As of the start of the fourth quarter it is the Cots over the Saints by 17-16. I still think the Saints is more overmatched than the Colts defense, but this should be a exciting finish.
HMM: An interception return for a touchdown puts the Saints up by 31-17 with 3:05 left in the game and the Manning as best ever meme takes on water.
Just saw the Green ad in full screen. I think it's creepy.

31-17 Saints.

It IS creepy. Just what I fear from the greens too.
I have to shake my head when the left is always fretting about those prudish Christians imposing their lifestyle on them. Talk about imposing a lifestyle...nobody can beat the radical environmentalist.

TM, when Peyton Manning's career is over, he may be considered the best ever, but I think there has been some irrational exuberance this week about premature deeming of Peyton as The One.
Archie Manning must have mixed emotions, but he must be thrilled that the team for which he labored so long is bringing the Vince Trophy home!

Best Ad-Tebow.
Worst-Green Police.
The Intel robot ad (playing again now) wasn't bad. The portable TV device ad and the male shower products ad were horrible, but the Green Police ad takes the cake for a quintessential combination of stupidity and creepiness.

The consensus at our house was the Green Police ad was creepy. But Germans (it was an Audi ad) are used to that kind of intrusion, aren't they?
That "My Generation" remix by wil.i.am, who did videos for Obama, had two interesting shots: one of one of the networks calling Florida for Al Gore, and another showing the "Mission Accomplished" banner. Just can't leave it alone, can they?

I shared that with one of PUK's friend in an email to show them how much we thought of PUK and how he shared a very intimate moment to prod us on to never let the state get a hold of our freedoms.
I know we aren't done with this yet but I still think PUK would be proud that we have delayed the inevitability of it.

I LOVED that ad !!
I hope a majority of people watching had the same reaction as me, like wtf is this? Green cops going through your garbage to see what banned products you're using.
"Hah! An incandescent light bulb" blow the whistles and lead the charge into the house. To do what? Make an arrest, confiscate your lightbulbs? Yeah, it was creepy, but drove home the point to a lot of people just how these eco-freaks want to infringe on our freedoms. Thank you, Audi.

I missed the Green Police commercial, and the half time show (sat down to have dinner with my family.) However I did see a commercial for a Dodge Charger. It made marriage seem like slavery. And if you really feel that way, buying a crappy car built by UAW thugs ain't gonna make you feel better. Even the Budweiser commercials weren't too great. Our nation needs to rethink this whole Super Bowl commercial thing. Maybe we should concentrate on manufacturing products that people in other countries would want to buy.

The Snickers commercial was OK, but man, is Steve Schmidt handling the Superbowl accounts, man that was weak

peter - LUN is the Green Police/Audi commercial.
Posted by: Janet | February 08, 2010 at 07:35 AM
I'm with you peter. I missed the green commercial and I though just about every commercial in the first half highlighted the wimpification of men. By and large they were very disappointing.
The game was much better than the commercials IMO which is not always the case.
Posted by: Jane | February 08, 2010 at 07:36 AM
Even the Budweiser commercials weren't too great.
Other than ones with the Clydesdales (when in doubt, bring in the animals), Budweiser ads seem to be aimed at idiots. In particular the Bud Lite ads feature the most infantile brand of boorish humor. When you consider the swill they bottle and market as beer, maybe they have their audience targeted well.

What's with the David Paterson "bring down"? I tend to be sympathetic to anyone that is being attacked by the media. If the NYT has a story, then print it....otherwise shut up with the innuendo and hinting. Isn't that how Spitzer operated...blackmail? Reminds me of Blago too. Brought down in the media first. LUN for a WSJ review of a book by the Weekly Standard's Matt Labash, who I always find to be a fair and entertaining writer even if I don't agree with him. This is what Rupert Murdoch should aim at if he ever wakes up and fires the tiresome and boring Thomas Frank.

So the Audi ad was lampooning the green movement? I didn't get that it was a parody. Which might be the biggest story of all...it was too close for comfort.
Posted by: Sue | February 08, 2010 at 10:31 AM
I was just now ready to give The One credit for finally picking a winner when he said he favored the Saints to win. But I have now noticed a link to an interview with Couric where he decided pre-game to hedge his bets and say that Manning was the greatest of QB's and he understood how they were favored but had a soft spot for the Saints. Well we all do for that much - even hometowners like Payton Manning have a soft spot for the Saints.
But I guarantee that he will find a way of taking full credit but he can't unless he credits Bush with the Saints victory since it was Katrina that inspired the Saints.
My picks for the Super Bowl ads (which I agree are less and less creative, funny, inspiring or even selling anything):
1. Snickers
2. Tebow (not what we were told to expect)
3. Green Police (using critical satire to sell what you were making fun of)
Posted by: Jack is Back! | February 08, 2010 at 10:34 AM
I wasn't amused by the Audi ad, either. The message I took away was: Go along with with what the green police want to avoid their harrassment.

It was the attempt at sophistication of the Green Police ad that I found so creepy. I think the theme of the ad was that Green folks are cool and above it all, while those who still use incandescent light bulbs are at a lower level of being. The ad was also a poor parody of the Miller High Life ads in which a beer policeman removes Miller from establishments that don't measure up.

Thomas,
I guess the message was you can out-green the greens with clean diesel. It was too close to the reality we are living in and the fact that I can drive a diesel car and the green police will let me through wasn't amusing. I hated the commercial. Even after learning they were lampooning the green police. Which I guess should have been obvious when they used a sniffer anteater. At the time, it didn't strike me as odd, just part of the mindset of the loony left.
Posted by: Sue | February 08, 2010 at 11:17 AM
Der Hahn, I quite agree.

Thanks, DoT, that review was really good. I have steered clear of PBS in recent years for just the reasons the author spelled out in his introduction, but now I am curious to watch the program.
I think it's been all too easy since WWII and the Cold War for Americans to assume that since we won, it was a foregone conclusion that we would do so, and therefore we have the comfort in hindsight to revisit and criticize some of the extremely difficult decisions that had to be made. But the people who made them didn't know we would win. In fact we damn near lost.
We are in so many ways becoming the victims of our own successes - economic, military, cultural, etc.
