Matt Drudge is on fire! Having swept the field in the US, Matt Drudge has bested the BBC and is poised to conquer the British media.
These charts and graphs attempt to discern the traffic patterns for UK newspapers. Google drives the most traffic, providing 40 million hits per month. Direct hits are second at 27 million, Matt Drudge is third among all sources at 6.4 million, Yahoo is next at 3.2 million, and the venerable Beeb comes in fifth at 2 million.
So Drudge is hands-down the biggest non-search referrer.
Big deal - what has he done in other languages?
Let's see how he likes their libel laws.

Posted by: Parking Lot | June 29, 2010 at 10:25 AM
I forget what the topic was, something not even political, but I wanted to show a co-worker something and went to Drudge for the link. He said "Oh, yeah. He's qualified." As in, if Drudge linked to it you can't trust it. So I pointed out how Drudge links to the left's beloved sources like the NYT, and the guy's response was to repeat his "Oh, yeah. He's qualified." with an exaggerated eye-roll as he walked away.

Where is the chart showing how much traffic JOM directs to Drudge?
Posted by: Dave (in MA) | June 29, 2010 at 10:32 AM
I find the least informed people are those who get their news the old fashioned way. When people fuss about Drudge explain he's an aggregator and show them what that means,,it saves time linking to stories from every major media source and viewpoint,,,At first they remain sceptical but then may start going their themselves.
I know . I once was there myself.
Posted by: Clarice | June 29, 2010 at 10:33 AM
When I worked in London, we all linked to Drudge since it was the only way to get the Lewinsky story. I still have him on my blog list and when I travel - UK, Belgium, France, et.al. you get local ads on Drudge just like you do on JOM.
For example, right now I am being asked by the 'Turismo de Lisboa' to visit Lisbon and the ad is in Dutch (Flemish). Before that, I was being told that the best deals on DVD's was at NHA in Belgium. The top ad is for the WSPA against dog meat. Or as they say in Flemish 'hondenvlees'. JOM is truly a global community of concerned, traveling movie goers.

((New Libel Law Proposed In The UK; Gives ISPs Two Weeks To Respond)) June 7 2010
It's no secret that the UK's defamation laws are extremely problematic. They've longed been used for "libel tourism" as well as to silence critics. There's been a lot of talk in the UK about fixing those issues, but little action. Now it appears that a new libel bill has been introduced that, among other things, will give ISPs a 14-day window to respond to claims of libel. This seems sort of half-way between the typical "notice-and-takedown" and "notice-and-notice" proposals we've seen elsewhere. A two week window could actually give an ISP the chance to get a response or a challenge from the creator of the content before taking it down. However, not surprisingly, some are claiming this window is way too long, and ISPs should be forced to take down any content that is called libelous. ))

The single most important thing about the Kos/R2000 story imho is that Kos had written a book how awful conservatives are, and - at the point when he was already putting "finishing touches" on it - he got cold feet and worried that he didn't have any actual evidence to back up his claims. So he commissioned a poll from Reseearch 2000. And amazingly, the poll results were just peachy ducky perfectly in tandem with the conclusions he'd already reached in the book!
The book is called American Taliban: How War, Sex, Sin, and Power Bind Jihadists and the Radical Right.
Kos says via Twitter “No premises in American Taliban depend exclusively on R2K polling.”
Sure, they don't.
