Captain Hate

Treacher's live blog is a hoot. He said he thinks they are going to have to have a Rally to Restore Comedy

That's funnier than anything that will be stated at the rally. Even if I believed the garbage that the lefties spout (bwak lollers) I couldn't hang with such a bunch of humorless nits.

glasater

Good Heavens!

Cat Stevens and Ozzie O...

And Colbert is just being an ass with them.

bgates

This rally shows why conservatives have such trouble reaching the youth vote. They just had Sam Waterston and Cat Stevens back-to-back. We can't compete with that kind of star power.

bgates

Waterston read a poem. It's hard to find anything that rhymes with "TD Ameritrade", though.

Jane

Ralph, Clarice, the rule is, if I don't introduce you in the first 10 seconds introduce yourself because I can't remember the person's name.

That applies to everyone over 50. No one can remember names.

bgates

Then they had this bit where Cat Stevens and Ozzie Osbourne kept interrupting each other through "Peace Train" / "Crazy Train". I thought it kind of undercut the message of the whole thing that "Crazy Train" is just a better song - maybe it was all some kind of plug for high-speed rail.

They followed that with "Love Train", by some other hip music group the kids probably know (the O'Jays?), which supports my rail theory.

Jane

It looks like there are 12 people there. Am I missing something?

bgates

Next up, Katie Couric, George Stephanopolous, and that guy who went nuts and jumped off his airplane. Wonder what NBC did to get denied the chance to show they're just as centrist and nonpartisan as the rest?

Threadkiller

Turns out they are drinking Nighttrain.

glasater

Yeah bgates....

Next up Kool and the Gang--just kidding...

bgates

Jane, there are literally hundreds. Probably dozens of hundreds.

centralcal

Cat Stevens??????

Don't you mean Yusuf Islam?

Jane

What a bust. That's a riot.

Captain Hate

I thought Cat Islam had denounced music; although maybe he was talking about stuff that requires talent and people listen and/or dance to. Btw, how did that fossil Broooooooooooooce not get invited to this?

Threadkiller

Colbert is looking to get on Megan's Law.

Clarice

It would be something if this stunt caused the Stewart/Colbert team to nosedive in the ratings.

bgates

Jane, I my tv doesn't have enough resolution and they're not showing still shots of the crowd long enough for me to make a decent guess at attendance. I have seen 150k elsewhere online.

Pagar

Remember, someone added a bunch of federal employees to this mixture, Govt doesn't suck Rally.

Ralph

We can all be thankful for the Internet, not only is Google there for us; it provides us with comedic coverage of "progressive" events in a way the MSM never would.

Captain Hate

Yes Ralph; and anything with such high comedic content could've never been invented by Chakra Release.

Ralph

Re: The poor will revolt

It seems to me that The Won and his minions also aren't aware of the difference between the nation and Chicago and that they think that they can get away with the same things that they could in Chicago.

Hopefully, that's going to cause them to crash into a reef and rip the bottom out of their ship.

narciso

Imagine if Iowahawk, Treacher, or bgates had a national talk show

glasater

I'm off to join the "welcoming" committee for the retiring senator Patty Murray. Heh!

In my Sturbridge tee of course.

bgates

Wow, Tom Petty looks pretty good for his age.

Hold on - that's Sheryl Crow.

centralcal

I just tuned in via C-Span, while I ate my sandwich. Oh dear.

Stewart & Colbert were on and they reminded me of 7th and 8th grade boys (too cool for school) at the annual school "talent" show. Pretty lame comedy. Lots of awkward dead air.

bgates

A pop-up message during the last song informed us that Volkswagen was proud to sponsor the rally. Because if there's anybody who knows how important it is to strike back against fascist libertarians, it's a car company founded by the Nazis.

Sue
Wow, Tom Petty looks pretty good for his age.

Hold on - that's Sheryl Crow.

LOL.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--Re: The poor will revolt--

Barry seems a little out of touch.
The poor already have medicaid so his new system isn't going to effect them much.
If the rest of us get dumped into a system as bad as medicaid, which they seem hellbent on doing, that's when there will be a revolt.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Yeah Sue, hahahaha...
and, Turns out they are drinking Nighttrain.

Too funny...great comments you guys.

bgates

Now Stewart and Colbert are interrupting each other. I guess it's ironic, because they made a big deal out of the importance of civility.

They're probably going to demonstrate civility by having Colbert mouth stupid caricatures of what they figure they'd hear from the people they hate if they ever bothered to listen.

rse

Clarice-

You are correct. That is part of Kurtz's thesis.

It's not just Obamacare. All the public constituencies that got Stim money plus identity politics from blacks, Hispanics, women outraged about abortion being made illegal plus the white elite who have been led to believe from profs and classmates that they must believe certain things and vote a certain way or they disqualify themselves from being considered the elite.

The whole idea of stealth socialism as Kurtz shows is to make an electoral majority want certain things from the government and to despise big business so people who hate the term socialist nevertheless have come to think like one without knowing it.

How many Ivy League grads these days picked up enough solid knowledge on politics, economics, and history that they can look at their classmates, bosses, and peers and say: "That's just wrong. It doesn't work that way".

No. Too many listen to Arianna and tow the line lest they be accused of using their limbic system instead of knowledge and analysis.

They become part of the electoral coalition to show they are not irrational or relying on their reptilian brains.

Quite clever as long as higher ed and now K-12 will keep poorly educating students.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

For those interested in trains, my cousin Ken has a site called Trainweather.com. He is a retired meteorologist (hence the weather half) & he has always loved trains. He has gone on lots of final runs & will travel all over to photograph special trains. Just a little tidbit for those interested.

bgates

Alas, at this point I have to give up. A friend is coming into town for the shuttle launch, so I'm off to the airport, and I'll probably be offline for a few days. Somebody else will have to explain why R2-D2 from Star Wars is on stage.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

It looks like they have a giant puppet of Dennis Kucinich up on stage.

Captain Hate

Primo AoS post: Star Wars jokes bomb with these college kids? Proof their dad didn't spend enough time with them after the divorce.

Clarice

bgates,It won't be the same without you.......

Clarice

rse--That's fine for Arianna who made a lot of money by divorcing a rich heir. The rest of the dupes will figure out the scam sooner or later--

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Stewart just asked "What was this?"
Hahaha...you tell us!

Captain Hate

Thanks for linking your cousin's site, Janet; I just bookmarked it for the train photos.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

The hip 'n happening Tony Bennett is singing now.

Porchlight

The reviews of this rally, even from the left, will be savage.

Clarice

Good. I never thought they ere funny--just superficial and smug and full of it.

Threadkiller

--"Somebody else will have to explain why R2-D2 from Star Wars is on stage."--

What collection of Droids would be complete without him?

Frau Lokus

heh-caro continues Bocking in preparation for PUK's Day tomorrow.Did I miss anyone else?

Am I wrong? The comedians on the right suck.Where's their Iowahawk?

Jane told me before we met that we were all separated at birth!

Janet the tea-vangelist!

All the singers are now on stage singing for the closing.
A commenter at Treachers's said "R2D2 doesn't seem to be that into it" LOL!

JM Hanes

Well, there you have it:

Political Sesame Street topped off with a lecture from a pissed off Mr. Rogers.

caro

Frau,I have been doing my best to bock in honor of PUK for the whole year and I think Hit has, too.I really like it because I smile with each space that I delete since it is not natural to typing.

You are wonderful to call it bocking.I smile even more.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

I just bookmarked it for the train photos.

You're welcome Captain. I've never looked through it all.

caro

((Political Sesame Street topped off with a lecture from a pissed off Mr. Rogers.))

Priceless!

Porchlight

I plan to start bocking tomorrow.I might need some practice,though.There.

Clarice

I just finished knitting a Japanese scarf project made in large part of micron thin stainless steel wrapped in silk--apparently after the other thread (a micro thin bit of merino wool) is felted it becomes a bit of sculpture. Knitting with wire is weird and a bit hard.

Then my fingers slipped into the Halloween stash and found some mini butterfingers which they put into my mouth. Now I want to save the poor chilruns from the evil of butterfingers by eating up all of those bad bad candies.

Clarice

That was priceless,jmh..I wasn't paying attention to the spectacle so I have to take the word of others that it is accurate, but I can't imagine it not being so.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Here is a short video that shows the crowd. The Nambla sign can be seen also at 31 seconds.

All You Need To Know About The Meh Rally:

Photobucket

LOL!!!

 Ann

The Sanity crowd is the "meh" crowd. They like to complain a lot and do nothing. And they succeeded!

Porchlight

smart comment from Janet's link:

150,000 people that are there to be entertained, and the majority of them won’t be motivated to vote on November 2nd. Those that will vote, will vote for a Democrat. And because of this rally, those individuals aren’t back in their voting districts helping out Democrats at the phone banks, or helping them canvassing door to door.

Thank You to the Comedy Central clowns for pulling away many people that would be assisting the Democrats three days before a crucial mid term election.

I think the majority of those people will vote. But it's a good point about a big chunk of potential Dem labor being sidelined for a day, probably two.

Captain Hate

O/T Somebody at AoS just posted that Toonces said twice in CT that "we're funding global AIDS". WTF?

Clarice

Ann Althouse:

"From my TV perspective, it looked like a huge crowd on the Mall. It was overwhelming white. And — I'm not lying — I wrote "overwhelmingly" before I remembered that "overwhelmingly white" had become a hilariously common way to refer to crowds drawn to conservative rallies.

The crowd also looked pretty young and disproportionately male. Because it's comedy?"

centralcal

Captain - he was being heckled from the crowd about Aids. The hecklers seem to follow him from speaking engagement to speaking engagement.

caro

((...The crowd also looked pretty young and disproportionately male. Because it's comedy?"))

Because the left has lost the women?

Captain Hate

CC, was he trying to say that we're funding global AIDS treatment and maybe the AoS poster didn't hear the whole thing? Or is this the risk when he goes off 'prompter?

WOW,Ann,those "dumb fux" shirts say it all.Tea Party signs don't insult the citizens/voters on the other side.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

This is funny - Arlington county board puts out a bimonthly paper called The Citizen. This one had an article titled "Have Yourself an Earth-Friendly Holiday Season"

The PC "Holiday Season" aside....one of the suggestions is "*Consider buying a service or tickets to a concert or movie, instead of buying packaged gifts"

I bet the businesses in Arlington LOVE that suggestion! Citizens! Don't Buy Things!!!!

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Great photo for the crowd size Ann. The set-up was in a different place than most rallies.
I once helped with a Luis Palau festival (Christian organization) on the mall & that was the set-up for it.

"I read last night that the vast majority of union members, for example, are furious at their unions' waste of millions to fund Dem campaigns."

We are a bit of an unusual Union, but my experience/impression of our particular Union jibes with Clarice's assessment.

 Ann

Ominous Breitbart Tweet :

Any leftie or high worth 'progressive' willing to bet I won't find blatant assault on video of liberal 'Sanity' attendee on an innocent?

Jane

I wonder if Stewart is kicking himself. I bet his ego doesn't do failure well.

Clarice

Janet..that reminds me--before the election I was in SFA and all the slick mags were touting Obama. I wrote a column asking why merchants were advertising and promoting the very magazines that would hit the pocketbooks of their customers? This year when I was there again for another errand, the place was so empty, sales people were tripping over each other trying to get me to buy anything.

Some people are just born dumb--or the folks they engage to place their ads are.

Jane

CH - it was fascinating to see Bambi react to the heckling by the "FUnd AIDs" people. He was visibly frustrated and they refused to back down. He kept saying he was the only chance they had to get funding, because the republicans would not do it - which they and we know is a bold face lie since George Bush did more than anyone. I really thought he was going to ban free speech.

 Ann

Captain Hate:

You will love the tweets coming from a friend at the Clinton/Strickland rally:

6 minutes before the start of the Strickland/Clinton rally in Cbus and I walked right up to the front row. #sad

So. Many. Union. Tshirts

I shouldn't be smiling this big at a Strickland rally. This showing is pathetic for supposedly the most popular politician in the country.

At yesterday's Kasich rally I couldn't move. I could do the hokey pokey at Strickland's.

To make matters worse, it seems the sound system is broken. I LOVE Strickland rallies. Comedy gold!

:)

Clarice

Jane, I think there's ample evidence that he's not a mentally stable guy. I am certain Tuesday's disaster will just shake him to the core...and probably result in even more denial and confrontational behavior.

centralcal

Captain - truthfully, I wasn't listening to BOzo, I was straining to try and hear what the hecklers were shouting. There seemed to be quite a few of them and they were heckling both from his left and his right in the auditorium. It took him and his supporters quite a long time to get things quieted down so he could resume his droning on and on.

centralcal

Ann - love your friend's tweets!!!!

">http://www.dced.state.ak.us/dca/LOGON/pubs/29_26.htm#as26_240"> Sec. 29.26.240. Recall. An official who is elected or appointed to an elective municipal office may be recalled by the voters after the official has served the first 120 days of the term for which elected or appointed.

Daddy, Is this a possibility for Murchomsky, if she pulls it off?

The recall part worked in CA. The replace an idiot with an idiot, not so well.

Rick Ballard

The unions pretty much had to dump just about everything into this election. AFSCME and SEIU members were going to be clobbered next year regardless of the outcome, the union thug bosses know it and they know they have to be able to say "we gave it our best shot".

I've been wondering which Blue Hell will be the first to declare bankruptcy. I'm leaning towards LA but I'd love to hear what others think.

Captain Hate

Outstanding Ann; I don't know if you saw it earlier in the week but the Twitch and Slick show was ordered not to be at the Massillon/Canton McKinley football game.

Clarice

I'm with you, daddy.

daddy

Threadkiller, I have no idea about stuff like that.

IANAL, but unfortunately I have very little respect for the legal machinations that go on in this state. However, if elected, I promise to...

I think the man's words bear repeating as the point seems clearly lost on this crowd.

" When Republicans took control of Congress in 1994, the U.S. economy had strong fundamentals. Household debt was much lower than it is today. Business investment was surging, in large part thanks to the new opportunities created by information technology -- opportunities that were much broader than the follies of the dot-com bubble.

In this favorable environment, economic management was mainly a matter of putting the brakes on the boom, so as to keep the economy from overheating and head off potential inflation. And this was a job the Federal Reserve could do on its own by raising interest rates, without any help from Congress.

Today's situation is completely different. The economy, weighed down by the debt that households ran up during the Bush-era bubble, is in dire straits; deflation, not inflation, is the clear and present danger. And it's not at all clear that the Fed has the tools to head off this danger. Right now we very much need active policies on the part of the federal government to get us out of our economic trap.

But we won't get those policies if Republicans control the House. In fact, if they get their way, we'll get the worst of both worlds: They'll refuse to do anything to boost the economy now, claiming to be worried about the deficit, while simultaneously increasing long-run deficits with irresponsible tax cuts -- cuts they have already announced won't have to be offset with spending cuts.

So if the elections go as expected next week, here's my advice: Be afraid. Be very afraid.

centralcal

Ann: Bill Clinton just thanked "the Teamsters for hosting this. This is just about the coolest trailer I have ever stood on."

Well that is the second NAMBLA poster then...cause the one in the video was on yellow poster board. How many NAMBLA members were there?

Extraneus

That's gotta be a plant.

Captain Hate

Ann, Strickland has run the scummiest campaign I've witnessed from a sitting governor. Kasich, to his credit, has stayed upbeat throughout it all. Judging from you and your friend's comments, I'm not the only person noticing that.

Ununpentium

Guess Who?

Two-thirds of the Nevada vote is in. And while the GOP is outperforming the early vote, relative to their voter registration numbers, the absolute numbers look better for us:

Clark County:
Dems, 133,967
GOP: 108,771
Rest: 46,329

Washoe County
Dems, 27,914
GOP: 30,946

That's a 19,000-vote lead for Democrats. And remember, public polling shows Reid getting about 15 percent of the GOP vote, while Angle gets low-single digits of Democrats.

That wouldn't be enough to overcome a deficit with independents, but it's still a decent cushion to take in into Election Day.

 Ann

Yo Cayroooooo

HO ! I haven't seen that obnoxious reference to a solid news org like FOXs.

Dumb FUKS. indeed (snigger)

daddy

Speaking of names,

As I get older I find I am terrible with names in my job. I have about 350 co-workers up here, of which for any given trip of between 3 days to 2 weeks, I can get arbitrarily paired with any of about 200 of them. Then you toss in the 3rd guy every once in a while from the pool of 1000 guys in Memphis or the few hundred in LA and it becomes even more difficult so you just sort of give up trying to even sort it out.

In the old days when you started as the new guy you really got to know and remember the crusty old guys who had been around the block and showed you the ropes. Now that I am one, I can't remember any new guys names (unless they scare you to death) for more than like a week. So constantly in bars etc around the planet somebody walks in and says "Hey, how you doing daddy", to which I rapidly go thru the mental index file and come up blank, so I pantomime as if we are bosom buddies until I can figure out who the sucker is. It's generic and very funny, and for so many years now I have been called so many derivations of whatever my real name used to be, that I almost don't even remember what my real name is.

The wife jokes (but it's true) that when I get a call or an e-mail, or especially when she bumps into somebody in town who claims to know me, she says "He called you Bob, so obviously he's one that you don't really care about since he doesn't know your real name."
Funny thing is that she's exactly right.

Rob Roy

"WAR ISN'T FREE"?

I think GWB would disagree. A 'Phantom' budget is sometimes necessary in time of war.

Therefore, since the Iraq war was un-funded, there was no actual funding....ergo, free

OT

The weather was mouldy as I watched smallish relatives cavort at football, so to match the weather, I employed my smart phone to confirm how badly my Dukies were losing to DoT’s armada. Then, and my step bouyed up, when I saw the fearsome Blue Devils were upon the hips and thighs of those Cadets or Sailors or something. 10-nil. Zero. Nada.

Immediately, I recalled Drake playing at bolls and felt as if the invading ships had been quelled.

But, I still realize that there is much left in the game and, as can be said, the stable is not sanguine.

Ralph L

Jane, you really should insist on a full frontal before meeting your online clients.

I swear that I look and sound like a young Erol Flynn.

No one pinged DoT for his "72 hour quickie." No wonder his wife doesn't allow detours.

My late grandmother had had a husband named Ralph, an only child named Ward, and two grandsons named Ward and Ralph. We were Ward-Ralph-Ward-Ralph for many years.
