Stephanie

The awesomeness of her facebook posts is that she always links the offending or supporting documentation reducing her detractors into boxing with themselves.

When Karl Rove said his biggest mistake was not fighting back against the campaign of lies against W,Sarah got the message. She does not let things sit and gather conventional wisdom. Good for her!

MarkO

He's just not that smart.

centralcal

I heartily applaud Sarah for her rapid push back against the liberal MFM and their nonsense. We need more on our side to do the same.

peter

I thought it was great, but I think it would have been even greater if she had stopped after the first paragraph, without going into an explanation of her gaffe about NoKo being our ally.

Then again, there are gaffes and there is outright shameful ignorance.

Maybe she had Vietnam confused with the Carolina's or Dakato's?

OT:

Just in case Anduril wants to argue about whether America is exceptional, Bill Whittle's conclusion to his 7 part series is at LUN. YouTube has all episodes. And Bill is spot on with his argument and proofs.

Jane

OT again - Lileks and Bernard Lewis are featured at You Too as we have finally made it to last Tuesday.

Rick Ballard

Hey - why aren't we talking about Romney's latest policy proposals? After all 'Read My Lips' and Barb think he's a swell guy.

Come on - let's see some links to Romney's latest statements. Something that demonstrates his amazing competence and innate political ability - maybe an analysis of Romneycare?

matt

great stuff on Lewis, Jane. What a treat.

MarkO

Romney? Well, for one thing, his dad was brainwashed, so he has a genetic disposition to having a clean mind. How's that?

Ignatz

Woulda been funnier if she'd posted it in Austrian.

bagehot and rothschild's weep at the ruin of their once distinguished publication

You know how much time it takes to decorate a mansion in La Jolla, Rick, Lewis, who puts to shame, all but a few who pass themselves off
as Near East specialists, is right, we were fine with the Bushehr plant, while the Shah
was in charge, maybe we shouldn't have been, but we were assured that Khomeini's rants live from Paris, 'were but a flesh wound'

Janet

From your YouToo Bernard Lewis link -

Lewis believes that Iraq was a huge mistake and that Afghanistan serves no useful purpose. Yet he does not think we should cut and run.

Awhile ago Instapundit linked to a wonderful rant. It had this paragraph - "I turned the other cheek when your liberal propaganda outfits refused to report on the humanitarian success stories in Iraq and Afghanistan, but delighted in the roll call of the lost as a way to bludgeon and demoralize our military."

I don't know what will happen in Iraq & Afghanistan, but I feel great pride in our country getting rid of the Taliban & Saddam Hussein. How can any of us think it is okay to leave all the people in the Islamic countries to live under ruthless dictatorships & darkness? The hatred & insanity of an al Qaeda group grows in that darkness.
At least the door is/will be open for a little while to let some truth & light in. Imagine if the left had helped rather than side with the enemy? Women's rights, new ideas, hope,....all could have flooded in.
That is one thing that was so sad to me - hearing about the Bibles being burned. Are Muslims not allowed to be exposed to any new ideas? Is their faith so tenuous that they will convert to ANYTHING if given a choice? What about the left & choice? Are Muslims not allowed to choose?

Matt,

What do you think of the question I posed. Are we looking at a culture that will mature into civilization given another 600 years?

That (along with some of Phyliss Schafly's remarks) had my mind spinning all week.

Jane

This morning before I left my sister's house my brother in law forced me to show his brother one of my "Jane wins again" pix of someone he would no doubt recognize (and I haven't posted yet).

(He barely recognized it as it turns out)

Then I had to listen to his 10 minute rant of why he is a liberal - It's all about his belief system - which made about as much sense as a third trimester abortion.

That's what you get with someone who works like a dog to keep going, but listens to media that thinks being liberal is an issue good v evil.

I never shy from a good fight, but I left without saying a word as he was clearly armed with a knife in a gun fight.

boris

"a culture that will mature into civilization given another 600 years"

The premise seems unsound to me. Will it take another 600 years for them to learn how to use TV, cell phone, computers? I doubt the number of years is the problem.

Jane

I think they can use those things now Boris. What I was wondering is if their belief system will change? I have no reason to believe it will, or won't, I just wondered.

I can't believe Obama is taking today off.

Extraneus

I left without saying a word as he was clearly armed with a knife in a gun fight.

He must have downloaded the DCCC Cheat Sheet.

Jack is Back!

Hmmmmm. 'Bama up 2 TD's already against Auburn. We could be headed for a Boise State or TCU V. Oregon BCS championship game - hard to believe. SE conference is a shadow of its former self.

boris

"they can use those things now"

That's the point. It takes longer to develop something than to learn it. If they were going to follow the JudeoChristian path they would have arrived already.

Jack is Back!

First pics are in. Almost Tigeresque - the timing and everything. LUN

matt

the root problem is that back around 1100 or so, the ultraorthodox Muslims took control of Islam and froze it's theology into a version of which even Mohammed might disapprove.

The Ottomans built a great empire, but even in this, the Islamic structure eventually shut down the innovative and regenerative forces which typically animate a great civilization.

As the Ummah is now structured, it is hard to believe that a great society could arise from the building blocks in place. More likely is that they simply outbreed much of the rest of the world and Islamicize it that way.

Taking today's Ummah as a model, the world would be a poorer place than it is today.

Threadkiller

Jane, the Muslims will come around when they are no longer a warrior type of people. That will happen when the Christians become physical warriors. The cycle will continue.

Liberals do give us some things that are ">http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Vo0Cazxj_yc"> cool.

Jane

Thanks Matt,

As I said, I just couldn't figure out how to think about it. I don't know enough about Muslim history I guess. That certainly is a start.

Wonder if Obama will sue the guy that elbowed him.

daveinboca

Jane, back in my days as a full-time Arabist and State Dept. pundit-in-training on the Middle East, I spent all night with a bottle of Old Armagnac in Bernard Lewis's home in Princeton next to his 18th century harpsichord---the polymath is a musical wizard as well---discussing his insights on the Turcoman influence all across Asia and on the Arabs. The genius speaks and reads 15 languages and dialects---including Kazakh, and has extensive writings about their resistance to "the evil Bolshebeggis" in the early '20s. The man should be considered our greatest national asset on the Middle East and Turanian aspects of our foreign policy---thanks to the British Empire which in its dying gasp bequeathed Bernard to us.

The polymath is also an expert in his Welsh guise, and a lover of all things Celtic, a little known fact. Or maybe it was the Armagnac and my Mick heritage bringing out his innate polish and good breeding.

Jim Ryan

Hook. He wouldn't survive direct contact with a cross.

Daveinboca,

Not only all that but he travels with a chick named Bundie or something like that, who is nearly his age and who was completely comfortable and having a great time.

There were several times on this cruise that things were really over my head -and for some reason that cheered me, and almost made me cry at the same time. It was very weird.

I love that I get to chew on things for awhile. So do you think there is no hope for an Islamist enlightenment?

Jim Ryan

Maybe a union sent a guy to play basketball with him. A union not satisfied with the number of thousands of jobs they've gotten so far. Somebody don't give us the million new members we wanted for Christmas, somebody don't feel too good.

bgates

How close did we just come to a temporary transfer of power to . . .

Well, I'll tell ya. Pretty much everything you need to know about Korea - and I'll get flack from the talking heads about this, but it's true - you can learn from MASH. Tv show more than the movie, because it was longer and had more depth. The most important thing is, that that was an allegory. It was an allegory about the American experience in Vietnam. Think about it: there's a north and a south, and basically the same country otherwise, so the war is a civil war.

And it's the same basically as our own civil war: there's an industrialized north, and an agricultural or agrarian south where they have slaves. So you have to ask, would you have wanted some outside country interfering in our civil war? Think about what that would mean, now: all of Barack Obama's ancestors would have been slaves. Except the white ones, obviously. And the black ones would have had to come here, because they didn't have slavery in Africa. I mean, how would that work? One black guy owns another black guy? Doesn't make sense.

But if we had let some other country stop our civil war, there would still be a north and a south, still be slavery, and this is for sure: no President Barack Obama. That means I would have been in the big chair this whole time. And sure, that would have worked out fine for us. But what about the slaves in South Korea? Isn't it time the industrialized might of North Korea, and their Abraham Lincoln, freed the south over there, so they could someday have their own Barack Obama, who would be like another Abraham Lincoln to them, or another version of the guy in the north who would probably be like Abraham Lincoln for them right now if he reunited their country and freed the slaves?

The United States should be ready to help negotiate the terms of any kind of reunification. Alan Alda and all those guys - not just the actors, but the writers, the real brains of the outfit - I've had people talk to them, and they're ready to host surrender talks for the south so we can have peace like what happened when we got out of the way in Vietnam, and of course John Kerry is ready to contribute his experience in that arena as well.

And if we really move on this, we can get it all wrapped up as a nice holiday present for Barack when he wakes up. Or Christmas present, because he's such a strong Christian, which I think is important - not that you have to be Christian, as he is and as I am, but that you have some kind of faith, or if you like to have a kind of belief system that doesn't require faith. Whatever works. As Jesus says in the Bible, "faith is good, but absent faith, whatever works." That's in the Bible, but it's just common sense.

Because that's what makes America great.

Jim Ryan

It was very weird.

Wow. To me it sounds like your intellect is in vibrantly good health, Jane.

Jane

BGates, can I get a pix of you holding a "Jane Wins again" sign?

Jane,
After having the Iraqi woman live with us for 9 months and lots of extensive conversations all with frustration as the result I think even less of Islam than I did before. Sandy Daze's experiences haven't helped buoy my hopes either.
The Arab Muslim has a belief system that at its core is completely irrational and fatalistic. In the school systems they have to rely on rote memorization because the culture does not work in logical thought patterns. Cause and effect are ignored and Inshallah is put in its stead. Corruption and lying are a way of life because moral and ethical behavior is not seen as an intrinsic good. It is only the imposition of punishment and shame that keeps behavior in check. Of course lying to save face is ok because that saves you and your family shame.

Gmax

the culture does not work in logical thought patterns.

Sounds like the cult we call Democrat here in the US!

Corruption and lying are a way of life because moral and ethical behavior is not seen as an intrinsic good.

Bingo again! Another match, what are the odds?

Of course lying ... is ok

OT, but the NYT has an article on flooding in Norfolk, VA because of global warming.

Funny, because part of our town is a sand spit that has a lot of very expensive real estate, being beachfront and all. We've been having flooding at very high tides for 30 years that I am aware of.

matt,

In Florida its become and insurance scam. Beside our house which is right behind a hammock covered dune we have a condo we rent which is just off the Inter-Coastal Waterway. Every once in a while to juice up the insurance premium we get a notice that the condo is now in a flood plain (mostly due to inaccurate elevation surveys other owners send in). We have to go out and do all the heavy lifting to correct the insurance company and their records. We have done this several times but you have to wonder if others who get these notices take any action other than resign themselves to an increased premium?

bgates

Or was it Biden?

...one, zero. OK, now I'm gonna snap my fingers, and our little buddy Rahm is going to forget about that binder he's holding with the change of address forms, and he's going to set it down on the table, and he's not going to get his residency changed back, and he's not going to be mayor.

DebinNC

Janet, your care packages are without equal. Thanks so much for the pics full of great suggestions.

Re pics, that window pic of Obama is bizarre. Supposedly, he was watching the WH Christmas tree arrive, but it could have been delayed long enough for him to get stitched/cleaned up, change his clothes, appear with his spiffy new bandaid and smiling aides, and wave reassuringly to his family and the press gathered below. So why did he and his team choose to show him that way...seated slump-shouldered with no one in sight, nose practically pressed against the narrow window? Playing the sympathy card over a split lip from an errant elbow? BC's "I feel your pain" worked, so Obama the narcissist may actually believe "Feel my pain" and "See my loneliness" are winners. Very odd imo, because if ever a pic projected weakness, it's that one.

Actually Hit you have very little if anything in common. Obama will make sure everyone sees his severe injury, rush back to the white house for treatment and refuse to comment on it, so you are left to leave your life and wonder about his.

He is a narcissist, and you don't have a narcissistic bone in your body.
