James Webb of Virginia, a rootin', tootin' gun-wavin' real man turned Democrat, provides his cover version of "Working My Back To You" in the Wall Street Journal.
"You" is white voters; the titling:
Diversity and the Myth of White PrivilegeAmerica still owes a debt to its black citizens, but government programs to help all 'people of color' are unfair. They should end.
End affirmative action? Not while Barack is President! And maybe Webb has plans to address that problem in 2012. Or maybe this is just a huge CYA for his own Senate race in 2012, as he tries to open a few miles between himself and his party's "leadership".
Stephen Green, the VodkaPundit, has more.
Calling all way back machines.

Somewhere there's a fire Webb should be dying in. Is Allen still considered a viable candidate in the state where Katie Couric went to college (Jefferson would be sooooo proud) so that the voters can respond to how they were duped by the Downtown Daily Worker? Then Webb can go back to writing books for NAMBLA members to enjoy.

Allen is a very viable candidate to replace Senator Macaca in '12. Putting Senator Macaca's vote on the preference laden FinReg abomination alongside of this mealy mouthed expiatory swill will be high on his campaign manager's to do list.
Webb may think of this as a Blue Dog declaration of independence from the Kendonesian commie but that wasn't Kool-Aid in the chalice which he and every other Blue Dog drained.

It's interesting to speculate why the rats are jumping ship, but I'm more concerned by the complete absence of GOP leadership. Who is there to consolidate the gains and exploit the enemies losses? Who will lead the counter attack? The enemy is starting to fragment. Soon they will be in full retreat. We can't, like Meade after Gettysburg, stop at the Potomac.

Webb's article illustrates one of the problems with affirmative action. Regardless of invidious discrimination, one must also look to cultural factors in situations such as he describes:
What he's not explicitly saying is that Jews, Catholics and Mainstream Protestants (Episcopals, Presbyterians and Methodists, dying breeds all) value and seek education. "Other" whites...not so much. Are there cultural reasons for this? Possibly so, but no one wants to talk about it much--they'd rather look for a new, vote-rich victim class.
Webb is, of course, piggybacking on the findings of a book length study by two Princeton sociologists, which gained a lot of attention as a result of Ross Douthat's NYT take off: The Roots of White Anxiety--did TM not read his NYT on July 18?
What about discrimination, in addition to cultural factors? Douthat cites Russell Nieli, How Diversity Punishes Asians, Poor Whites and Lots of Others, but without offering the gory details:
For those arguing discrimination, I'm guessing that numbers like those will be compelling in Virginia, even though that Commonwealth possesses quite a number of first rate colleges and universities.

Jane, sue posted that hot air thing last night. It's so poorly written it's almost useless to me. I think that it indicates that ACORN was working hand in glove with the Obama campaign which gave it the list off maxed out donors; ACORN then tried to get more money from them which they used to assist the campaign.
Surely, it adds to what we know but i think the bigger corruption was the Dems refusal to allow a full panel on the FRC to oversee the election and Obama then dismantling the online monitoring of donors.I am persuaded that millions of illegal funds were obtained that way and there was no way to stop it in time.

No, I think the left owes blacks an apology, not the rest of us. The institutional racism of the past is gone.

I don't care about Webb's motivation. The point he's making is valid. The problem he's highlighting has corrupted our entire country, virtually every institution. AA has given us Obama, the CRA and resultant real estate bubble and crash, multiple Supreme Court justices, thousands of government functionaries and probably millions of under-qualified students and employees all throughout the land.
AA is unconstitutional and immoral. It violates our founding documents and is inimical to the concept of fairness itself. If Webb could create an opening for eliminating AA, I think I'd vote for him myself, classless scheming scumbag or not. Besides, if he gets any level of support from voters, it could cause a huge bloodbath in the Democratic Party.

KABUL — Two U.S. troops are missing in eastern Afghanistan, a military official said Saturday. An Afghan official said one may have been killed and the other captured by the Taliban. Also, five American troops died Saturday in bombings in the south where international forces are stepping up the fight against the insurgents.
A NATO statement Saturday said the two service members left their compound the previous day in Kabul but did not return. The statement did not identify the pair by nationality but U.S. officials said they were American.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. The military has dispatched vehicles and rotary-winged aircraft to search for them and their vehicle. Local official: 'They came down the wrong road'
Samer Gul, district chief of Charkh district in Logar province, said Saturday that a four-wheel drive armored vehicle was seen Friday night by a guard working for the district chief's office. The guard tried to flag down the vehicle, carrying a driver and a passenger, but it kept going, Gul said.

I am a Virginia voter.
Webb is dead to me.
A man is known by the company he keeps, Webb is in lockstep with the Socialist-Communist cabal running the administration.
Any single no vote from Webb would have stopped Healthcare, the Financial industry takeover, and numerous other fellow-traveler bits of legislation.
Nope, Webb is known as someone who can be counted upon to do the master's bidding, he is safely on the reservation, . . .errr plantation.
So, how to publicly open space between himself and the cabal, all the while remaining a countable, reliable vote on piece after piece of legislation to destroy our country?
Ha - write a clever column -- provocative !! daring !!! Webb-of-old !!!! -- which can be pointed to as distancing himself from the Administration, while still voting to support every piece of anti-American legislation.
Hey Webb, we are all racists now, your column is so last year.
CRAVEN. DISGUSTING. DISINGENUOUS. Webb is in league with communists and socialists. When did Webb turn red, ehh?
When did Webb become a eunuch? I guess that is why the person Webb loves the most, is himself.
What a piece of stuff Webb is.
I think more than a few JOM readers, Webb and I took a durable oath to:
". . . solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
When did Webb give up on the constitution?
TRAITOR.
Take good care,

An examination of the data regarding delinquencies and chargeoffs suggests that the payday loan provision, like several other provisions in FinReg, was preparing the backdrop for Act II of the financial crisis occasioned by Democrat control of Congress. At two full years into this mess, delinquencies continue to rise and chargeoffs have barely paused.

3 minimum wages in 4 years from Pelosi and Reid.
It is particularly brutal on African American male teens.
Stupid economic policies have consequences.
This is a serious problem that consistently goes under-reported. A challenge to journalists who fancy themselves "social conscious"....give this story the coverage it deserves.

Is Collusion the same as fraud?
I would really like to see the right give Anita Moncrief the help she needs to put a lot of political hurt on the leftists.

Pagar-
I would say it's akin to money laundering.

America owes not debt to its black citizens. This is utter claptrap. Not one black alive to day was a slave or the son of a slave. No other ethnic minority group in our history has been so coddled and catered too. We have had a great Civil War, ushered in a immensely destructive welfare system and have debased our educational system and the meritocracy of America, such as it was.
If anything, they own us. This is utter nonsense.
It is a fake as global warming. If anything, they own America for decades of welfare an special treatment.
Enough of this. It was Democrat electioneer back in the '60s; it is democrat electioneering now.
"Civil Rights" is the chief method the Left came to power in the USA. They used it quite cynically and it is time that we admit it.

"2 AM phone call"
Drudge doesn't seem to know Texas has been invaded. Anyone see any sign that any one cares? Are we just going let them take over America? It must be obvious to everyone in the world by now that American borders mean nothing and will not be defended.

"a memory like... one of those metal catchy thingies."
Me too. Think it's called a colander.

America owes not debt to its black citizens.
It seems like Obama has allowed you and Jim Webb to say these things, and if nothing else, overcoming that hurdle is progress.
Oh and I agree that no reparations are owed. It's a con game.

Now Sister Toldjah says "Texas has not been Invaded so apparently disregard my 07:16 PM as far as the Texas part.
Posted by: Pagar | July 24, 2010 at 07:33 PM

I read Drudge's biography on wikipedia recently ... it is interesting and a bit wierd

I still remember a libertarian military guy who came out in support of Webb. He said that although Allen supported all the things he believed in and did a good job he felt that Webb with his military background would do a better job. I wonder what he says about that now. He also supported Obama because he thought Obama had a better grasp of economics than McCain. Kinda makes you wonder about those who support these people.
I have come to the firm belief that our intelligentsia are so used to dealing with words that they spend all their logic on what these pols say instead of looking at what they do and therefore support those who really do not have their best interests at heart. And they don't seem to understand that at all. Webb is just another case in point.

Lyndon Johnson, and Jimmy Carter both had "military backgound" dick. Didn't seem to help, did it?

dick, so this guy thought it more important for a Senator to have a military background than a president?
Can I have his phone number? I have some wonderful business opportunities I'd like to talk to him about.
