Wow. Five progressive bloggers were invited to the White House in a late attempt to rally the troops. The White House photo of Team Progressive is, well, it is what it is.
But the transcript reveals that the questions were generally just as weak. Here is the opening question:
Q Thanks for having us here, Mr. President. Just to start off, because the news of the day is obviously what just happened in Kentucky. What’s your feelings on the thought of a Rand Paul supporter actually stepping on the neck of a female MoveOn supporter?
For heaven's sake - one would hope that, in preparation for a meeting with the President, these people would attempt to distinguish between actual news and the latest partisan laundry to emerge from the spin cycle.
The gay marriage and DADT questions were better [Ann Althouse dissects here]. Nothing about the December review of Afghanistan, nothing about closing Gitmo, and here is a question that gives softballs a bad name:
Q Mine is an easy question. Will you rule out raising the retirement age to 70?
Well, Obama ruled out nothing, including raising the retirement age to 69 or 68. Jiminy.
One last lamer:
Q I want to go back to the idea of working with Republicans. And given the comments from McConnell and — well, all of them — I think that what a lot of people find frustrating is that our side compromises and continues to compromise just to get that one Republican on. We’re going to get one of the Maine twins — whatever. And it doesn’t happen, and then by the time health care or whatever goes through we’ve compromised; we still don’t get any Republicans.
I don’t anticipate this changing in the next two years. I think it’s going to get worse. How are you going to get Democrats to understand that compromise means the other side has to give something sometimes, one day?
It's a bit late to look for a pre-emptive Republican surrender.
OH MAN: Who knew that Iowahawk had access to the double-top secret White House tapes of the meeting?

Zero will be here in a few hours to campaign for Perriello. It will cost Perriello a few votes from Dems who will be offended by the stink. It will gain him a few GOTV votes from infrequently voting Dems who don't follow the news. Perriello will pick up two points as a result.
The Dems have had nothing but smear to run on here. Can't run on Perriello's record of Cap and Trade, porkulus, and Obamacare, especially after he caved along with the Stupak pseudo-prolife dozen on abortion.
Hurt will win 52 to 46. The other two points go to the independent dork who has tanked and who promised he'd get out of the race and not be a spoiler if he tanked.
There are two Tea Parties downtown today. One's a rally. The other's a policy seminar given by a panel of good speakers. On Sunday, Governor McDonnell and AG Cuccinelli will be in town with Robert Hurt for a rally.

Another site reports the Democrats are spending 45,000 dollars plus to tell people to vote for a candidate that died last week.
The money spent by public employee unions dwarfs all other spending in the 2010 elections. It can not be allowed to go unchallenged.

rasThe Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 26% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-five percent (45%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19 (see trends).
Rand Paul now has a double digit lead in Kentucky.
Overall, the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Balance of Power summary shows Democrats likely to end up with 48 seats and Republicans with 45. Seven Senate races remain Toss-Ups (California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia). Republicans need to win six of the seven Toss-Ups to win control. Currently, Republicans have a slight edge in five of the Toss-up states while Democrats have the edge in two.
In the California Governor’s race, Democrat Jerry Brown leads by four points moving that race back to Toss-Up status in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard. Republicans are projected to hold 28 Governorships after Tuesday, Democrats 12, and there are 9 Toss-Ups (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Ohio, Oregon, and Vermont). If projections hold, Rhode Island would be the only state with an Independent Governor.

UPS bomb story
Update 12:36 p.m.] Police determined a suspicious package found on a UPS truck at Metro Tech Center, a business center in Brooklyn, did not contain anything harmful, a law enforcement official said.
A package in London, England, that has sparked alarm about cargo arriving into the United States had white powder all over it as well as wires and a circuit card attached, a law-enforcement source said. The package came from Sana, Yemen and was bound for Chicago, Illinois, the source said. Investigators are examining two similar packages - one on a plane in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and another in East Midlands, in the United Kingdom.
[Update 11:53 a.m.] A suspicious package was found Friday morning at East Midlands Airport in England, authorities said. They did not connect the discovery to the discovery of a suspicious device aboard a plane at London's airport.
[Update 11:38 a.m.] A bomb squad in New York City is responding to a report of a suspected explosive device inside a package aboard a UPS truck in Queens, the deputy police commissioner said Friday. Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne declined to say whether the discovery is connected to the incidents at the Newark and Philadelphia airports.

Yes, the indicators keep piling up. Coons reverses and says he will vote to extend all of the Bush tax cuts. Then word that Coons is running negative adds against O'Donnell. The post earlier this week that Dems were going into DefCon1 looking for more money for Coons. Now backing out of debates with the race tightening makes him look like he is running and hiding.

Once again, I call upon us all to reject those divisive voices calling us to choose between greater and greatest; better and best; good and gooder; &tc...
One should approach my future employer with bows and curtseys (proper posture is aided by extending a case of Guinness in supplication). Kisses and salutes are appropriate--but ensure that they are performed sequentially rather than consecutively.

I detest John Kerry so much:

Concurrently.
Rats! Back to the unemployment line again, I suppose.

Shut up & sit down John.

There are more.

DNC chair says "no sign of GOP wave in early voting".
Well Tim, if you took your nose out of the playbook, you just might be able to make it to higher ground, in time.
Heh-heh-heh.
(AJ Strata breaks down the early PA vote.)

JOMOs - What a coup! Played my regular Friday golf outing and came back to see that all hell has broke out in Alaska due to the all the tribes communicating and successfully launching an attack against that lonely wagon out there with the Leeza Moocowski bumper sticker on it. Congratulations!
And it was ROTFLMAO time when I saw the list of write-ins. We the people will not be denied and I smell blood - big time -even in Deleware. Well done, Hit, Daddy and Dan Reihl as well as Big Government. Ya, think the republican establishment in Washington and around the country are shaking in their Florsheims?

An O'Donnell victory would be the sweetest of all takedowns for me this election. I wish her all the best.
For a variety of reasons, this is the one I want victory in the most.

JIB,
Are you ever going to tell me what the second "o" in JOMO stands for? I feel so out of touch.

Wow, the graph (too large to post here) at Mel's AJ Strata link sure is purty.
I also noticed (maybe AJ mentioned it) that the differential in early voting turnout by party in PA (55R/39D) almost exactly mirrors the Gallup generic ballot (55R/40D). Pretty cool.

Captain Hate:
Ann Coulter agrees with you re: O"Donnell as do I. Last pioll has her down 10 but wasn't that similar to her standing against Mike Castle and then she surged at the end. I am hopeful that she has enough time this weekend to pull it out. She sounded great on Hannity. When you talk the issues Coons doesn't know jack and I was suspicious of his flip-flop on the raising taxes issue. Manchin In wV is the same thing. Don't be fooled, just like Webb and Warner these guys are O'bama's minions. Remember Reid called Coons his little pet...
