The traditional "I'm sure glad I am only a fair-weather Giants fan ('cause baby, it's cold outside)" open thread.
And a bonus thought of interest mainly to my cardiologist - the NY Jets had an excellent chance to lose their game on the final play with no time on the clock, a weird confluence which would have turned sports talk radio in New York city into one huge exercise in suicide prevention.
But we live!
Nothing like the NY Post to describe an unsettling event in the NY sports world. See LUN.

Equally bad as that muffed punt was the way the Ginats got snookered on the onside kick, as if Philly doing that was the furthest thing from any of their minds. I don't think I've ever seen such a lack of players on the receiving team being around one of those, including the surprising way Green Bay started out their game with the Patriots.

I have to commend Coughlin for his grace. After having eviscerated Dodge on the field, he graciously covered for him in the press conference as trying to recover from a high snap.
I still think tryouts for walk-ons are Tuesday.

TC, I actually watched the Pats last night until I thought I was causing them to lose so I switched the channel and sure enough they came back.
But I did see that guy (who wasn't supposed to) run 70 yards with the ball cradled in his elbow to almost score a touchdown. That was one of the coolest sights I've seen.

Jane, on sports talk radio this morning, Brady was in a good natured way making fun of what a long time Connolly's run took. I actually thought Connolly was pretty quick given his weight and the fact that he usually doesn't serve as a kickoff returner. He certainly did a better job returning the kickoff than Brady would have!

I myself am ignoring the Patriots, Ravens, Giants, Eagles and other middling teams. It's that thrilling NFC West race among the Rams, Seahawks and 49ers that is holding my interest. One of those powerhouses is certain to capture the Lombardi Trophy this year.

It's impossible to airbrush history without control of what is allowed to be published on the internet. A very good example of airbrush use in the United States is provided by the National Archives. Try the search string "Kenneth Starr" or "Starr Report" or "Independent Counsel" or "Special Prosecutor" and watch history disappear.

I have no idea about any of the technical aspects of modern communications, particularly including the internet, but when I hear people talk of regulating and controlling it I think of Wikileaks. It's sort of like the problems the Soviet Union faced when faxes, videocasettes and satellites proliferated.

I guess "net neutrality" means net of what the government controls.
On a related point, the Fed has decided it needs to micromanage the debit card business, I guess because it's working too smoothly. While they were required to do something, they went crazy and capped fees at something like 80 percent below what they'd been.

AF one stayed behind to await the king's pleasure, Jane. But they needed a wide-body for MO, so she settled for some ol' military version of the 747 they had sitting around. Butt not to worry, I'm sure carbon credits were purchased to justify getting queen and princesses 5,000 miles on a plane that could hold 400 souls. They are not the little people, you know.

Re Dionne, the irony is that most of the far left's ideas of 50 or 100 years ago have already been adopted. Milton Friedman liked to point out that a bunch of the planks in the Communist Manifesto are now standard and almost untouchable policies (progressive income tax, etc.). But shifting goalposts is a favorite leftist strategy.

Just pulled into the Hotel room. Caught the BBC news at the top of the hour on the TV.
The entire first 6 minutes broadcast was devoted to the massive snowstorm in Europe which has clobbered Airports and Air traffic throughout the UK, France, Belgium Germany, Russia etc.
Amazingly, they never once mentioned the topic of Global Warming; no mention at all, not a single time. How the heck the largest snowfall in Europe in years, and the coldest winter in parts of Europe in a centruy can be reported on by these AGW propagandists without a single mention of AGW is beyond me.
