Cue the GEICO jokes:
Signs of Neanderthals Mating With HumansBy Nicholas Wade
Neanderthals mated with some modern humans after all and left their imprint in the human genome, a team of biologists has reported in the first detailed analysis of the Neanderthal genetic sequence.
That conclusion comes from heavy statistical analysis of Neanderthal bone fragments that may or may not have been subsequently contaminated by humans. Subject to the caveat that this research is not yet fully embraced, we press on:
[Lead researcher] Dr. Paabo said that episode of human-Neanderthal breeding implied by Dr. Reich’s statistics most plausibly occurred “in the Middle East where the first modern humans appear before 100,000 years ago and there were Neanderthals until 60,000 years ago.” According to Dr. Klein, people in Africa expanded their range and reached just Israel during a warm period some 120,000 years ago. They retreated during a cold period some 80,000 years ago and were replaced by Neanderthals. It is not clear whether or not they overlapped with Neanderthals, he said.
These humans, in any case, were not fully modern and they did not expand from Africa, an episode that occurred some 30,000 years later. If there was any interbreeding, the flow of genes should have been both ways, Dr. Klein said, but Dr. Paabo’s group sees evidence for gene flow only from Neanderthals to modern humans.
The Leipzig group’s interbreeding theory would undercut the present belief that all human populations today draw from the same gene pool that existed a mere 50,000 years ago. “What we falsify here is the strong out-of-Africa hypothesis that everyone comes from the same population,” Dr. Paabo said.
In his and Dr. Reich’s view, Neanderthals interbred only with non-Africans, the people who left Africa, which would mean that non-Africans drew from a second gene pool not available to Africans.
Those were the concluding paragraphs, always a good place to look for the smoking gun in a Times piece. As to the function of the genes in question? But the researchers make this claim:
Experts believe that the Neanderthal genome sequence will be of extraordinary importance in understanding human evolutionary history since the two species split some 600,000 years ago.
So far, the team has identified only about 100 genes — surprisingly few — that have contributed to the evolution of modern humans since the split. The nature of the genes in humans that differ from those of Neanderthals is of particular interest because they bear on what it means to be human, or at least not Neanderthal. Some of the genes seem to be involved in cognitive function and others in bone structure.
My goodness - evidence that humanity split into European and Asian branches, bred with other slightly different species, and developed slightly different cognitive functions at the genetic level? That won't be enough to get Dr.Watson his job back, nor should it be. And I don't think logic and evidence are relevant to the truly committed libs. Still, given the epistemic closure on questions of race, equality, and intelligence I would say this is bordering on Dangerous Science that may have trouble being funded.
REACHING BACK IN TIME: From a comment by "daddy" we see that the WaPo wrote about our Neanderthal heritage three years ago:
But Trinkaus says the fossil record is the best information available, and it increasingly points to an "admixture" theory -- that Neanderthals who had lived in Europe for about 400,000 years shared the land and, to some extent, their genes with the migrants from the south who began arriving 40,000 years ago.
As with all theories regarding the Neanderthals, there are problems with the one Trinkaus and others are advancing. So far, analysis of modern humans' DNA has turned up no identifiable Neanderthal genetic material. Instead, it points to a common East African male ancestor from about 100,000 years ago and a common East African female from 170,000 years ago. Because the sampling remains limited, evolutionary geneticists generally do not say their findings settle the matter -- although an ongoing mapping of the Neanderthal genome by European researchers may change the equation.
If you can't take the heat:
But one genetic trait of modern Europeans makes him doubt there was any major Neanderthal input -- the fact that most humans today are genetically ill-adapted to cold weather. Only some native Indian populations, as well as people in the north of Eurasia and aborigines in Australia (who experience deep cold at night), have good genetic defenses to cold. Since Neanderthals lived in Europe for hundreds of thousands of years, through ice ages and frigid conditions, they would have become genetically suited to such conditions, Stringer said. The fact that Europeans are not, he added, suggests that any Neanderthal contribution to their makeup is limited.
But back to brains:
One geneticist, Bruce T. Lahn of the University of Chicago, has even proposed that Neanderthals may have provided genetic material that helped in human brain development. Lahn has been studying such genes, in particular a gene called microcephalin. A mutation of that gene can cause microcephaly, which leaves a child with a very small head and serious neurological problems.
Lahn's studies indicated that a new and more powerful version of the gene arose in modern humans about 40,000 years ago. In a paper last year, he concluded that the two microcephalin genes are so different that they must have diverged about 1 million years ago, around the time of the split between those that would become Neanderthals and the homo sapiens destined to become modern humans.
Lahn's explanation of the information: The newer and better version of the gene evolved in a separate species -- most likely Neanderthals -- and then entered the gene pool of modern humans through interbreeding around the time that modern humans reached Europe.
MSNBC had more on Dr. Lahn:
Could our big brains come from Neanderthals?Study: Gene could only be passed by interbreeding with humans
WASHINGTON - Neanderthals may have given the modern humans who replaced them a priceless gift — a gene that helped them develop superior brains, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.
And the only way they could have provided that gift would have been by interbreeding, the team at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of
Chicago said....Lahn's team found a brain gene that appears to have entered the human lineage about 1.1 million years ago, and that has a modern form, or allele, that appeared about 37,000 years ago — right before Neanderthals became extinct.
...Positive selection means the gene conferred some sort of advantage, so that people who had it were more likely to have descendants than people who did not. Lahn's team estimated that 70 percent of all living humans have this type D variant of the gene.
"By no means do these findings constitute definitive proof that a
Neanderthal was the source of the original copy of the D allele. However, our evidence shows that it is one of the best candidates," Lahn said. The researchers reached their conclusions by doing a statistical analysis of the DNA
sequence of microcephalin, which is known to play a role in regulating brain size in humans. Mutations in the human gene cause development of a much smaller brain, a condition called microcephaly. They noted that this D allele is very common in Europe, where Neanderthals lived, and more rare in Africa, where they did not. Lahn said it is not yet clear what advantage the D allele gives the human brain.
"The D alleles may not even change brain size; they may only make the brain a bit more efficient if it indeed affects brain function," Lahn said.
COMING BACK TO THE WEATHER... Above we heard from a scientist noting that Europeans are not particularly suited to cold weather. I'll take his word for it, but Steve Sailer has this reminder as part of his primitive caveman coverage:
...as Brandeis historian David Hackett Fischer pointed out in his famous Albion's Seed, these racial differences had an enormous impact on the history of America. He notes that the cold climate of colonial Massachusett:
"proved to be exceptionally dangerous to immigrants from tropical Africa, who suffered severely from pulmonary infections in New England winters. Black death rates in colonial Massachusetts were twice as high as whites' - a pattern very different from Virginia where mortality rates for the two races were not so far apart, and still more different from South Carolina where white death rates were higher than those of blacks. So high was mortality among African immigrants in New England that race slavery was not viable on a large scale, despite many attempts to introduce it. Slavery was not impossible in this region, but the human and material costs were higher than many wished to pay. A labor system which was fundamentally hostile to the Puritan ethos of New England was kept at bay partly by the climate."
Interesting. Here is an abolition timeline from Wikipedia.
That won't be enough to get Dr.Watson his job back, nor should it be.
But if your lab is looking for a good political officer, Tom Maguire's your guy.

The fact that humans contaminated the space alien luciferian genetics is probably good, like the neandertals, most of what isn't needed is being lost. Humans will become what Lucifer is used to; reflections of himself in creation.
The satanically pure genetics did also split off, but it was before the European migration ,etc. so the luciferians are concerned the genetics aren't theirs and is pure satanic rather than just luciferian, making them subs to lucifer, which is what luciferian genetics are.
The original space alien luciferian genetics are actually from Satan and superior to human and space aliens making them the pure beings; computers and robots of existence. Why would luciferians aspire to this perfection as perversions of lucifer. Obviously the most they could hope for is resurrection as a metal man or computer, Satan's perfection for the perversions.
Being made perfect by genetic resurrection is impossible; only a reflection of perfection perverted by Satanic resurrection, perfection, God's creations.

I suppose this Professor Lahn, writing in ">http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042901101.html"> the WaPo 3 years back, didn't get fired for suggesting that Neanderthals added specific genes to improve human intelligence, because he naturally assumed African Blacks aren't racist and would have had sex with Neanderthalers just like Europeans and Asians, and everybody else.
Prof Lahn's interesting hypothesis was this:
"Lahn of the University of Chicago, has even proposed that Neanderthals may have provided genetic material that helped in human brain development. Lahn has been studying such genes, in particular a gene called microcephalin. A mutation of that gene can cause microcephaly, which leaves a child with a very small head and serious neurological problems.

"The team analysed the DNA of 13 genes from the Neanderthal mitochondria and found they were distinctly different to modern humans, suggesting Neanderthals never, or rarely, interbred with early humans."
"Humans are all more similar to each other, than any human is to a Neandertal. And in fact the Neandertal sequence is three or more times as different, on average, from us as we are from each other."
And from the comments:
"So bush is NOT linked directly to the Neanderthals? Are they sure?
"Of course they are sure. His kind PREDATES Neandethals by several million years, at least."

Breeding to perfection isn't an issue either, like resurrection , it is a reflection, perversion, of perfection that was once here. Luciferians try to worship by saying they want to be 'made' what Satan once perfected, but they are and have been perversions of Lucifer. Something to use would be the fetus' of the breeding program outing the pure DNA as it is a perversion like them.

I imagine that it would be very difficult to get a sample of Neanderthal DNA that hasn't been contaminated by human DNA.
I don't doubt that some hanky panky might have gone on, but as a theory for what happened to the Neanderthals I don't think it is convincing. Modern humans have a history of attacking creatures they perceive as competition or as a threat. That includes not just lions, tigers, grizzlies, and wolves, but other humans also.
The Paiutes in Norther Nevada told early explorers about a tradition they had that there had once been a tribe of violent red haired people who lived nearby. The Paiutes called that tribe the "tule eaters."
According to the story, the Paiutes banded together with several other tribes and attacked the red haired people. Most of the "tule eaters" were trapped in a cave and massacred.

The fact that he was actually a party to the apartheid system...
Nate, you'll want to read these links.
This Wikipedia article is actually rather perfunctory:
Israel – South Africa relations
This next one is quite lengthy:
Brothers in arms - Israel's secret pact with Pretoria
This last one covers South Africa's relations with many countries, so look for the section on Israel--or just read it all:
South Africa: Relations with Other Countries
This is not the whole section re Israel, just an excerpt:
Bottom line: who knows where Goldstone got the idea that it was OK to be "actually a party to the apartheid system." People get strange ideas, form weird ways to rationalize their behavior.
My advice is, argue the Gaza invasion on its merits, not through ad hominem means. When you resort to ad hominem means you invite a similar response.

Reminds me of the Klingon insult on an NCIS: "You mother has a smooth forehead."
Just passed through ccal's valley of death and dust. It really hurts to see giant orchards dead and the skeletons left standing. Plenty of accusatory signs but not the mention of the actual guilty -- the Democarps. Thanks Dems for *your* care of Mother Gaia. Pfui!

Starting to stink even more...

The left made common cause with the Palestinians in the early 70s, Israel was
pitied up until the point it showed it could
defend itself, much like the international reaction to 9/11, vis a vis the US. The Russians through their successor to the Okrana Agentura, the KGB propagated the 'zionism is racism' meme, and were after the Saudis, the leading supporters of the PLO, although it was the GRU's Sakharovsky
who was Arafat's patron.as they arose from a splinter of the Moslem brotherhood. This attitude is expressed most clearly in the memoirs of old foreign apparatchik Primakov,
who worked in agitating the Arab street from the 50s on, and has a kind word for Hamas, Like Chambers noted in 'Ghosts on the Roof" old habits like those of Trepov
Ignatiev, and Tolstoy Sr, die hard

--schizophrenia
is more than one personality, right--
Common misperception, Nate.
Multiple personalities also known as dissociative disorder is a personality disorder (often called neuroses) grouped with other personality disorders like Narcissitic PD and Borderline PD. Personality disorders do not appear to have a physical cause but are most likely the result of traumas of one sort or another and are seldom effectively treated with drugs.
Schizophrenia is a psychosis or a mental or thinking disorder presenting as delusions, hallucinations, confused thinking etc. It is believed to be caused by some type of poorly understood chemical imbalance and is often treatable with any number of anti psychotics most of which interact with the brains dopamine receptors as excessive dopamine activity appears correlated with schizophrenia.
I guess the reason schizophrenia is often confused with multip[le personalities is that the root words of schizophrenia mean "a split mind".

I was making that reference, Ignatz in light of the vote in Britain yesterday, they forced out some corrupt (Smith,) evil (Galloway) anf yet they kept others like Darling, it was metaphorical

And nobody in Chicago would say anything about it being from here, to anyone in the biz?
Big. Fat. Lie.
Doesn't even pass the smell test. Nobody would be able to keep that kind of trade a secret, even the Feds. Who's on the other side of the trade? (the biggest dupe, and is mute).
Where are Dodd, Durbin, Reid, And Schumer? For a noisy bunch of boys with a bill to pass, they are damn silent.
This stinks. Rotten fish type of stink.
Traced to Chicago? And no exchange makes a peep for two whole days?
If I made this kind of mistake, or trade, the clearing firm would have been on my back, and at my side within 5 minutes of execution of a trade this size. Two days?
Fat Finger This.
No. Way.
It's still a lie.
I'm working on the xcl spreadsheet of 297 corrected NASDAQ trades, 60% wide, or more. better than 75% are ETFs and Closed end funds. The overlap of underlying securities is a bit frightening. It was broad in its assault and deep in specific issues that would snap the market quickly.
If anyone wants to follow up the data list, I'll happily share the link and spread out the work.
Clarice, Chicago doesn't cut it as the true origination, for me at least.

BTW, not everyone's a timid shoe clerk..some folks figured out what was going on and bought at a nice 35% haircut.

And there might be some crime here that far, far outstrips most of the globe.
And, it may make me nervous, but I'm not. I refuse to donate to political causes, which are kinda important around here. Keeps me very clean.

And the NYSE "lost" their tapes of activity for the last 20 minutes of the day.

so high, the calculator would run out of places
