Captain Hate

Laura Ingraham just kicked John Cornyn's ass all the way back to Texas.

DebinNC

Listen to Ingraham, Beck, Rush, Levin, Miller, Prager and many more online at Conservative Radio.

Jane (sit on the couch or save your country)

I love the Kasich video and that smug reporter there with John King. "Unbiased" my ass.

Porchlight

Rasmussen has Feingold down by 7. Obama was just there campaigning for him.

I think we'll take the Senate with or without DE.

Melinda Romanoff

Porch-

They vote in Milwaukee County more often than in Chicago.

FYI.

POS software

Yeah narciso -
school children visit mosque = educational
school children mention Christmas or Jesus = evil proselytizing.

Here is another double standard -
Reporter fired at the ABC station here in the DC area for supposed bias in pointing out negatives about Obama/greens vs ...well, um...every other reporter that is hired, given prizes, & praise for cheer leading Obama/greens.

Porchlight

I know, Mel. But if the margin is big enough....

Remember Kerry took WI in 2004 by only .4%. It is doable even against the fraud.

Melinda Romanoff

(I give you the sleepy, incredulous eye, with head back.)

We'll see.

DebinNC

Boston Globe:

"Wellesley’s school superintendent apologized yesterday for allowing middle school pupils to participate in a prayer service during a field trip to a Roxbury mosque last spring.

The apology to parents was made after a group that has been critical of Islamic Society of Boston Community Center — New England’s largest mosque and Muslim cultural center — released a 10-minute video featuring footage of Wellesley pupils bowing their heads during a prayer service."

New England's largest "mosque" goes by the name "community center". Hmmm...

Janet

My Mom would say, "If you have to be sneaky, you are up to no good."

Not that she ever said that to me....well, maybe a few times during that Circle D period!

Deb - That Richie Richman comment was too funny!

RichatUF

Mel-

Party pooper. I'm doubtful that Feingold could make that up in Milwaukee County.
Krugman makes his appearance today, blaming those thuggish Republicans for the tax mess the Dems are facing going into the midterm. If only the Democrats had control of Congress and knew ahead of time that those evil Bush tax cuts were going to expire December 31 2010.

JM Hanes

Deb:

"New England's largest "mosque" goes by the name "community center". Hmmm..."

Nice catch!

Janet

This Hot Air article about Mogliochetti singing to the Feds. will hopefully tarnish Rep. Jim Moran too. His name is left out of a lot of articles, but he was big buds with Murtha too.
He is just terrible...really, a terrible man.

As I said.

(It would be great, don't get me wrong. I'm just a bit cynical when it comes to Chicago's "Public Transportation".

Just currious, but does the new Dem logo look like the Drive gear indicator on an automatic transmision to anyone else? I get the feeling they really want to use that "put the car in drive" line as a national message over the next few weeks.

They vote in Milwaukee County more often than in Chicago.
Typically they vote in Chicago first, and then drive up to Milwaukee to vote in the afternoon. It's pretty much the same trip they take each month to collect their Wisconsin welfare check (with the phony Wisconsin address) that they collect in addition to their Illinois welfare check.
RichatUF

Ranger-

I think that is what they intended. It ought to go well with the teach-ins planned regarding Obamacare. Great ideas. The difference between 1994 and today is that the Dems have Obama.

Melinda Romanoff

cathy-

That "double-dip"" only restarted after the repeal of Welfare Reform, that was embedded in the "Stimulus" Bill.

You should see the first trains to Kenosha on Friday afternoons.

centralcal

heh, cathyf. I suspect you are very accurate in that assessment.

From Debs link

“Certainly in our tours we do not invite kids to take part, but if someone wants to come pray and take part, we shouldn’t prevent them,’’ said Bilal Kaleem, president of the Muslim American Society of Boston, which manages and runs the cultural center. “It’s more an issue with the school.’’

And from Breitbart

The Islamic Society of Boston was founded by Abdulrahman Alamoudi, who is currently serving 23 years in jail on terror charges. For years, its board of trustees included Yusuf al Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood who was banned by Bill Clinton from the United States in 1999. Qaradawi now chairs the Muslim American Society’s university, which offers classes inside the mosque. Over half the mosque’s $15.5 million price tag was funded by wealthy Saudis and since it opened, several of its leaders, donors and members have been implicated in Islamic extremism.

And more about the Muslim American Society from Daniel Pipes

they really want to use that "put the car in drive" line

Gas prices are up $0.20/gal since the last election.

Speaking of burning gas, the Senate Majority Leader takes convoys of SUVs rather than walk 100 yards to an environmental conference.

Speaking of environmental cars, the government will subsidize pricey electric cars with a $7500 tax break targeted for 'the rich'.

"The rich" will need the money to charge their electric vehicles, since Obama has said he plans on making sure American energy costs "necessarily skyrocket".

Speaking of destructive tax subsidies, the Obama administration's policy of paying people to destroy perfectly good used cars has reduced America's used-car supply and thus increased their price.

The government's going to lose money on the GM IPO.

Speaking of GM, the guy Obama picked to run that bailout says Obama was "out to get" the car companies.

Speaking of cars and what Obama gets, Obama doesn't understand car insurance.

By all means, let's keep the election focused on cars.

Rick Ballard

Rich,

Here's the Wisonsin Election site. They have Excel files with past results down to the ward level. I used the 2006 Governor results and you really don't have to use a Fantasy Island model to get to a Johnson win.

boris

Maybe one reason circle jerk Obummer can't get the car out of the ditch is too much reliance on circle D and not enough use of circle R.

JM Hanes

LOL, boris!

Porchlight

I have many of bgates' comments bookmarked. That's another keeper.

bgates is a treasure.

So Obama has known Elizabeth Warren since law school? If I were a kook, I would start to think a whole Harvard law school class conspired to see if collectively, they could create a President and fill the government with themselves.

Clarice

For this week's column I might job cobble together a couple of bgates posts sandwiched around Margaret Carlson's brain fart and call it a day.

JM Hanes

Hopefully, this is a new trend. If not, it's at least a positive development:

Thursday evening the National Republican Senatorial Committee released a statement regarding Murkowski.

"Alaska's voters have spoken, and have chosen Joe Miller as their Republican U.S. Senate nominee. If Senator Murkowski is truly committed to doing 'what is right' for her state, then we hope that she will step forward and fully endorse Joe Miller's candidacy," says NRSC Communications Director Brian Walsh, in a statement.

Stephanie

((If I were a kook, I would start to think a whole Harvard law school class conspired to see if collectively, they could create a President and fill the government with themselves.))

It was an assigned class project (let's play who was the professor) and the reason we can't be allowed to see Obama's grades is that the grade is currently "incomplete." Fortunately for us, it looks like that might become an F instead of an A. Disinterested slackers/students seldom get around to ever finishing up for that grade.

MayBee

Tribe was the professor. His current job in the basement of the DoJ is actually making sure everyone is doing their homework. Except for Obama. He is too important for that.

Porchlight

JMH,

My 4-year-old daughter answered the phone last night while I was making dinner and started talking to the person on the other end as if it were Daddy. He/she eventually hung up, to her great dismay. I checked the caller ID and it was the NRSC. LOL.

MayBee

Ha ha ha ha ha, Porch!

Maybe a couple of guys from the Board of Trustees at Columbia had a bet.

He graduated from there the same year Trading Places came out.

Don't feed my kookiness. I'm on the verge of thinking this is exactly what happened.

DebinNC

Interesting development in the DC mayor's race...Fenty's 822 write-in votes makes him the GOP winner.

Clarice

Really, Deb. I thin the GOP might actually back him along with the Dems who voted for him ..maybe he'll win yet.

DebinNC

WSJ offers a scenario in which Fenty could run as a Republican and win. That he's letting speculation build is very strange unless he's actually thinking about it...in which case we may see the first non-muslim fatwa issued.

centralcal

With so many political things to follows these days (arghh), I am completely ignorant about Fenty (know teensy little bit more about Rhee). What is the scoop, Clarice - was he good, lousy, whatever as Mayor of DC?

Threadkiller

--"Don't feed my kookiness. I'm on the verge of thinking this is exactly what happened."--

I only encourage kookiness. Tribe was one of only two people in this country asked to define "natural born", in 2008, for the Senate.

Surprise.

Porchlight:

LOL!

If you'd like to hear the other half of that phone conversation, skip to the 5 minute mark on this Shelley Berman sketch, called "Nephew Trouble." He was one of the first comedians to begin putting his comedy routines out on records, more than half a century ago (Yikes!). I was a child when I first heard it, but I still find myself occasionally saying, Berman-style, "I'm fine, thank you, fine" -- and having to tell myself it's not surprising that no one seems to pick up on the joke.

MayBee

My son got to do some volunteer work with Shelley Berman last summer. Great guy.

Porchlight

We had a Shelley Berman LP when I was growing up! It was this one. I will totally look for that sketch. Ha.

JM Hanes

MayBee:

In rooting around for the Berman piece, I got the impression that he was a really good guy too -- teaching. sharing insights with new crops of would be comedians, and poets, apparently.

Porchlight:

From your Amazon link, it looks like the sketch may also be known as "Dedicated to Parents."

Porchlight

Awesome, JMH - thanks. I'm sure my dad still has the LP - I'll ask him to burn it for me (yes, my 70yo dad is more technologically savvy than I am). In the meantime I can probably find it online.

We also used to listen to Nichols and May. I especially remember the "male nurse" routine. Makes me chuckle just thinking about it.

JM Hanes

Porchlight:

You can find it at the YouTube link I posted above. It's actually an audio of two sketches. The Nephew routine starts about 5 minutes in. Are you familiar with how the fast fwd/reverse slider works? It's one of those ones you don't really see till you mouse over it (above the pause button).

caro

we may see the first non-muslim fatwa issued.

Deb,how true!

Apparently the new movie, Waiting for Superman is all about education, highlighting what Rhee, and therefore Fenty, has accomplished in DC. Apparently it is excellent, though directed (or produced?) by the same guy who did An Inconvenient Truth.

caro

Apparently I have not seen the movie and I am perhaps apparently taking the word of others.

 Ann

Did you hear Sarah's latest?

'You Asked for the Job, Buck Up or Stay in the Truck' - Sarah Palin

Woot! Woot!

Watch her live on rightscoop here:

http://www.therightscoop.com/watch-sarah-palin-live-at-8pm-tonight

JM Hanes

Nichols & May! They also did an hysterical Christmas at the Kennedy White House, didn't they? Or am I mixing multiple sketches together? And of course, the spinach romance. Bob Newhart perfected the art, but he was definitely a new kid on the block phone compared to Berman. Tom Lehrer was a special fav, because he was adult content/parental guidance material, which was always good for a little frisson of illicit delight.

Extraneus

I saw a quote from Sarah today that didn't hedge very much regarding a WH run. Here it is.

Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'

Extraneus

Hey, so not too long ago, when Palin resigned, a lot of people said her one chance was if she was able to make a difference in the 2010 elections, and pick up some allies in the process. Well, she's in the process of doing that big-time.

Extraneus

While I'm on Sarah, is Krauthammer positioning himself to call her unelectable?

narciso

This had been mused over at the C4P blog, during the previous spring. Ex I was among the ones who, ironically thought practically, that she would have to run and become governor for another term, before she could run for the big job. The more unorthodox path was that suggested by an iconoclastic character named Techno, formerly part of Adam Brickley's blog, the one who brought her to public attention. He thought, that the only way to get out from under the ethics complaints and really influence the debate in the lower 48, was
to resign, it's the much harder path, but it's the one that in retrospect made the most sense,

MayBee

While I'm on Sarah

In your dreams.

Clarice

Fenty was okay..He picked some fine people like Rhee and the chief of police. He had the right idea about running the city. But he was a bit arrogant and in particular aid little attention to the old line black activists who killed him. It is now crystal clear that the blacks in this city care less about the education of their children than they do about getting a return to the old Marion Barry spoils system.

Fenty apparently has said he will not run on the Republican ticket even though he won the write in vote there.

Too bad,

narciso

That was a dispiriting note from last Tuesday, Clarice, that will be a bitterly pyrrhic victory for those involved

Rick Ballard

Cook Moves Five More Dems to Toss Up

His total 'Solid D' is now 151 which means 105 seats are at least somewhat vulnerable. Porchlight's 80 seats is now looking more probable than my 75. There is usually a brake of some sort on momentum at this point (for the "peaked too early" stories) but I don't see it at all. If the momentum continues we could see 100 seats change hands and what's his name - the tanned guy from Ohio - will really have his hands full in January.

Issa better be booking hearing rooms right now. I'm crossing my fingers for Arne Duncan first - where did all the stimulus money go Arne?

 Ann

Don't know what happened at rightscoop; I had to tune to CSPAN to watch her. Sorry for the bad info. She was terrific and if you missed it, it will be posted in its entirety at http://www.c-span.org very soon!

My husband still thinks the way she talks is a train wreck but he agreed with everything she said.

I keep telling him that smooth talking, white togas approved by the RNC are part of the problem.

Ex, I don't know if she will run or not. She is the most exciting person by far.

Sarah spent part of her speech telling the GOP, 'It’s time to unite!' Hope Rove and Krauthammer heard her.

Just heard via Tammy Bruce tweet:You Betcha. Palin drew the largest crowd in the history of the Iowa Republican Party’s Ronald Reagan Dinner.

Porchlight

JMH,

Oops, sorry, I didn't see you'd already linked it. Yes, I love that forward slider. ;) Will go check it out. And I almost mentioned Newhart - we have similar tastes. My parents used to listen to Lehrer too, and my brother took a math class from him at UC Santa Cruz.

Rick,

I don't see the brakes getting put on either. Hope Boehner and McConnell are up for the job.

I wouldn't mind seeing Issa put campaign fraud on the table first, just to alert everyone for the shenanigans being planned to help Barry in 2012. But I admit that might not be as relevant to the voters as stimulus fraud.

Stephanie

Porch are they separate or connected? How much of that stim money was actually walking around money and payoffs to certain favorable constituent groups and PACs? Acorn?

The voters are not gonna be happy until Clarice runs out of pikes.

Rick Ballard

Porchlight,

I look forward to seeing Holder sweating buckets as well. From a political viewpoint I'd rather see Obama's minions on the rack over abuse in education first. Stealing from children is a Dem specialty and sets the table for other malefactors.

Boehner and Cantor are both very capable wrt the House. I like the idea of McConell more as a Minority Leader in opposition to the President than as a Majority Leader in opposition. He'd be fine as a Majority Leader for the first Palin Congress though.

narciso

True, Rick, past is always prologue, re the CAC, also the community center that Air America pilfered for their financing

Ras--Deval Patrick in trouble.

Incumbent Democrat Deval Patrick remains slightly ahead of his Republican challenger Charlie Baker in the race for governor of Massachusetts.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Bay State finds Patrick earning 45% support, while Baker picks up 42% of the vote when leaners are included. Democrat-turned-Independent candidate Tim Cahill runs a distant third with five percent (5%), and five percent (5%)more favor some other candidate in the race. Two percent (2%) are undecided.

This race now moves from Leans Democrat to a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Two weeks ago, when leaners were included, it was Patrick 44%, Baker 42% and Cahill eight percent (8%). Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but answer a follow-up question and say they are leaning towards a particular candidate. The approach anticipates the fact that support for third party candidates typically declines as Election Day nears and voters begin to gravitate toward one of the major party nominees.

(Excerpt) Read more at rasmussenreports.com ...

narciso

That's well within the margin of error, which makes Cahill's candidac, problematic

Dave (in MA)
Democrat-turned-Independent candidate Tim Cahill runs a distant third with five percent (5%)
By comparison, slurpee and slim jim magnate Christy Mihos was running about 9% at this point in the race in 2006, and ended up pulling 7% in the election. Every time I turn the radio on they're running spots calling for people to get on TREASURER TIM CAHILL's abandoned property website to see if they have unclaimed money. I think he's using his office to campaign - I'm pretty certain these spots weren't running this frequently until recently. I also think his main objective is to keep the corner office in Dem hands even though he's running as an "Independent".
JM Hanes

Extraneus:

"While I'm on Sarah, is Krauthammer positioning himself to call her unelectable?"

If I were still in the irony business, Krauthammer's latest electoral cris de coeur would have won a prominent spot in my Sunday compendium:

South Carolina gave us Lindsey Graham ….. and a DeMint. Go figure.

JM Hanes

Has everybody counted the Lone Star State in their blessings today? If you're not giving thanks for Texas on a regular basis, you've got some catching up to do!

The state of Texas today sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in a federal appeals court in Washington DC, claiming four new regulations imposed by the EPA are based on the 'thoroughly discredited' findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and are 'factually flawed,' 1200 WOAI news reports.

I'm not sure if this next bit of news qualifies as a bona fide blessing, but it sorta kinda feels like one. Via Drudge: Judge Judy knocked Oprah out of the top rated spot in the 2009-10 season.

Clarice

Everything's coming up roses, JMH..
