Harry Reid: Health Reform Won’t Hurt a Bit ...

Except in Nevada, that is. In a July 21 letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Service Kathleen Sebelius, the Senate Majority Leader complains that ObamaCare’s cuts to Medicare will “result in a net reduction in payment to Nevada’s hospitals when they are unable to absorb such a cut.” Furthermore, he questions the method used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to calculate the payments to hospitals, and is “very concerned about potential effects on beneficiary access if this regulation is finalized without adjustment.”

Did Senator Reid finally read the bill, almost four months after passing it and a year after masses of Americans began to demand that Congress do so?

I bet they blame this on Bush too.

Jane

They are now reporting that Stevens was killed. I did a search on William Welch who was the disgraced prosecutor, who reportedly stepped down after he was held in contempt of court in the Stevens prosecution.

He was supposed to return to MA in shame.

Imagine my shock when I learned he is now working for Eric Holder, prosecuting, national security issues.

Anybody watching Rangel on the house floor right now? Hysterical

IIRC the Dept of J still owes us a public report on the (mis)handling of the Stevens case.

The democrats never follow up on anything. They don't respond to letters, inquiries, subpoenas - all because the media lets them get away with it.

Ranger

Somewhat off topic, but just too funny to pass up... in http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/08/gibbs-reflects-on-inartful-comments/61217/>the first walk back of Gibbs trashing the hard left it this little nugget:

What rankles White House advisers is that Obama's critics question their motivation as much as their judgment. Motivation speculation becomes fact; predictions of doom become common wisdom. And the traditional media, eager to be current, magnifies the meta-commentary of professional liberals. And that becomes the discussion.

After dishing it out for 8 years, it looks like the Dems can't take it when it is turned on them.

Sounds like the perfect situaiton for a Special Counsel. Based on what's been going on for the last few years, I would say several are in order for the DoJ. On top of it, the Libby rule on co-operation should be imposed. See how many people stick around at DoJ when their choice is testify or quit.

Jane

I'm in Ranger. Who should be the special prosecutor? Clarice? DOT? The choices are boundless. (I am available to conduct discovery)

Porchlight

RIP Ted Stevens. Very sad.

Someone should ask William Welch how it feels to know that if it weren't for him, Stevens would probably be alive and in the Senate today.

 Ann Mongrel

You are welcome. I am home alone. Family is in VA for the week. Got out of it again this year. Woot.

However, I am sick about Stevens and mad as hell at the DOJ. When I think about all the carp they threw at President Bush and the lying creeps that set up Stevens.

Everything is a fraud.

May have been linked earlier but this USAToday story about federal workers making TWICE as much as private employees should set your blood to boiling.

Porch,

The senate is in recess isn't it? Odds are Stevens would have been on that plane regardless of what Welch did. Having said that...eff u Welch!

Porchlight

Me too Ann. I feel exactly the same.

Sue

Ann,

I heard that on the radio a few minutes ago. The "source" is now saying use caution in reporting Stevens' death.

Sue

I turned on Fox just as Rangel was winding down. Took him about 10 minutes to wind down. I thought it was a train wreck too, but it's nice to know someone else was thinking the same thing.

Porchlight

Perhaps he would have, Sue. I guess no one can really know. He wasn't perfect of course, but I still think it's just ridiculously sad to have been wrongfully convicted and then to die suddenly like this, with most people not even knowing the conviction was thrown out.

Since he was an Alaskan and had already survived a horrible crash, he must have known the risks and took them anyway. I imagine most Alaskans in public service or in any other position to fly often (such as daddy), must do the same.

Meanwhile, commenters all over the net are expressing the wish that it had been Palin instead. What a world we live in.

I suspect the title to this thread was being muttered under the breath of more than one democrat sitting through it.

Nice understatement. Per the FOMC Report

To help support the economic recovery in a context of price stability, the Committee will keep constant the Federal Reserve's holdings of securities at their current level by reinvesting principal payments from agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities in longer-term Treasury securities.

That's direct monetization, no ifs, ands or buts. The reason for the action is relatively clear but it ain't gonna do any good at all.

Jack is Back!

Anyway, what IS it about politicos from Louisiana and Alaska on flights over the Alaskan panhandle? This is a horrible conicidence, sort of like a photographic negative of the flight that disappeared (and still never definitively found, unless I missed something) in 1972.

Quin mentions the Hale Boggs/Nick Begich flight in 1972. He also mentions Lindy, Hale's widow who went on to serve his term and more in Congress. Her son Tommy, is the Boggs in Patton-Boggs, one of the top if not top of the top lobbying firms in DC. Did a lot with them back in the day and they are smart and connected. It certainly is a weird coincidence between both crashes. Surreal even.

If Blago goes down hard, just imagine the campaign adds with Obama spouting that "my top priority right now is getting Rod Blagojevic re-ellected governor of Illioins" to go with clips of him embracing Kilpatrick and Rangle to boot!

And if Blago skates, then it really does open up the question of why Fitz was in such a rush to end the investigation. In Chicago there is much speculation that Fitz new a deal with the team Obama was close, and the shut things down to prevent team Obama from being caught up in the whole thing.

Sue

NBC is reporting that O'Keefe and his son survived.

I also just heard that Stevens' son was with him on the plane. Not sure if his son is one of the deceased or not.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

Fitz will just bumble along and find another crime victim to prosecute. That dude lives in a different universe than the rest of us.

Ranger

BTW, the big new in the Blago trial is that the jury ordered pizza this afternoon. This is a first, and has press gathering at the court house in anticipation of... something to happen.

cathyf

Depends what kind of pizza. Chicago pizza is kind of a religious thing...

matt

Rick;

I caught that and was stunned. So what they are now going to do is to take principle from agency i.e. FNMA/FNMC backed mortgage securities and reinvest it in long term Treasuries. So that means that Fannie & Freddie will see reduced liquidity while we monetarize our debt. I wonder how Tokyo is going to react? London?
