In the course of telling us how CNN and MSNBC have floundered in chasing Fox News, we learn the new liberal slogan of MSNBC:
The network hired Spike Lee to shoot a multi-million-dollar advertising campaign and developed its own obtuse slogan: “Lean Forward.”
Oh, geez - why don't they just lean the rest of the way and announce that the new progressive slogan is "Bend Over"?
BLOW THEM DOWN: It's New York Magazine, so we expect the usual liberal self-congratulation. Ad they deliver!
...MSNBC’s new identity has been a ratings boon. Its audience is less than half the size of Fox’s, partly because liberals tend to pride themselves on being part of the fact-based community and may prefer media products like the New York Times, or the PBS NewsHour, which make their points without shouting.
Obviously they have read neither the latest Pew Research nor the Charles Blow column summarizing it. His second paragraph:
The unpleasant fact that these liberals rarely mention, and may not know, is that large swaths of the Democratic base, groups they need to vote in droves next month — blacks, Hispanics and young people — are far less civically literate than their conservative counterparts.
And I would also guess they haven't perused such calm, thoughtful sites as DKos lately. Or ever.
OK, THAT'S EERIE: Other than this New York story (picked up by Politico) I can't find any confirmation of a new MSNBC slogan. However, roughly a minute after I posted this piece, my last desperate Google search echoed back my own blog post. By way of contrast, Bing is ignoring me even two minutes later.
Also doubtful is that any MSNBC faithful had any economic coursework during college.

Olbermann can take his eccentricities to extremes. There’s a story that he told his producers to communicate with him by leaving notes in a small box positioned outside his office. Last spring, after David Shuster tweeted that he was guest-hosting Countdown while Olbermann was out sick, Olbermann erupted when a blog mentioned Shuster’s tweet and he fired off an e-mail to him saying, “Don’t ever talk about me and medical issues again.” Olbermann’s executive producer later told Shuster that there’s a rule against mentioning Olbermann on Twitter.
And this is from a lib friendly source. Countdown to this pear shaped loser killing himself in his final attempt to reach O'Reilly's ratings.

"Lean Forward" is perfect. When combined with the interpretation of the new D-inside-circle Dem logo as a toilet, it means MSNBC's shilling for the Dem party causes us to retch into the bowl.

BumperStickerist, That's the best response to the snobbery of the latte-libs I've heard to date.
It never ceases to amaze how inconsistent the ultra-libs are in their faux fight for human and civil rights. They are positively passionate about supporting some groups, but others (the not cool groups) can just stop whining, and deal with the fact that they don't rate the attention and/or activism of the super-intellectual, wealthy, elite, Waaaay cool far lefties..

It's pretty funny how the brainiacs at MessNBC have paid Sheldon Lee to put together an ad campaign. That has Olbermann's ESPN influence all over it with it's inability to think about anything other than what appeals to him. It will do nothing except entertain the existing koolaid drinkers.

I had a boss that talked a lot about "Leaning Forward".
His definition was that it was a "white lie to tell the customer about what you will have in the future, but don't really have now."
The purpose was to get some managers at a customer to sign on to working with you on a product .. once signed they have a vested interest to hide any shortcoming in your performance because it makes them look bad too.

Porch, Billy Bragg has a musical gift no matter how he employs it; his 2 collabs with Wilco doing little known Woody Guthrie (another major POS) songs get lots of play in chez Hate. Brit musicians are by and large politically insane; PUK was the exception to that rule.
I read something interesting about your fave The Band this weekend. When writing "Whispering Pines" (a very atypical song in that I don't recall them ever playing it live, for reasons that this might explain) Robbie Robertson was using a piano with a key that was out of tune and when it was time to record it in the studio was frantically jacking around with the piano there to recreate it.

Yes Cap'n, I am generally a big fan of Bragg's. His comp album Back to Basics is gem after gem and there are some great B-sides on the original vinyl. Was just checking out "California Stars" on YouTube after the Bragg tune; I listened to Mermaid Avenue really heavily when it came out.
That is a neat little item about "Whispering Pines." It makes sense as it does seem out of tune - perfect for Manuel's plaintive voice.

Yeh--most liberals wouldn't want to meet an "inconvenient fact" eek! A Mouse!--or anything like that. So they restrict their knowledge to what appears in the NYT or PBS Newshour. Of course that means that when they are engaged in a battle of political wits, they are only half armed--not to say half assed.

I don't know who is worse in this story. It serves them all right. Lindsay Graham uniting with the WH and Kerry on Cap and Trade and then thrown under the bus by Obama.
Lizza’s story, which provides new details about negotiations between key Washington insiders, threatens to alter the conventional wisdom that Obama has encountered lockstep Republican intransigence at every turn.
~
But at a pivotal moment, the White House betrayed Graham by leaking details of the negotiations in a way particularly damaging to Graham politically, Lizza reports.
~
Since the gas tax was toxic to conservatives more so than to Democrats, leaking the news to Fox News – which Obama has occasionally been at war with during his presidency – was a particularly galling act of betrayal to Graham, Lizza reports. It was perhaps the single most damaging way the news could have been delivered to the public on a sensitive issue the three negotiators had spent weeks discussing.

Just heard on the radio that Karen Polito, the only MA state Republican to block a $430 million spending bill, walked in to vote this morning 2 minutes late and missed the vote. A caller asked the right question...where were the other 4 Republicans? I hate this state!
Jay Severin also has an interesting theory on Tim Cahill. He surmises that Cahill made a deal with Deval Patrick and help from the White House to split the vote and guarantee a Patrick win. Why else would he stay in the race with absolutely no chance of winning? He can either stay in the race and be known forever more as a rat or drop out now and protect his future.
