The Times did some polling on the Tea Party; their lead:
Poll Finds Tea Party Backers Wealthier and More Educated
By KATE ZERNIKE and MEGAN THEE-BRENAN
Tea party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the general public, tend to be Republican, white, male, and married...
I await the day we see a Times story that opens "Obama supporters are poorer and less well-educated than the general public, tend to be Democratic, darker-complected, female, and single...". Even though it might be true.
Once again: they are remarkably like the crowd at a Stones concert or a Garrison Keillor recital.

Yes,but tea party protesters are much more likely to be female than the population at large.
Lamentably, topless protests haven't caught on with the tea party crowd.
But the day is young!

I would bet my last dollar that they are also more likely than the general public to pay federal income tax, but I not that Ms. Zernike did not think to inquire.

Define their definition of “Backers” … people who support the effort more than others.
Well Duh.
Since when has any effort, name one, been “Backed” or supported by the poor or poorer using this definition.
It’s sort of like waking up one day and realizing that people with money .. donate.
... or that newspapermen tend to write more news stories.

One time at the otter cliff in Acadia I stumbled on a bunch of college girls participating in an outdoor club climbing class (all female girl power! type event).
At some point they all started feeling their oats, and some adrenaline, and ripped their tops off and all start high fiving and what not. I was the only guy there. Man, it was beautiful. They were still collecting gear and some had over the shoulder slings bandolier style... Hawt! as Soylent would say.

Of course, these same people will look at this information and conclude that when a similar demographic backs the Tea Party, that is a bad thing.

Btw, I didn't go to the tea party today for a variety of reasons, most of them related to Mrs Hate feeling dragged out.

Captain:
Don't feel bad. I didn't make it to a tea party either. Fell on my right knee going up stairs holding a laundry basket. S.T.U.P.I.D.
I have had a bag of ice on it. Time to put some of the ice in a glass with some expensive pain killer, if you know what I mean.
I am just so mad because there were two excellent tea parties to go to in Ohio today. They even had one at the capital in Columbus.
Hope someone reports in from JOM for us.
I am so happy for Jane and Caro getting to meet Sen. Brown and for all the JOMers that met for dinner.
Anyways, Hannity said they sold 10,000 tickets to the event in Cinti., tonight. We can watch his show at 9:00pm, wave our flag and pretend. :)

Eh, accidents are accidents. I would've liked to have attended the Cleveland one although the website of the local fishwrap indicated it wasn't very well attended. Since that's the place of employment for the bovine second Mrs. Sherrod Brown (no conflict there, no?) they aren't exactly an unbiased source. Fox News yanks Sean Hannity from Cincinnati Tea Party rally he was set to star in
Posted by: Ann says Obama Sucks! | April 15, 2010 at 08:39 PM
Ann,
That's odd. The story says they knew yesterday morning, but as late as this afternoon on Hannity's radio program he was still talking about attending the event.
Posted by: Sue | April 15, 2010 at 08:49 PM
That story's strange; it's hard to believe that Hannity wouldn't have cleared it or that he hadn't done similar on-location things before. Somebody's gonna look really bad out of this when the dust has settled.
Posted by: Captain Hate | April 15, 2010 at 08:54 PM
Well, it is the LATIMES.
Tune in and give him the ratings regardless.
The left has really gone after Hannity lately trying to besmirch his credibility with his Freedom Concerts. Those reports were all made up and bogus.
Looks like he is back in New York. Damn it!!!
Posted by: Ann says Obama Sucks! | April 15, 2010 at 09:01 PM
Well, Hannity is on and it doesn't look like he is at a Tea Party rally. Must be some truth to it. Thompson twittered earlier today he would be joining Sean on his show at the Cinci tea party.

One of the local Cincinnati stations is reporting he was forced to cancel because they charged a fee. Party organizers announced he had an emergency.
This whole thing is very odd. Hannity was talking about the fee on his radio show today saying none of the money went to him. I swear I wasn't dreaming it, but I was only half listening. At what point today did Hannity pull out? Thompson tweeted today he would be with Hannity in Cincinnati.

Charlie Crist is going to run as an independent. Connie Mack has just resigned as his campaign chairman. Over the veto of the bill that would have made it easier to fire teachers. Insiders think that was a signal he was going to run as an independent. Mack quitting supports that theory.
I have to say, it's hard to gripe about it. The same thing happened to Lieberman and we screamed go Joe go.

big surprise is for Cornyn, how many times

In more serious news, a whole passel of republicans, including Chambliss, McCain and Brown are now for the banking bill

It's not exactly the same. Joe's only act of apostasy was on the war; other than that he was a solid lib on everything. Crist is a squish on a variety of issues including being a big-spending douche that openly shilled for the porkulus bill.
Posted by: Captain Hate | April 16, 2010 at 06:55 AM
Either way, I'm still pissed for some reason at Cornyn.
Maybe because he's stepped in it at least twice on saying the HCR shouldn't be repealed and then stated he was misquoted or taken out of context? Perhaps he should just stfu to remove the possibility of pulling a hat trick of dumbassery....

Sue, per Mediabistro, re Hannity:
"Fox News never agreed to allow the Cincinnati Tea Party organizers to use Sean Hannity's television program to profit from broadcasting his show from the event," EVP of programming Bill Shine, tells the Times.
I read elsewhere that the Tea Party organizers were selling higher priced tickets for seats next to the Hannity set. I think FNC probably did the right thing, but it is too bad that it couldn't have all been worked out well beforehand.

Trust Obama to screw up a quota pick by choosing someone in the closet. The admin is in a bind - if they trumpet her gayness they'll get in trouble for outing her, and if they don't, they (along with gay activists) won't be able to claim the "historic" win.
They're lucky Domenech is taking the heat on this one for the moment - it gives them time to consult with activists and come up with a strategy.

significant to her as Martin Luther King Day
because she was from Lebanon??, and Janet Napolitano has long past her Peter Principle

I've always had a bit of fondness for Shalala since she was the only one to stand up to Slick during one of his almost non-existent Cabinet meetings and call him an a-hole for his Monica actions. Typically Clenis didn't take it well since his whore mother did such a demonstrably poor job of raising him, but to Stumpy's credit she stood her ground.
