"Vote out a Dem in 2010!

What a great bumper sticker idea.

How about vote out every Dem in 2010!

Extraneus

I don't see how Evan Bayh escapes the fact that he voted for Obamacare.

He was in the perfect position to come out strong against the health care takeover and cement himself as a serious player, and quite possibly a contender for 2012, but he apparently calculated that to do so would lose him the liberal vote in the primaries.

Even though that's not who'll vote for the person who defeats Obama.

Dave (in MA)

He was good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, felons voted for him.

Danube of Thought

I have to keep reminding myself that when Scott Brown was elected, we all knew we weren't getting Barry Goldwater. We were just getting somebody better than Marsha Coakley.

Janesquaredance

Ignatz,

I wasn't always this thick. It's just when I try and do 5 things at once. And you were right about the characterization - I keep getting pushed further and further toward revolution and the NBP thing nearly pushed me over the edge. For some reason I think that is about the most important story of this presidency.

Clarice

There's that, too. Extraneus.

narciso the harpoon

Well I won't go that far, just my mob name for now

Dave (in MA)

DoT, now he's planning on voting for the "financial reform" bill. He's no Goldwater; he's apparently turning out to be cut from the Snowe/Chafee/Collins mold.

Speaking of MA Senators, did anyone else see Edge of Darkness? What was your impression of the MA Senator in the movie?

Sue

You know, in years past, I was one of those that said throw the RINOs out. That was before the Obama, Reid, Pelosi juggernaut became a reality. If Scott Brown, and the Bobsie twins have to be RINOs to keep getting elected in deep blue states, then I have come to accept it as part and parcel of removing ourselves of these damned clowns running the show. As long as there is an R after their name, they are helping put Reid and Pelosi out of their positions. I can live with it.

Sue

Of course, I have the benefit of not being a conservative in a blue state. It must be absolutely aggravating to have a republican senator that seldom votes conservative.

fdcol63

Typical Hollywood portrayal of a GOP senator. LOL

Neo

AT least six people have been killed today in what police were calling a domestic violence workplace incident in America.

Dave (in MA)

fdcol63, that's just the thing. I thought the guy was obviously supposed to resemble John Kerry, but he was a bad guy so when they showed him on the TV news they put (R-Massachusetts) after his name even though it had been 30 years since there was a Republican Senator from here.

Tom R

I watch a lot of Red Sox games on NESN and during commercial breaks there is a constant barrage of anti-Brown political ads that you can tell are funded by likely funded by progressive organizations.

Its looking like Brown is no different than any other politican and that his main priority now is to get re-elected. If that means betraying his conservative roots in a blue state, then I guess he thinks its worth it.

DebinNC

NYT on 12/19/09 after Cornhusker Kickback got Obamacare enough Senate Dem votes:

Lawmakers who attended a private meeting between Mr. Obama and Senate Democrats at the White House on Tuesday pointed to remarks there by Senator Evan Bayh, Democrat of Indiana, as providing some new inspiration. Mr. Bayh said that the health care measure was the kind of public policy he had come to Washington to work on, according to officials who attended the session, and that he did not want to see the satisfied looks on the faces of Republican leaders if they succeeded in blocking the measure. LUN

Bayh was pivotal in inflicting Obamacare on us...but not him.

fdcol63

Dave, I noticed the parallel to Kerry, too. But the Hollywood people had to get their usual dig in on the GOP, and it WAS fiction, you know. LOL

narciso the harpoon

Texas Darlin was the name of the Puma blog you were asking about

Janesquaredance
If Scott Brown, and the Bobsie twins have to be RINOs to keep getting elected in deep blue states, then I have come to accept it as part and parcel of removing ourselves of these damned clowns running the show.

I'm not feeling quite so gracious. I actually believe he is doing what is right, but sheesh, who is helping him figure it out?

Janesquaredance

So according to Kelly, everytime a decision was due on the NBP's case from Justice, the #3 person Perelli (?) made a trip to the WH and met with Cassandra Butts, Obama's BFF from law school. We are talking 5 or 6 times where the visit was made and then the decision was made.

Butts was WH counsel in charge of domestic policy and ethics. I kid you not.

Extraneus

Thanks for that, Deb. I vaguely remembered that scumbag comment of Bayh's, and I'm glad to hear it again on the day we read about Dem governors whining about the politics of the AZ suit rather than the substance of it.

Danube of Thought

Brown's announcement on financial reform was what prompted my last post.

Megyn Kelly just put forth a detailed and very incriminating timelineon th NBPP dismissal. Clearly a political decision made in the White House.

Clarice

AP--WH walks back NASA Bolden's remarks. (A very bad day for the WH, I think.)

WASHINGTON – The White House is contradicting the NASA administrator's claim that President Barack Obama assigned him to reach out to Muslims on science matters.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently told Al-Jazeera network that one of the charges Obama gave him was "to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering."
Some conservative activists criticized the remarks.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that such activities are not among Bolden's assigned tasks. He said administration officials have spoken with NASA about the matter.

Sue

Drudge has a headline reporting the WH is denying the NASA remarks about Muslims. Hmmm...what now, brown cow?

Sue

Should have refreshed before posting.

matt

it didn't even have to go that far, DoT. It's in their DNA. It may have, but after the CIA waterboarding fiasco, the NY Terror Trial fiasco, etc, etc, etc, we have an Attorney General is both monumentally incompetent and monumentally corrupt enough to do it all by his very own self if he so chooses.

If it has White House fingerprints on it great, but Holder is hanging himself regardless.

As to voting the bums out, be careful what we wish for is all I have to say. The republicans howed themselves supreemly incompetent and just a tad less corrupt than the Dems in 2000-2006.

If there was any meaning whatsoever in voting for the individual over the party, perhaps it would work, but I am deeply afraid the same old party hacks and incompetents will arise once more.

Over lunch yesterday I got a real picture of the Fiorina campaign, and it is the same stand for nothing Republicans glomming onto that campaign that pretty well killed the party in the state.

JM Hanes

Jane:

"the Obama campaign gave ACoRN nearly $900,000 for their work on his campaign."

Actually, that was just a single outlay in New Orleans.

Sue:

"As long as there is an R after their name, they are helping put Reid and Pelosi out of their positions. I can live with it."

Welcome to the Dark Side :-)

Janesquaredance

How do we determine if this policy was ever repealed?

US Attorney General Michael Mukasey [official profile; JURIST news archive] sent a memo to top Justice Department staff Wednesday advising them of a shift in DOJ policy that will limit who can discuss ongoing investigations with the White House. After he was nominated as attorney general, Mukasey promised that the DOJ would maintain greater independence [JURIST report] from the White House, saying that he would forbid DOJ employees from discussing sensitive cases with outside agencies. In his memo, Mukasey said that communications with the White House about ongoing cases will be limited to cases that are determined to be necessary to the president's ability to carry out his constitutional responsibilities. Only Mukasey or the deputy attorney general will be authorized to initiate discussions with White House staff, and then only with the White House counsel or deputy counsel. If necessary, a DOJ aide can be designated to continue discussions, but Mukasey wrote that the "designation will be limited to the fewest number of people practicable." In addition, the associate attorney general and solicitor general will be authorized in limited circumstances to discuss civil lawsuits and appeals without prior authorization from Mukasey or his deputy
fdcol63

Jane, Holder may never have "repealed" it, but I don't think that was necessary to "ignore" it. LOL

Janesquaredance

If you look at the history, Sheldon Whitehouse, John Conyers and Dick Durbin were all over Justice for consulting with the WH.

They are utterly silent today.

JM Hanes

Porchlight:

"Seems like if Clintonistas were involved in any way with this project, there wouldn't be any issue with funding."

I think you're certainly right about the Clintons, if not the Clintonistas. Even if her current position in the Obama Administration didn't preclude it, I think the Hillary campaign never made irregularities an issue in the first place, because they've got their own corrupt secrets to keep. I can't imagine them endorsing any investigations, especially when President Obama is now in an even better position to "discover" and exploit such info than Candidate Obama ever was.

Clarice

Ms Fernandez made clear in a hearing in 1997 that she viewed the Civil Right Division's jobs as advocating for minorities, not whites. Her position and that of a number of people there whom Holder put in charge was well-known. They would not prosecute blacks for voting rights violations and would not do what Motor Voter required of them. A bouncing ball from there to the WH is simply gilding the lily..they put these people in charge precisely to do what they did.

More on Bolden from Fox:

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that NASA Administrator Charles Bolden must have misspoke when he told Al Jazeera last month that one of his top priorities is to reach out to Muslim countries. "That was not his task and that's not the task of NASA," Gibbs said. Bolden, though, said last month in the interview that it was President Obama who gave him that task. He made a similar claim in February. The White House also backed up Bolden last week when his remarks first stirred controversy.

Gibbs talks B.S. walks.

fdcol63

The WH backed up Bolden until they recognized how toxic his statement really was. LOL

Neo

Next week Bolden will doing his outreach to Wiccans.

Tom R

If the WH did not instruct NASA director Bolden to reach out to Muslims as Gibbs proclaims, then why in the world was he conducting an interview with Al Jazeera in the first place?

BTW is this the first time the AP has ever reported on the NASA/Muslim outreach issue?

Clarice

Now, consider the efficacy of Ms Fernandez' position. Most rational voters think the Civil Rights Division and Voting rights Acts have really outlived their need. The only blocs of voters who seem to think its mission should remain unchanged are not those the Division thinks it should be suing.

Welcome to D.C.

Extraneus

What will WaPo, NYT, ABC, NBC and CBS fans think if they read or hear about the NASA thing for the first time? Of course they probably won't.

Sue

JMH,

Welcome to the Dark Side :-)

I know. That is exactly how I felt when it first dawned on me that was how I now feel. At this point, it is survival mode. Bring on the "R"s. Whatever stripe they might be.

Jane:

It's not a question of repeal. With few exceptions, the Atty General can set and unset DoJ policy as he sees fit. I think Holder & Obama are ideological peas in a pod who maintain only enough public distance to hid the ball between them.

"I keep getting pushed further and further toward revolution and the NBP thing nearly pushed me over the edge."

What exactly do you mean when you talk revolution?

Porchlight

The White House also backed up Bolden last week when his remarks first stirred controversy.

What did they say to back him up then?

If it takes them this long just to realize how damaging the remarks are....well, the country is screwed anyway, but you get the picture.

fdcol63

I can't wait to see video of female Muslim astronauts spacewalking in their burkhas.

They can go into space, but still can't drive a friggin' car in Riyadh. Go figure.

Porchlight

Cap'n, thanks for asking, but I must plead total ignorance of Ms. Borges. I am admittedly so out of the loop since having kids. Are you a fan?

Extraneus

Heh. I don't think Muhammad said anything about space travel, so unless there's a fatwah, they should be able to go. But only with their husbands or close relatives, or on an all-woman crew.

Neo

I can't wait to see video of female Muslim astronauts spacewalking in their burkhas.

I laughed for a good 3 minutes.

The WH is re-purposing the space shuttles to replace the bus under which they have heretofore thrown the poor shmucks who committed kinsleyan gaffes -- because there is more space under a shuttle than a bus.

All you wingnuts who say Obama doesn't care about space are proven wrong yet again. Priceless. Lol.

Captain Hate

Yes Porch, in fact she'll be playing here in early August. She only has 3 discs out and at first sounded like an alt-country type but her last 2 discs have been a lot more indie rock-ish (they're on the Sugar Hill label which I usually associate with bluegrass but I guess they're trying to foster a roots-rock identity) with a pop-ie feel to 'em. I'm sure you can do a search for her (I'd be shocked if she doesn't have a website) on sites like allmusic and hear clips of her stuff if you're curious.

Mantran,

That's the right address but I don't have anything from you.

This Michelle Obama at the NAACP article repeats the lie about racial slurs at the March Tea Party. LUN

Here is a good comment - "I have never attended a "Tea Party" or for that matter a "NAACP" meeting but I would like to know if there are more black people at a Tea Party meeting than white people at a NAACP meeting. It seems that the letters NAACP would seem to be more exclusionary so which group is more racist?" Heh!

fdcol63

The "CP" in NAACP makes it an exclusionary group. LOL

Danube of Thought

Allan Lichtman predicts Obama wins in 2012.

Danube of Thought

This assessment of the House prospects is good, but not as good as I'd like.

Janet

Maybe he will win. Between the Americans that don't pay attention to politics, those that are misled by the media, and the cheating Dems....It's possible. Kevin Jennings is still the safe school Czar...heck, we even have Czars! and nobody is outraged. The government took over private businesses...and it doesn't seem to matter.

Porchlight

Cap'n, Mr. Porchlight's band used to be on Sugar Hill too. Now they're on Yep Roc which is actually more indie rock and less rootsy, generally. Increasingly labels don't seem to make much difference anyway. I will check her out - I think I've heard the name, probably associated with SXSW. Thanks for the tip!

Ralph L

The Pelosi photo on Drudge: is that at Byrd's funeral, and is that really a white sheet over the casket?

Re Allan Lichtman, apart from the fact that about half his "keys" may change in the next year, this caught my eye:

Can you say "shifting goal posts"?

Janet

Well, I couldn't believe Obama was elected in the first place....not with the middle name of Hussein & knowing hardly anything about him. Even with our sorry candidate I just couldn't believe it.

Maybe NASA got the religion wrong. Wasn't it Farrakahn that claimed to have been aboard a giant spaceship orbiting the earth? Instead of Muslims he meant to say the Nation of Islam? Whaddaya' think? Plausible. And the contributions to science of Farrakahn's orbit would be invaluable.

Danube of Thought

I had a similar reaction to Lichtman--a couple of his "trues" may become "falses," or may even be false right now. But I think he and another researcher were the ones who brought us the news years ago that something like 90% of reporters were Dems.

And I'd bet my bottom dollar that his prediction in 2000 was simply that Gore would win.

Sue

Later, she added, “As I tell my kids, dessert is not a right.”

Michelle Obama, at the NAACP today. I didn't realize it was stand up comedy today. Because anyone that has seen her fat ass knows she isn't passing up the dessert plate.

 Ann

Here is MO's speech:

Fat Behind Speech to NAACP

It is filled with doozies like "desert is not a right". But does anyone actually believe MO walked to school in the snow w/o shoes?

In these kind of strong African American communities, we went to neighborhood schools around the corner. So many of us had to walk to and from school every day, rain or shine. I know you’ve told that story. (Laughter.) And in Chicago, where I was raised, we did it in the dead of winter. (Laughter.) No shoes on our feet -- it was hard, but we walked! (Applause.)

And she's not selective in who she's trying to keep from eating pie: she wants to http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/31711322>take Barack's pie too:

Parking Lot

Just by coincidence I copied this recipe earlier today.

Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant Key Lime Pie
Makes 1 9-inch pie

Crust ingredients
1 wax paper-wrapped package graham crackers (1/3 of a pound box)
or
1 cup,
2 1/2 tbsp graham cracker crumbs
5 tbsp melted unsalted butter
1/3 cup sugar

Filling ingredients
3 Egg yolks
1 1/2 tsp Grated zest of 2 limes
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

Topping ingredients
1 cup heavy or whipped cream, chilled
1 tbsp confectioners sugar

For the crust:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-inch pie pan. Break up the graham crackers; place in a food processor and process to crumbs. (If you don't have a food processor, place the crackers in a large plastic bag; seal and then crush the crackers with a rolling pin.) Add the melted butter and sugar and pulse or stir until combined. Press the mixture into the bottom and sides of the pie pan, forming a neat border around the edge. Bake the crust until set and golden, 8 minutes. Set aside on a wire rack; leave the oven on.

For the filling:
Meanwhile, in an electric mixer with the wire whisk attachment, beat the egg yolks and lime zest at high speed until very fluffy, about 5 minutes. Gradually add the condensed milk and continue to beat until thick, 3 or 4 minutes longer. Lower the mixer speed and slowly add the lime juice, mixing just until combined, no longer. Pour the mixture into the crust. Bake for 10 minutes or until the filling has just set. Cool on a wire rack, then refrigerate. Freeze for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.

For the topping:
Whip the cream and the confectioners' sugar until nearly stiff. Cut the pie in wedges and serve very cold, topping each wedge with a large dollop of whipped cream.

Some day I may tire of ranting on Michelle Obama and pie,but today is not that day!

Yes, Rob. The hero was a policeman with the Amalgamated Regional Militia. There was very little crime, as every crime was punishable by death -- because there was a drastic shortage of organs for transplant -- and every upstanding citizen would happily convict anyone on any kind of evidence in order to increase the supply.
