I was hoping a cup of coffee would help but apparently not. It started when I read that someone was claiming there was something good that could be said about Jane Fonda's time in Vietnam. When you type NOTAM into google, you get wikipedia. Which says:

NOTAM or NoTAM is the quasi-acronym for a "Notice To Airmen". Boy, those things will throw you for a loop. An absolute, literal loop. But I found how to get over it: Exlax, mixed with Chef Boy-ar-Dee. (Do you capitalize the 'ar'? The way I wrote it looks Arabic. No, not Arabic, those other guys. Arabic.) You get on a good regimen of Exlax and Raviolios, and in a week you'll feel as strong as if you had fourteen fingers. I swear to goodness.

Anyways, I thought I should bring yuze up to date on what great things I've been doing for America. First, as senior...foreign policy...guy, sort of the "go-to guy" for that sort of thing. So that's number one.

B, has been my effort at combating fraud and waste with the pork spending. The stimulus spending! You know, the Republicans call it "pork", but they sure do take it for their own districts, just like they did when they were the "culture of corruption". Except it's not corrupt when it's from the stimulus package. I'm point man to find out if there's any funny business there, and let me tell you I haven't found a bit of it.

And fourth has been my work on the various other projects and things as befits a man of my, if I do say, stature. I tell ya, they treat me real good around here. Lots of respect. Why, just about any time somebody talks to me, it starts, "Joe, with all due respect".

So there you go. Scranton, Amtrak, "just the folks", "take those socks out of the oven".

The US is a pressure release valve for Mexico, allowing corrupt Mexican leaders to vent their public's anger against their own government.

Without it, if the US secured its own borders, the Mexican people would revolt. While in the short term this might create violence and upheaval in Mexico, it would probably result in lasting changes that would create better economic conditions within Mexico that would encourage more Mexicans to stay home.

Suppose that more recently an increase in the demand for dollars, plus Fed passivity, made monetary policy effectively more contractionary. Here's what you'd expect to see in the financial markets:

1. Falling commodity prices
2. Falling TIPS spreads
3. Falling equity prices
4. An appreciating dollar

Let's see what has actually happened:
1) oil is down 20% since April 6th
2) 10 year bonds yields are down nearly 60 basis points since April 5th
3) the Dow Jones is off over 5% since April 26th
4) the dollar is up 16% on a trade weighted basis since late November

A sea of liquidity indeed.

Generally agreed. However, no one else has posted that sort of crud. I wouldn't even put Clarice's recipes in quite that category. The only things that come close, IMO, are:

1) Clarice's utterly unformatted paste jobs (see just above), and

2) daddy's personal diary entries.

This is an issue on which people of good will can differ--even vociferously--but there's really no call for the type of inconsiderate behavior that we witnessed. Obviously, I and a few others disagree on a variety of issues, but TM maintains an open and liberal policy for a reason. Heavy handed attempts to limit the range of allowable opinion (i.e., censorship) should generally by firmly rejected. That, btw, was one of Beinart's points in the article that I linked yesterday.

Moreover, I think one and all should bear in mind that sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. That's not intended to be an appeal to relativism--just an appeal to reflect a bit before clicking "Post."
