The Politico explains that Harry Reid may be the last man standing in the way of using Yucca Mountain as a national nuclear waste repository. Dems like Obama pandered on this during the primaries and afterwards. Obama's commitment to science did not extend to a commitment to the science of using Yucca Mountain; instead he backed Reid's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and Definitely Don't Complete the Necessary Studies" ploy, but with Reid out there will be new power brokers needing pandering.
One more reason to put Harry high on the list of Dems to whom you most want to wave good-bye.

You wanna know what a good husband I am? My wife just came back from her daily visit to the Vile Banshee (my mother-in-law) at the assisted living facility. She's stone deaf and legally blind, and never stops talking AT&T the top of her lungs
.
So she wants to take us to dinner tonight. I said "of course, darling." (it is much easier to be a good hubby in the age of the DVR.)

Apparently I was wrong to expect a "Tuesday After the First Monday in November of an Even Numbered Year Open Thread" from TM.
If I know TM, he will give us six new threads and we'll be split up among them all evening trying to find each other.
If that happens will you play threadherder, hit? Pretty please?

I was buoyed this morning to hear both Fox and MSNBC talking about Barney Frank's race. Both said: "of course he will win but he has actually had a race this time."
I have news for them.
Then I saw the oddest thing on MSNBC - some ass from Politico - halpern I think, was defending that hit piece on Palen (which had only anonymous sources) saying - she it was okay because she loved the press and besides, 6 months into Obama's presidency anonymous democrat sources were talking about how incompetent Obama was - so what's the difference?
The difference you ass is that you didn't publish those reports about democrats talking about how incompetent Obama is, and it wasn't the day before an election.
Jail the lame stream media.

"I had the indescribable pleasure of voting against two Carnahans this morning."
I was just contemplating whether it was going to be a greater pleasure to see the Carnahan tribe go down in flames or Buck beat Bennet for Salazar's seat on the day when Salazar's brother gets his sorry butt canned from the House.
Let's all cross our fingers for Tranh in CA-47 as well. Getting one of the Sanchez ditzes out is halfway to the desired end. It's also wonderful to have no Kennedy befouling a ticket anywhere.

Yeah, Rick, there's "Hurt US Congress" signs all over the place down here. A delight. Hurt is a very nice man who wouldn't harm a fly, too.
I worked as a poll greeter (the guy outside trying to persuade people who still haven't made up their minds) from 6am to 10am today - in Charlottesville, where it's 80% libs. This afternoon the GOP has me driving an elderly gentleman to the polls. Tonight, I buy drinks for the volunteers and the local Hurt HQ manager who put in orders of magnitude more work than I did.
Some crank came up to me at the polls and said, per Perriello's ads, "Hurt gives tax breaks to businesses to send jobs overseas." Uh huh.

Dave I thought the same thing too at the time although I figured it was the blow talking. The Allman Brothers Band was an early stepping stone for me from rock to improv. I remember seeing them at Shady Grove around 1970 as a warmup group for Rare Earth (what a POS group). This was back when bands still wore suits and these Southern greasers hit the stage in jeans and tanktops and light right into "Statesboro Blues" and I'm thinking "Holeeeee shit". Once "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post/Mountain Jam" were done, my concept of music had been permanently altered. Needless to say, Rare Earth sucked balls.
Breitbart on Laura Ingraham just skewering ABC and George Stuckacandleupmyass. Great stuff.

I think Greg Allman's "Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad" is the finest blues number ever done by a white guy, and his "Come Into My Kitchen" is second.
Great video at HotAir of a guy asking people at the Stewart rally whether or not Obama is a Keynesian. Stock answer: "Whatta you people want? He was born in Hawaii, and he's shown you his birth certificate!"

Kucinich was running a barrage of kumurshuls last night in which he was stressing that he's not aligned with either party.
Here, Feingold wasn't running from saying he's a Democrat, but he wasn't exactly putting it front and center, either. The big emphasis was how he's been so independent. Ron Johnson, to his credit, has taken this on directly. One recent commercial shows Feingold a few years back as a Wis Dem Com meeting at the podium yelling about how independent he's been (it's really a lot like Howard Dean post-Iowa, if you can imagine that). The voice over then says laconically: "independent? Not really." Then lists all the Dem crap that's he's voted party line on during the Obama admin.
"Not so mavericky, is he?" Hah.

Mel, "Dimples" was on the "Dreams" collection, no? As with all good bands there was a ton of good stuff released after the fact; the tribute to King Curtis doing "Soul Serenade" was the schizz also. From a strictly pop point of view "I'm No Angel" was an awesome single; I put that sucker on "repeat play" in the car for some fair distances,

Dave's video link is teh funny. Also, the Dems next to me doing poll greeting for Perriello had no idea about any roll the government had in the housing bubble. I mentioned interest rates, CRA, and Fanny/Freddie's roles, but they hadn't heard of any of these things. They were all boomers with degrees. They simply said it was all due to greedy bankers.
You need a virtuous people for our kind of republic, but it may be that our people are virtuous enough but so deeply misled by leftism that it doesn't matter. The people in that video, and the Dems I met today might have functioned properly in situation in which they were informed. But ours is not that situation, thanks to the fact that we do not have a press anymore and the new news media is coming too late in the game to make a quick difference to these people.

Tell me about it. Two weekends ago we were sitting around a wonderful bonfire with neighbors up in the Virginia mountains, listening to someone's ipod when the music stopped and . . . a podcast came on of . . . Rachel Maddow. The ipod was quickly changed back to music but...
I have a pretty strict policy of not talking politics with neighbors. Never leads to any good. My lib neighbors are not of the persuadable type.
They're genuinely nice people -- just completely brainwashed.
But on this night my strict policy was overcome by the consumption of beverages,so off we went.
I'll spare you the details -- but much of the conversation went exactly as you describe about the housing meltdown.
It got testy but never nasty. It was good-natured enough because we both knew we were arguing with someone who was not changing his mind. But at one point,in order to emphasize the point I was making,I began repeatedly pounding the stick I was using to poke the fire with on the ground until the thing broke in half.
That also broke the tension, and we began laughing and put aside politics to go get a refill and put another log on the fire.
Good times,good times.

Mel, Return to Forever was a *major* bridge from rock to jazz pour moi; Corea at the time was a significant piano player (all the guys were good on their respective instruments but the stuff Chick was doing with Holland, Altschul and Braxton was primo) despite being an al-Ron Hubbard nutjob. Dunno how interested I'd be in listening to it today though...
Rob we stopped by Serpent Mound on that trip; it was in mid October so very pretty.

It still sounds great, especially on Sunday nights, 5 PM on Sirius 72, where they replay all the fusion pieces of the time.
Anyway, my loop through fusion included Jean Luc Ponty, which, naturally, led to picking up every Stephane Grapelli record I could find, including this little gem< which had me tearing after all the Django Reinhart I could dig up.
The fun thing at the time? Everybody was tossing their 78's. I could buy boxes of 'em for a quarter at garage sales. I have almost all the Paul Whiteman recordings.
Why the syncopated rhythms of the round man and his band?
His cornet player, of course. Leon Bismark Beiderbecke, nicknamed "Bix".

She is stuck in a traffic jam and is already 20 minutes late getting 1 daughter from an advanced High School math Class she takes in first period, before she has to run the daughter over to her Junior High School for all her other classes.
These schools are all up on the steep hillside in Anchorage, and Momma just said that all these cars without Snow-Tires are afraid to come down the hill, so the roads are clobbered and nobody is moving.
Yippee! The Hillside is Yuppie. Therefore the Hillside is Murcowskee and McAdam's territory, and if things don't clear up, they will be the ones having difficulty getting to the polls. It is Valley Trash folks that are for Joe. They don't need no stinkin' Snow Tires! Great news.
