In his new book about Obama, "The Bridge", David Remnick of The New Yorker includes as a throwaway a line about the relationship between Barack Obama and Bill Ayers:
“Ayers helped bring Obama onto the Annenberg board.”
No kidding. We have long believed what Remnick is now reporting, but the current official Obama cover story as promoted in the Times is that after Bill Ayers worked for a year to create the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, he simply stood back and let others pick a young stranger with no background in education to lead it. Sure.
Steve Diamond, who has done a tremendous amount of original work on this, has much more. My original trouncing of the Times cover-up piece is here.
He's just a guy from the neighborhood.

Maybe someday evidence will be exposed that proves Obama met Ayers at Columbia.
And that connection is what led Obama to later move to Chicago.
It's no accident that Obama happened to wind up at Sidley Austin with Bernardine Dohrn and Michelle Obama.

Ron Radosh has a piece on that today on PJ, mentioning Steve Diamond prominently (as you can tell from the thumbnail I gave it.)

Posted by: Oh, why ask? | April 09, 2010 at 05:24 PM
They lied because of fear that Bernadine Dohrn's involvement with the Brinks robbery-murder in the early 80s would carry over to Obama

Chicago Tribune, while it was polishing Obama's image with millions of glowing words, never reported that Obama served on that board.

I'm with you, fdcol63. Ayres sent Obama to Chicago.
I can't believe that Obama could be in NYC at that time and not know of Dohrn's prison sentencing and that her husband, the radical Ayers, was attending Columbia. He stated in his book that he sought out radicals and I'm sure he would have sought out Ayres at Columbia.

Sharon-
the radical Ayers, was attending Columbia.
Bank Street College, down the road a ways from Columbia, a school Ayers' pop donated some money to.

Informants. Ayers and O follow a pattern. They both were informants or had family that were like O's dad for CIA. So, they got stuff like educations at good schools, etc. O would seek out these? I doubt it, more like he ended up with them as work.
Plame might have done this type of work, but she liked to get people killed too much. She's come out and explained why we will have no nukes soon(she was a CIA spy at this and she'd never tell anyone, really).
O's pals are all getting jobs now, etc., so there's a reward system. What's the problem?
Posted by: landscapemoldergeohazard(neolithicl) | April 09, 2010 at 07:19 PM
Rich,
From Ayers website:
Ayers would have started at Bank Street in Fall/83, and then an instructor at Columbia Teachers College.
Obama graduated in '83 and then worked in NYC for a year.
You don't think Obama looked him up?

Maybe a "journalist" could ask Michelle some questions. How was their Bali vacation while Barack was writing the whole time? Who paid for that lovely vacation? Was the sand a problem with the computer? Although they are 20 years apart...did the Ayers kids and the Obama kids enjoy going to the same school? (wasn't that one of the reasons given for them knowing each other?)

Actually, I couldn't get past the first sentence reference to the "New Yorker" when I knew that if it wasn't a cartoon I would gag.
It does seem to me that Nixon and Watergate were worth the price of journalism fame and fortune but Obaama with his tenuous ties to Islam, marxism, native born, Wright, Chicago thugism, Bill Ayers (and all that represents) Franklin Marshall, the lost years, his various passports, his predilection for embracing our enemies and pissing off our allies (even France, yeck), bowing to anyone (even the mayor of Tampa) and other dots that are obviously invisible to connect make our journalists complicit and beside that idiots not worth the price of the paper. [Is this the longest sentence today?]

"What We Know About Obama"
The illusion of pragmatism advances far-left goals, in baby steps."
By Stanley Kurtz"
I always think Stanley Kurtz tried to tell us what was Coming as well as many others.
"n pursuit of his goals, Obama has shown himself willing to quietly support, and sometimes to openly use, radical Alinskyite tactics. At the Woods Fund, Obama's allies bragged about the way their "post-ideological" cover had allowed them to fund ACORN's confrontational tactics, while escaping public criticism. Obama has shamelessly used Alinskyite "direct action" to silence and intimidate political foes during the current campaign (a matter well-known to conservatives, yet little noted by the mainstream press). Victory would only cement the conviction in Obama and his allies that these tactics had "won," and therefore should be used again."
Posted by: Pagar | April 09, 2010 at 08:03 PM
Ya know, it might be best to not look for the person behind Obama, but instead look to why Obama associates with those people. What made Obama hang around a domestic terrorist? What prevents him from being repulsed by Soros?

Until foreign historians investigate, none of this will ever achieve credibility. Just tonight, on The History Channel, I learned about how great a man Washington was for voluntarily giving up the presidency after two terms. The next line was "Can anyone imagine a president like Richard Nixon doing that?" No mention of FDR.

Granted it's the third rate delusions worthy of an educational "expert" and has all the validity of a ganga-infused undergrad bull session, but it's hard to imagine little Billy didn't picture Il Douche playing a part in that at some point.

I find it amusing that one of the main liberal arguments for the alleged nuttiness of Tea Party backers and "Right wingers" in general is that they call Obama a socialist.
My response: What part of his political program and philosophy can you identify that isn't socialist?
So far, no coherent response.

No mention of Obama's spending at all.

Norah is a "Polly Parrot" simply repeating talk points from those whom she thinks are her betters. Her flame-out on Celebrity Jeopardy was simply a confirmation of her lack of intellectual heft. It's not so much that she did not win, the Jeopardy game environment can be intimidating, it's that she went down so spectacularly and amply demonstrated that she has not the first clue.
Norah's rapidly blinking eyes and nervous, breathless, demeanor are not attractive. Does anyone know if their is some family association with Laurence O'Donnell? They strike me as two peas in a pod, so I would not be surprised to find out they are related.

Just had to pass this on. It made me laugh.
This morning, the Belgian wife and I were watching F&F and Sarah came on digging back at The Won about nuclear experience. I noted, what I have written here, "she is in his head, big time".
The wife noted, "yes she is and she obviously likes it there."

I don't think Sarah is sucking O's brains, staring through his eyeballs, ears. She doesn't do that and passed the women trading men contest and the seeing, hearing crap. Eveyone is more worried about O paining.
What's bad is the plane thing where the pilots tried to crash it and stuff. O and his wife were on that plane.

Yes I believe Obama obviously had long connections to the radical left. It's funny how the media doesn't investigate it. I for example am a person who believes the radical connections but can still give Obama a chance. I think others would too. A little communism ain't a bad thing. All things in moderation.
So I think there are people who could handle the fact he's a commie and still give him a chance as Prez. So the media shouldn't be so afraid. Always better more knowledge

Anyway if you all read the Tiger Woods Vanuity Fair article, it gave an account of highrollers in Vegas. Sounds so cheezy and so depressing. So that's what it's like to be super rich? Posted by: sylvia | April 10, 2010 at 10:33 PM
Most of the "strippers" in Vegas are students at UNLV. Bet none of them have any issues with outstanding big $$ student loans.
Maybe the new student loan program is just a way to further dessimate (sp) the Vegas tourism industry. If the strippers get their college paid for by the govt, they won't need to strip to go to school.
The feministas will be happy, though.

It appears that Bill Ayers is a complex person. I have never met him so my observation is pure speculation. I did know his first love, however, Diana Oughton, and I knew her before he did, when she was a student at Bryn Mawr College while I was attending Haverford. Both Bill and Diana came from wealthy families and were both likely and unlikely candidates for the radical paths they took.
I did meet Bernadine Dohrn several times in the early 60's when we were both at the University of Chicago, but only in brief conversations during coffee hour in the Law School lounge/lobby. I haven't seen her since.
I have no doubt that Ayers may have assisted Obama in getting on to the Annenberg Challenge Board, but he had no more influence over Obama than I did, in discussing Barack's career trajectory at a lunch at the Cliffdweller's Club in Chicago sometime in the latger Fall of 2003. The conversation at that lunch turned out to be propitious indeed.
ButI didn't meet Barack until the early 2000's; I met Michelle in the late 90's when she served on the Chicago Commission on Historic and Architectural Landmarks. It is because of her, more than him, that I sought him out in 2003 to try to talk him out of running for the Seante. By the end of the lunch I was saying, let the better man win and predcting that Barack would eventually become President which he admitted to me was his 'ultimate ambition'.
Barack Obama is being villified as no President since Lincoln and FDR have been. It will not stick. He knows what he is doing and he is mostly right. In the context of history I think he will be one of the greats.
Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright and even David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel won't even be blips on the screen. I, and others like me will be comparable to the necessary, but incosequnetial stones on the first few layers of the Great Pyramids. I am honored to be that.
Posted by: Philip Steele Krone | April 11, 2010 at 06:29 AM
Well make up your mind would ya. If Ayers is such a great guy...why do Obama and his handlers lie about how well they knew each other? See the problem is Obama lied about his association with Ayers.
Perhaps you need to email Obama and tell HIM that he has no need to disassociate himself from Ayers.
"I have no doubt that Ayers may have assisted Obama in getting on to the Annenberg Challenge Board,"
Then why did Obama lie?
Posted by: Janet | April 11, 2010 at 08:13 AM
...and I am honored that I can tell my children and grandchildren that I had nothing to do with electing our first socialist President... that I tried to stop the destruction of our great country...that I didn't believe the lies and propaganda put out by our media about Barack Obama.
