officers who are targeted for assassination because of their role in the Iraq-Iran war. Asked what the United States was doing to counter these killings, a commander responded: "We notify people who are on the list."

"The Iranians are everywhere, all over the place -- overtly, covertly, you name it," says a White House official who closely monitors Iraq. "They're putting chips on red and black and whatever is in between."

The best check against these Iranian machinations, U.S. officials believe, is the simple patriotism of the Iraqi people. Opinion polls show that Iran is even more mistrusted by Iraqis than is America. Iranian meddling has backfired in the past, officials say, and they are hoping that will happen again when Iraqis go to the polls.

centralcal

lol, bgates. (and so true)

Clarice

odd's analogy was bunk. You get a lawyer for criminal defense and as he admitted you get hospital care for emergency aid. Seems pretty much the same to me. You are not getting lawyers for house closings or rental agreements.

bgates

I was honestly wondering what he could possibly bring to the table

Any waitress in the joint who's not moving too fast or carrying one of those rape whistles.

that would be regarded as positive or ethical.

Oh, then nothing.

centralcal

O/T - but a great chuckle from AOS-HQ:

"Just got back from Big Lots while making my weekly Arugula and Wagu Beef run and they had a big stack of handsomely boxed limited run Obama commemorative plates for $2. They used to sell for $20+S&H on TV. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Even though they were placed on an endcap at the front of the store, it didn't look like they were moving."

Clarice

Gosh we should buy them and give them to our favorites for birthday presents.

Dave (in MA)

Maybe I can buy some for feeding the cats.

centralcal

Is it just me, or does Sebelius look like she would rather be almost anywhere else but Blair House?

narciso

bunky was on the next thread, over, but now he's gone like the Flying Dutchman, thanks to kill file

Rick Ballard

I wonder how they'd stand up being used in a skeet thrower? Now that would get me out to a skeet club...

Janet

Skeet shooting?

centralcal

Obama is going to end with his 3 pals - rangel, dingle, and murray.

Patty is already getting teary-eyed about a little 11-year old boy.

The Dems sure go for the pathos, don't they?

Janet

Oh no another single mother with 3 kids story...

Rob Crawford

The Dems sure go for the pathos, don't they?

Easier than thinking, I guess.

centralcal

The plates, Janet, the BO plates (skeet shooting).

Janet

Schumer is thinking he would like that little woman up under his armpit!

centralcal

Well, Patty was just brilliant. What lucky state claims her, again?

Janet

Oh yeah centralcal..I just posted at the exact same time as Rick. I was suggesting skeet shooting. HaHa...thanks though.

Rick Ballard

"Skeet shooting?" Trap would be OK as well - I'd love to try a crossing double.

I wonder how much a truckload of those plates would cost? Clays aren't particularly cheap.

Pull!

Clarice

Charlie Tax Cheat Rangel is now shmoozing about helping the poor (using my money, I suppose.)

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Patty Murray with another whopper. If you have health insurance and a job and you get sick and can't work, she says you lose your health insurance and you die. She gives another of their sad stories to back this up.

But, if you are too sick to work, legitimately, there is disability insurance that will pick up the slack for at least a year and if you are so bad after that you can't work, you can apply for permanent social security disability.

She says her constituent lost her job as a manager of a fast food restaurant because she was missing too much work due to illness. My nephew's wife has been a manager at Taco Bell for 10 years and she has taken 6 mo. off three times to have babies, she also took off when she had complications after some minor surgery. She was told that if she couldn't pass the physical to come back, then they would put her on disability and she could take it from there. There are plenty of ways to cover these very problems and no one has to die.

The real problem is those who work 70 hour weeks for a small business at a low hourly rate who do not have employer offered health insurance and who do not earn enough to buy their own and pay their necessary expenses like food, housing, and transportation costs to get to work.

Janet

Rangel up now. Would you let him in your house? Lowlife comes to mind. Same problems as Dodd.
He doesn't want anyone to ask who is the smartest or most patriotic because he knows he would lose that competition.

Dingell up now. He's giving Waxman a run for his money in the looks department.

centralcal

omg - what a motley crew sits on the Democrat side.

Janet

How old is Dingell? Man, this is a sorry lot on the Dem. side. Obama cut him off.
Now Nancy...

centralcal

Oh, wonderful Botoxalot says she is gonna talk alot and then, Obama is gonna "wrap up" with his words.

Janet

LOL centralcal...same thoughts!

Clarice

Pinocchio Pelosi talks about keeping the insurance industry "honest".

Dave (in MA)

John Dingell has been representing the 15th MI since 1933. John Dingell Sr. passed it to his son when he croaked. It's a good thing we don't have royalty in this country.

centralcal

uh oh, Pelosi is calling people out one by one - they look like they are ready to jump her!

Go get her guys!!!

Janet

I don't have enough "courage" to let Nancy Pelosi design/pick my health care.

MTF

Timely note from Cuban doctors, in re nationalized medical care: they hate it, and call themselves "slaves"!

centralcal

Zero says he is gonna take 10 minutes - guess that means about an hour.

glasater

Did I hear Zero say in words to the effect--if the R's go along with or compromise on healthcare the D's won't go the reconciliation route?

Clarice

Dems need to stop talking to dumb losers and start talking to business people and actuaries..

Janet

Reading about Dingell on Wiki...has he ever really lived in Michigan? He grew up in the DC area...went to school in the DC area. We are being led by our worst.

Janet

What state is Obama referring to? Biden's Delaware?

caro

From Politico

...congressional Democrats plan to begin making the case next week for a massive, Democrats-only health-care plan...

I like that idea. No Repubs or independents allowed.

centralcal

lol, caro! A Democrat only health care plan, works for me!

Dave (in MA)

...tick... ...tick... ...tick... DING! Your 10 minutes are up Jughead. Put a sock in it.

Clarice

He cut short the Reps' presentations and then hogged the sum up..Rude.

Clarice

Also rude, as AT notes, everyone calls him Mr President and he calls the Congress folks by their first names.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Early “returns” good for Republicans

CNN’s David Gergen:

The folks in the White House just must be kicking themselves right now. They thought that coming out of Baltimore when the President went in and was mesmerizing and commanding in front of the House Republicans that he could do that again here today. That would revive health care and would change the public opinion about their health care bill and they can go on to victory. Just the opposite has happened

CNN’s Gloria Borger:

The Republicans have been very effective today. They really did come to play. They were very smart.

They took on the substance of a very complex issue. ... But they really stuck to the substance of this issue and tried to get to the heart of it and I think did a very good job.

They came in with a plan. They mapped it out.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer:

It looks like the Republicans certainly showed up ready to play.

The Hill’s A.B. Stoddard:

I think we need to start out by acknowledging Republicans brought their ‘A Team.’ They had doctors knowledgeable about the system, they brought substance to the table, and they, I thought, expressed interest in the reform. I thought in the lecture from Senator John McCain and on the issue of transparency, I thought today the Democrats were pretty much on their knees.

centralcal

Sara: Ann posted that wonderful summary at 3:04 pm.

centralcal

Look at the faces around the table as The Won grandstands. Even on his own side they are tired of him.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Oh, sorry, that was noon my time and I was out. Well it is worth reading again, no?

Dave (in MA)

This Obama Commemorative plate is still going for full price.

Clarice

heh, dave

Porchlight

Yes, I plan to enjoy reading it several more times. :)

Something else I think may have already been posted - Continetti at TWS posted on Ryan vs. Obama with video. If you watch with the sound down and just pay attention to Obama's face as Ryan presents his case, it is hilarious. Obama looks so hopeless up there, as if he can barely even understand what Ryan is saying let alone respond to it.

SunnyDay

There were a couple of camera shots where the dems looked like they were going to throw up.

matt

I prefer sporting clays.I'll bet most shooter's scores would improve with such interesting targets.

Ann

I keep seeing dead people's dentures.

Fresh Air

Here, Ann take these. They're still warm:

Janet

When I think of Ryan on the Republican side, and Dingell on the Democrat side....well, it is just a sad day for Democrats.

Dave (in MA)

After catching the last hour of health care coverage, I flipped on curling to get my adrenaline going.

Captain Hate

Well it is worth reading again, no?

It didn't get old for me.

MaryD

Porchlight, thanks so much for the link, though I hope there is better video available. Watching this, I think that Paul Ryan scares the living daylights out of Toonces. (H/T Captain Hate)

Ann

LOL, Fresh Air!

I am going out for dinner. Hope the visual gets out of my head.

Maybe I should order soup.

caro

Porch,

If you watch with the sound down and just pay attention to Obama's face as Ryan presents his case, it is hilarious.

HA! at about 5:20 Obambi does his familiar middle finger salute.

Soylent Red

Having watched that Ryan video, lemme just say...

The Republican party should construct a "best of" commercial from his eviscerating of Obamacare, run it twice a night with no commentary during prime time for a week, then sit back and do nothing else.

It would be enough.
