The NY Times continues to peck at the most transparent Administration in history:
U.S. Is Still Using Private Spy Ring, Despite Doubts
By MARK MAZZETTIWASHINGTON — Top military officials have continued to rely on a secret network of private spies who have produced hundreds of reports from deep inside Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to American officials and businessmen, despite concerns among some in the military about the legality of the operation.
Earlier this year, government officials admitted that the military had sent a group of former Central Intelligence Agency officers and retired Special Operations troops into the region to collect information — some of which was used to track and kill people suspected of being militants. Many portrayed it as a rogue operation that had been hastily shut down once an investigation began.
But interviews with more than a dozen current and former government officials and businessmen, and an examination of government documents, tell a different a story. Not only are the networks still operating, their detailed reports on subjects like the workings of the Taliban leadership in Pakistan and the movements of enemy fighters in southern Afghanistan are also submitted almost daily to top commanders and have become an important source of intelligence.
The American military is largely prohibited from operating inside Pakistan. And under Pentagon rules, the army is not allowed to hire contractors for spying.
Military officials said that when Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top commander in the region, signed off on the operation in January 2009, there were prohibitions against intelligence gathering, including hiring agents to provide information about enemy positions in Pakistan. The contractors were supposed to provide only broad information about the political and tribal dynamics in the region, and information that could be used for “force protection,” they said.
Fortunately it is neither George Bush nor Richard Nixon running a secret war and violating an ally's border.
And the larger issue is that the program does provide valuable intelligence.
This sounds like the sort of program that Candidate Hope and Change would have railed against in 2007. I guess we will find out how his energized base likes it now.
As the modern, state-of-the-art facility at Guantanamo Bay keeps humming along...

By the way, Barack Obama himself admitted his Hawaian birth was false:
In March 2008, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., Barack Obama claimed his parents united as a direct result of the Selma movement: QUOTE: “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.”
Obama's Hawaiain records claim he was born in 1961, but the Selma march took place in 1965.
Thus his parents would have had to have him after 1965, unless you want to tell us Baracks just a pitiful liar.

In other sporting news, the Tour of California (the bicycle race) came right through town today, a few minutes from where we live. So we went out for a greasy Chinese lunch, left the car there, and walked a few feet to a major turn, where we had great views over about 270 degrees. The location is also next to the famous "naked Indian" sculptures here -- they are about 20 to 30 feet tall.
In any event, a major bicyle race is quite interesting. There was a heavy Highway Patrol presence to keep cars and pedestrians off the race course. As the breakaway group arrived, there were all sorts of motorcycles with a camera guy on back; helecopters were overhead, and there was one support car per bike.
About five minutes later, the pack of the other 134 racers came buy, in a congested throng of color that flashed by in a few seconds.
Pretty cool.
The pack was so congested I had no way to identify Lance Armstrong or Levi Leipheimer, the favorite who has won the last three of these.
FWIW, this segment started in Nevada City and will finish in Sacramento.

There is, of course, so much I don't know, or can't spell. But, does it not seem odd that the Feds have not taken over the entire operation in the Gulf? Is it the usual practice to leave the clean up to the private parties? To me, it feels like a way for Obama to avoid having any responsibility for the clean up. I would feel better if I thought the Feds were all over it.
On the other hand, Obama's first words out of the box were that, by gum, BP would be held responsible for all costs. Is that where we are now? First things, first, like overspending.

Flip side, from John Bogle's "Common Sense on Mutual Funds": "With 5 percent of the world's population, we produce 25 percent of its goods and services."
Well, I suppose that really just reinforces Obama's point. After all, those goods and services go only for our benefit. We export nothing. We share none of our technology. We send no foreign aid to any less-fortunate countries. Etc. etc. etc.

Indeed, lefties from Bob Scheer to Noam Chomsky and Frank Rich have consistently criticized Obama for excessive militance in his approach to Afghanistan and his reluctance to follow through on promises to shut Gitmo, though on th e latter there is widespread understanding that he has little to no latitude to actually make it happen.
So lefties are clearly responding to the factual evidence that Obama is, in fact, right of center on foreign policy.

We know that Obama's approach to "solving" the oil rig problem involves blaming BP. Has he done anything constructive to deal with the issue? I know that early on he had Holder send some lawyers to New Orleans, and I read the other day that he's going to send some nuclear scientists down to the rig area. Both of those seem about as appropriate as dispatching a brain surgeon to deal with an outbreak of crop plague. Am I missing something about Obama's sophisticated approach to crisis management?

the factual evidence that Obama is, in fact, right of center on foreign policy.
Iran, Honduras.....
I realize that engaging you in anything is an exercise in futility because you're an ignorant liar who belongs at the children's table when adults are apeaking, but, assuming you even understand what a fact is, provide some examples along with an explanation of why they're "right of center" positions. For example, blowing up people with drones in Pakistan is not a right of center position despite what the bizarre cartoons that play in your excuse for a mind might dictate. Being right of center on foreign policy would mean support for people demonstrating against an oppressive unelected regime in Iran and support for the constitutional rule of law in Honduras.

No PD. It doesn't matter what leftists do. The media is just in awe of what big words they use and the speeches they give. They just demonize any company or individual or State that is trying to DO something.
"The beauty of doing nothing is that you can do it perfectly. Only when you do something is it almost impossible to do it without mistakes. Therefore, people who are contributing nothing to society except their constant criticisms can feel both intellectually and morally superior."

He went to Cairo, spoke at Al Azhar, the fount of contemporary jihad, in stone's throw of the Citadel, where they probably couldn't hear the speech in light of the screams from the prisoners there, and spoke of Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, and about the dangers of 'imposed
democracy from abroad"
It wasn't long after that, Aulaqi probed the first time, with the attack on the Little Rock army recruiter post, then Ft. Hood, the Christmas Day Flight, and now
Times Square, what's next to wake them up

bunkerbuster's blinders won't allow him to see that Obama's foreign policies are so incoherent that he's come in for criticism from the whole range of politcal partisanship. For bb, selectively reading the criticisms allows him to persist with the parochial mindset he has.

We've all figured it out, bb, but you haven't; your need to delineate boilerplate progressive ideology is boring. We've heard all the dissonance before. We vote sweetness and light.
