Barking bugs.

Cockroaches howl at the full moon.

daddy

"This is the weirdest JOM thread in recent memory."

I concur Porchlight,

Why it's almost End Of The World sort of stuff, no? Which is fascinating because guess what JOMer's"

This day 24 August, exactly 1,600 years ago, was ">http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11066461"> The End Of The World!!!

From the BBC: 24 August 410: the date it all went wrong for Rome?

This was the day when the Barbarians, after a hiatus of over 800 years, finally came in and sacked Rome. It hung on a bit longer til I think Odoacer (cool name--- think it's pronounced Oh-Doe Whacker) booted out the last Roman Emperor and took over.

Anyhow, 24 August 410, was the astounding date when after a couple centuries of broken government, terrible leadership, internecine fighting, out of control taxation, failure to control their borders, and various Eastern religions invading the place and corroding the values upon which the City was built, finally all resulted in the Barbarian's at the Gate coming through the Gate.

I suggest Italian on the menu in honor this evening---but skip the whine (errr wine) and instead chase the Italian with some good barbaric German Beer:)

Happy End of the World Day JOMer's! To the Poles!!!

Janet

That is fascinating daddy. I think some of those cro magnonish barbarians were my distant relatives.

I wonder if that Methodist Seminary will have any classes on the rhubarb god or the multiple armed monkey god? Perhaps it would be a good place for Obama's Presidential Library.

Appalled

OK, folks, the full moon seems to have got y'all on this thread, because this is bizarro world tonight. From what I can tell, Valerie Plame is a Muslim in league with Turkey (or is it Libby that's a Muslim) and is helping fund a Victory Mosque in Ground Zero, the fact of which proves to Bunkerbuster (if he really exists and isn't a sockpuppet of hit and run), that all Republicans are Racist and DoT's Mother wears army boots, and andruil has a most eclectic collection of conspiracy theories clacking around in his head.

Is that an approximate summary of the recent conversation?

Clarice

I believe tonight is also the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

All in all--compared to Rome and Britain--we've come off well.

Janet

Is that an approximate summary of the recent conversation?

The only bit I'll add is that I believe there was some speculation that various posters on JOM had been shot in the head but didn't realize it.

daddy

Clarice,

Interesting your comment that we knew the Imam was a radical but gave him funds for his Mideast Tour anyhow.

Did you catch how we gave $400,000 to Gadaffi's 2 kids to run their "charities", yet the Telegraph reported that the money to pay for the Lockerbie Bomber's Cancer Treatments was coming from the Charity run by Gadaffi's son.

I might blog it when I got to the hotel here in China. I'm in a ">http://source.yeeyan.org/view/161619_6c5/China%20traffic%20jam%20stretches%20'nine%20days,%20100km''"> Chinese Traffic Jam currently and they say we should arrive at the Hilton in about 7 days, give or take a few. But on the plus side, thank goodness it's not a Chinese Fire Drill:)

Perhaps it would be a good place for Obama's Presidential Library.

This assumes he would locate it in the United States.

Captain Hate

I've always appreciated McCain's position on earmarks so that is a tough one.

Is that his real position or just something he throws out there for "my friends" and then ignores?

Btw, I watched "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" tonight and, even though I think Woody's a perv and a douche and the subject matter is something I'd ordinarily avoid, I really enjoyed it a great deal; particularly the Rebecca Hall character.

daddy

Anybody have a good link to the election results? I'm floundering what with all the censored sites over here.

Janet

I know that really isn't Obama in the picture Ann because he would never wear that big of a flag lapel pin. You can't fool me!

Danube of Thought

Why would you quote Farrakhan to represent your own opinion?

I didn't, you beetle-witted simpleton. My intention was irony, which is a difficult notion for some to grasp. I said something to the effect of, "as Minister Farrakhan might say, it's a gutter religion."

I'm coming round to the conclusion that your comments are simply too dumb to warrant responses. I think most here are already there, but I myself have been having great sport with you. But it is beginning to resemble the sport of bullfighting, and as much as I love taking batting practice or smashing pinatas without a blindfold, I am contemplating letting you rave on without the benefit of my instructive commentary. I'll let everyone know very soon...

 Ann Mongrel

LOL Janet!

btw, should be sending hats by the end of the week. I am donating my orange Club G'ITMO hat for the cause. :)

Janet

Wonderful idea Ann!
Here is the link so everyone can see what has gone over so far. LUN

daddy, Politico has a clickable election results map.

Appalled:

Speaking of the full moon and people who think I'm multiple people on JOM . . . you know who this thread really needs...

Janet

True Hit...I'd forgotten about that. I do not mean to make fun of all Methodists. The leadership & hierarchy in a lot of mainline denominations have gone kooky...but individual congregations aren't necessarily pleased either. I know my parent's little Lutheran congregation doesn't know what to do.

Pofarmer

Off the read Atlas Shrugged, then to bed.

Clarice

daddy, I did see that about Gaddafi and just assumed it was a pay off for something or another.

daddy

Thanks DebinNC,

Nothing's up there now for Alaska, so am off to toast (Oh Doe Whacker) and the Barbarian's!

BTW, Other great names from antiquity that really give you a feel for the guy: Nobody really knows how to pronounce them but I go for:

Cathagus (Kuh Thay Gus)----- oooh. Slimy character I think from the Cataline Conspiracy.

Ahenobarbus (Uh Heen-o Bar-Bus) Sounds like an ass-kicker to me!

Sylvia (Sil Vee Uh) Complete nutcase!

See you guys tomorrow:)

Porchlight

you know who this thread really needs...

Bite your tongue, hit!

Sue, sorry I didn't get back in time to change the subject, but it seems the primaries have done that on their own. Scott over McCollum is pretty crazy news. And if you didn't see Geraghty's tweet:

It appears Marco Rubio is the first Senate candidate in Florida history to get more than 1 million votes in a primary.
Pofarmer

"you know who this thread really needs..."

Don't. You. Dare.

anduril

Let me start with what is truly important:

about Plame, the ATC, Richard Perle et alios

Wouldn't the ablative be the proper oblique case here?

Yes. I can see I need to be more careful around here.

DebinNC

Should be interesting to watch Obama try to vote present in the Crist v. Meek face-off.

Porchlight

Is it a full moon? I thought everyone seemed a bit wee-wee'd up.

narciso

'beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice,' hit, you're just tempting fate.

Bill in AZ

All I can say is fuck McAmnesty and all the money and "my friends" money he brought in to this election. AZ and the country will be worse off for it.

Threadkiller

yo, McCain is so stupid when he says "my friends" he still can't "name names."

DrJ

Is that his real position [opposition to earmarks] or just something he throws out there for "my friends" and then ignores?

McCain's opposition to earmarks is true, and well known to those in AZ who are angling for such. Ask me how I know...

Bill in AZ

Maybe the appropriate expression is "fuck McAmnesty and the RINO he rode in on"

Appalled

Evidence of Full August Moon madness...

* DoT discussing the context of his Farrakahn quotes

* Celebration of the anniversary of end times, at daddy's place

* Pofarmer thinking to read Atlas Shrugged in an evening.

* Methodists contemplating strange God classes

* And, finally, the howl of cockroaches (courtesy of Kim, who surely realizes this is a sign of global warming).

Good night all, and lay off the Muslims and the Southern Comfort. Thanks.

DrJ

CNN calls it for McCain. Too bad. (see Geraghty at NRO.)

Captain Hate

DrJ, how do you know? I'll read your answer in the morning.

Threadkiller

YO YO, McCain is so dumb, he thinks "Southern Comfort" is Lindsey Graham's amnesty program.

Clarice

The no. 1 thing Republicans must do if they win is fiscal reform--cutting off funds and programs with a meat axe. I don't think McCain will be bad at that, and I think he smells which way the wind's blowing on amnesty..

DrJ

CH,

In a former life, I held a pretty senior position in administration at Arizona State University. Some of us were plotting how to get a new building or two on campus, and were discussing congresscritters and senators we could lobby to get an appropriate earmark. I brought up McCain's name, and those who had spent much more time in AZ (I was still pretty much a CA boy) simply smiled and said, "he doesn't do that."

This, from the institution who had the mayor of Tempe (the town in which ASU resides) on the payroll, complete with office, and absolutely no duties. I never once saw him there.

McCain's opposition to earmarks is real.

Cecil Turner

Well, I see some of that got lost in translation.

For those who care, Sibel Edmonds is the founder and president of the National Security Whistleblowers' Coalition (NSWBC), a VIPS offshoot with many of the same members (including stalwarts like Daniel Ellsberg), and a certifiable nut job. Anduril claims (or at least links as a homepage ref) to be Mark Wauck, the FBI agent who first outed Robert Hanssen for espionage (but was ignored by FBI CI superiors). It's becoming all too believable.

Danube of Thought

I prefer the waxing gibbous. Once the full arrives, it's all downhill for a couple of weeks. Sad...

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

Earmarks versus TARP? earmarks versus Amnesty? pffft! Just McAmnesty showmanship to look tough on penny ante nonsense that all of them participate in that doesn't mean anything in the big picture. The money and "my friends" he brought in to screw up several of the races here is what irritates me. Fortunately, he is not winning all of his "12 in '10" RINO races.

Danube of Thought

CecilT, I think we have all come to understand who and what Anduril is. In short, a nuisance who can't be ashamed enough to take a hike, and whose presence we must tolerate as we scroll by to read items of interest.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

cont... earmarks versus cap and tax?? McCapAndTradeAmnesty still believes in that too....

Cecil Turner

Yeah, typepad really needs the names at the top of comments. Still, that one struck me as funny.

Threadkiller

YO YO YO, McCain is so dumb, he thought "12 in '10" was a porno.

And on that I hope to never burden you with "the dozens" ever again.

Goodnight. :-)

DrJ

Earmarks versus TARP? earmarks versus Amnesty? pffft!

Please name the earmarks that McCain has sponsored and brought to AZ.

Stephanie

(( Anduril claims (or at least links as a homepage ref) to be Mark Wauck, the FBI agent who first outed Robert Hanssen for espionage))

Dang, I thought he was Deep Throat. He's swallowed so much cultist jizz, you can understand how I was mistaken.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

Who cares? They are insignificant compared to the rest of the crap he enables. Cap and Trade? Amnesty? Please name an earmark that even remotely compares to what that crap will bring down on the country.

--I didn't, you beetle-witted simpleton.--

Oh man, that's funny. Thanks for the laugh DoT.

DoT says: ``The neighborhood is precisely the issue with respect to the mosque. No one objects to its being built at a more respectful remove.''

I have seen no clearer, more concise demonstration of the fundamental dishonesty of the mosque's opponents than that. Were there a legitimate or credible concern that the mosque represented terrorism or terrorists or would encourage the terrorism in any way, its opponents would have no reason to tolerate it two blocks further from ground zero, or 20 miles away, for that matter. If the truth is instead that the mosque's threat exists only in the emotional responses of its opponents, then, as DoT admits, those opponents naturally have no reason to oppose the mosque at what they feel is a "respectful" location.

And, DoT as for your multilayered ever more fanciful ad hominem, at least you're no longer confessing to spending time imagining me in sexual ways. That's improvement. Just be sure, whatever you do, don't preen!! lol.....

daddy

Yippee, Yippee Yippee, Ann,

Say it is so. I do not dislike Lisa, but she is not part of the solution she is part of the problem. Especially with another 6 years under her belt.

She is Olympia Snow and that other gal Collins, but coming from a much more Conservative environment, so she is well couched in conservative verbiage. If she loses, this IMHO is a good thing, if for nothing else, than the message it sends nationally about squishy Repub's. Go Miller. Voted absentee for the guy last week. An unpolished politician, but I will take him in a heartbeat over Lisa.

Captain Hate

Looks like it's Miller Time!!! Another great night for the Tea Party, Palin and America!

Whatever happens, his pettiness shows Bill McCollum didn't deserve to win.

Good morning! Keeping fingers crossed for Miller. Bill in AZ, I am as depressed as you about McCain. Yeah, I saw it coming, but still hoped for a miracle that he would be tossed out. Praying for Rubio and hoping Crist will be toast in November. Good news about Allen West.

boris

WRT one of the lamest of straw dummies ...

A mosque built at a more respectful remove would clearly be a "defeat mosque" instead of a "victory mosque" and hence less effective as a motivational inspiration for promoting jihadism.

daddy

Rats, Typepad ate my previous.

Great news that Lisa Murkowski is losing in Alaska. She (IMHO) is simply another Olympia Snow or Susan Collin's, but more guarded in her opinions because of the natural conservative nature of her Alaskan constituencies. 6 more years and she would have been very difficult to unload. Her losing is great news and a sign that the voters have woken up.

As for the Lt Governor race, rookie Treadwell creamed Ramras, a sitting politician, by 2 to 1. This is great news. Ramras I have linked before and in my view is simply another unprincipled squish of a politician who would love nothing better than to be "the go to guy" on the morning shows with Mika and Joe on MSNBC to provide that "down home insight from exotic Alaska." He sucks. Yippee!

As for Sarah's replacement, Governor Parnell, he won, but his 2 Conservative opponents, Samuels and Walker split the vote which would have made it a nailbiter against Parnell. So he won, but overall more voted against him than voted for him. Hope he absorbs that message.

Anyhow, all in all Alaska did a damn fine job today saying Business as usual ain't cutting it.

Good job sourdoughs!

Narciso,

the only possible downside is that this shows the power of Fagan. I'm not kidding. No where else did the candidates appear but on his show. Our print media the ADN is so awful, that they leave an opening a mile wide for somebody like Fagan to exploit, and here is what potentially results.

Speaker in Waiting Boehner's completely accurate description of BOzo and the Clowns' economic disaster seems to have excited a raw nerve. Today's miserable durable orders results may take the market under 10,000 which would add a nice sting to the Speaker in Waiting's remarks.

I wonder when the Reps will start dating the current slide from passage of Obamacare? It's a decent dovetail and improves the narrative.

I sure hope the Obamas are enjoying their Floating With Feces vacation at MV. It's an appropriate coda to this spectacular Summer of Recovery.

DrJ

B-AZ

Please name an earmark that even remotely compares to what that crap will bring down on the country.

I agree with that, but I thought the discussion was about whether McCain's opposition to earmarks is real. I believe it is.

His beliefs, OTOH, are a real problem.

Jack is Back!

Forget Alaska. Rick Scott can buy Alaska and give it back to the Russkies:) Can you believe he may have spent as much as $50 million just to win a primary? And he did win in a state that will have more to say about 2012 than Alaska will, Sarah and all. Not dissing Alaska or Sarah but reminding all that Scott is a tea party candidate without Palin's endorsement and he goes up against a very savvy, successful businesswoman and politician in Alex Sink, our current State CFO. Scott much like Palin took on the state GOP organization and bought it with the most negative campaign in Florida's primary history. If he wins and Rubio wins in November, Florida could be the linchpin state in 2012. But more importantly, candidates that took advantage of 2006 screwup by republicans and Obama in 2008 are not faring well (i.e. Suzanne Kosmas is already down 4 to her republican opponent and Jim Klein is being outspent by Alan West). The teeth gnashing race is Alan Grayson, that scumbag in Orlando. He is a favorite of the radical-chic and has raised more money than necessary plus he is up against the Casper Milquetoast of republican politics.

BTW, Sarah is in Jacksonville this Thursday and we're going up to see her. Unfortunately, its titled "An Evening of Hope with Sarah Palin." God, how I hate that word in politics. I am a believer in what Chuck Knox used to say, "those who live in hope die in sh*t"."

Yes, DrJ was responding to my inquiry of McVain's bona fides on aversion to earmarks, since he's been such a craven dissembling squish in other non-defense matters.

Condolences to B-AZ; I wanted him gone too but there must be some deep divisions in the Arizona Repubs making it difficult to get rid of McAmnesty, similar to what we've had in Ohio with Voinovich.

anduril

LUN = "homepage ref"? Really? And here I thought I was free to link any site I wanted to link.

Sibel Edmonds is "certifiable"? Yet hasn't been certified? What does that say about DOJ-OIG--which "certified" in their report that her allegations appeared to have merit and should have been investigated?

So, "nutjob" is pilotese for: I disagree with you but won't give the reasons.

DebinNC

Looks like Medicare is doing its part to help Scott/Brewer/Angle/etc by forcing 3 million seniors to switch plans this fall, despite Obama's "keep your plan if you're happy with it" promise.

Jack is Back!

CH,

You guys in Ohio need an agent of change like Alaska had with Sarah who did change with guts and no money or like we did in Florida with Rick Scott who did it with money and no guts.

Jane

A couple of things: The pollers and predictors got it wrong in Alaska, Florida, and even District 3 in AZ where Quayle beat Moak (who was said to have overtaken him).

In Florida the turnout was 50% higher on the right, which really had only one contested race than on the left, and over a million republicans voted in a primary, the largest number since 1928.

It looks to me that Washington is out, Tea party and business is in, and the amount of interest has been grossly underestimated by the bean counters.

Captain Hate

Btw, with all the money that McShame poured into the primary, did the repeal of McCain/Feingold ironically help the old backstabber?

Sue

The Dow is falling. And falling. And falling. Hang on tight folks. Bumpy ride ahead.

Danube of Thought

Minus 20 at Raz today.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

Given the $20M headwind provided by McAmnesty (partially thanks to our contributions to his inept presidential run) the McAmnesty win over JD Hayworth was likely.

A lot of RINO money and unseen hands supported a lot of RINO campaigns throughout the state, and almost all of them lost probably due to the conservative bent of the voters who voted. Most of them were paying attention. One victory over a RINO was Maricopa County Attorney where Bill Montgomery won over RINO Rick Romley who was appointed as stand-in by the corrupt Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. This is good for Sheriff Joe, SB1070, and immigration enforcement.

The most disappointing outcome, and it is still very close, is for Andrew Thomas for AZ Attorney General who is behind by a few hundred votes this morning. He was former Maricopa County Attorney and had to step down to run for AG. There was a massive smear campaign launched at him, and even idiot conservative bloggers like EspressoPundit bought into it. That is probably the difference in the outcome right now. This race has implications for SB1070 and immigration enforcement at a statewide level, and since so much focus is on AZ and SB1070, it will have an effect on the country.

Captain Hate

JiB,

Well we'll be rid of Voinovich who is retiring, either because he can read the tea leaves or has no place to send the graft since his crooked brother died. Actually the bulk of Ohio, outside of the urban areas, is pretty conservative but has a pretty squishy Repuke party that seems to favor RINOs.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

Wow. Quayle's son won.

Dunno about Quayle yet. Silent for much of the campaign, but he put together two very powerful ads bashing Zero as "worst President ever", one of which received nationwide coverage, right at the last minute. I have no doubt those ads got him the win, and that is some political savvy to reject the "conventional wisdom" of the local leftist media to be centrist, and go straight to the heart of tea party folks. I just hope he is not the stealth RINO with some very astute guidance. From his ads he better not be or will get tossed in 2 years. If he is what he looks like from those ads, we need some more like him.
