The Dude

Nobama couldn't kick ass in a geriatric ward.

Abe Froman

I have it on good authority that Vice President Biden delivered a can of whoop ass to Obama yesterday and he and his advisors are currently deliberating about the best way to open it. The first concern is that Biden may have accidentally shaken it up while bringing it to the White House in his clown car. They've also commissioned a study on cans with pull tabs to determine the likelihood of injury to Obama's pull finger should it prove to be one of those pesky, hard to open tabs. A potential solution is to simply point the can of whoop ass away from the president and utilize a can opener, but rest assured our best and brightest are working this out as we speak.

Captain Hate

Since ass-kicking is the motif here, is anybody curious that with all the blah-blah about Il Douche's love for basketball there haven't been any clips shown of, you know, him actually playing the game? Particularly given the willingness of Axelrod's ilk to find things to make B+ look good. I think the answer is easy: Like Castro at baseball and Chavez at anything other than filling a toilet, he's no goddamn good. Or to take liberties with Sheldon Lee's phrase: He ain't got game.

Janet

Yeah Captain...it is all a fraud.
LUN is a link from Peter from the other thread about Obama's grades. The MSM tells us he's so smart...prove it.

Speaking of myths:
The speed and unanimity with which the U.S. press shitcanned Helen Thomas should lay to rest the wingnuttery about the press tolerating, let alone embracing, the view that Israelis should leave Palestine.
Good riddance to both, though I have a feeling wingnuts won't let the Thomas affair interfere with their view, which was formed in the absence of fact and logic in the first place.

BobDenver

If Thomas had not retired, I submit that the White House Correspondents would have done nothing, except flap their gums briefly and take her nameplate off the front row seat. She did them a big favor, and now they can all pretend that they're not all gutless.

Gad, what hardened hearts they and you must have.

bunkerbuster, what amused me was the visceral response by the journalists when they heard one of their own speak the truth for once.

Janet,

Pew Research advises that a plurality have now tumbled to the fact that this moron has made the economy worse:

In June 2009, 53 percent of Americans said that Obama's economic program had not impacted the economy or that it was too soon to tell. But in the new survey, that number is down to 38 percent.

At the same time, the percentage of those who say Obama's policies have made things worse climbed from 16 percent a year ago to 29 percent. Twenty-three percent said his policies had made things better compared to 26 percent last June.

Glenn Greenwald discourses on our adversarial, watchdog Fourth Estate gamboling at the Bidens' water-pistol party for "journalists":

I personally don't think that these types of interactions "violate journalistic ethics" because I don't think such a thing exists for them. Rather, all of this just helpfully reveals what our nation's leading "journalists" really are: desperate worshipers of political power who are far more eager to be part of it and to serve it than to act as adversarial checks against it -- and who, in fact, are Royal Court Spokespeople regardless of which monarch is ruling. That's why they're invited into the heart of Versailles to frolic with the King's most trusted aides: it's their reward for loyal service as Court courtiers. Just marvel at the self-abasing joy in which Ed Henry wallows by virtue of getting to play water sports with Emanuel and the Bidens. He sounds like a gushing pre-adolescent who just met his favorite boy band idol and got his water gun signed. Digby asks, quite rhetorically: "do you think this sort of thing makes it easier or more difficult for journalists to maintain their independence?"

DOT--Just in from AP:
Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, long the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of a U.S. teen in Aruba, has confessed to killing a young Peruvian woman in his Lima hotel room, a police spokesman said.

Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra, told The Associated Press that Van der Sloot admitted under police questioning Monday that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30.

Unless Peru agrees to let him serve his sentence in Aruba, he is much worse off than a conviction on the Halloway case would have gotten him, and, of course, Aruban authorities look terrible, having released him to murder again.

Second rig leaking might mean that not all the oil in the gulf is BP's problem.

Old Dad

The President has made so many rookie mistakes--where to begin? First, never play politics when you're in crisis management mode. The crisis will kick your ass and politics won't save you. He's learning this one the hard way.

Always clearly delineate objectives, areas of responsibility, chain of command, accountability measures, rewards, penalties, timelines--you know, the stuff that the Manager at Jiffy Lube knows how to do.

Build a team. FDR hated public utilties until he needed them to win WWII. The President should not have alienated BP. They were already getting their asses kicked by the laws of nature. The President should have built a coalition of energy companies, allies, state, local, and federal agencies, citizen groups. Who puts up sandbags in a flood? People with skin in the game, and they don't ask about cost.

Sell your plan. Stakeholders want the executive to succeed, and they're a helluva lot more likely to support you if they know you have a plan. Tactical failures can be explained, but you better be able to find your ass with both hands.

In other words Mr. President--epic fail.

Danube of Thought

The navy, as usual, has its own contribution: He couldn't find his ass with a five-hand working party.

Wasn't that about putting the gun up the reporter's butt?...and now Obama and ass kicking. I'm beginning to think these leftists have a tushie fetish.

Obama the furious one can use the gladiator name...Buttocks Glorioso

bgates

He's learning this one the hard way.

Well, he's experiencing it, anyway. Learning seems a bit much to hope for.

I was meeting with fishermen down there, standing in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be

I'd have thought the fishermen would have had enough sense to come in out of the rain.

Captain Hate

Laura Ingraham just had something about Il Douche putting together a task force to sell the public on the benefits of Bameloreid Death Care. This should be seen as a high colonic to all the squishes and eeyores (AllahPerezHilton, I'm looking right at you) stating that repeal is a winning issue and not to shy away from it like the gutless Repukes would have you.

LouP

I simply don't get it. Despite all that has happened in the last 2 weeks, this morning Obama's approval ratings are up! He's been pretty rock solid at around 47% for months; this morning RCP is reporting 48.2%.

This is a very serious problem. We here at JOM might understand how incompetent this administation is, but the flim-flam is winning in the public opinion polls.

I'd have thought that the environmentalists would have started abandoning ship, and that the Jews would be seeing the light. And after those high profile parties at the WH, I'd have thought that blacks would begin to wonder if he really was "one of us." Etc., etc., etc. But it ain't happening.

I. Just. Don't. Get. It!

Danube of Thought

Lou, there are scores of millions of Americans who hardly pay attention to political matters even at election time, let alone in off-years.

The Raz numbers on Strong Approval and Strong Disapproval among likely voters are much more meaningful, because they tend to focus the sample toward the people who are staying abreast of events.

jimmyk

I. Just. Don't. Get. It!

I still haven't gotten the original 53%, so I've given up trying to explain the current numbers. But it may be like Clinton--people hate his policies, hate the Dems in Congress, but just find him personally irresistible (tingle, tingle).

Danube of Thought

Katrina van den Heuvel muses on the vile harridan Thomas:

Her remarks were offensive, but considering her journalistic moxie and courage over many decades — in sharp contrast to the despicable deeds committed by so many littering the Washington political scene — isn’t there room for someone who made a mistake, apologized for it and wants to continue speaking truth to power and asking tough questions?

I just love "speaking truth to power." That asinine phrase really makes those dopes feel good, doesn't it.

gmax

Katrina babblespeak translate, we think Helen was right, just should not have been so honest about her intention. Why she could have gone on and on about Free Gaza ( just like Free Mumia ) and the humanitarian aid and how horrible it was for the peaceful residents of Palestine, and we would have all stood back and cheered. But now we are forced to push her off the plank, elsewise folks might see that a mere scratch below the surface reveals the left is but a fascist waiting for an opportunity to exploit.

The insanity of one is understandable, but the comments agreeing with him are really frightening.

DOT, I hear 'ya. But the low percentage of voters - which is what? 20%? 30%? - that pay attention and are engaged, don't win elections. It's that vast body of uninformed voters, who have a vote that counts just as much as mine and yours, that win the elections. They're not getting it, and they're going the wrong way.

"Truth to Power" was the first big lie. The real, secret motto for that crowd is "Spin, Blame, Lie to Power."

That rise in Obama approval is due to the addition of the usual Obama rescue poll from ABC/Washington Post that just came out with him at 52%. It is an all adults poll with a big Dem sample. On a lighter note... And I know this wouldn't work and probably would backfire badly, but...

Wouldn't you like to see the INITIAL reaction from the Left if Bush, Cheney, and Rove were to call a joint news conference and declare: since they are going to get the blame anyway for all that the Obama administration can't and won't do, they have decided to volunteer to come back and fix the mess that the Left accuses them of leaving, and that Obama is incapable of dealing with ...

"UNREAL: Students Get Partial Credit For Incorrect Answers On N. Y. State Math Test; Some Students Received Credit For Not Even Answering Questions"

Remember the leftists want everyone to be able to register to vote. How many students functioning at the level the article indicates do you suppose voted for Obama?

Danube of Thought

Ed Morrissey takes a look at the internals of that ABC poll:

Now would be a good time to look at that sampling. Despite numerous polls this year showing the partisan identification gap between Democrats and Republicans narrowing to its smallest number in at least five years, the Post’s sample shows 34% Democrats, 25% Republicans, and 38% independents among the registered voters in this survey of the general adult population. To put that in perspective, Barack Obama won the presidential election in 2008 with a seven-point advantage in the national popular vote — in what was a big turnout year for Democrats.

In April, Gallup put the partisan gap down to a single point. Take the eight point advantage away from Democrats, and that opinion of Tea Parties would undoubtedly shift back into positive territory.

That might also have some impact on Barack Obama’s approval rating, too. They have it at 52/45, down from 54/44 two months ago. That eight-point shift would more or less reverse Obama’s approval rating, putting him in roughly the same position as Gallup and Rasmussen, in the mid-40s or lower. Even without the correction, Obama is seriously underwater on the federal deficit (39/56) and now on the oil spill (44/49). Obama got his best rating in months on the economy, just as jobs have started to slide again, 50/49.
