Narcissists don't do self deprecation.

Rob Crawford

Shorter Obama: "Shut up and let me close these shackles".

rse

The idea is that if he brings up the term "socialist" and makes it a joke, his policies then are immunized from being criticized for what they and he are.

Noticed that a week or so ago on "What, what don't tell me".

They were using comments about "socialism" and "socialistic" as laugh lines. of absurdity.

rse

"Wait, wait . . ."

Clearly need more caffeine.

Captain Hate

It's rough having a good self image when you were abandoned by both of your parents. Thanks again 52%

peter

I really think that the next President should just skip these dinners. They are quite demeaning to the office. The gags are written by professional writers, so who exactly is being impressed by this pathetic exercise?

Rob Crawford

It's rough having a good self image when you were abandoned by both of your parents.

Maybe his parents were on to something.

(I actually feel bad for having written that.)

MarkO

My mother said, "If you can't say anything about Obama except that he's a lying, mean-spirited fraud, don't say a word."

So, I'm saying nothing.

Captain Hate

I actually feel bad for having written that.

Why? It's the type of statement/question the MFM and social science people leave unstated that begs to be addressed. Biracial children can have a problematic sense of identity even in the best of circumstances, which Toonce's obviously wasn't. People act as if there's nothing to see there. Oh really?

Rob Crawford

Why?

Because it's not his fault his parents were either scum or flighty.

Bo

Good stuff.

Kudos to the WaPo for going after Barry- but I think Andrew "Dice" Clay would have been the better analogy than Don Rickles for insult humor. Rickles is funny (and always let his audience know at the end that he's just kidding around). Dice Clay in his heyday came off as a mean-spirited, vindictive a-hole, much like our POTUS.

Jane

Ya know Obama has had plenty of opportunity to get over his parents. In fact he has had nothing but opportunity. Lots of people grow up with a lot harder beginnings and turn out just fine.

Clarice

peter, I am with you. When WH correspondents are Larry King, Marianna Huffington and Helen Thomas and the crowd looks like Hollywood's C list and the jokes suck or are truly offensive, what's the point?

Captain Hate

Dice Clay in his heyday came off as a mean-spirited, vindictive a-hole, much like our POTUS.

I *wanted* to like Dice Clay, because everybody told me he was un-pc, but he just wasn't funny for the reasons you mentioned. Like Odummy. And people caught on pretty quickly and Dice Clay's popularity went in the toilet. Like Odummy.

gus

Obama continues to bring up being called a SOCIALIST.
He isn't a socialist, he is a MARXIST. Or a STATIST as Mark Levin says.
Obama is so deeply nacissistic that he can't even see what he himself is.

Ignatz

--Lots of people grow up with a lot harder beginnings and turn out just fine.--

Yeah, but lot's of them don't and they end up in jail. The ones just clever enough to stay out of jail end up in Hollywood or DC.

Sue

I feel sorry for the young Obama. I can't stand the adult Obama.

Dave (in MA)

This is just as on-topic as anything Anduril pastes in...

With the Boston area in the midst of a water crisis caused by a break in the primary water supply pipe feeding most of the metropolitan area, Attorney General/failed Senate candidate "Marsha" Coakley has set up a hotline to report businesses that you suspect are engaging in price gouging for bottled water.

Please call 617-963-2400 and rat out Fenway Park and any of the big movie theater chains.

Jane

Dave,

Cause she has nothing better to do.

Boatbuilder

RSE--I agree with you about the "socialist" thing. How the hell else--and I mean this seriously--should we characterize his political goals and agenda? Taking him at his own (somewhat dubious) word--doesn't he explicitly want to move our country in the direction of the European Socialist model? Don't he and his supporters think that's a good thing to do?

Steve C.

Maybe the smartest guy in the room needs a refresher in American history. Our political history goes back to one hundred years before the founding. From those days until the middle of the 19th century there was no Left/Right division in politics. The actual divisions were town v. country, or to be more specific in view of our Anglo-Scots heritage: establishmentarianism v. disestablishmentarianism. The Brits fought a lengthy and bloody civil war over the personal rule of the King and support of a state church.
You can't have a right-left division until someone describes market economics (thanks Adam Smith) and Fabianism/Chartism/Marxism. (Yes, thank YOU Karl Marx). And the relative descriptions of right and left were a derivation from the seating arrangements in the revolutionary French parliament.
But I wouldn't expect a Harvard trained lawyer to have the same appreciation for our political traditions as someone who took Poli Sci 101 at a small private Louisiana college.

Tom R

With Obama IMO it is not about the "socialist thing" as much as it is about the "authoritarianism thing". Leftwing elitists like Obama and his progresive ilk think their self-perceived intellectual superiority entitles them to dictate to the unelightened masses how things should be. They enjoy having power over other people.

When viewed in that light, all his decisions and policies make sense in that their ultimate goal is to increase the power of Obama and his progressive cronies.

JM Hanes

gus:

"He isn't a socialist, he is a MARXIST. Or a STATIST as Mark Levin says."

A Statist certainly, but he sure doesn't look like a Marxist to me -- especially when unions increasingly represent white collar bureaucrats and "service employees." As the European Social Democrat agenda has evolved, the original socialist model has gathered considerable dust, but politically speaking, such technical distinctions simply don't matter. People "know" what socialism "means," a whole lot of them know it ain't good, and Obama knows he can't afford to be stuck with that label.

Good enough for gov't work, IMO.

Pofarmer

Obama is so deeply nacissistic that he can't even see what he himself is.

Not only that, but, I suspect that he is such an idealogue, that he may simply not realize that any other points of view are legitimate.

Ellie Light

Obamao just demonstrates how great Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were. Now everyone can rejoice in having experienced the worst president in history.

Porchlight

My mother said, "If you can't say anything about Obama except that he's a lying, mean-spirited fraud, don't say a word."

I like Alice Roosevelt's take: "If you can't say anything nice, come sit next to me."

Can someone tell me how to do a search on prior JOM comments? Over at You Too someone has just posted that they envy Canada and UK's health care. I'd love to find PUK's post about his mother's treatment in the UK and link that for him.

I don't know if it will help though because I sent that to one of PUK's friends. We communicated often until I sent that and haven't heard from him since. :(

Oh thank you so much Ann

Good enough for gov't work, IMO.

Yeah, this is all hair-splitting. The bottom line is that O and his gang don't like the outcomes that result from the free choices that people make. The solution is less freedom and more state control. Call it what you wish.

Am sloggin' thru Richard Dawkin's latest Evolution book, "The greatest Show on Earth."

Dawkins has plenty of animus in the first chapter for the average 'stupid' American, and has snide remarks for President George Bush, who "during his 6 years as Governor signed a death warrant once a fortnight on average." But when we get to Obama we get the following swoon fest: "Some hybridization schemes are designed with such care that the breeders would resent their products being described as mongrels or mutts (as President Obama delightfully described himself.) The 'Labradoodle' is a hybrid between a standard poodle and a Labradore Retriever..."

It always amazes me how a supposedly so smart, so enlightened and so sophisticated professor can live in a country that is being absolutely overrun by violence promoting Islamic Religious anti-science Extremist radicals, who promote death and destruction for the country and Western Civilization each and every day, yet somehow he naively views religious Americans as the significant problem he needs to address, and cowardly continues to bash American's for their supposedly non-scientific nature, which of course gave us Ben Franklin, airplanes, jets, computers, space craft, TV's, home computers, the electric lightbulb, and a gazillion other scientific patents, plus yanked his bacon out of the last 2 world wars. Yeah. we're the frickin' problem Richard, not the exploding British Islamic population who believe the world is flat and 'Cause and Effect' is an invalid idea of science.

Simply for the choice of your target you coward you deserve to be shit upon. Get some balls and write something significant about the rot in your own country you pompous cowardly dilettante arsehole.

Chuck the book. What can he write that can make up for this arrogant carp?

LUN is a WaPo slideshow that JM Hanes linked on the Sunday thread (Thank you!)...she points out slide #16.
I really do miss W sometimes. How he could be painted as an evil man is just beyond me. What an honorable man.

P.S. I hate our MSM

It doesn't seem like he's evolved very far, otherwise he would react differently to different stimuli, or he could just be an idiot

Did you guys see the pictures of Al Gore's new place? Inside and out...LUN

Outdoor lighting!...nice.
Well, just as long as those people in South America don't get electricity then I guess the planet will survive. Sorry Juan. Watch me do a feather dance and then back to your..um..whatever YOU live in.

Here is the Extreme Green home that is planned for the rest of America.

Captain Hate

Chuck the book. What can he write that can make up for this arrogant carp?

I've started getting really really annoyed with authors that slip some garbage into their texts, almost always gratuitously, about how brilliant people that believe in glowbull worming are compared to the "deniers", just to cite one trendy example. They attain the "Do Not Read Further" status.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

When Steve Diamond was writing about Ayers/Obama/Annenberg Challenge, he used the term "neo-stalinism." He defines it as:

Neo-stalinism is an authoritarian form of politics which attempts to control and build social institutions to impose state control of the economy, politics and culture on the general population. It has similarities to the original Stalinism found in the former Soviet Union but it arose in other countries and used slightly different forms and in some instances created regimes that were at odds for various reasons with the Russian regime.

I don't know which thread to post this on, because it is completely off topic for all of them. However, sometimes there are political ads that are so over the top, you just have to share!

I have mentioned 2 or 3 times - Devin Nunes and Jim Costa - two sleezy liberal Democrats representing California. Devin has a t.v. ad that airs continuously that drips sugar telling us how he is standing up for us in Washington. ::yawn::

But, tonight on my commute home, I heard a new radio ad that made me want to laugh and cry. I only heard it once, so I cannot quote from it accurately, but the gist of it is about all those bad, nasty, eeeevil liberals who have done such bad things to California and he warns 2 or 3 times to not vote for any REPUBLICANS who are supporting these LIBERAL policies.

My gawd, what chutzpah! Sadly, there are voters out there who are simply clueless! But, I was amazed at how he repetitively connected Republican with Liberal.

Guess he is running scared?

nathan hale

They weren't able to seat a jury, because it was going to be such an endeavor

Extraneus

I once spent eight days on a trial in federal court, nh. The first jury vote was 11-1, me being the 1. After two more days, we convicted the bastard, after which the judge congratulated us and told us all the stuff that wasn't admissible in court.

(It was a drug trial, and all the audio tapes had the scumbags talking about apartments. "Uh... did you get the new apartment? Yeah? Uh... How many rooms? Eight? Can I come over, uh, and... Are all eight available?" Etc. I left out the f's, mf's, and assorted other color. Turns out the guy was taking the calls from a federal pen in Virginia where he was already serving time for heroin distribution.)

Great experience. I'd do it again in a minute.

When did Devin Nunes become a Democrat? I've posted on Nunes several times because he has been so outfront and leading the fight to get the water turned back on in Central Cal. He never seemed sleazy to me. He seemed like a fighter for his constituents.

JB

I've been using the term Progressive Authoritarianism for weeks now.

Extraneus:

"After two more days, we convicted the bastard, after which the judge congratulated us and told us all the stuff that wasn't admissible in court."

Sounds familiar! I served on jury for a trial where it was clear that everybody, including the police, was lying, and you just had to pick whose lies to believe. There were only two things we all started out agreeing on: the defense lawyer was criminally negligent and the prosecutor's case sucked.

When we finally found the defendant guilty, the bailiff asked us what took us so long, even before the judge even arrived to thank us -- and tell us about all the other things the guy had been convicted of doing before.

Many years ago I heard a psychologist opine that self-deprecating humor was one of the most sure markers of psychological normalcy. Not so much that everyone who makes funny self-deprecating remarks is normal, but that the inability to make them is virtually always a sign of insanity.

My mother said, "If you can't say anything about Obama except that he's a lying, mean-spirited fraud, don't say a word."

Well, I just composed a post listing all of Obama's other faults, and when I hit preview, just for a second, I filled the internet.

Extraneus

Now that the thread is dead, leaving a slight void in the internet, I see I should have mentioned that the 11-1 vote was 11 for not guilty. Everyone else thought the apartment code allowed for a "reasonable doubt."

Jane

Great experience. I'd do it again in a minute.

Ex,

After the OJ trial I was with a group of people who were bitching about the verdict. When I asked, every last one of the routinely found ways of getting out of jury duty. Look in the mirror folks.

I get called for jury duty about every 2 years and I never make the cut. I really wish one of these days I will get that experience.

Jane

Gawd, Roselyn Carter is on Fox and friends and she looks like death warmed over. Sheesh

centralcal

Sarah is absolutely correct, I misspoke - it should have been DENNIS CARDOZA and Jim Costa, NOT Devin Nunes.

My apologies to Devin for the *slander.*

centralcal

"...and she looks like death warmed over."

Hasn't she always? Such a humorless woman!

Thomas Collins

Jane, I have been a juror in a criminal trial (two day trial), and was on a federal grand jury that met almost every Thursday months and months. I loved both experiences.

Jane

I was called for grand jury duty last year. It lasted for 2 years 4 days a week. I would have loved it. I knew the presiding judge so I didn't even have to ask to be excused. I wish I could have done it. Maybe when I retire.

Daniel Isaac Quillin

Yes, Obama is a Marxist or a Statist, if you like. But look at his core. What Obama is truely and simply is a Nelly Faggot.
