An OT on Polar Bears since they are just coming up in the news as a big pawn in the AGW debate and especially important in potentially shutting down development in Alaska.

The current PC thesis being pushed seems to be that Polar Bears are coming south because the north is melting, and that a Grizzley has been spotted going north due to northern warming which is unheralded. Mixed in with that is that recently a hybrid Griz/Polar has been shot, which is supposed to be an unheard of thing.

Yet this BBC story from 2006, about a hybrid Polar/Griz shot in Northern Canada in 2006, says "There have long been stories of oddly coloured bears living in regions where the two territories overlap."

He was startled at that unheralded behavior, yet all the natives knew all about it, and my question was what kind of an expert is that?

I am no expert on Polar Bears at all, but simply reading through the stories I linked, it's pretty obvious that neither are the Polar Bear experts themselves. Before this latest jawbone discovery, estimates were Polar Bears started between 50,000 to 1 million years ago, yet 1 tooth from that jawbone settles the science at 120,000 BC? Such Stuff as AGW Dreams Are Made on if you ask me.

Sorry my longwindedness, but I need to quick become educated and throwing together these disparate links helped the organization process. The push to declare them and the Cook Inlet Beluga's is big on the news up here lately, and I'm just not hearing the other side of the story.
