Sue

Republicans kept O'Donnell from winning in Delaware. Stupid!

MaryD

Sara, I am also not seeing a wave , and am wondering what the heck is going on.

Barbara
"Dang. Connecticut just went dem."

Being a resident of California I have no right to say this, BUT what is wrong with the people in Connecticut? Did they watch the same debate that I saw?

Pagar

In SC right now they are reporting 5989 voters voted so far to make Alvin Greene a US senator. How scary is that?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Fox is reporting, I guess according to exit polls since we have no actual numbers, that O'Donnell got 90% of the tea party vote, about an even split with Coons on the Independent vote, but only 82% of Republicans.

macphisto

"I am also not seeing a wave"

you're also not seeing final results from anywhere but the Eastern Time Zone, which is likely the most solidly Democrat in the nation. Delaware and Connecticut were the longest shots other than California in the whole election. don't give up the surfboard.

Sue

Pagar,

I saw that. I'm thinking those are straight dem voters. Hopefully.

PD

I'm not advocating violence or bloodshed, but when I read this today, it struck me as a fair analogy to our struggle against our privileged Congressional overlords.

Men were on the ground, but still the rest stood and still they fired back, and Welch heard their officer shout at them. That officer annoyed him. He was a slight and elegant figure in a coat that, even in the misted dawn, looked expensively tailored. The buttons glinted gold, there was lace at the officer's throat, his breeches were snow-white, and his top boots gleamed. A puppy, Welch thought sourly, a sprig of privilege, a target. Welch, in his captivity, had met a handful of supercilious Britons and they had burned a hatred of the breed into his soul. It was such men who had taken Americans to be fools, who had thought they could lord over a despised breed, and who much now be taught a bloody lesson.

PJTV has a live stream of coverage.

Barbara
"O'Donnell got 90% of the tea party vote, about an even split with Coons on the Independent vote, but only 82% of Republicans."

Damn that Rove!!! Evil genius, my foot.

Ranger

Well, this is starting to look a littl like a wave (via Hot Air):

Update: Here’s one to please grassroots righties: Tom Perriello, who defended his ObamaCare and stimulus votes and brought The One in to campaign him last week, is reportedly kaput. That’s not an official call, but he’s eight points down with 63 percent reporting. Meanwhile, right next door in Virginia, Rick Boucher still trails by six with 69 percent reporting. That’s a huge bellwether if it holds; now we’re looking at something in the neighborhood of 65 seats or more.

...

Update: Virginia’s turning into a complete wipeout for the Democrats: Reportedly, Glenn Nye’s on his way to defeat too. Remember all the media hype two years ago about how the state was turning blue after Obama won it? Thank Bob McDonnell for showing Virginians that the GOP can govern for helping goose these returns.

 Ann

Mark Levin is reporting that Rove said that O'Donnell was an example of lessons LEARNED or some such carp.

Captain: Were you listening and what the heck is going on with Kasich? This shouldn't be close and I had trouble voting today for the first time in twenty years.

Dave (in MA)
Being a resident of California I have no right to say this, BUT what is wrong with the people in Connecticut?
They're right between NY and MA. The stupid leaks in from both directions.
hit and run

YAY JIM RYAN!

Hurt beat the only Dem House candidate Obama visited in the last week......

Sue

Perriello went down.

Jack is Back!

Look, O'Donnell blew it a couple of ways by not being quick enough. She had the argument on the 1st amendment but didn't elaborate just looked completely naive and stupid although she was trying to project her position. Perception is reality in politics.

Perriello loses. Big win. The Wave Begins. Bring out the boards we have surf!!!

Dave (in MA)

Current Drudge HL:"EXIT POLLS SHOW REPUBLICANS TAKE HOUSE:
50+ PICKUP
7+ SENATE"

Sue

We wouldn't have gotten the senate anyway. WV went to Manchin.

bunky

No Senate. Pretty lame.

Jane

Manchin wins

Danube of Thought

Face it: O'Donnell is a functional moron and a professional clown. Nothing Rove could say was going to help her.

Worst news thus far: Manchin wins WVa.

Extraneus

If O'Donnell had won, the Dems (and Rep "establishment") would have been slitting their wrists in fear of Sarah Palin. Too bad.

hit and run

Go home Grayson.

Jane

The results in MA suck - all incumbents win so far.

bunky

Scum Grayson lost.

caro

I need a Grayson pic! Links OK.

Jack is Back!

Big win for the Dems in WV, Machin is in and Raese is out. Not a good sign. If he votes for crap and tax he will disappoint a lot of Mountaineers. It will be now be tough to get even to 8 seats for the Republicans. I have a gut that California and Washington just can't help themselves. A shame because they will live with true tax and spend suffereing at the state level. Don't move there.

PD

Face it: O'Donnell is a functional moron and a professional clown.

I don't buy it. Coons was better in ANY way?

Dave (in MA)

Idiots

Sue

If Reid wins I'm done.

Jack is Back!

PD,

You win, they lose. That is the way in small states like Delaware. All they had to do is show her negatives not his positives. Too small a demographic politically. Remember, after years of Biden they are corrupted beyond remediation.

JM Hanes

Sue:

I think the tide is still way out, wave wise, but maybe this will cheer you up a little, while we wait. Over at the Washington Examiner, Devid Freddoso suggested that Baron Hill (Indiana 9) would make a good canary in the Democratic coal mine. At the moment, with 49% of the vote counted, Republican Todd Young is beating him 54% to 41%.

Everybody (incl. me) has been focused on the big potential upsets, but I think we'll really only be able to measure the wave as the district by district by district results come in.

Rob Crawford

O'Donnell is a functional moron...

WTF?

First, she was running for the office previously held by Biden -- who makes Mortimer Snerd look like a genius.

Second, WTF? She ran. Did you?

Porchlight

Disgruntled Castle supporters probably kept O'Donnell from winning. She could have been a much better candidate, it's true, but could she have won enough of them over?

JM Hanes

Ha! Fox just called IN9 for Young as I hit Post!

Jack is Back!

Another big win. Barron Hill is out. By 14% at this time. Wow!

Pagar

"Rove said that O'Donnell was an example of lessons LEARNED "

Lesson being never ever trust Rove.

I think the Republicans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to O'Donnell. She tried! With what had to be a cobbled together team she proved that a Republican could be a factor.

Jane

They called it for Young

Captain Hate

Ann in what way did you have a hard time voting? I refuse to believe that Kasich will lose; there's no enthusiasm for a bum like Strickland and, other than union humps, nobody can stand him.

Rob Crawford

Remember, after years of Biden they are corrupted beyond remediation.

Then so is the whole fucking country.

Whatever, guys. DoT -- hope you've got a nice big supply of knives, because there are a lot of backs you apparently want to stab.

I've got homework to do. Should have started hours ago.

G'night.

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Face it: O'Donnell is a functional moron and a professional clown.

Yeah? Well she ran. She ran as a conservative. Smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation, more freedom. God bless her for running.
I guess all the non-morons were busy.

Dave (in MA)

Early returns indicate that MA is voting itself higher taxes in 2 categories wants the status quo on corruption in public housing.

Porchlight

That's great news about Baron Hill, JMH. I have Freddoso's election guide printed out. Unfortunately I've spent the last hour running after kids and haven't been able to follow closely like I've been looking forward to doing for 2 years. Arrrggghhh

Extraneus

It would have helped if Castle had come out strong for her. Isn't that a lesson? Republican sore losers should be dealt with harshly.

Ranger

More shenanigans in Chicago. The Cook County clerk is reported to be "holding" absenty ballots until tomorrow. Most of the counties in the state started tabulating absentee and early votes this morning when the polls opened.

Captain Hate

DoT, you're usually pretty measured in your responses; why so strident on O'Donnell?

DebinNC

Being up for election in 2 yrs. may keep Manchin voting with his constituents, rather than Reid/Shumer.

Porchlight

She was brave enough to challenge Castle. We will never get rid of establishment guys like that without courageous Davids, flawed though they may be.

Porchlight

I hope so, DebinNC. He did promise to vote against cap and trade; that's something. He had to run far to the right to get elected in the first place.

Ranger

Number of absentee ballots on hold in Cook County around 14,000...

Thomas Collins

Darrell Issa, please make your primary investigative focus the DOJ's toleration of voter intimidation. See LUN (via Instapundit).

Captain Hate

Also don't lose sight of by having Portman replacing Voinovich, we have a real Republican (in the positive sense of the word) instead of a RINO

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

If Manchin voted for cap and trade it is doubtful he would be re-elected because it's also doubtful he would survive the first visit back to WV.

Ranger

A question... When does Manchin have to run for re-ellection? I know it is a short term, just not sure if it is 2 or 4 years.

hit and run

In an almost local race,Blue Dog Heath Shuler (no doubt a Captain Hate fave) and R challenger Jeff Miller tied at 50% with 27% reporting.

Shuler - 45010
Miller - 45329

That right there's a close race!

bunky

2 years

JM Hanes

Has anybody seen Michael Barone tonight?

peter

Senator Rand Paul. I like the sound of that.

Thomas Collins

Some of my posts look as if they have been eaten, so if they do appear, forgive the repetition.

PD, when I was referring to Feingold as low hanging fruit, I was using as my frame of reference the most recent polls. I recognize that taking down Feingold is a big accomplishment.

Let's go back to Jan. of 2009, when Obama and Roberts flubbed the oath of office, and imagine that someone had posted on JOM that (i) an obscure Mass. legislator who was a centerfold was going to win Ted K.'s seat for the GOP, (ii) the GOP was going to win the off year governorships in elections that reversed the independents' romance with Barack, (iii) the House in 2010 was going solidly GOP, and (iv) the GOP was going to make significant gains in the Senate in 2010. I think we would have thought that someone was a little optimistic. Well, fast forward to today and that's the minimum that is going to happen.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Hugh Hewitt and Jim Geraghty sounded a lot more enthusiastic and hopeful on the way home just now than you guys do.
Who's right?

I have to agree with DoT that O'Donnell doesn't seem that sharp. Is she light-years better than Castle or Coons? Yes. But that doesn't make her a genius or a particularly compelling candidate.
Making what seems a pretty accurate assesment of someone after they've lost now counts as a stab in the back? Are we now the party of the three monkeys?
Whatever her faults she did her best. The real creep in this is that slimey Castle who might very well have put her over the top with a little work.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Rich Lowry is reporting that the returns for Strickland are from Cleveland, that the Kasich strongholds are not reported yet.

qrstuv

O'Donnell bought two ads that a local DE station "forgot" to air.

Someone was scared.

Porchlight

Barone was listed as a contributor to FOX news' coverage tonight in a press release last week, but I haven't seen him yet. It's bumming me out.

Captain Hate

Blue Dog Heath Shuler (no doubt a Captain Hate fave)

I've heard him speak on the radio and kind of like him; is that what you meant? I think you'll be ok with either of them.

Sue

Sarah Palin just said that exit polling showed Castle wasn't going to win either. Who knows?

hit and run

Ignatz:
Hugh Hewitt and Jim Geraghty sounded a lot more enthusiastic and hopeful on the way home just now than you guys do.

This http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign-spot/252009/first-reactions-exits-if-not-exits-themselves>post from Geraghty sheds light on his enthusiasm based on exit polls he's hearing about.

PD

Making what seems a pretty accurate assesment of someone after they've lost now counts as a stab in the back?

No, if you also did it before the election.
Yes, if you waited until after they lost.

Porchlight

FOX saying WI Senate race still too close to call. Polls just closed, didn't they?

hit and run

Captain:
I've heard him speak on the radio and kind of like him; is that what you meant?

No. I meant former Redskins quarterback,Heath Shuler.

Captain Hate

Rich Lowry is reporting that the returns for Strickland are from Cleveland, that the Kasich strongholds are not reported yet.

That makes complete sense; I'm telling you there's no way Kasich can lose on the up and up. I'll stake my JOM credibility on that, no matter how paltry it might be.

Ron T

Face it: Danube of Thought is a functional douchebag.

hit and run

Bob Etheridge ("who are you?!!??" ::grabs kid with camera by neck::) is leading his race 54-44 over Republican challenger Rene Ellmers in NC-2 with 33% reporting.

That guy needs to go.

Captain Hate

Well there is that too, hit; although it's not like Sammy Baugh or Sonny Jurgensen. Or even Billy Kilmer...

Porchlight

I like Rand Paul's victory speech.

peter

New York continues on its road to ruin with victories by Cuomo, Gillibrand and Schmucky Schumer

Monkey #1

"Are we now the party of the three monkeys?

And that's a problem why?

Hollhy

Yep, pretty clear that the Rep party needs to get nasty with sore losers. Pronto. I'm feeling very pissy right now.

But we're a helluva lot better off today than we were two years ago, so I'll celebrate tonight. Tomorrow . . .

DebinNC

I hope western state voters don't get disheartened and stay home.

Jack is Back!

Rand Paul. I wrote his speech, ya know. I mean since Reagan he is the most honest politician I have heard lately. I only wish he goes to Washington with Senator daddy and talks like this. My Belgian wife just asked "didn't Obama swear to uphold the constitution". Yeak, I replied. "Well won't someone like Rand Paul ask the Senate to determine whether he has done that?"

Geez, ya think?

Get government out of our way - channeling Reagan. Watch this guy - you heard it hear first.

Captain Hate

Cuomo is such a dick; I know libs who get queasy at the mention of his name.

Dave (in MA)

Jane, I told you I was an Eeyore. The MA idiots are still a bunch of zombies. Brown was a fluke.

Porchlight

FOX just said Republicans will net 60 seats in the House.

caro

I really like Rand Paul tonight.

JM Hanes

Only 25% of the Ohio returns are in.

Porch:

Could be that Barone is just out back crunching the numbers. Nobody can drill down into the district results like he can, so maybe he's looking for a more definitive read on the wave.

Or maybe he's the one telling Fox that we've clinched the House with 60 seats!

Porchlight

Based on modeling, that is. Palin's on now.

Holly

Oops, dunno how the extra "h" got in there at 9:11.

Porchlight

I hope so, JMH. I really love that guy - it's not an election without him, as far as I'm concerned. But this press release I read was just a few days ago - I'll try to find it - so he should show up...

peter

Larry O'Donnell blabbing about some debt ceiling bill.

DebinNC

Is it true that MA voters are only 12% Republican? If so, that's almost impossible to overcome.

Porchlight

Palin is good.

PD

Face it: Danube of Thought is a functional douchebag.

No, I don't buy that, either. I have a lot of respect for his comments.

Porchlight

Any news on NY House races? I'm really hoping Hinchey will go down.

hit and run

BTW -- congrats to Texas: Gov Perry is re-elected.

Danube of Thought

Sixty is better than my 56. And it's historic.

PD

FOX saying WI Senate race still too close to call. Polls just closed, didn't they?

Yes, they closed here at 8 Central.

Gov. race too close to call as well.

Jack is Back!

Wow! Palin wants to "reach out". Hell no. She just lost Rush.

Does anyone get the feeling that Fox has become a little fickled and moderate lately?

peter

I read a funny article about Michael Barone. As a kid, his mother would wonder why he didn't go out and play baseball and instead sat in the basement reading census results.

matt

I seem to recall that in several of the more recent elections, the networks were not especially accurate in their results.

Especially when we are dealing with the tea party and other issues that have a lot of people riled up, I would wait until the official counts are in and make sure people get the vote out.

Several of the races were to a great extent wishful thinking; Delaware, CT, even WVA have been solidly blue for eons. They also share a degree of significant corruption and union power. Remember when people were misleading the press on their votes a few years ago in the presidential elections?

I don't think certain things will change, but remember, the Dems are going to be putting hanging parties together for the Republicans and will try to lay all blame at their feet come 2012.

In the meantime, the best policy is to hold back the excesses of the administration and then let Issa loose on them. They are waist deep in corruption, and we haven't gotten to the Rangel and Waters cases yet. 2 more years of the drip, drip isn't going to help their cause.

Thomas Collins

Ron T, DOT exhibits ultimate class, whether one agrees with him on a particular issue or not.

Porchlight

No, she didn't say that exactly. She said we should reach out to Dems and say hey, the train is leaving the station - we want you on board, but we're going in a different direction.
