MarkO

It did the job of keeping the DOJ corruption hearings off the NYT front page. Speaking of mockeries.

Jane

I want Lofgren to pay us back the $125k this cost.

Gmax

Any lovechild named Zoe should not be allowed to chair the snoball stand in my hometown, let alone a congressional subcommittee. When John Conyers is providing sage advice that is ignored, you are quite simple an idiot savant.

Gmax

John Kerry doing his best to increase the amplitude of the wave! This guy is a walking disaster, and the Democrats ran him for President!

A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.

“We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening,” Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.

Threadkiller

Why the GOP did not call Dennis Miller, as their expert, is a mystery to me.

Porchlight

I swear sometimes Kerry has to be an undercover GOP operative.

Jim Ryan

Good for Colbert. I don't care if he is a jerk or a lefty. Good for him. He did the best he could in the situation with the only wherewithal the good Lord gave him.

By the way, I wish people would stop calling the Democrats "corrupt" or "dishonest." Could you all please call them "people living with corruption" or "people living with dishonesty"? Thanks!

Army of Davids

A message for Mr. Kerry from this Tea Party dude.

I'm watching the (Smoot Hawley?) trade protectionist legislation that is feeling it's way through the halls of DC right now.

It is a mistake. And the 30 Republicans in congress who are supporting this are doing us no favors either.

It is government incompetence above all things that has put us here.

Jim Ryan

Just one question, what will Kerry be able to go to his deathbed knowing that he has accomplished with his life? At least a janitor can rest knowing he contributed to society.

Danube of Thought

Minus 15 at Raz today.

What in God's name were these people thinking?

MayBee

Is Colbert so insecure that he had to go to Congress in character? I have thought he was funny, but it was kind of sad to see a grown man hide behind an alter-ego.

MayBee

Kerry: so people are influenced by a simple slogan

snort!

RichatUF

Only -15. That is disappointing.

As far as the hearing goes, they needed a distraction and got it. I also saw that the Congress didn't take up legistlation to extend the tax cuts because they needed "a funny man" to provide the circus. So they have know for 7 years the tax cuts would expire and instead they wanted to put on a show presented by Viacom.

RichatUF

Good grief. I need more coffee.

PD

That hearing was an outrage. And I want the Democrats, in their infinite wisdom, to keep it up.

narciso

Radosh is usually pretty good, but sometimes he goes of track, as in the LUN

Jane

In response to the Kerry Quote, someone (PD?) responded: "like hope and change"?

Anyway I can't find it now but I stole it for You Too.

Extraneus

Unless someone has better info, all I've been able to find is that the Colbert appearance seems to have been scheduled on 9/22.

This letter from Rep. Frank Wolf, warning the DoJ not to interfere with Coates' decision to testify, was dated 9/23. I don't seem be able to find anything on when his hearing was actually scheduled, or when he went public with the decision to testify.

Has anyone seen definitive info regarding the chronology? It's almost unbelievable that Democrats would willingly provide the forum for such a ridiculous embarrassment as yesterday's Colbert appearance without a desperate ulterior motive, such as to provide the media with an alternative to the Coates hearing. Since it's so easy to use this to prove how un-serious Democrats are only lends more credence to the theory, but I haven't seen any proof.

Danube of Thought

RCP Average today:

Approve 44.9

Disapprove 50.6

Spread -5.7

Clarice

I think the Colbert-Stewart Mall rallies are designed to make fun of the tea party and Zoe called him to promote their show.
The NYT wouldn't have put the Coates' testimony on the front page if the only other thing going that day was a dog show in Manhattan.

narciso

The comments on the Caucus blog, re the Colbert stunt, are choice, and by choice, I mean 'insane'

PD

It was Janet over on the Ayers-Kennedy thread.

Ignatz

--I think the Colbert-Stewart Mall rallies are designed to make fun of the tea party....--

Yeah, poking a stick in an already agitated hornet's nest always has a happy ending for the guy with the stick.

RichatUF

narciso-

Pretty interesting that Radosh is looking at the entrails of defeat even before the vote are cast. How does Scott Brown's victory in MA fit into his thesis? Or Murkowski sticking around? I can't quite figure out why commentators are pinning "losing the Senate" on O'Donnell-the only fresh political blood produced in Delaware in decades, and more than a month out from the election, in an election season that no one months ago thought would produce such a shift in Congress. Are they hoping for that "I told you so" moment?

Clarice

I think we ought to shoe up at the Colbert-Stewart rallies wearing T Shirts saying I am Malik Shabazz
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/09/which_malik_shabazz_visited_th.html>Like the Scarlet Pimpernell he's everywhere

Clarice

I am so sorry..

Danube of Thought

Another good one, Clarice. I am really going to be following this one with great interest: if in fact it was a different guy named Malik Shabazz, surely he will step forward to resolve all doubts, won't he? And surely, if he doesn't, the watchdogs of the Fourth Estate will relentlessly dig until they find him, won't they?

RichatUF

I'm only making grammatical errors this morning.

Porchlight

Are they hoping for that "I told you so" moment?

I think so, Rich. And so are a lot of Castle supporters.

memomachine

Hmmmm.

1. A general public that views Congress with unveiled contempt and this Colbert thing is what the Democrats think is a good idea?

Are they drinking booze by the tanker truck over there?

2. Seriously. Who on Earth is going to take an entire day out to go to one of these two gatherings? Would you? Would you waste a perfectly nice day in what remains of the summer to travel to D.C.? These things are jokes, gags. Would you waste a nice day on a gag?

Janet

T Shirts saying I am Malik Shabazz

Very funny idea! I don't want to show up at the rallies though...don't want to add to their headcount.

Jane

Thanks PD, I gave her credit and fixed the post which made no sense as written. Story of my life.

Charlie (Colorado)

I think they're all bozos on that bus.

centralcal

I have FNC on in another room, and it is their business block of shows. Someone (Wayne Rogers?) just said that hidden in the health care bill was an 8% tax on the sale of homes. He gave an example of the tax - $11,000 on the sale of a $300K home.

Has anybody got any links or information about this?

Frau Clownerie

What a smashing finish Colbert could have had dressed as Peter Peanut.
Lou: " ... Chuckles the Clown is dead. It was a freak accident. He went to the parade Congress dressed as Peter Peanut and a rogue elephant tried to shell him."

centralcal

okay, just Binged it - 3.8% tax not 8%

Ignatz

Was just rereading Patrick Henry's great "give me liberty or give me death" speech and was reminded that it contains this wonderful line so useful these last couple of years:

Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope.

If you need to recharge the outrage batteries at what is being done to our country can't think of a better way than revisiting old Pat now and again.

Frau Clownerie

And to think I double checked my italics *twice* after Seeräuber Jenny's warning.

Amy just called me to tell me that her youngest walked into the house, turned on the TV and said:

Found this. Anything for a few extra bucks. That and the added capital gains taxes with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts ought to help real estate. I vaguely remember Old Lurker talking about this before Obamacare passed.

And of course, Krugman is at it again looking for World War II II.

Rich - thanks for that link.

Porchlight

I bet that is working well in the children's wards of all the hospitals.

Thankfully, the evil corporate Disney Channel is still on.

BTW I've noticed two anti-conservative jokes on Nick programming in the last couple of months. One was a Fox News joke; I can't remember the other. It doesn't surprise me they're buds with the WH on this.

centralcal

Oh, no doubt, Clarice. There is so much to absorb and I guess I missed that tax!

Preview is your friend, Clarice. :)

I was thinking I might cut and paste that a few hundred times and see if we can get to the next page!

Speaking of comedy clubs, Hillary's dear old pal David Milliband got it in the neck was handed the bitter fruit of the citron this afternoon as the Labour party chose as their next leader his younger, redder brother Ed.

The National Assn of Realtors apparently think it will be helpful for them. So they are trying to get Democrats elected.

Anyone else think a 3.8% additional tax on Home sales is going to boost sales?

Every decent American should be outraged at this latest stunt of the Democrats on the Hill.

These are the people that would take our wealth from us, regulate every aspect of our lives, including our very access to health care, and severely restrict the opportunities of our descendants. These are people who cannot do anything other but attack and destroy, uproot and overturn all that is good, noble and decent in this nation and this civilization.

They are not serious, sober and competent adults. They are of the lowest sort of vipers and villain. They are arrogant scum who daily demonstrate utter contempt for this nation, its history, its principles and its citizens. They have degraded and mocked our institutions to point where their recovery and reform may be an impossibility.

We cannot go on this way. If the American people cannot firmly and fully reject them and their works there is really no hope for our nation.

daddy the "Extremist"

Narciso,

That "Miller and the extremist Militia's" is making the rounds up here too.

1) ADN.">http://www.adn.com/2010/09/23/1468152/miller-candidacy-stirs-up-alaska.html">ADN.

2) ">http://alaskadispatch.com/blogs/political-animal/6920-the-militias-man-in-the-senate"> Alaska Dispatch

But on the bright side, Governor Parnell finally got off the fence and yesterday publicly endorsed Joe Miller over Lisa Murcowskee. Parnell doesn't have the courage to do something like this without having carefully viewed all the hidden polling, so I am heartened that he's reading stuff thats favorable to Miller. This is good news plus will help Parnell's re-election over the Dem Berkowitz.

narciso

It struck that this fellow Elliot sees nothing wrong with a Wahhabi mosque on the

daddy the "Extremist"

Yesterday I listened to Mark Levin's show when he was doing soundbites of the Colbert travesty in Congress.

When I read about that abomination this morning over at Insty's linked Pajama's Media story ">http://pajamasmedia.com/eddriscoll/2010/09/24/colberts-appearance-is-perfect-bookend-for-111th-congress/"> Colbert’s Appearance is Perfect Bookend for 111th Congress, Ed Driscoll added this update:

UPDATE: Oh my Lord. Speaker of the House Margaret Dumont Nancy Pelosi has defended Colbert’s appearance: “He’s an American. He has a point of view.”

Well what I remember from Levin's show, was not only that, but that the first words out of Pelosi's pie hole when questioned by the reporter about her opinion of Colbert's farce of a testimony, was that she said "I thought it was great!". Then she came in with that second bit of nonsense about how as an American he had the right to testify.

Please correct me anyone if I misheard that, but the fact that Pelosi "thought it was great" that he was doing this demeaning. disrespectful, disgusting, unfunny, inappropriate, inexcusable exercise in the first place was IMHO what should have been the headlines. She's a complete imbecile. Why the heck do she and Kerry and Lofgren and anybody else out there think we ought to respect Congress when they don't even respect the institution themselves?

Clarice

daddy, I thought that was good enough to use in my column this week. She is a total moron.

narciso

Yes, Nancy p. as our 'clean toga' talk show,
calls her, did say something so utterly inane

daddy the "Extremist"

Guy's,

Am I correct in believing that this moron, Zoe Lofgren, who organized this idiotic Colbert stunt, is this November running unopposed for re-election?

I've googled some but can't seem to verify that. If she is, is there any way to get somebody like Dennis Miller or any sane member of society living in her District to stage a write in campaign?

I would imagine that with this outrage, even nutcases in California (current JOMer's excepted of course) might be willing to dump her disgusting fat ass. Any ideas?

Heck I'd be willing to donate to Caligula's Horse if he was running against her.

Rob Crawford

A couple possibilities about the Colbert hearing:

o They think Colbert is an effective satirist. This means they think his schtick will actually convince someone, somewhere, that conservatives are wrong.

o They don't get that he's putting on an act/they don't get that it's not actually what conservatives believe. They think that by giving him a forum, they're "exposing the hate".

In any case, they clearly don't understand the message it sends to the country when they do this. A huge portion of the country's worried about the country's future, and they're consulting a comic. Particularly on an issue on which the public and the political class are so starkly divided.

daddy the "Extremist"

Clarice,

I'm sure I heard that but would love to independently verify.

Captain Hate---You're a Levin guy. Did I hear that correctly? I'm positive I did. Anybody know how to get that from his podcast?

Was probably in his first hour. I was out hiking so couldn't immediately comment on it, and so much other outrageous stuff happened yesterday that I didn't mention it until reading that PJ link this morning.

Daddy,http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/247789/lofgrens-gop-challenger-mark-krikorian>from the Corner:

Lofgren’s GOP Challenger

September 24, 2010 11:45 P.M. By Mark Krikorian
Silly me — I relied on the official http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/247767/you-cant-beat-something-nothing-mark-krikorian>California Republican party site when I said Lofgren didn’t have a GOP challenger. Big mistake. In fact, http://www.dansahagun.com/>Dan Sahagun is the Republican candidate for the 16th District. Given that his welcome message begins in Spanish, he probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but who cares — he’s not Zoe Lofgren.

daddy the "Extremist"

Clarice,

Here's ">http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/120839-pelosi-of-course-its-appropriate-for-colbert-to-testify"> The Hill wherein they say:

""Of course I think it's appropriate," Pelosi told reporters at the Capitol about the appearance, in video posted by ABC News. "He's an American, right? He comes before the committee, has a point of view, he can bring attention to an important issue like immigration."

"I think it's great," she added. "

I heard the "I think It's great" first, but whatever, there it is. Am sure it'll pop up on video. Am somewhat surprised that "I think it's great" isn't appearing with the later quote. Damage control by the Left perhaps?...

Caligula's horse was named Incitatus. I N C I T A T U S.

Now that would be a fitting write in campaign plus some truly funny comedy. Don't want to start that up here since we can't afford to wast the votes, but down in her district whats to lose?

See how many thousands of write in's of Incitatus, Caligula's Horse, could be mustered in Lofgren's re-election campaign.

Incitatus BTW means "swift" or "at full gallop".

And Caligula also tried to make the horse a Priest.

Jack is Back!

narcisco,

Meet her Republican opponent and then read his bio. The 16th District will never feel so lucky again but like a lot of Californians they will probably piss it away. LUN

His name is Edward Gonzalez and his position on immigration is no laughing matter.

Captain Hate

Captain Hate---You're a Levin guy. Did I hear that correctly? I'm positive I did. Anybody know how to get that from his podcast?

I'm listening to it now so affirmative.

Rob Crawford

Just any priest, or of a particular temple?

Interesting... remember the Clintonistas bemoaning that 9/11 didn't happen during his term, robbing them of their chance to "be great"?

[Caligula] used also to complain aloud of the state of the times, because it was not rendered remarkable by any public (274) calamities; for, while the reign of Augustus had been made memorable to posterity by the disaster of Varus, and that of Tiberius by the fall of the theatre at Fidenae, his was likely to pass into oblivion, from an uninterrupted series of prosperity. And, at times, he wished for some terrible slaughter of his troops, a famine, a pestilence, conflagrations, or an earthquake.

Next time you gripe about Hollywood, keep in mind that some things never change:

And in the piece called Laureolus, in which the principal actor, running out in a hurry, and falling, vomited blood, several of the inferior actors vying with each other to give the best specimen of their art, made the whole stage flow with blood.

Captain Hate

"And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honourable option. But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point. And so, it's not an option that I ever decided to pursue."

Obama coulda been a war hero . . . if not for fate.

Thanks for listening to that Captain.

The Hill above said she said ""I think it's great," she added. "

So I hope that's good enough for Clarice's point. Levin was on fire and very fun to listen to.

BTW, can you post a link to Levin's podcast for us and approximately where she says it. I think it would be worthwhile to call Dennis Miller's message machine with info and our opinions about that whole thing and see if we could get him to do a shout out next week for Lofgrens Repub opponent, this Marine Vet Ed Gonzalez, to help give him a fighting chance.
