Back In Laughghanistan:
KABUL, Afghanistan — For months, the secret talks unfolding between Taliban and Afghan leaders to end the war appeared to be showing promise, if only because of the repeated appearance of a certain insurgent leader at one end of the table: Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour, one of the most senior commanders in the Taliban movement.
But now, it turns out, Mr. Mansour was apparently not Mr. Mansour at all. In an episode that could have been lifted from a spy novel, United States and Afghan officials now say the Afghan man was an impostor, and high-level discussions conducted with the assistance of NATO appear to have achieved little.
“It’s not him,” said a Western diplomat in Kabul intimately involved in the discussions. “And we gave him a lot of money.”
Right, then - as soon as I finish Thanksgiving dinner, I am flying to Afghanistan. It is past time for Mullah Muckwuck Muffinbottom to negotiate peace with honor. And I take credit cards.

Thanks Ann and narciso for the Alaska Election updates.
Am out of town so have to rely on the ADN which is gloriously untrustworthy, except that now that they believe they have accomplished their goal of getting their girl in power, they appear to be doing a bit more actual reporting on the recount stuff.
Two points from a story they have up today:
1) "Now that Miller has followed the first part of Beistline's order, the second kicks in -- the state is barred from certifying the election until the case makes it way through the state courts."
Don't know if that applies only after the State case is completed, or if they have to wait till the Federal Case (if there is one) is completed.
2) "In an announcement Monday, Murkowski said her campaign planned to intervene in the state court case "to keep those thousands of voters from being disenfranchised by Mr. Miller." Her intervention, if accepted by the Superior Court, will undoubtedly add more issues that will need to be briefed by lawyers and decided by a judge."
And rats, can't get the Dennis Miller rant to load.

I find this BBC ClimateGate story encouraging:
The Beeb's official Environment propagandist, Richard Black, is off to Cancun and trying to restart that Dead Horse. In this latest story, ">http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/richardblack/2010/11/at_a_recent_meeting_of.html"> China hints at new climate future he tries to tell us straightfacedly that China has decided to implement a 5 Year Plan that will amazingly reduce Global Warming emissions down to nothing, and the West, particularly the US, should be ashamed of itself.
It's humorous in that he cites no sources, uses hard hitting phrases like "sources confirm the new law is more than just a subject of conversation within the Chinese political elite - it is a firm plan" and the even more solid rumor that China will try to change the wording of "endeavor to lower CO2 Emissions" to something like "trying to lower" or "striving to lower" or "really really trying to strive to lower CO2 Emissions..."
I do not know if Richard is a Queen, but I do know that he is Red, and like the Red Queen he has no problem "believing six impossible things before breakfast", especially if its something about China and he heard if from a guy who heard if from a guy who heard if from some other guy that said maybe.
Regardless, the reason I am happy is that most of the commenters on his site, which is usually staffed with an Amen Chorus of Gaia worshippers, are now questioning his astonishing gullibility. Nice to see that for a change.

Yet McClatchy is putting out a story that ">http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/11/22/104152/poll-majority-of-americans-want.html"> A majority of Americans want the Congress to keep the new health care law or actually expand it,...

"51 percent of registered voters want to keep the law or change it to do more."

macphisto, that was Casey Stengel about the original "Amazin's" [the first Mets team].
The story also is that they had a birthday party for Stengel at the owner's mansion and the entire team had autographed a baseball for him. Someone tossed it to Marvelous Marv Throneberry [the first baseman] who dropped it and let it roll into the pool
Stengel said, "For gosh sakes don't hand him the cake."

OL:
Don't sweat it folks, Hillary and Joe are the backup players. What could go wrong?
It's 3 am and your children are asleep. But there's a phone ringing in the White House...
Obama: Hello? You do know what time it is. […] What? A foreign crisis? We must act immediately? I don’t know what to do, what do you think we should do? […] OK, well, I’ll get right back to you. Joe knew this would happen, I’m gonna give him a call.
[3:07 am: Obama hangs up receiver, picks it up again, begins to dial]
Obama: Come on, come on, pick up dammit.
Biden: God love ya, Barack, what’s going on?
Obama: We have a crisis on our hands.
Biden: See? I told you so. Did you mark my words? Huh? Did you? They’re testing you, Barack. They’re testing your mettle. Wanna see what you’re made of.
Obama: Right, so…
Biden: Gird your loins, Barack.
Obama: Sure, got it but…
Biden: Like cleaning out the Augean stables, man.
Obama: Let me finish…
Biden: Now listen, I’m glad you called. I’m not being falsely humble with you here, you need me Barack. You need me.
Obama: That’s why I called. Now let’s…
Biden: OK, here’s what we do. We…wait, what’s the crisis?
Obama: South Korean President Lee Myung-bak called saying that North Korea has launched an artillery attack on his country.
Biden: Right. OK, did you know, I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know.
Obama: Enough. Listen, we need to come up with something. What are your thoughts?
Biden: That’s what I’m trying to tell you, I’ve forgotten who Lee Mungback is or where South Korea is. Is it near India? Why didn't you take me to India with you? I bet it's like one big 7-11 over there, isn't it?
[3:15 am: click]
Biden: Hello? Barack? …
