Charlie (Colorado)

Here's the most recent Denver post story:

Incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet's early lead in Colorado's U.S. Senate race evaporated as the night wore on, with Republican challenger Ken Buck inching ahead on the strength of late returns.
The race, which most polls defined as one of the closest in the country, appeared to be living up to expectations. The candidates stood only a few thousand votes apart, each with about 47 percent of the vote shortly after 11 p.m.

Porchlight

Or, not county. District. It's late, sorry...

I know don't sound sober.

Stephanie

ace is reporting it as a win, but I haven't seen any calls on the tube or the nets.

JM Hanes

I think Jerry Brown had your drinks, Dave.

Porchlight

Rove was pretty confident that Buck would pull it out.

Sara, they don't know for sure. My understanding is that if "write in" wins, it goes to a review and they count every vote. Lots will be tossed out I'm sure, unless Leeeeeeza has her boot on the neck of the counters.

Hate that woman.

JMH:
Fred Barnes is looking like he's sudddenly aged. Don't know if it's just seeing him at different angle, or if maybe he's not well, or whether he's at that age when guys start working too hard to look younger and just end up looking gaunt.

I wasn't going to say anything -- being that I admitted earlier that I haven't watched cable news since Jan 2009. But yeah, from this point of view he looks ...at least... thinner.

Porchlight

I think he had my drinks, too, JMH. Yow.

Everybody looks so happy behind him.

Dave (in MA)

I don't think you can automatically assume that the bulk of the write-ins are for the dynastic hag. Keep daddy's operation chaos in mind.

Mark Folkestad

Porchlight, I just went to the Secretary of State's website, and Oberstar is leading in their latest tally. But with the SOS put in place with Soros money and a track record of massaging the vote until Franken got elected, I tend to think of him and his office as Shit On (a) Shingle instead of Secretary of State. Then there's the Morse code distress signal, SOS, too.

Porchlight

He does look a bit older and thinner. So does Brit. But I think they both look healthy. My dad is about Fred's age and he looks much grayer in recent years but is in great health.

Stephanie

wow... jerry stoner was about as coherent as the formatting on that post

Elliott

Good morning. It would be nice to think the U.S. budget is trembling in its boots over what the next Congress has in store for the bloated creature, but I am moved to doubt that we will be seeing Fiscally Fit Club on C-Span1.

daddy

Sara,

They don't know. They are assuming they are for Lisa simply from polling etc. Regardless they are going to have to look at the Ballots and verify, so no matter what, this is going to take a number of days if not weeks to straighten out and get a definitive answer.

I suppose if folks concede that that ends the matter, and now I am guessing that max pressure from Lisa and the media is going to be dumped on Joe to concede, but thats just me babbling. From hearing the "Pro's" up here it seems to me that everybody is winging it. We are such a scattered state that it will probably take 2 days just to ghet all the ballots into Anchorage to be counted, simply due to cruddy weather and such far flung Bush communities.

I had a nice 22oz bottle of Dogfish Head Bitches Brew chilling for my little celebration and the MAssholes had to ruin it. I'm saving it for a nicer occasion. I think maybe I have some store-brand vodka in the pantry that I could pound down. It's only 2AM.

hit and run

Good Morning Elliott!

Will miss you next month. Cheerio.

Porchlight

Ugh, Mark, I still have vivid memories of refreshing the MN SOS site at about this time of night in 2008. Awful.

Do they have results for the MN AG race? I was really hoping whatshername would lose.

Good morning, Elliott! I'm glad I stayed up long enough to say hi.

Nice thing Elliott is that you now get to call in on the International Line to C-Span.

HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — Unofficial results from Guam's gubernatorial election have Republican Sen. Eddie Calvo defeating former Democratic Gov. Carl Gutierrez.

Fred Thompson advertising gov't guaranteed reverse mortgages? WTF? It's, like, a Halloween joke, right?

daddy

Good,

McAdam's the Dem is not quitting. He says he is waiting for more returns before conceding. Think it's still only 179 of 439 precincts reporting.

Stephanie

Val-U-Rite Vodka and hobos... if it's too cold out to find a good hobo, bacon.

I'm supposed to play golf at 10, but I only got 3 hrs of sleep last night as I had to get K to the poll by 5 for her to work it.

Wait that didn't sound exactly right. I had to get K to the polling place yest morn for her to monitor the voters.

BTW her precinct went R 1329 out of some 1700 votes cast.

TV just said that the Write In Ballots will not even been opened to verify who they are for until 18 November and it will be a 3 day process.

So if no concessions, that tells me we will know nothing until 21 November, and I do not know if the challenge will be ongoing thru that 3 day process, or if it starts after that process.

16,000 Absentee Ballots are apparently still outstanding.

Randy Ruederick says: They will be examining signatures on 18 November for the Write In Process.

Porchlight, up in Brainerd, at the Crow Wing County Courthouse, residents of a group home for mentally handicapped adults were brought in to vote absentee and their supervisors went in and did the voting for them. Thoughts on Buck/Bennet?

* The Maes Tancredo Hickenlooper thing hurt Buck.

daddy

Yep JMH,

Wish I knew that Seattle and Olympia had already voted, and that the remaining 35% was coming in from Spokane and Yakima.

Where's glasater???

Thanks Holly and Porch and everybody else for the finger crossing.
I am disappointed in Alaska and especially in Nevada, but I need to appreciate what was achieved and be positive about that.

Dang, forgot Rossi

BTW, the LUN is the actual greatest blues song, not that crap you guys were talking about on some other thread :)

Mike Huggins

(Still up in SoCal) Boy, do we suck! What the heck is wrong with California voters that they vote themselves to destroy the remains of our economy (Prop 23 and "the evil oil companies" down in flames)? We truly deserve all the crap that will soon hit the fan. Cue the Highway to Hell ringtone.

Porchlight

Barone arrives and Barone departs. Better analysis in that 2 minutes than most of the night (though I enjoyed the earlier coverage).

His last point about the Dem caucus being more liberal now (because the Blue Dogs got beat) is an interesting one. I think it will prove to be big trouble for Barry. He's going to get hit from all sides now, and regularly. I will enjoy that.

mockmook

It was a great night:

Maybe a gain of 65 House seats, epic.

Governors and state reps out the yinyang.

Good pickups in the Senate.

And such great "new" talents: West, Rubio, Haley, Noem, Johnson, etc.

daddy

Just like I expected.

Channel 2 first stuck a microphone in Joe's face and asked something snotty like "Why a short night for you Joe."

Then the next girl came right up to Joe's campaign manager and asked if he was ready to concede. He said no, but with Joe leading by thousands more votes over the Dem McAdam's, it makes me mad that they never asked McAdam's to concede. Instead they asked for McAdam's perceptions of the campaign and were all happy and friendly and joking etc. They just suck.

I do not know if they even realize how obviously biased they are any more.

JM Hanes

mockmook:

caro made a similar observation earlier this evening:
"Who can name a dem under 60 that has national possibilities."

Porchlight

daddy,

It must be tough. But Joe is still inching up. I think it's going to be okay.

mockmook,

It was a great night. The governorships and state houses alone will be incredibly beneficial in redistricting. None of my "dream" takedowns occurred, but damn, it was still huge, with more to come.

Porchlight

Comment from Hot Air - this is great news:

Strangely, the MN State Senate just swung way to the right and is now a Repub majority, for the first time in 38 years. The MN State House is also in play and the Repubs may have a majority there as well. That would be a HUGE swing. Unprecedented in this state.

So, we could have Dayton as our governor and GOP controlled house and senate.

strictnein on November 3, 2010 at 2:42 AM

And the governor and MN-08 races have yet to be called - I think.

BHO

Angle vanquished. Miller unlikely to make it. O'Donnell thoroughly done. Bad night for Sarah Palin.

mockmook

Yep, JMH

We cleared out a lot of their bench this election. They still have some "young guns", but they have no visibility.

The Minnesota SOS website is lagging behind Fox, reporting less than sixty percent tallied, but Cravaack leads Oberstar by eleven hundred. Fox says that ninety percent has been tallied, with Cravaack having a lead of two thousand. I may not sleep until dawn. I'm also hoping for other pickups, and salvaging Alaska for Miller.

JM Hanes

Found the vodka, did you?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Yes, he is. You know you're getting old when you remember a newly elected Congressman when he was a young kid.

Maybe someday I'll post the pic of me with Dan Quayle after a fundraising event we did together. The inscription is a thank you for your hard work and my name which he spelled incorrectly and it isn't Sara with an H, it is my middle name.

Dave (in MA)

JMH, quit looking in my window!

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Porch, no matter, I think we are both making the point that Palin had a good night, not a bad one as claimed in the first post.

Porchlight

She did, Sara. You know BHO is having a hard time if it's 2:30 am CST and the only GOP thing he can find to dump on is endorsement record. Bit of a stretch.

Can't wait to watch Nanzi hand over that giant clown gavel. SO LONG!

Dave (in MA)

PMSNBC (the most recent Google news hit with the search for 'Miller' 'Alaska') says:

With a bit over 50 percent of votes recorded, the "write-in" option is leading with 39 percent of the vote. Republican Joe Miller was receiving 35 percent and Democrat Scott McAdams was at 24
What makes people think that less than 4% of the write-ins is for people other than the dynastic hag?

Porchlight

And with that, I'm out. See y'all, it's been great. Can't wait for more tomorrow.

daddy

Also concerning Miller,

I am interested in the number of Military Absentee Ballots outstanding. Randy Ruederick the Repub party Chair earlier tonight said either 16,000 or 17,000 ballots were outstanding but I don't know if they are Military or State Absente votes outstanding. If they are Military, my guess is they trend heavily for Joe Miller. Just a speculation as I really do not know.

Dittman the pollster earlier said a decent number of challenges to throw out of Write-Ins based on historical would be 3%, so if Joe could stay within 5,000 votes or so, he has a chance.

And Sara thats encouraging to hear McClung is not too far back. I think that if she is that close, what with what she's been up against, it really is impressive. Go good looking Rocket Scientist!
