Eric Cantor irks me by going outside his lane with Bibi Netanyahu, but draws a daft response.
From Laura Rozen at Politico:
Last night, Netanyahu met in New York for over an hour with incoming House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who is set to become the highest ranking Jewish member of Congress in history. The meeting took place at New York’s Regency Hotel, and included no other American lawmakers besides Cantor. Also attending on the Israeli side were Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, and Netanyahu’s National Security Advisor Uzi Arad.
Israeli sources characterized a one-on-one meeting between an Israeli prime minister and a lone American lawmaker as unusual, if not unheard of. Cantor's office did not think that Cantor and the Prime Minister had held a one-on-one meeting before.
...
Regarding the midterms, Cantor may have given Netanyahu some reason to stand firm against the American administration.
"Eric stressed that the new Republican majority will serve as a check on the Administration and what has been, up until this point, one party rule in Washington," the readout continued. "He made clear that the Republican majority understands the special relationship between Israel and the United States, and that the security of each nation is reliant upon the other."
Depending on how Cantor presented his thoughts it could very well be inappropriate (and Obama was criticized for meddling in Iraq prior to the 2008 election). However, this reaction is pretty funny:
Veteran observer of U.S.-Israeli relations Ron Kampeas said he found that statement "an eyebrow-raiser."
"I can't remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president," Kampeas wrote at JTA's blog...
Hmm. Does he remember then-Speaker Jim Wright taking over American policy in Central America? From the Times of Nov 13, 1987:
WASHINGTON, Nov. 12— President Daniel Ortega Saavedra of Nicaragua and the leaders of the American-backed rebels conferred separately today with the House Speaker, Jim Wright, as efforts to negotiate a cease-fire appeared to be stepping up.
Aides to Mr. Ortega said he and Mr. Wright had discussed a 15-point cease-fire proposal by the Nicaraguan Government. A spokesman for the contras, whose leaders talked to the Speaker for more than an hour, said much of the discussion had been about putting a cease-fire into effect.
...
Mr. Wright's efforts were causing considerable consternation in the Reagan Administration. A State Department official said there was ''amazement'' at how Mr. Wright had thrust himself into the negotiations. Another official said there was annoyance over Mr. Wright's role because he had not kept the Administration informed.
Secretary of State George P. Shultz conferred with Mr. Wright today between the morning meeting with Mr. Ortega and the afternoon meeting with the contra leaders.
Mr. Shultz, who came on a previously scheduled visit, discussed the Central American peace plan only briefly and offered no complaints, officials said. U.S. Aides in the Dark
But another Administration official complained, ''We don't have any idea what's going on.''
Two wrongs don't make a Wright, of course. Then again, the Cantor people are pushing back with gusto. If Cantor was presenting his views in the context of an overview of the US Constitutional process, then yes, Republicans have more power now (as if this is news to Netanyahu). If Cantor was making the point that Republicans understand the importance of Israel, that is not the same as saying that Republicans will oppose Obama (unless someone thinks Obama does not understand the importance of Israel..).
Mr. Kampeas' very defensible point is that it is easy enough to read between the lines. But reading between the lines doesn't mean Cantor went over the line. Back to Ms. Rozen:
(For my part, I detected in Cantor's statement on the meeting an effort as well to be a bit more restrained and statesman-like -- the nod to the United Nations -- than the usual partisan campaign fare of a hardcharging politico now moving into a Congressional majority leadership position that may require more diplomatic guidance than he needed as minority whip.)
Now why didn't Pelosi think of that?

I hope they plan to oppose Obama and yes, Obama does not understand the importance of Israel, or maybe he does and that's why he would like to see his "friends" destroy the country. Doesn't really matter since we already know that given a choice, Obama isn't going to put America first and certainly not going to support our allies against his Muslim friends.

Cantor has given Bibi the one thing Obama lacks-respect for Netanyahu as the leader of Israel and our loyal ally. Obama is used to hanging with Wright and Ayers and that ilk. He doesn't understand where his true loyalties should lie.Remember during the 2008 election he was constantly trying to reassure Jewish voters that he was on their side. Too bad he managed to lie so well and convince them.

"I can't remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president,
How's about Teddy Kennedy and the Soviets?
1. Kennedy asks Y.V. Andropov to consider inviting the senator to Moscow for a personal meeting in July of this year. The main purpose of the meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA. He would also like to inform you that he has planned a trip through Western Europe, where he anticipates meeting England’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and French President Mitterand in which he will exchange similar ideas regarding the same issues.
If his proposals would be accepted in principle, Kennedy would send his representative to Moscow to resolve questions regarding organizing such a visit.
Kennedy thinks the benefits of a meeting with Y.V.Andropov will be enhanced if he could also invite one of the well known Republican senators, for example, Mark Hatfield. Such a meeting will have a strong impact on American and political circles in the USA (In March of 1982, Hatfield and Kennedy proposed a project to freeze the nuclear arsenals of the USA and USSR and pblished a book on the theme as well.)
2. Kennedy believes that in order to influence Americans it would be important to organize in August-September of this year, televised interviews with Y.V. Andropov in the USA. A direct appeal by the General Secretary to the American people will, without a doubt, attact a great deal of attention and interest in the country. The senator is convinced this would receive the maximum resonance in so far as television is the most effective method of mass media and information.

Damned if I didn't solve the terrorism and airport security problems with one brilliant idea:
There has been great concern that we do not profile Muslims/Islamists/Arabs, etc. at airport security and thus your daughter and Mather have to be felt up by the crack TSA staff.
I have the best idea that satisfies both sides. We will have a totally random decision each week on whom at airports will get added security screening. This will be done by radomly selecting a major newspaper from a hat. That papers Sunday edition will be scanned and the first story that is about a terrorist/radical who attacked/threatened/killed/is standing trial, will be used to profile people for that week.
Now how can you be more random then that?
That way if a grandmother from Duluth is profiled as a terrorist bomber in the New York Times, then grandmothers going to knitting conventions will get the extra special security checks.
Or if the Washington Post has a story about a Japanese teenage who strapped explosives to herself and blew up a bus, then TSA gets to harass all the Japanese teenagers.
Its bloody fool-proof. This way we would randomly select the statistically most likely group of terrorists.

Bush admitted to waterboarding on National TV
Obama admitted to sending drones (the flying kind, not like you) into Pakistan to kill people.
People who hadn't even been Mirandized.
And they were Muslims, which by definition means they were peaceful.
Hey, what ever happened to those guys who got waterboarded? I assume since Obama has been in office nearly 2 years they've all been either tried in a civilian court, or, if the government is infringing on their right to a speedy trial, they've been released. Which is it?

I love this from the WSJ:
."Has there ever been a major economic summit where a U.S. President and his Treasury Secretary were as thoroughly rebuffed as they were at this week's G-20 meeting in Seoul? We can't think of one. President Obama failed to achieve any of his main goals while getting pounded by other world leaders for failing U.S. policies and lagging growth. The root of this embarrassment is political and intellectual: Rather than leading the world from a position of strength, Mr. Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner came to Seoul blaming the rest of the world for U.S. economic weakness."

A question occurred to me tonight.
We now have 2 Governors of States, Jindal and Nikki Haley, who are of Indian descent, or Indian-American's to be PC.
I don't recall either of them receiving mention as a topic during the Obama India visit. I may have missed it, but in retrospect I would think that that would have been an issue of much interest and pride to the Indian people, and I suppose if it had been a Republican President doing the trip, that the subject would have been proudly brought up.
Anyone know if either of them were mentioned during the Mumbai Mambo by the O-Mo's?

Seems to me the most recent pertinent example of an oppo leader working against a sitting president is Mr Obama himself. This is from 2008, as Bush was attempting to negotiate a SOFA, and then-candidate Obama sets the conditions for his upcoming Iraq policy.

You notice how the liberals remove race and gender as absolute qualifications from any Republican.
From Palin, to Jindal, to Haley to Tim Scott and Allen West. Once you become a republican and a conservatrive you are no longer judge by your race and gender by the Democrats. Gee, kind of how MLK wanted it.
And you notice how whenever a women or an African America runs on the Democrat side, all the liberals can talk about is how you must hate women or you are a racist if you don't vote for them. Ahh, exactly opposite of MLK, they want them judged on the colow of their skin/sex not their character.

"Bush admitted to waterboarding on National TV"
Obama admitted to supporting abortions and in fact, in Illinois, support infanticide legislation.
So according to the left: Bush is only allowed to kill terrorists if he cathes them innocently in the womb, prior to any terrrorist acts - then he's free to rip them limb from limb and suck out their brains.
Is any liberal abortion supporter even serious that we believe they give one once of spiut for a life they just as well would have supported being killed as an innocent infant. Give us all a break.

"Putting off the Ritz" Link by Daddy @05:59.
If I were in a position to make a bet, I'd bet that meeting was cancelled because the Obama Administration did not want the revenue going to Arizona.
----------------------------------------------
Pops, your 07:32 should be used by every single person who is using words to try to defend the US from the terrorists that surround us.
--------------------------------------------
Everything I see on the subject seems to point to the fact that Spencer Bachus will be elevated to head of the Financial Services Committee and other big spender Republicans will get other major committees.
If this happens and Tea Party supporters are left in the cold, IMO, you can write the Republican Party off as a footnote in history for the 2012 elections and beyond.

Again, 2 excellent points Pops.
The willingness to protect unborn wildlife (laws protecting eagle eggs & migratory bird eggs) & not unborn humans doesn't make any sense either.....especially coming from the crowd that thinks humans are just the same as other animals/insects. A pig,is a dog,is a boy.

Have fun on the cruise, all!
If you've got wheels, Jane, and want to do something a little different, try a run up to Cap's Place", in Pompano Beach, just a few miles up A1A, or take Federal Highway ( Rte 1 ), for a bit more "excitement".
The food is OK, the setting is great, and the history is fantastic. Get the Hearts of Palm salad, after that, anything sort of fades.
I spent a good chunk of my childhhod up the road in Delray Beach and my brother is still there (Boynton).

All depends on if the tea party and the tea party candidates sit down and shut up, pagar. I don't think they will.

Can anyone point to any evidence in their writings, postions, actions that make Kathleen Parker a "conservative female jounalist or commentor"? What are her bona-fides? I think the reality based community makes these labels on an Acme manufactured system - the same Acme that Wil E. Cayote uses to catch the road runner. She is obviously a plant by Soros and Pinch.
Posted by: Jack is Back! | November 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM
Isn't that true JiB...
Kathleen Parker & Andrew Sullivan are conservatives.
Obama is smart.
Jim Webb is a conservative Dem......
The only reason anyone would think these things is because the MFM said so. Their actions say just the opposite.

Yes but you know who the road runner don't you?

TM,
I'd love to give you a big Two Thumbs Up for addressing an important story in an intelligent manner, but...
Sorry, I can't.
Why not? Because you concentrated your research on a side issue. Fine, Cantor's move isn't totally unprecendented but, as you say, that doesn't make it Wright. The bigger point--if you insist on pursuing that train of thought--is that it IS RARE and should remain so.
The bigger story--which you could have discovered and covered with a bit of research--is this: just where is Eric Cantor coming from? What mindset did he bring to his meeting with Netanyahu, Oren and 23 year Mossad vet Arad?
James Traub bothered to do that research, and the results should be troubling to you: Did Bibi Win the Midterms? Here's a sample of Cantor's truly bizarre mindset:
Come on now, don't you think this is the bigger issue than whether Rozen's and Kampeas' historical recollections are totally accurate? I understand that you thought that by following that side issue you thought you could get away with posting something critical of Cantor, but as you can tell from the posts here that sort of ass kissing won't cut it with the typical yahoo JOMers.
