The First Emoter finds his inner George Bush and tells us he is out looking for "ass to kick" on the BP Gulf oil spill. Gosh, its reassuring to see our President enraged and engaged.

I have it on good authority that Vice President Biden delivered a can of whoop ass to Obama yesterday and he and his advisors are currently deliberating about the best way to open it. The first concern is that Biden may have accidentally shaken it up while bringing it to the White House in his clown car. They've also commissioned a study on cans with pull tabs to determine the likelihood of injury to Obama's pull finger should it prove to be one of those pesky, hard to open tabs. A potential solution is to simply point the can of whoop ass away from the president and utilize a can opener, but rest assured our best and brightest are working this out as we speak.

Since ass-kicking is the motif here, is anybody curious that with all the blah-blah about Il Douche's love for basketball there haven't been any clips shown of, you know, him actually playing the game? Particularly given the willingness of Axelrod's ilk to find things to make B+ look good. I think the answer is easy: Like Castro at baseball and Chavez at anything other than filling a toilet, he's no goddamn good. Or to take liberties with Sheldon Lee's phrase: He ain't got game.

Good riddance to both, though I have a feeling wingnuts won't let the Thomas affair interfere with their view, which was formed in the absence of fact and logic in the first place.

DOT--Just in from AP:
Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, long the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of a U.S. teen in Aruba, has confessed to killing a young Peruvian woman in his Lima hotel room, a police spokesman said.
Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra, told The Associated Press that Van der Sloot admitted under police questioning Monday that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30.
*****
Unless Peru agrees to let him serve his sentence in Aruba, he is much worse off than a conviction on the Halloway case would have gotten him, and, of course, Aruban authorities look terrible, having released him to murder again.

The President has made so many rookie mistakes--where to begin? First, never play politics when you're in crisis management mode. The crisis will kick your ass and politics won't save you. He's learning this one the hard way.
Always clearly delineate objectives, areas of responsibility, chain of command, accountability measures, rewards, penalties, timelines--you know, the stuff that the Manager at Jiffy Lube knows how to do.
Build a team. FDR hated public utilties until he needed them to win WWII. The President should not have alienated BP. They were already getting their asses kicked by the laws of nature. The President should have built a coalition of energy companies, allies, state, local, and federal agencies, citizen groups. Who puts up sandbags in a flood? People with skin in the game, and they don't ask about cost.
Sell your plan. Stakeholders want the executive to succeed, and they're a helluva lot more likely to support you if they know you have a plan. Tactical failures can be explained, but you better be able to find your ass with both hands.
In other words Mr. President--epic fail.

I simply don't get it. Despite all that has happened in the last 2 weeks, this morning Obama's approval ratings are up! He's been pretty rock solid at around 47% for months; this morning RCP is reporting 48.2%.
This is a very serious problem. We here at JOM might understand how incompetent this administation is, but the flim-flam is winning in the public opinion polls.
I'd have thought that the environmentalists would have started abandoning ship, and that the Jews would be seeing the light. And after those high profile parties at the WH, I'd have thought that blacks would begin to wonder if he really was "one of us." Etc., etc., etc. But it ain't happening.

Her remarks were offensive, but considering her journalistic moxie and courage over many decades — in sharp contrast to the despicable deeds committed by so many littering the Washington political scene — isn’t there room for someone who made a mistake, apologized for it and wants to continue speaking truth to power and asking tough questions?
