Army of Davids

Jobs number out this AM.

Not good.

Wonder how many jobs are never created because of trade protectionism, 41% increase in minimum wage and ObamaCare?

Captain Hate

Is there any more evidence needed that Crist is exactly the sort of garbage that's been allowed to litter the Repub party for years and has provided the rationale for people of good intentions to be bamboozled by grifters like Oscammer?

Rick Ballard

"Looking more and more like a wave election"

NK,

It's safe to drop the qualifier now. The Obamunist surgelet has subsided and the question turns to the height of the wave at the time it hits DC and various state capitols. IMO - the Obamunists are going to be nostalgic about 1994 and left to brag only that it wasn't quite as bad as 1894. It's going to be worse for them than 1930 was for the Republicans, just as 2012 will be worse for them than 1932 was for the Republicans. Hoover will be shown to have had a substantial edge over Obama, in character as well as intelligence.

We're going to see a lot of stories regarding the midterm catastrophe being a precursor to a BOzo victory in '12. Think of Hoover when they appear.

Porchlight

Rick,

They will try, but the 1994 analogies fail unless 1) the economy booms and 2) Barry tacks to the center. Anyone think either will happen? Me neither.

And 1994 didn't have other factors like the lame duck session and Barry's Cunning Radical Executive End-around Program (C.R.E.E.P.) to push through what he can after the Rs take over.

hit and run

From TM's second link:

President Barack Obama adds a new item to his first-term to-do list: energize his most loyal supporters in a national get-out-the-vote campaign for the November congressional midterm elections.
...
Obama has already been out trying to stir up enthusiasm among the younger voters.

Here's a sample of Obama's stir-up-enthusiasm efforts . . . so far:

"When I hear Democrats griping and groaning ... I say, 'folks, wake up'."

...

"It is inexcusable for any Democrat or progressive right now to stand on the sidelines"

...

"We can't let this country fall backward because the rest of us didn't care enough to fight."

...

"People need to shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up ... if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren't serious in the first place"

...

"The idea that we've got a lack of enthusiasm in the Democratic base, that people are sitting on their hands, complaining, is just irresponsible"

More Obama should do the trick.

Sure, things look grim for the Dems this fall. But the base will rally, the economy will turn up, and the GOP will shoot itself in the foot—ensuring the president a second term.

Posted by: Elliott | October 08, 2010 at 12:41 PM

It comes down to demographics. There have been a couple of write-ups about how the generic ballot can significantly under estimate waves because they aggrigate and thus smooth out local demographic trends. Dems are getting killed in the White-High School Education Level Demographic. That demographic is heavily over represented in many swing districts. The return of urban democrats to the fold causes the national generic ballot to tighten, but those voters have no impact on actual local elections.

windansea

from Woodruff's new book:

Gates asserted that Donilon would be a "disaster" as National Security Adviser, the book alleges.

Jones called Donilon into his office late last year to discuss Jones's plans to step down from the post, writes Woodward. After praising his deputy for his "substantive and organizational skills" which made him indispensable to the president, he also reprimanded Donilon for three major mistakes:

First, he had never gone to Afghanistan or Iraq, or really left the office for a serious field trip. As a result, he said, you have no direct understanding of these places. "You have no credibility with the military." You should go overseas. The White House, Situation Room, interagency byplay, as important as they are, are not everything.

Second, Jones continued, you frequently pop off with absolute declarations about places you've never been, leaders you've never met, or colleagues you work with. Gates had mentioned this to Jones, saying that Donilon's sound-offs and strong spur-of-the-moment opinions, especially about one general, had offended him so much at an Oval Office meeting that he nearly walked out.

Third, Jones said that Donilon was not good in his dealings with his staff at the National Security Council, displaying "too little feel for the people who work day and night...."

Donilon did finally visit Afghanistan last March during President Obama's six-hour late-night visit to the country.

Yeah Clarice,

But Allen West is a great Black Republican and we're only supposed to be concerned about great Black Democrats like Bill Clinton....or something like that...

And since Clinton was our first Black Democratic President , what does that make Hillary? I recall when USA Today columnist Barbara Reynolds, who is black, wrote about Clarence Thomas's choice of a white wife:

"It may sound bigoted; well, this is a bigoted world and why can't black people be allowed a little Archie Bunker mentality?" Reynolds said later. "Here's a man who's going to decide crucial issues for the country and he has already said no to blacks; he has already said if he can't paint himself white he'll think white and marry a white woman."

""His marrying a white woman is a sign of his rejection of the black community," said Russell Adams, chairman of Howard University's department of Afro-American studies."

So how come our first Black American President got a free pass? Was it the Race Carte Blanche?

Even if the Dems did decide to throw Meek overboard, they'd still be a day late and dollar short. Here's what I've been waiting/hoping to see: Rubio's 50% share of likely voters finally exceeds the total for Meek @ 19% and Christ @ 25% put together.

What I can't quite suss out is why the Dems have apparently decided to throw a whole lot of resources at Toomey in Penn. Perhaps they think that his lead is still pretty tenuous, but a candidate like Sestak is going to take a whole lot of propping up. Do they think that Ed Rendell can muscle him through somehow? Sending Specter out on his behalf doesn't exactly seem inspired.

Longtime readers will observe that while we rarely rate unindicted incumbents worse than a Toss Up to win reelection, today we are moving 13 incumbents, 12 Democrats and one Republican, into the opposite party’s column to reflect their underdog status. It’s not that these endangered members’ prospects have suddenly taken a turn for the worse, or even deteriorated gradually over the last several months. Most of these members have trailed all year, and it’s simply exceedingly rare to see a candidate in their position in October come back to win reelection, especially now that early voting will be underway in many states very soon.

He now has 74 Obamunist seats in play with three weeks left to get the number up to +90.

Good to hear. I've seen more Fisher posters than I have Strickland's (I honestly believe I saw the first one for Ted today) but they're greatly outnumbered by Portman posters. Considering I live in the last remaining Soviet republic of Cleveland Heights, that has landslide implications. That Wall Street garbage is really lame; it might work in Kucinich's district (although I have some doubts about that these days) but around me everybody has 401Ks which have them as concerned as jobs.

Unexpected:

The worst U.S. employment slump since the end of World War II was probably even deeper than currently estimated, giving the economy a larger hurdle to overcome. About 366,000 more jobs may be subtracted from the payroll count for the 12 months through March when the figures are officially updated in early 2011, the Labor Department reported today in Washington. Following last year’s 902,000 adjustment, the revision would cap the biggest back-to-back reduction since at least 1979, the first year of available data.

Anyway, along our merry way we were going -- and the Dems, according to their big plans and campaign promises of 2006 took us in a . . . NewD irection!

So,in Jan 2007 they slammed the economy into D (that stands for Drive you know),headed in their NewD irection -- and off we went over . . . what do the Dems say...ah,yes . . . off we went over the cliff and into a Ditch (that starts with D you know).

Now I don't know about you,but if my kid crashed the car over the cliff and into a Ditch (that starts with D you know),I'd take away his keys. I'd get behind the wheel and put it in R (that stands for Reverse you know). I'd get us back to where we were before crashing over the cliff and into the Ditch (that stands for D you know) and point us back in the direction we were going before the D's (that stands for Democrats you know) pointed us in a NewD irection (that stands for emperors with no clothes you know) by putting the car in R (that stands for Republicans you know).

The Chicago Annenberg Challenge was the attempt by Ayers (with Obama as his puppet) to use control of schools to make them Alinskyite centers for the redress of whatever garbage of the moment the commies "directing" the "action group" determined would best advance the cause. Daley and the good, although extraordinarily crooked, aldermen of Chicago squelched the attempt.

Lies, damn lies, and Beluga statistics.

Anybody good at Math?

Cook Inlet Beluga Whales are protected under the Endangered Species Act. We've got over 100,000 Beluga's in Alaska but supposedly only a population of a few hundred in Cook Inlet, which some scientists think may be genetically isolated from the other 99,760---thus the Endangered Species Act)

In the 1980's there were 1,300 of them in Cook Inlet, so the Federal Government allowed Natives to hunt them.

By 1994 there were 653 Beluga's.

In 1999 Hunting was forbidden.

So here's the math part:

">http://www.adn.com/2010/10/08/1492712/more-beluga-whales-counted-in.html"> ADN Story says:

1) Numbers reached an all-time low of 278 in 2005.

2) There were 321 last year. (2009)

3) There are 340 there now. (2010)

And the lead paragraph:

"A survey of Alaska's Cook Inlet this summer found more beluga whales than last year, but government scientists say when the long view is taken numbers for the endangered animals continue to slide downward."

RichatUF

People are stranger than almost anybody. lol.

Pops-

It isn't supposed to make sense. The Obama Administration's problem is that they came into office believing that since the recession was so deep, they would enjoy a powerful economic recovery regardless of the policies they persued. The Reagan boom was the model, but Obama is no Reagan. They misidentified the causes of the crisis. They misread the history of previous crises and recoveries. Now Obama and the Dems are saddled with an unpopular legislative record and a flagging economy.

Regarding the tax cuts, Obama would like them all to expire in the belief that he would have more money to ladle out to his favored interest groups. His economics brain trust set it up pretty well with a deficit commission and letting the clock run out.

when the long view is taken numbers for the endangered animals continue to slide downward

Daddy- probably adjusting for inflation. 278 Belugas in 2005 is like 1,000 in today's Belugas.

Exactly, Rich. And if they didn't bite off quite as much as they did, the economy probably would have rebounded just as they'd planned, and they'd be rubbing their hands with glee right now. We're lucky Obama's not very smart.

larry-

The Boyd family is one of the reasons there is now a West Virginia and a Virginia. To carve up their lands in the New River Valley.

I know, 'cause they're kin.

Rich-

He wants to let them expire so he gets a reboot on "It's Bush's fault!".

And I'm trying to figure something out. Obama is planning on an international tour-India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan right after the election. Is that a good idea-after his party takes a pretty bad beating in the mid-terms he goes over to 4 countries that are critical if we were to have any coherent policy regarding China (and beating the drums of currency and trade wars doesn't seem like a winner)? I'm not sure going overseas on some sort of wierd victory lap when he has been weakend domestically is going to go well. (suppose I could be wrong, Clinton used Japan as a punching bag for a while to boost up his numbers.)
