Comments

anduril

Boy, the comments on the last thread were lame to the max! Present company excepted.

bunky

what she was a democrat fer a little while?

MikeS

It's not just witchcraft, but something called Pilates too!

Elroy Jetson

Having a bizarre background doesn't disqualify you from serving in the Senate. Robert Byrd comes to mind.

Don Draper

The next embarrassing Maher clip shows her cutting and pasting entire articles into the comments section of the nation's most prestigious blogs.

Clarice

Byrd? Hell, we had a murderer--Ted Kennedy. A traitor who hung with guys who wanted to assassinate Senators--John F Kerry. A total nitwit--Joe Biden. Need I go on?

MikeS

Al Franken?

Ignatz

These kinds of stories can go two directions and I've never been clear on what causes one over the other in each individual case.
Either the silliness starts to stick and she's sunk.
Or this really is all there is and people get fed up with the stupid attacks and it becomes an asset to her.
In this year of well earned "hate anything even close to the establishment", especially the marxist establishment in DC, I'm not so sure the second option isn't more likely in a race with some geek like Coons.

Don Draper

Barbara Boxer.

Clarice

Me, too ignatz. People saw what was heaped on Palin. She stood her ground and kept fighting and is becoming a more powerful political force every day. The scaffolding of the oppo is more apparent every day.

Ignatz

--The next embarrassing Maher clip shows her cutting and pasting entire articles into the comments section of the nation's most prestigious blogs.--

OK I was on the fence, but now, I say burn her, she's a witch!

Don Draper

"Al Franken?"

bgates

Need I go on?

There's 2nd-generation corrupt Senator Chris Dodd, enemy propagandists Dick "can't tell Gitmo from Dachau" Durbin and Harry "great news, we lost the war" Reid, short-tempered clown Al Franken, high school graduate Mark Begich -

you can name ten Senate Democrats more embarrassing to the country than Roland Burris, for crying out loud.

MarkO

Thanks to Obama, there's no minimum standard for any office.

hit and run

TM:
Christine O'Donnell dabbled in witchcraft? So she said...

To prepositional pedants everywhere, you're "to" letters short of accurately capturing what she said. But the http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2007/01/the_headline_en.html>Matt Cooper-like question mark is well-played.

bgates

One thing I heard about witches is they think they can change their fate by drawing magical symbols and chanting magical phrases.

Clarice

Then there's Senator Carnahan whose experience was wife of a Senator who died in a plane crash .

Danube of Thought

The woman is a disaster.

centralcal

Obama "dabbled" in cocaine.

Barney Frank's boyfriend "dabbled" in prostitution and marijuana cultivation.

Countless others have "dabbled" in extra marital affairs and multiple marriages.

Actually, I think there is a whole host of "dabbling" that has been done by a large portion of our politicos (and do we even wanna start in on the media? Remember the CNN idiot prancing around a park with gawd knows what hitched to his get-a-long?)

Oh, yeah, there is a whole new way to define "wacko" and "nuts," especially if your female, conservative, and outside the beltway "inside circles." pheh! (trademarked by C. Feldman)

Clarice

She's not my fav, DoT, but she's better than Castle who made it clear he'd vote for Cap and Trade and was shaky on anything that mattered. People who wanted something better should have worked for it .

bunky

Clarice on the warpath. I like it.

Captain Hate

Alvin Greene; thread over

MikeS

The woman is a disaster.

Yes. She's not perfect but she beats the alternative. I'll be voting for Sharon Angle, not because I think she'll be a great Senator, but because she can do less damage than Harry.

centralcal

Exactly, MikeS and Clarice. These "nuts and sluts," if they win, will be judged on their voting performance and the amount of help they give to repealing the true EVIL that is being done to our country. If their constituents find, at the end of their first term, that they are not what they want - they can vote them out - as is finally being done with the Castles, the Murkowskis, the Bennetts, et al.

Tom Veal

It's obvious even from the snippet that Maher released that Miss O'Donnell was discussing the strange activities that she engaged in before her conversion to Roman Catholicism. She's an ultra-lightweight candidate but shouldn't be derided for changing her way of life.

Meanwhile, I wonder whether her opponent has definitively repudiated his undergraduate Marxism, a rather more pernicious creed than witchcraft.

Clarice

Jane, I was getting an invite to your tea party every five minutes and finally asked to be removed from the facebook site. Something's wrong there.

bunky

The establishment (both sides) is seething in Delaware.

DebinNC

Black magic? When O'Donnell was relating her youthful dabbling to Mayer in 1999, Obama the Great was making Annenberg's $49,000,000 disappear without a trace.

Clarice

I've been through a harder series of fights than most people-even had my friend and client murdered in his bed along with his wife and daughter, and I can tell you that there is not a single person in the world who could pass muster if you insist on purity; give full credence to the words of every one of their critics, and do not defend them on the merits of their position.

Most good people eschew politics like the plague because they aren't brave enough to put up with such mean spirited, pitiless critiques of their lives. Onlooker types like journalists and professional critics haven't the soul to fight back when the mud is being slung I have. no. respect. for. them.

I remember when the UMWA started spreading lies and half truths about the one man brave enough to fight the crooks, lean toga Ralph Nader ran for the hills, leaving him to defend himself. He did until he was murdered. I spit on Nader and his ilk. I spit on the clean toga allies who will never, ever stand with their allies when the wolves start biting.

MikeS

$49,000,000 disappear without a trace.

Peanuts! He just did the same thing with $817 Billion.

Clarice

**Clean toga***

rse

Maybe one way to deal with our frustration over Mukowsky (I do like the idea of deliberately misspelling) is to boycott Home Depot.

LUN explains her Chief of Staff's connection.

There's no excuse for her being the ranking member on energy come Monday. She shouldn't get the benefits of being a Rep while ignoring all the rules.

Captain Hate

Let them seethe away. The Tea Party's message to the two parties is obvious: We're tired of you giving us unchallenged garbage candidates. O'Donnell might be a lightweight but she's not a career-long untrustworthy RINO nor is she a Marxist. Bill Maher needs to be smacked around until his face-craters flatten out.

matt

I'm with Clarice.

Clarice

Maybe not, rse.

The President is the only big company head with the balls to take on Obama.
http://clarionadvisory.com/?p=7508

centralcal

Oh, lord, Clarice - what a terrible thing to have experienced.

We are all human and flawed. But some, have more flaws than others and truly do evil to or thrust it upon others. That is pretty much how I view this current administration.

matt

O'Donnell thinks masturbation is a sin. Maher, per his Playboy interview many years ago, masturbates before every show. QED Maher hates O'Donnell. Maher, as PUK would have said to us, is America's Greatest Wanker.

bunky

I feel alot better, the dudes arrested for plotting to kill Ratzinger were part of a break away Anglican faction.

MikeS

Do I need a clean toga to get invited to a "nuts and sluts" party?

boris

"I'm with Clarice."

Ditto

Melinda Romanoff

bunky-

Funny how those break-away Anglican factions are all in North Africa, isnt it?

Melinda Romanoff

MikeS-

I think we've got some yellow mustard and a guitar or two laying around...

matt

like Boehner or not, the Telegraph thinks Obama's vendetta is going to blow up in the President's face.LUN

Captain Hate

As an Episcopalian I'm disappointed the Pope didn't turn Rowan Williams into a newt. He must've been too shaken up by the North African Anglicans.

Jane

Clarice,

I have absolutely no idea what caused that. I haven't invited anybody so it really beats me.

Clarice

Ask Sanchez.
http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/archives/21418#comment-177363>Sarah v. Rick Sanchez

Clarice

The only way to get into the clean toga club is to be more concerned into fooling people into thinking you are the one human being who is pristinely perfect and to do that are willing to run as soon as any dick head says anything the least bit critical of an ally of yours.

You can't even wait to investigate.

You can't consider whether the matter is true or relevant or the whole story.

Just prove how perfect you are my tossing your own stone and flouncing off.

Clarice

Yeah, Jane..well the third and fourth time I mentioned it was a repeat invite and then finally I disinvited myself. There's some sort of glitch obviously.

JM Hanes

O'Donnell should spend a weekend in New Jersey and pow wow with Chris Christie.

I haven't heard one complaint about her that couldn't be used to zap potential colleagues in the Senate, like Franken, like Kerry et al., Shoot, even the Senators who actually pay their taxes have to hire someone to fill out their returns. If you include the House, for comparisons with other members of Congress, you'd have a regular cornucopia of crazies to pick from.

O'Donnell should address every criticism in a two sentence sound bite aimed at Democrats on a Facebook page. Line one a funny zapper, line two, a a serious takeaway on the same theme. It wouldn't even be that long a page, because all I've seen are the same 6 or 8 talking points being passed around between pundits and repeated ad infinitum. It's like the public version of JournOlist.

I'm far less convinced that Delaware is now a guaranteed loss than I was. O'Donnall may be a disaster, and fastidious Republicans could certainly seal her fate. But if she can be shoehorned into office, I'm willing to bet she'd be a much more reliable vote than Castle ever would.

Extraneus

Ditto. I'll fight for anyone on my side, nuts and sluts included.

Pagar

"you can name ten Senate Democrats more embarrassing to the country than Roland Burris,"

Ever wonder where these guys came from?

"Those of you who wish to understand the criminal organization masquerading as a political party — that would be the Democrats — need only to remember one thing: the very first Democrat vice-president, Aaron Burr, shot and killed one of the Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton. Although charged with murder in both New York and New Jersey Burr, of course, Skated.">http://bigjournalism.com/mwalsh/2010/09/17/why-the-eleanor-holmes-norton-phone-call-matters/">Skated.

And it has gone downhill from there.

JM Hanes

I'm going to keep that, Pagar

Uncle BigBad

I don't want Bill Maher picking our senators.

Time to Ms. O'Donnell another contribution.

Charlie (Colorado)

The more I hear about O'Donnell, the more I wonder if I dated her when we were younger.

centralcal

Wow, Pagar. Your post says just about all that ever needs to be said about the Democrat party.

I am a little stressed right now. Favorite grandddaughter - yes, world, flawed grandmas do have favorites - has been in Valley Childrens's Hospital scaring the living bejeezus out of all of us who love her and I am just a wreck. However, it appears that she is coming home with a diagnosis of Mono. Not great, but all the other scary things seem so much worse right now.

I am having a DOUBLE cocktail.

bgates

In a normal year, that appearance might have been disqualifying, but I think right now she'll be forgiven for going on tv with Bill Maher.

anduril

The more I hear about O'Donnell, the more I wonder if I dated her when we were younger.

If your first date with her was on a satanic altar, that might have been her.

anduril

The woman is a disaster.

Maybe. But what does that say about most JOMers?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

When I was young I "dabbled" in the occult. I had one of those Magic 8 Balls that could answer any question I put to it and on sleep overs on stormy nights someone would produce a Ouigi board and we would spend a couple of hours reading our futures. Oh and sin of sin, I once paid $5 to have a Tarot reading at a carnival. Who among us did not do or think silly, naive, or "whacky" things in our misguided youth? I've known more than one person raised and schooled strict Catholics who believed, probably right up to their wedding nights, that you could get pregnant from kissing or that your hand would shrivel up and fall off if you masturbated.

Wilmington, DE—Hours after ABC News ran an 11-year old television clip in which she stated “she had dabbled in witchcraft,” O’Donnell came out and declared that she will take her broom to Washington.

I like her, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't underestimate her. I laughed out loud when I read her retort above to the Maher smear. And someone must like her as she has raised over $1.7 million since Wednesday morning.

anduril

Good God, I seem to have wandered into a coven meeting!

Here's an idea: if we can get the Dems to concede that O'Donnell is no wackier than Franken or any number of others, and thus equally qualified for higher office, we neutralize all criticism. It's just that we can't criticize anyone else, either, right? Any of you witches got a problem with that?

By the way, I'm writing this from Konqueror in PCLinuxOS's KDE version. It's very slick. And, no, Linus Torvalds is not a warlock, as far as I now. I've never even heard that he's appeared on Bill Maher's show.

Good God, you people are wacked.

Danube of Thought

Alvin Greene; thread over

Not really. The fact that Greene is an unqualified moron tells us nothing at all about O'Donnell.

Make no mistake, if I were in Delaware I would be waiting at the poll first thing in the morning of November 2 to vote for her, and I may even send her money. And no one disputes what an unprincipled RINO Castle is. But it is hard for me to understand how anti-establishment conservatives in Delaware were unable to field a candidate other than this very strange woman.

Ignatz

It seems like it was Tom Hayden who let slip the truth one time that the real reason for the emergence of the New Left and the sexual revolution was so that ugly guys like him could get hot chicks.
Bill Maher is Tommy boy's idealogical and gynecological heir.
Reminds me of one of my aged relative's favorite sayings "ugly as a mud fence built in the dark".

bunky

DoT: there is no Republican party in Delaware. Castle was the last of Repubhican mods to hold big office. There is no bench because the blue hairs considered it their club.

narciso

The first tip is the Think Progress link that clearly usually indicates alteration, or Dowdification, One wonders exactly what the context was, and what the other panelists reacted to; the scariest thing about that clip was the hair, to be quite frank.

The last part of the Surber post is choice;

By the way, IMAO has the July 8, 2009, Associated Press story on Palin-Sanchez. It begins: “JUNEAU (AP) – After CNN reporter Rick Sanchez questioned whether Sarah Palin’s decision to resign as Governor of Alaska came about because she was pregnant, Palin held a press conference of her own to wonder whether Rick Sanchez was a journalist.”

Jane

Geez Centralcal, I'm so sorry. I can imagine you are very worried. It's been a long time since I heard of anyone getting mono.

Jane

The third installment of the Obama insider is up.

narciso

Very true, over the last dozen years, three candidates besides her have contested in state races, Chatworthy, Annapolis, '67, Ting,
a former Bush official who ended up endorsing
Obama, and Copland, and I don't even know what
the heck he is, all were part of Castle's crew and none did much better than 40% on a good year

Clarice

Sorry, cc. I hope she recovers fully and quickly.

Jane, instapundit questions the authenticity of those Insider stories, not that they aren't fun to read. In fact, they may be genuine.

MikeS

yellow mustard and a guitar

Sounds like a start, but won't this thread require eye of newt and frog's teeth or some such?

Ignatz

Here's a short profile of the monster John Boehner from The Telgraph.
Forgot he called Barry "chickenshit". Starting to like him more and more.

bunky

Clatworthy got nowhere in '02 against Biden. Ting was a last minute panic move against Carper. He got killed. Copeland is a duPont and was seen as a big hope and made no impression. Typically if you win with a decent percentage in New Castle County you win statewide. Her numbers downstate against Castle were huge. She actually needs to run those up more (doable) and appeal to below the canal New Castle County residents who pay the taxes Coons raised.

Jane

I saw that Clarice. I've never heard of that publication, have you?

I choose to believe it's all true. It sounds exactly like we have always thought it was.

Jane

Did anyone else read yesterday that proof that Maxine Waters was a lot more involved in One United than they originally thought?

And that One United is one of the few banks that have not paid back the $12m in tarp funds? So why can't the punishment be that she has to pay it back? I'm sure she has got that much between her and hubby and her re-election fund.

Clarice

No, i haven't , Jane, and, yes,it confirms my beliefs, that's why I liked the series. HEH

DrJ

From Jane's link:

I’m a contract player – I worked the ground game, I have been at the White House during this and other administrations, done meetings both formal and informal, and talked regularly to White Housers over the last two years who enjoy top level access.

So said leaker is a contract grunt. That will make his or her identity hard to figure out if it is true. And it may well not be.

Thomas Collins

DOT, I suspect that as a Generation Xer, O'Donnell has delved into matters less strange than the Baby Boomer politicians. I think her main issue is an excess of candor. In addition, MSM will give her less slack than flakeronies such as Murray, Boxer, Kerry and Biden. Finally, I think MSM is generally more tolerant of personal behavior such as drug use and inability to control one's concupiscent impulses (at least when it is Dem drug use and Dem sexual incontinence that are at issue) than it is tolerant of folks such as O'Donnell who urge control of said impulses and who are candid enough to admit that, like all humans, they occasionally dabble in things considered kooky.

Good thing that the prostitute Barney Frank allowed to operate out of his apartment wasn't a Wiccan, or Barney would have been in trouble!

As far as why the GOP couldn't find another candidate, I think the fact she had the cojones to "man up" (as she might put it) and not cede the nomination to Castle, and that no other GOPer would step up to challenge the supposedly inevitable nominee, speaks well of her (and I say this as one who has respect for Castle, notwithstanding the imperious attitude he showed in the type of campaign he ran).

hit and run

Charlie:
The more I hear about O'Donnell, the more I wonder if I dated her when we were younger.

I sure hope by younger you meant back in your mid-30s.

Thomas Collins

Hang in there, cc, and get some rest and libation relaxation, as I'm sure you'll be helping granddaughter recover in addition to carrying on your work responsibilitis.

Thomas Collins

It has always fascinated me as to how polite society views various types of activities. Rituals at eating clubs and esoteric societies at elite schools are given nary a mention when discussion of odd activities are mentioned, but show a little Wiccan interest when young and suddenly one is weird.

OK, now that I've lost all my JOM friends who went to Princeton and Yale, I'll stop! :-))

Melinda Romanoff

MikeS-

I take it you weren't a graduate of Faber College<.

Ignatz

And here's a link from Newsbusters wherein Michael Moore tells that ubiquitous pygmy Maher that the McDonalds at ground zero has killed more people than Atta and company did. This after noting, again, that Newt and Sarah are America's Taliban.
No doubt he had just absorbed, amoeba like, two or three dozen happy meals on the way to the studio, but apparently is so befuddled as to be unable to note the delicate irony of a morbidly obese fat tub of sh*t like himself whining about the Golden Arches. Probably a capitalist conspiracy that forces him to gorge himself like a walrus on a bed of clams.

Thomas Collins

Of course, noone at my dear alma mater would do anything weird . . . . oh, never mind (see LUN).

centralcal

Thanks TC, Jane and Clarice. It was a stressful few hours.

I think my daughter needs a new doctor for her children. /snort. Younger sister (age 9)was treated for "allergies" and given inhalers. Turns out she had Whooping Cough (2nd opinion from different Dr.) California is suddenly experiencing a resurgence of whooping cough.

Older sister (who is only 12), that caused me stress was diagnosed with Strep right before the beach vacation, which flared up again and turned into Mono. Luckily we have a great childrens hospital to correct misdiagnoses.

And, just imagine how bad it will be under full bore Obamacare! Shudder. A bad doctor is one thing, a bad system is a whole other ball game.

Anyway, thanks be to God and prayers and good medical practitioners.

Thomas Collins

Better to elect Establishment politicians with a long resume of public service. They comport themselves with dignity and propriety. See LUN.

JM Hanes

Don Surber points to this stupendously clueless Washington Post cry for help:

Was politics behind the government's decision to preserve the UAW's pensions?

IT IS ONE of the enduring puzzles surrounding the bailout of General Motors: Why did retired salaried personnel of a former GM division, Delphi, receive a fraction of their promised pension benefits, while Delphi's retired hourly personnel, members of the United Auto Workers, got 100 percent, paid for in part by the "new" taxpayer-supported GM?

Man, what a headscratcher!

Clarice

JMH, I heart Don Surber. He's so bright and funny.

West Virginia, I'm told may also be in play. Interesting to see if the coal miners who are soon to be unemployed to serve the carbon gods, have yet noticed that their union sold them down the river.

Clarice

some days I think Prof Jacobson at Legal Insurrection and I are interchangeable.

Stop Me Before I Say Something I Regret
I know that you realize it, but this is a two-front political war.

I have read some profoundly stupid commentary on the right about Christine O'Donnell, pronouncing O'Donnell's campaign dead because of a sophomoric series of appearances in the 1990s on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher.

It appears that some people are hoping for an O'Donnell loss so they can say "I told you so."

I'm glad I took the day(light) off from blogging for the holiday, so I'll have the overnight to resist saying something I will regret.
See you in the morning."

matt

Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd would play Animal House on a regular basis in some of Washington's toniest establishments. Staggering gloriously drunk through the corridors of power....sexually assaulting the opposite sex....there was reason They called Teddy the Lion of the Senate, because he tried to hump anything that moved and a few things that didn't.

It would see to me that Washington, DC would be one of the best places in the world for the gotcha video people.

JM, that UAW payoff was worth perhaps $600 Million. The white collar retirees got screwed, and the Delphi pension ripoff was one of the reasons GM spun it off.

Thomas Collins

Nice Quasiblog post, JMH (see LUN), but now that your wedding planning responsibilities have ended, how about some of your thoughts on events of the day in a QB post?

Clarice

It is always a pleasure to me to be able to read JMH's work ,

bgates

The fact that Greene is an unqualified moron tells us nothing at all about O'Donnell.

True. However, the fact that that prior to the Inauguration the seat for which O'Donnell is running was held by Joe Biden for longer than I've been alive tells us something about the Delaware electorate's tolerance of screwy remarks.

it is hard for me to understand how anti-establishment conservatives in Delaware were unable to field a candidate other than this very strange woman.

Look on the bright side - she'll get a good, strong primary challenge from the right in 2016.

Thomas Collins

Thinking about the peccadillos of DC pols has reminded me of a Dr. Hook song that I think should be the theme song of our Political Class. See LUN.

Rocco

Maybe we shouldn't forgive Biden for his youthful indescretions. He was arrested in a girls only dorm at Ohio University. Do you believe his story?

glenda

cc: prayers coming to you and the beautiful granddaughter. You must be patient with mono--tell your girl to get as much rest as she can! Grandparent stress is "high anxiety"-worse than when my kiddoes were young!

Great comments, all! I love this place!

I had mono when I was in the seventh or eighth grade. I've never felt that tired in my life before; all I wanted to do was sleep for about a week and then I was bored not being able to do anything outside. Once you get it you're pretty much immune for the rest of your life, I think.

Shouldn't Maguire have caught on what she's saying?

She's not saying she's *currently* involved in witchcraft, she's telling what amounts to a story of salvation. And, her opponents - and some generally on her side - are laughing/sneering/whatever about it.

WOW, Karl Rove is getting it from all sides and I like the questions:

Excuse me, sir, Mr. Rove, may I ask a question? When are you going to go on TV and criticize Lisa Murkowski? Here was a lady who swore she would abide by the decision of primary voters, and then didn't. That makes her a liar. Here is a lady who spent an entire announcement speech without a SINGLE mention of principle. Her only argument was that she is somehow more for Alaska than anybody else and that the sainted (and ethically challenged) Ted Stevens was her friend. Nice work, that: claiming an endorsement from a recently dead man who no longer can speak for himself. Where I come from, that's smarmy. It's like Jesse Jackson going on TV wearing clothes that he claimed were covered in MLK's blood.
